I just have to share my absolute love for Pet Companions Bed and Biscuit Dog Care! My dog has been going there for over six years, and honestly, I can't sing their praises enough. The moment I ask, "Do you want to go to school?" my dog is up and ready, heading straight for the door. It's such a joy to see her excitement as we drive down the street - she knows exactly where we're going and I can't contain her enthusiasm, bouncing from window to window. When we finally pull up, I have to brace myself because she drags me to the front door, eager to get inside. It's adorable how her whole-body wiggles like an "S" when she's excited - it never fails to make me laugh. Under the new ownership, which has been in place since 2023, Pet Companions Bed and Biscuit has only improved. The facility looks better than ever, with separate rooms for chilling out, enjoying treats, solving puzzles, and even taking nature walks with the staff. And that's just the tip of the iceberg! Our faithful companion Shadow reports that he had a fantastic time at the "Bed & Biscuit" while us hoomans navigated pressurized aluminum tubes and family. The new owners (as of 2023) are fantastic at keeping us updated through direct contact and social media. Pet Companions is particularly specific to make sure the dogs all get along, so an advance site visit is required. Some differentiators is they have sufficient staff on hand at all times, the dogs have a good time, and they understand how to interpret "Woof, oof, Oofoh wah Ooof" and other things that our four legged friends say in the language of Bark. This isn't the place with the lowest cost by any means, but it is Shadow's favorite place to go. He knows it by name and looks forward to his vacations. This is one of those reviews I'm hesitant to write because I really don't want more people to find out how great "the Biscuit" is. :-) I started bringing my Labrador retriever Callie to the Biscuit when she was just a puppy and I needed a break at home to get work done. That was 3 years ago. She loves it. She loves the large outdoor space with the pools and climbing toys (yes, they have a doggie slide.) She looooooves the amazing staff there. She loves all the attention and belly rubs. I love the fact that there is outdoor space for Callie and her friends to play in the fresh air. I love that when I board her there, a human sleeps in the same room with the dogs. No cages. I love how friendly everyone is and how well-run the business is. I love the fact that the new owners are revamping and refreshing things--not only the building itself like new paint, flooring, air purifiers--but also the offerings. Now you can get grooming services on site and there are so many enrichment activities to choose from. I tried 3 other doggie daycare businesses in the area before I found the Biscuit. I'm so happy I found them. I can't recommend the Biscuit and its staff highly enough. read more

The owners have improved the business tremendously by adding enrichment, retail, grooming and easy online booking. The staff is knowledgeable, trained and cares for all the pups. They have worked with my energetic dog to help teach him how to calm down. I won't even give one star! The worst choice I even made was to entrust them with my dog! I singed him up for the day while I was dealing with a stressful move after the death of my husband. When I picked him up the owners husband said we needed to have a "chat" as I could hear my poor dog locked in a room all alone upstairs . He explained that he was anxious all day (I never received an calls to tell me this ) and that he scratched a door , when I offered to pay for it he explained it was already ruined anyway. Leaving me to think then why mention it? He then accused me of not taking care of my dog properly because his nails were too long. I explained they had just been trimmed a few weeks ago and he asked where implying that a substandard job was done on them and asked where? I explain they were done at his establishment, he was caught off guard by this. Feeling desperate I signed him up for daycare for the week in the hopes he would become more comfortable. I then realized I just didn't trust this place and cancelled all of my reservations at the end the day and received follow up text from this man explaining it was probably for the best. Again, after receiving no calls during the day to let me know my dog was having anxiety. My dog has been going to daycares for three years and has boarded at several places over the years and has never had so much as a single issue. This man should not be allowed to care for so much as a gerbil! If you love your dog the way I do, stay as far away from this place as you possibly can! read more

I will start by saying, this place is probably fine for a lot of dogs. If your dog is an anxious type, beware. The dogs are mixed in with all shapes and sizes and they never can really relax or have any alone time. My dog got really messed up after going here for a couple days as a 9 month old puppy. This was three years ago, but I am still dealing with the fallout. She is now extremely leash reactive. This behavior started the same week she attended this daycare. I do not believe anything bad happened to her on purpose, but I think this place does not understand flooding and the fallout with certain dogs. I have learned so much about animal behavior since my girl became reactive. She was cowering during the intros as she met one dog at a time. They threw a thunder shirt on her and continued the greetings. This was way too much for my sensitive puppy who was likely going through a fear period. I felt uncomfortable for her and I should have left with her. The fact that I didn't, is my fault. The staff was kind and I can't complain about them but I regret leaving my dog here. I have a very sweet but very timid and anxious mini golden doodle, Bailey. Bailey started at Bed and Buscuit August 2022. She has been an upstairs, office dog because she has been too timid to go out in the yard. It is so clear how much the staff care about her. In the beginning she used to walk in shaking when I dropped her off. Now as my car approaches Bed and Biscuit, her tail starts wagging and she jumps out of the car with excitement. All the staff who greet her at the door knows her name and is genuinely excited to see her. Recently Laurel and staff felt that she was ready to go out in the yard with other dogs. It was carefully planned and thought out, and successful! The staff were so excited for Bailey and so excited to tell me about her big day! I know that Bailey is well cared for there and from day one I have felt very comfortable leaving her there. When she picked me up, they told her I didn't go to the bathroom at all! What's the point of her taking me to doggie daycare if I am just going to hold it in all day? My dog Keeley absolutely LOVES going to Pet Companions! She is always so happy jumping out of the car to go in and will play with all her friends almost non-stop while there. The staff is all so friendly and it is obvious that they love their job and having the opportunity to play with so many amazing dogs. From the day we met Judy and her team back in 2007, I knew our dog Lucy would be in good hands. We've since started taking our new dog Bailey there this year even though it's 30 mins out of the way since we've moved due to a bad experience at another doggie daycare only 5 mins from our home. Pet Companions is owned by Judy who comes with years of experience with dogs, their overall heath, activity and training. The staff she hires is the best and I am assuming they are already knowledgeable but one can only imagine that they to are learning from Judy. In our old town, we took our dog to a cageless doggie daycare facility 3 times per week. Our dog is an indoor dog and we worked jobs that nearly always required long hours so it was prudent to bring him someplace where he could get some interaction and exercise during the day. Moving to this area prompted to find me a new facility for our dog, and I found Pet Companions Bed & Biscuit. They are close to the Reading commuter rail station and offer flexible hours. I made an appointment with them to tour the facility and introduce our dog to them. Their building is a fairly large, rambling older home that has been converted. The yard is fully fenced in and acts as the outdoor playground for the dogs. There are indoor rooms as well, including one with couches for the dogs to relax on. They have some pretty strict requirements that I hadn't encountered at other doggy daycare facilities before - they don't take dogs who bark a lot and your dog must obey their commands. You must bring your dog there for a trial day of daycare so they can see how he does. They also complete a "report card" to rate how your dog did on his first day. Fortunately, our dog fits their requirements (he got a perfect score on his evaluation report card - oddly, I'm quite proud of this), so he was accepted for daycare. We don't have children, but I'd expect that their evaluation and acceptance of our dog probably felt something like the feelings parents experience when their child is evaluated for an exclusive school. One thing I really like is that they use something called the "Gentle Method" to keep the dogs in order. This means they don't yell at the dogs and use time outs to reprimand dogs when they have done something inappropriate (rough play, mounting, etc.). I haven't heard any staff member raise their voice to any dog while I've been there picking up or dropping off our dog, nor have I heard excessive barking at all. It seems they do successfully keep the dogs on their best behavior. This is quite different from the previous daycare facilities I've taken our dog to (not in this area) - there was always a lot of barking, and attendants would constantly yell "shut up" and other things to the dogs. Compared to that, I definitely prefer this "Gentle Method." My one issue is the pricing - this is the most expensive doggie daycare facility I've ever seen. They charge $30 per day, and feeding is extra ($3 per meal)! Since I usually bring lunch for our dog to be fed during the day, this is $5 more per day than I've paid at our last doggie daycare facility, which was also in a high cost of living area (San Francisco area). It may not sound like much, but it adds up. We love our dog, but this will affect the frequency with which we bring him to Pet Companions Bed & Biscuit. I would consider other facilities that were convenient to the Reading commuter rail station (if there were any) just based on their pricing alone, even though I do like many other things about their facility. Overall, I think this is a great doggy daycare, but it's quite pricey. read more

I've been bringing my dog here for about 6 months now, and he loves it! He's so excited to go inside, and when I pick him up, he's happy. And the best part is that all the exercise he gets makes him nice and tired for the evening and he's happy to curl up on his bed and relax. Pet Companions has a screening process for all dogs and only accepts those that are well behaved. They don't allow aggressive behavior, excessive mounting or barking, so it's good to know that your dog is around other well behaved, social dogs. The staff is wonderful too - always pleasant and seem like they really enjoy what they do. There is also an observation window upstairs where you can take a look at the pea stone area outside and watch the dogs play. They're allowed to go inside and outside at will, which is a nice touch, since some dogs probably prefer to just relax on a couch some days. The only con is that it's a bit more expensive than other doggy day cares at $30/day. However, you're getting the peace of mind that you're leaving your dog with a well trained staff and other well behaved dogs. edit: I'm upgrading this to 5 stars now. The 4 stars I had originally given it was because of the fact that Pet Companions is a bit more expensive than most doggy day cares, but I truly believe that peace of mind is worth it. My dog was attacked over the weekend while we were on a walk, and we got him checked out at the vet and cleared to be around other dogs. When we dropped him off this morning, the staff were attentive and helped make sure we could see for ourselves (via the observation window and the tv monitors) that he was doing fine today, and was not traumatized to be among his friends. read more

We adopted a new high energy puppy that needs lots of play time. Since we both work full-time we were not able to give her all the running/playing/socializing with other dogs during the week. Then a neighbor told us about Pet Companions and what's better - they pick up in Somerville! The indoor and outdoor areas are all so nice and the dogs have a blast playing together (or napping inside on a bed). they have pools, sun, shade - really whatever a dog could want. What's even better - we get a tired pup at the end of the day ready to go to bed. Other pluses - overnight boarding, an observation room where you can see your pup play with other pups, pick up and drop off hours are very convenient for people with full time jobs. read more

I've been taking my dog, Indiana Jones, to Pet Companions for about five years. This is a fabulous place with a dedicated, caring staff. The dogs can play indoors or outdoors with employees always there monitoring them. There are no crates (unless your pup is in a time out). There are chairs, couches, beds, television, and stereo - just like home. Judy and the staff at Pet Companions have made leaving Indiana Jones for an overnight like dropping your child off for a sleepover! I love Pet Companions! The owner, Judy, is a "dog whisperer" and all of her staff are outstanding warm and energetic people that I genuinely believe care about my 2 year old Golden Irish pup Seamus. I can't imagine entrusting him to any other facility. In fact I had a terrible experience with another local and well liked facility that allowed my pup to eat hundreds of pea stones. Pet Companions provides much closer supervision of the dogs than other facilities with multiple staff in each area. There are two outdoor areas and one indoor and you can observe the dogs playing from an observation area upstairs. There are no cages when boarding and unlike many facilities there is a human in the room with the boarding dogs overnight. I take so much comfort that Seamus is not missing me when he sleeps there because he is getting affection from the staff and other dogs! My pup gets so excited when we go there, I can tell how happy he is there and the many photos and videos shared by the staff reassure me that he is having a blast! read more

I cannot say enough about Judy and her crew at PCB&B - and I am a current client! Judy is very particular with the dogs she allows in daycare. She spends an hour interviewing them and their parents in the office, watching the pups the entire time and interacting with them (and hearing their "story"). She then brings them to the "yard" and methodically introduces them to other dogs, bringing them in one by one (hand chosen depending on your pup's personality), and observing and guiding. If your pup is nervous (as mine was) she has crates all about - your pup can go in and observe from safety. When your pup is ready, they will "tell you" by trying to get out and join in. Eventually she brings all pups in and completes the meet and greet. You can see all of this from the window observation area unless Judy thinks you should be visible to (with) your pup. At that point she will tell you if she thinks they are a fit. My girl (Beagle) who went over the bridge last year was not able to socialize with the others, and Judy tried multiple times. We had to give it up. So, not only does she try, but she does not bring in a dog that can't socialize properly. Judy's crew walk in and out of the dogs in the yard and house all day, rain or shine. They have walkie-talkies and they communicate with each other nonstop. Fast forward - my other two pups (Bennie & Jett) passed the test and just love it there! When they hear they are "going to see their friends", they jump up and down. They can't wait to get out of the car when we arrive, and when I go to pick them up they don't want to leave! I LOVE that they are not in a kennel all day and are free to play! When I drop my boys off, I feel 100% comfortable that they are being looked after and are happy! Did I mention that they post pictures of all the pups on FB? Here are but a few! PCB&B have a very clean and easy way to drop off the pups due to Covid, so no worries there. Can't say enough good things about this place, and our dog loves it. From the first time, the owner met with me to explain the business, and do a "test run" with our dog to make sure he's not aggressive with the others, I could tell it's an excellent run business. Everyone on the staff I've encountered is super friendly, and they all genuinely seem to be having a blast with the dogs. It's well staffed, so the dogs are closely monitored, and the setup with the dogs playing in the big yard all day, and having the run of the dog-converted house to nap & sleep in is awesome. My high-energy dog is always is exhausted for a good 24 hours after staying here, which pretty much makes them miracle workers! read more

It saddens me to write this. My dog, who just turned one, has been attending daycare since he was 12 weeks old. It's his very favorite place. A few weeks ago I was made aware that he was having a problem with some larger male dogs (his fault). I spoke to Judy (owner) twice and observed his behavior. Unfortunately they could not reproduce the behavior for me, it's intermittent. Last Wednesday my husband picked up after we had tried a new technique and was told he "was excellent". Today I brought him for daycare, on my way to work. He was turned away. No forewarning. I was due in my office in 10 minutes. I asked if an exception could be made for the day... no. My dog had to sit in my car until one of my children could come pick him up, missing some school which is also unacceptable. I don't blame them for not wanting a trouble making dog. But, to act like they are working with me, telling me things are excellent, then leaving me high and dry on my way to work.... horrible business practice and I'm going to tell everyone I know. Update: my dog has been at his new daycare for a year now and he is everyone's favorite! No once has there been an issue. I made them aware of possible problems when he started and they have no idea what sort of behavior was "not appropriate". I will mention that they are very organized, keep the dogs on a play and rest schedule and have limits on numbers. All policies I agree with read more

What don't I love about Pet Companions? Nothing! Our rescue dog has severe separation anxiety so doggy day care is a must since my husband and I both work full time. Judy and her staff have been life savers. Duncan loves going for the day or for "sleep away camp" when we travel. When he is picked up in the morning he excitedly runs to the staff member for his van commute. It's perfect for him that there is no crating or other restraint of the dogs. I also like that they use the Gentle Method of correcting inappropriate behavior. And it's clear everyone at Pet Companions loves the pups and loves what they do. First time dog Mom here. We do half days at Pet Companions to help tire our pup out. When we pick her up she is either exhausted (if there long enough) or if I drop her off late morning she doesn't want to come home, she has tried to hide behind the legs of staff! My puppy gets SO excited when she recognizes where we are going and can't wait to go play with the other dogs and AMAZING humans who work there. The staff has a genuine love for the pups there and the owner is great at screening the dogs. I think the expectations are spot on to keep the dogs in their care safe. I highly recommend PetCompanions Bed and Biscuit in Reading,MA. I have rescued two dogs from the owner, Judy Basteri. Her love for all animals is extraordinary but her love for dogs is off the charts! The dogs get to lounge on sofas, and are not put in crates unless they choose to be. There is a huge play yard with pea stone put down to keep the dogs happy. On hot summer days the dogs get to sit in kiddie pools to cool off. Judy also goes to yard sales and finds large Fisher Price plastic houses and other children's toys for the dogs to sit in. Her staff is well trained and she is staffed 24-7! I couldn't get anyone on the phone all day so decided to stop in with my dog to see it. The owner, Judy was very rude and condescending. She kept telling me my lab was a bad dog for jumping but she would "fix him right up" because she had 34 years of experience. She wouldn't let me see where the dogs were kept and I had a bad feeling so I left. After that I asked the folks in my puppy play group if they've ever used them and heard horror stories about how rough they were with the dogs, spraying them in the face for barking and yanking on their collars if they jumped. I wanted to warn people in case they didn't have the information I now have. I would NEVER trust them with my sweet dog! read more

I have been using them for years for both daycare of my dog as well as boarding when I have to travel. I cannot emphasize enough how well my dog and all the dogs are taken care of. I literally never give a second thought as to my dog's safety or that she is getting enough attention, because I know she is getting the best when she is there. Judy, the owner, is an amazing woman and has a unique sense of dogs. In order to have your dog there, she will meet with you and your dog, have the dog do some time on their own with the staff and other dogs to see if it is all a good fit for both the dog as well as the other dogs that are there. She is only interested in the well being of all the dogs and that the best possible outcome and experience be had for our furry kids. What I love about Judy and all of her staff is their kind and caring attitudes to both the dogs and to the family members that drop them off. They are always so pleasant when dropping off or picking up and if you have a question or concern on a particular day, they readily take the time to chat with you, and answer any questions. Judy, also will literally call you if there are any concerns to go over them with you. She won't just tell you about an issue, if there is one, she will have all kinds of suggestions of how to alleviate the problem and make the daycare/boarding experience better for both you and your dog. My personal experience is that my dog absolutely thrives being at Pet Companions. She loves going there and literally, as we turn the corner to the street that they are located on, she is standing up, tail wagging and I can see how happy she is to go. As I'm retired and home enough, I take my dog Bella here just for boarding when I go on vacation or when I'm going to be on an occasional long day trip. I've looked around for boarding places that might cost a bit less ($49 per night as I write), but AT THOSE OTHER PLACES either their 'clients' are locked in cages crying pathetically and upsetting the other dogs, or there's no person staying overnight, or you pay extra to have them get highly restricted outdoor time. Pet Companions has it all as far as I'm concerned....cageless boarding, free roaming around the house or yard, and a human staying overnight. I also love that Pet Companions posts a lot on Facebook, so I can observe from afar and see some sweet and funny pictures. Highly recommend. read more

I've been taking my Golden Retriever, Sadie, to Pet Companions since she was a pup. I've mainly taken her there when I've been away for a night or longer, but would send her several days a week if my evening schedule allowed for it. Seven years later, she still loves the place and goes bonkers with excitement when we pull into the parking area. Judy runs a first-rate business, from the intelligent and friendly staff she's always maintained to the thoughtfully selected group of dogs. I'm always struck by the sense of calm when I go there. There's no barking and yelling. Somehow, in this setting, the dogs are very mellow. The facility is also well-staffed. There's always at least several staff members who are playing with dogs, maintaining the order, and it's clear that these employees really enjoy their work (not the case at two other facilities that I have experience with). There is no other facility I would leave Sadie in overnight. Period. Sadie has never had any problem with the pea stone. That's the materials used in many dog parks. Everyone else that I've sent to Pet Companions has been as impressed as I am. I can't think of any negatives. Just wish they would open more facilities. read more
