They literally never have appointments and just tell you to go to the hospital in Woburn. They'll tell to to email doc a picture of injury and then they don't respond. I don't even bother with this place anymore and I never go to the hospital in Woburn. I go to Blue Pearl in Waltham and they are wonderful and charge less then the Woburn hospital and have much shorter wait times Def find a different vet. And not that it matters but the parking at the office is also terrible. read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would. They misdiagnosed my dog numerous times in the last 6 months of her life, even though I was giving them clinical hints as to what I was afraid might be wrong with her (I am a doctor). I was not listened to. My dog was finally diagnosed with terminal cancer and will be euthanized this weekend. She was diagnosed too late for us to consider any intervention. I hold this practice responsible. Go elsewhere if you truly love your pet. I wouldn't bring a rat I liked here. read more

They are so unorganized and the office manager Beth has no customer service skills, its a shock that they even still have returning patients given the way they treat people. Although the actual vets that I have encountered have been wonderful, the management and reception really lacks any customer service stills. This is not the type of place anyone should bring their pets to for routine or ongoing treatment. Tip to management- Beth Martin should be replaced. She lacks professionalism and has no business interacting with people. Do yourself a favor and find a manager who knows how to return calls and communicate with people. Honestly the physicians are very kind and nice however it's very disappointing there a couple of of front desk employees that are very unpleasant. First off, Dr. Thayer is the best vet I have ever had. Hands down. I just wish she worked at a different clinic. I've been going there for 20 years and it used to be good. For the past few years it hasn't been. From a technology perspective, they are in the 1960s. Everything by phone and fax, you always get put on hold, they never call back when they say they will. No online anything. Seriously? The vet techs are awesome. The office staff are not. I don't know if they're overworked or what, but most times they are unpleasant and can't seem to get anything right. The one and only reason I still go here is because of Dr. Thayer. We were referred to WVG by our neighbor. We have a boxer puppy & we wanted to find a nice place to take her. They were great... nice & welcoming! Taylor at the front desk was great to schedule my appointment & ensure we had everything we needed. Our Vet spent time on the floor with her & reviewed a punch list of things for her. The vet brought her to the technicians in the back to clip her nails & for some vaccinations. The tech brought her out & said she did "perfect". Overall loving & nurturing environment. I am very disappointed with Winchester Vet Group. I have been going here for 9 years for my dog. I always had no problems when Dr. Zanotti owned the business. After Dr Zanotti sold the business the hospital has gone down hill. The first time I had a problem was on Saturday afternoon. Just before closing I took my dog there because she was shaking. The attendant had locked the door and refused to even talk to me. I had to take my dog to the hospital inEoburn and it cost me $4000.00 to have my dog stay there three days. The most recent problem I had was when I called for a sick visit for my dog, she was shaking and would net eat or drink. The girl at reception told me to bring my dog in this afternoon. I planned on bringing her in. One hour later I got a call back from her saying that they only had one doctor working and I should bring my dog to the hospital in Woburn. I am disgusted because the would not even try to help me an look at my dog. I had to take my dog to the Woburn animal hospital. I will not go back here again. After nine years I think I deserve better treatment. read more

So unfortunate Dr Zanoti left this practice because the service and management are rude and unhelpful. They charged $800 for a simple spay! The exorbitant amount is certainly not justified in any way. While at a follow up visit after her spay I had questions for the veterinarian and was told to call and make another appointment????! read more

I can't get over how unprofessional and rude the staff is at this establishment. I wanted to switch vets due to distance so i called Winchester vet group to make an appointment for my dog, whom is very ill, they told me I didn't need an appointment and to just bring in a stool sample and to have her come in to be weighed. I did that. Then paid them to send out the sample. An hour later they called me and told me I couldn't get the results unless I made an appointment (clearly because they wanted to make more money). I would never even consider bringing your pet here. read more

I don't write many Yelp reviews, but I wanted to counteract some of the negative ones as I am not sure where they are coming from... I have nothing but good experiences with WVG for our rescue puppy. We have been seeing Dr. Leuchte. We have always been able to get in on the same day if there is any issue, and the doctor always explains the issues and options thoroughly and kindly. I used to really like this place but in the last few years they have not been good to my three pets. It started with needing guidance for my elderly dog, but each time I brought him in I was talking to a different vet. I complained and then scheduled something several weeks out so to be sure I was talking to the right person for some continuity in his care only to arrive to a different vet! I then had to take him to the Woburn hospital in an emergency situation and got the correct diagnosis of lymphoma. Miss the guy every day. I was told my cat needed costly dental surgery which we went through with. Very shortly after I am told he has stage 4 kidney disease. I am not sure how all of this was missed in the required blood work prior to the surgery. The surgery almost killed him I feel. So now we have gone through a couple of rounds of expensive blood work to get his thyroid levels corrected and check his kidney functions. They never call me back! I finally got a call back for the first round after calling them and asking for a call back. This last time it was two months before I got a call back even after calling them THREE TIMES asking for someone to call me. They finally called me back when I came in happily one day to weigh my current rescue dog and was treated like some sort of criminal by the front staff member. She glared at me and asked my name as she jotted it down rather angrily. I had peeked in before coming in and there were NO other animals in the waiting area and just one adult man at the front desk. If the vets are going to suggest you bring your underweight dogs in to regularly weigh them, they should notify their front staff as such. In my anger at how I was being treated (and having spent THOUSANDS of dollars with them this past year) I mentioned that I was done with them and would someone please contact me about my cat's bloodwork. A tech called me back that the cat was 'stable' with no other information or next steps. The topper was being brushed off when I told the vet my rescue was deaf and asking for guidance. He told me he did the 'clap test' and the dog was not deaf. We later took the dog to Tufts for a BAER test and he is completely deaf. read more

I wanted to write a review of the clinic for a long time but always got sidetracked. However, a recent health incident with my pug and how he is coming out of it really forces me do that. Our two pugs almost died after their first year general vaccinations by another veterinarian in the area, and Dr. Zanotti of Winchester Vet Group was highly recommended by a neighbor. In fact, walking our dogs in Winchester Common, we met a number of fellow dog owners unanimously recommending him. So we took our puppies there to clean up the allergies mess that was created by the first vet - and we stayed with Dr. Zanotti for over 6 years now. And let me tell you - we do NOT regret it for a moment. In general, whether it is an emergency (our pug had a weird and severe cough spell a few months ago, and my husband and I panicked as these two pugs are everything to us) or a routine matter. The staff are friendly, you immediately feel like you are in a great animal-loving universe the moment you walk in. The clinic is very clean and professionally set up, you immediately sense the level of care they are capable to provide you with. Our pugs are super-spoiled primadonnas, they feel that they are "canine Americans", not just dogs. They truly feel that they are far above dogs in general. . I know it sounds very strange at best, but neither Dr. Zanotti nor any of the staff questioned this attitude of ours (as opposed to our first vet who kept saying "dogs are dogs, don't treat them as children"). Well, we happen to treat them like kids - and our vet is playing along with us. He is very gentle, kind and even affectionate with our a-social pugs and they let him do their examination with no problem. Earlier this week, one of our pugs developed a very weird neck / breathing problem. I spoke to Dr. Zanotti on the phone first (he ALWAYS takes phone calls) who explained to me what the next step in monitoring this situation should be. We had to do an emergency appointment with him the next day, and - despite the fact that he is in surgeries one day of the week - they were able to squeeze us in to make sure the situation is under control. What we admire the most in this particular doctor is that when he speaks to you assessing an issue and going over different options, you can see how experienced and well-advanced he is with the science of vet medicine. He comes across as a professional who is not slugging on his continued professional development - and that is very comforting to know as you want to work with someone who is fully aware of the newest developments in veterinary medicine. Next, he speaks to you as a professional and not as a salesman. I am sure many will agree with me that it is a major turn-off when professionals appear as used cars salesmen. As the co-owner of my own professional business, I can easily see when the service is offered in a classy way vs. being pushed on you, frequently, unnecessarily. When Dr. Zanotti talks about treatment options, you first see the professional who puts the health of your pet above all, with a "sale" static absent - and he always gives you different options to pursue. We NEVER felt like we have been sold a service we did not need, and we always had a choice in different - conservative or very advanced (and, frequently, costly) - options. In situation we had this week, Dr. Zanotti promptly (at 8 am!) called the day he said he would with the blood test results and wanted to hear about the developments for the past two days. He really listens, too! After hearing what I had to say, he went over both conservative and an aggressive approach. We decided to try a conservative approach, and he prescribed a medication for it. When I picked it up later in the day, the staff even included additional syringes with a red marks for the correct dosage for medication! Suffice it to say, the medication worked so well, the next day the dog was as good as new! I spoke to Dr. Zanotti who called to follow up (!), and he instructed me how to monitor the situation and to assure complete recovery. This is just one example - I could go on and on. Our pugs are generally healthy but when something happens and we don't know how to deal with it, we freak out. So I feel very lucky to have landed at the clinic's doorsteps as clients, and we are here to stay. After hearing horrific stories from many about their vet experiences, we feel blessed to have Dr. Zanotti to be our vet and that clinic as his base. I've been going to this practice for quite a few years, and I don't think that some of the reviewers have been going to the same place. My cats over the years have had excellent care with Dr. Zanotti, Dr. Chase, Dr. Thayer, and the late Dr. Diehl. When there has been an emergency either off-hours, or when they are quite busy, they have referred me to the Woburn veterinary hospital. ...and if there has been an unusual wait, that is because someone else's critter is in crisis. And the folks there have always been willing to offer the various alternative levels of treatment, in cases where there is no 'right answer'--as when 3 of my cats developed cancer over the years. read more

My dog had been at the Winchester vet every since he was born in 2012. He loved them and would get so excited to go get groomed. In 2019 he came down with a terminal cancer. They told me he could no longer come there as he was a liability. He groomer also refused to see him, and never said any last kind words to him. I called around to find him a new groomer and no one turned him away. As a matter of fact, his new groomer thought he was such a delight to be around. He ended up surviving almost 11 months, and recently passed in my arms. It was just so cold how his groomer and vet never reached out to say any comforting words. It just makes you wonder, if they are that cold, do they really provide good care. I was kind to give them a one star even though they don't deserve it. read more

We Lone the Winchester Veterinary Group I wish I had the time to write the kind of review I would really like to but I'm thinking these points will be helpful to those considering Winchester Veterinary Group. First, I have two Boxer dogs, Charger (8 years old) and Diesel (4 years old). Both are like my babies! In terms of the care my boys have received from the Winchester Veterinary Group, it would impossible for me to express my level of satisfaction. I can't say they are a 10 because in my opinion that isn't a fair grade, I would rank them as off the charts amazingly above average! In fact, every single time I walk out the door of the Winchester Veterinary Group I feel like I am in the "Know" about my boys. The staff and Dr. Zanotti have always taken extra time to explain in simple to understand terms how my boys are doing. Questions about medicine are carefully answered and when it comes to Dr. Zanotti, well I'll just say that his pleasant and laidback disposition makes the experience stress-free. My boys just love him. Charger was born with bad back legs. They grew in like 2 by 4's and by the age of 13 months he was limping (in short both knees were bone on bone). Between 14 and 28 months Charger had three surgeries on his rear legs. We were not living in Winchester then so all procedures were completed at Tufts A/K/A Cummings Hospital for Small Animals. It was a long process, especially the recovery and physical therapy. Some years later Dr. Zanotti accepted by boys as his new patients. I credit Dr. Zanotti for all the TLC he provided Charger with. Sometimes it's the little things that matter most in life. For example, often time the day after an appointment Dr. Zanotti would call me to see how Charger was doing. This meant the world to me! And then there is Diesel my younger "Brindle" Boxer. No issues with Diesel. He gets his regular checks ups, vaccines and his nails done. Charger & Diesel love going to vet. Maybe it's the treats they get but I don't think so. In fact I am positive it's all the dog lovers that work at Winchester Veterinary Group that make my boys so darn happy. In closing and for me this is a sad point. Two months ago I was forced to change vets. I relocated 100 miles SE of Winchester, MA and while I tried to make it work, the trips to Winchester were just a little too far. Charger, Diesel and I will miss Dr. Zanotti and all of the staff. This veterinary group is absolutely horrible. I have never experienced more women at a front desk who cannot accomplish basic tasks or treat people with dignity. I DO NOT recommend them at all. Please pet owners beware. I have never written a review on yelp but after weeks of being ignored and told my vet would call me i was told that my cats prescription was not a priority and that a vet would not call me back. They would not listen to me, they just wanted to cut me off and have me go to them to buy food and then outright lied and said they faxed my prescription and every time I called they asked which pet I was calling about (after I had to put one of my cats down 12 months ago) and I only have 1 pet now. I have never In my life been treated more poorly and it's sad to say but I am disgusted with their lack of professionalism, customer service and care for my pet. Please I don't want anyone else to experience what I have. There are many great vets out there who care about their patients but winchester veterinary group is NOT one of them. read more

She's compassionate, patient, caring, and understanding. The staff is amazing; always asking about our cats and remembering all of the little things. I can't say enough good things about Winchester Veterinary Group. I have two cavalier spaniels but have been coming here since the late 90s when we owned a golden. We see Dr. Beatriz Thayer, and she is SO smart clinically and amazingly kind as well. She hugs and kisses my cavaliers (and trust me, their breath isn't the best!) I've been an RN for a very long time and know a great diagnostician when I see one. Dr Thayer is absolutely incredible-I trust her judgment implicitly. We have also seen Drs Zanotti and Chase.. both so lovely and sharp clinically as well. Take your pet here, even if it's a long ride. Worth every mile. Oh, and their prices are very reasonable. read more

I have had WVG as my vet for 25 years, and they have assisted me with 6 dogs and 6 cats during these years. I have not tried any other vet since I started with WVG. However I did use other local vets prior to WVG and I was not satisfied. This is what I really like about their practice: WVG is a large practice (I think 5 vets) so they are able to squeeze me in for unexpected situations. All the vets have the same technique of participating in on-going education (seminars, webinars,reading periodicals), so they are not relying on antiquated techniques or information. They are very thorough, and a yearly check-up will take easily 45 minutes becasue they take their time. Their follow-up is excellent with questions or test results, and they will spend as much time as I need to understand the results and the next steps required if there are problems. They will readily suggest a specialist if they feel the condition would benefit from a specialist; they some are visiting specialists (heart, etc.) but some are independent specialists from other facilities. However they also actively intervene with oncologists and surgeons if a situation requires a specialist. They also take the time to give me a follow-up call after an appointment with specialist, explaining the situation in words I might better understand. They act as a sounding board regarding the situation. The owner (Stephen Zanotti) is incredibly philanthropic about animal issues and disasters, as all animals in need are his focus, not just the paying clients. Whenever I have had to make tough decisions about my pets, I ask him "What would you do" and I know he is giving me the best direction for my pet. BTW, he is fantastic and still has regular hours but he has so many patients that I am not sure if he is taking more patients. Just recently, one of the vets helped me consider euthanasia for an hour, after 7PM, to help me make the right decision based on the situation. I could go on and on with positive aspects of this practice, but the bottom line is that many vets are great and adequate when your pet is healthy, but not many practices are equipped to be participative and guide during challenging cases, and this is what really differentiates Winchester Veterinary Group from most other practices. Winchester Veterinary Group has pulled a few of my animals from the almost dead, giving them a few extra years. read more

Dr. Zanotti and his colleagues have been looking after my cats for years. They are very sensitive to my cats needs. The office staff are very helpful and remember me and my cats. I drive 18 miles each way to see Dr. Zanotti. He's that good. He doesn't always require me to bring my cats in. If it's a known issue, I can call him and he'll telephone a prescription into my pharmacy. read more

Wow. New to the area so I was nervous about taking my pup in for an appointment to a new vet. This group was highly recommended so we gave it a whirl. Saw Dr. Diehl - who spent over an hour with us - after xrays, arthritis meds, heartworm supply, and blood tests - the bill was less than $300 (unheard of to get this kind of DVM attention for such a reasonable price). Everyone in the office loved the animals (there were birds, and several office dogs), and I was very pleased. My pup has a decent bill of health for a senior and she was not scared at all of the vets or the technicians because of their great "bedside" manner. Kudos. I brought my very healthy 5 month old puppy there on Weds 1/5/11 for a routine shot, he was seen by Dr. Diehl. They took him in the backroom and came out almost an hour later to tell me that my dog was on oxygen that I need to get him to the woburn referral hospital immediately. My dog Ruger is now on a ventilator for oxygen and clinging to his life. What happened to my dog in the backroom Dr. Diehl & staff???? I would NEVER bring a beloved pet to be seen by them ever again. I came in there with a healthy beautiful dog and left there with a dying one...unless you want to have the same thing happen, I would bring my pet some place else! read more

Winchester Vet Group has been my animals caretakers for over 20 years. I have had nothing but wonderful professional care from Dr Zanotti. He makes you feel that he truly cares about your pet. When I had to take my cat to another vet and the records were obtained from Dr Zanotti the new vet said the records and surgical notes were highly detailed and very informative My dogs ran in gleefully for each visit. Since moving away it has been hard to replace this kind and caring doctor. read more

My family of animal lovers relied on this group for 20 years. Reasons for my low rating: 1) The tech told me to spay a puppy the following week with no bloodwork. Turned out I took the puppy to different hospital who insisted on pre-spay blood work and she was Lyme positive. The spay was delayed because she needed to be treated. The dog is now two years old and tests Lyme negative. No thanks to Winchester Vet Group. 2) It is not a state-of-the-art hospital, which is available for pets today. They cannot perform non-invasive surgery, for instance. I go to a hospital with digital x-rays, ultrasounds, and more. 3) A vet tech there actually performed an examination in the reception area standing. 4) If you bring your pet in for a vaccine, they simply take it out back and pass the poor dog back to you, like an object. They ask no questions about the animal's health, so the primary method of preventative medicine is administering vaccines. 5) Regarding Anonymous' post: Two young women, a receptionist and a vet tech (?) said they did not know what kind of owner I was before checking their database, were angered that I would not bring a puppy in the office until an examination room was available and acted out. To this day, I can not believe how crazy there were and stunned that no one corrected them. They also accused, me of all people, of animal abuse for leaving my puppy in an air conditioned car with my mother while waiting for a room to become available. I will not put up with such negativity or have it around my dog. My expectations of a vet: I expect to have the same level of medical treatment I would expect for myself. I The vet I have been going to now is a state-of -the-art hospital. Prior to administering a vaccine, the vet techs ask you questions about your pet's health, take notes that go into a permanent record. The vet I go to now is very big on preventative medicine, hence the questions. The offer alternative holistic therapies. Vets do not perform miracles. They are highly skilled and had the equipment to perform a non-invasive spay which was 65% less painful and had no stitches. It was difficult to keep my dog still from her canine playmates for a week and leaping about as she required no pain medication. She will never have known the pain of a old school spay and it's physical trauma early in life. The staff is professional and kind to all living creatures and serious about providing the very best of care available today. I associate a living creature's well being with the level of care they are provided. My dog wiggles and wags her way in and out of the hospital. They call her a social butterly. You would swear their patients are people. They are inspiring. I gave one extra star for WVG taking care of putting my dog's beloved grand mother to sleep when she was very ill. They were very good to her. As well as for all the years before state-of-the-art medicine was available at a vet that Dr. Zanotti took care of all our pets. He is a compassionate person. His current staff, however does him a disservice. read more

Beware: Many of the reviews on here are old. Here is an update: Our experience has been terrible, but we kept going back, but not any longer. They are great at charging a lot of money for tests and medication that doesn't do anything. They are terrible at responding when you really need them. We brought our first dog in for an exam after he was limping. After running many tests, and lots of money, they said they found nothing. Two weeks later he was on the ground in our house, couldn't get him out of the house without hurting him. We called the clinic, they offered no help. Response was as cold as ice. He died the same day. We thought it was us and justified the actions, so we since got a puppy, and have been bringing him there. Recently, he developed a limp (unbelievable). After more exams, medication, and money, his limp is not only still there, it is significantly worse. (Oh, they have found nothing). We called the clinic about the severity of the limp, they said they can't do anything until Monday. Offered no guidance or suggestions. Said if we can't wait, we should go to another clinic. Cold as ice. I wish this clinic wasn't in Winchester. I do not recommend going. I will say, the co-founder, who has since reduced his hours, is very nice. It is clear, without his leadership, this clinic is doomed. read more

After moving to the area we noticed some fleas on our cat. Never having to deal with fleas before we researched treatments and found that prescription meds were safer and more effective then over-the-counter treatments. When I called and told them what we were bringing our cat in for they said to bring her to a groomer. Um......I declined and made an appointment at another area vet that prescribed a safer medication then the flea collar we were using. After reading other reviews it seems this place is associated with a groomer so I guess the suggestion makes a little more sense although I don't see how grooming my cat alone with successfully treat a prevent fleas. read more

I have a 9 year old lab who has diabetes, hypothyroidism, cataracts, arthritis, glaucoma, and is for the most part blind. We had previously taken him to a different vet and weren't happy with their service, so a friend recommended we go here and they were great. The staff at the front desk were very nice, especially the woman with dark curly hair. She came right over to our dog and was petting him and trying to calm down his barking. Our dog is a barker and most people get really annoyed with it, but they were very nice. We saw Dr. Vo and she was amazing. She took her time with us and made me feel so much better about our dog's condition. He has an extensive medical history and she came in the room with his file which had all post-it notes in it so she really looked into what was going on with him. She was just awesome and I hope to have her next time. As for price, it was a lot cheaper than the first vet we took our dog to and even the second vet. I was expecting a much higher price for an office visit and two medication refills, but they are affordable. I feel very comfortable having them care for my dog. I will definitely recommend Dr. Vo and this office to others! read more

A great new doctor has joined this able, team-oriented staff, Dr. Gabriele Chase. She's an excellent diagnostician and laid out a number of options for proceeding to treat our dog, noting the pros and cons and possible consequences of each, and left it to us to decide. She's obviously very knowledgeable and was happy to answer all our questions. We think our goldendoodle is lucky to be in her care while we're here in MA. read more

Love this place. My parents have been taking their cats to Dr.Z for years now so when I finally got my own sweet boy I knew there was no where else to go. Dr. Z is wonderful and a cat person which I adore. He also does not scold me for only feeding my cat dry food, which I have had more than one vet do. While I do find the prices a little high (but considering the area I can't say I'm surprised) they don't push tests that don't need to be done on a healthy indoor cat. Our first visit to this facility . OMG best doctor visit ever. My dog has anxiety issues with our other vets. Dr. Chase awesome can not thank her and staff enough for making rosco so comfortable. Dr. Thayer is just amazing. She gives such a thorough examination and really cares about your animal as if it were her own. I was hesitant to go to anyone except Dr. Zanotti as he is the owner and has been given such high praise by so many people. But, I adore Dr. Thayer! I am an overprotective "mom" and she "gets it". I wish I could find a people Doctor Like her for myself! I have a 10 year old Pitbull mix (who is my only child) and Dr. Thayer gets right on the floor with her and inspects every inch of her body- head to tail. Deep in her mouth, anal glands- everything!!! I have had other vets where I felt them being hesitant about really getting too close, likely because she is part Pitbull. Dr. Thayer happily accepts my dog's kisses all over her face! She is very knowledgable, friendly and patient. Answers my thousand questions and doesn't make me feel rushed at all. She is so personable and friendly- not a clinical experience at all like at some vets/ doctors. You can tell she really cares and isn't desensitized by the job. Can't imagine a better experience!
