Weekday mornings are nice and quiet. I feel safer shopping here than ENF & Co-op because of the good security, parking lot and staff. I appreciate I can get everything we need here in one-stop. This place acts like it hates it's own customer base like a certain canned soup exec. Massive police camera in the parking lot, shifty glares from cashiers and refusing to acknowledge my identification card because it's "iffy, just so you know" It's a federally backed and recognized local tribal identification. Good enough for federal and local government and as a previous bank employee i know for a fact it is in the state identification handbook. At best, this represents a lack of training. At worst this business is hateful, requiring those they don't approve of to jump through extra and illegal hoops before the simple and basic service they claim to love so much. On the whole, I really like this store. The clerks are great, the prices are the lowest in town, and the customers are fine even when it is very crowded. But I have learned the hard way that their products sometimes have packaging flaws. Today I started to open a jar of Adams Creamy Peanut Butter -- yes, the organic kind that costs over $7, and found that even though the outer cellophane wrapper was intact, the jar itself was unsealed. Employee owned and operated! It is always wonderful coming here way before or after rush hour. The selection of food is quite vast at this Winco. They have a small selection of vegan items, veggie meats and protein meats. So much so that their aisles, especially their miscellaneous aisle, tends to change within two weeks or so. read more

If Costco and Walmart had a baby with Kmart as the surrogate, Winco is the result. Now I only came here because I forgot to pack my food for a early morning hike and it was 2AM in Eureka, and this place was the only store that was open, and it was open 24/7! It's fairly large given how small Eureka is, and it is quite worn and old aesthetically, but it gets the job done. Found 4 sandwiches for $7, and add a little lettuce and I was good for a day's hike. It was sweet roll bread as well so honestly it was pretty good and I liked the wrap, it's about what you expect for a cheap wrap, especially if you need it for the next morning without waiting for restaurants to open. They had a good selection even super late at night at 2am, and have cheap stuff relative for this area. Main issue is this WinCo is REALLY ugly looking. It really is an abomination to see. Reminds me of a 80s Kmart with the ugly beige on the walls, tube lights in the air with the worst eyes straining light and exterior/logo looking like a Microsoft paint edit. But mainly it's in a pretty shady area at night as well, but Eureka just has a fair amount of shabby people tbf. The area with the WinCo reminds me of Isla Vista in Santa Barbara back in my college days. I wouldn't use this as my first option, but given its 24/7 Winco is always there. Price and 24/7 is good, but negatives like the ugly area and the shady people outside make it a 3 for me. read more

Horrid staff wasn't educated in federal identification, they took mine and refused to give it back until I ran to the managers office panicked to get Joe the manager. Who knows what they were doing with my green card while they made ME go get the manager (they laughed and refused to call him). Mocking me the entire time for not being a citizen. This is the best store in Eureka. They have enough workers to help the customers, the shelves are stocked, and the prices are great. I go there a lot and have never had a bad experience there. One time, when another customer was rude, Security noticed and got right on him, and assured me they would keep that guy out of the store from then on. Glad we have this grocery store nearby, though the cleanliness of the establishment needs a little attention. There always seems to be spills or severe wear and tear in high traffic areas. It also found out in my most recent visit that they do not accept Credit Cards. Debit Cards or Cash only which was new to me since I had just lost my debit card and ONLY had a credit card on me. Bummed me out that it made it difficult to buy groceries even though I had the credit card means to do so. There's a good selection of fruit and veggies and other groceries. Plenty to choose from and good prices so hard to complain- but just some learnings and sharing what to expect. we stopped in for a quick grocery run and we stopped at the food counter to get some pizza for dinner. we were greeted by Jason at the pizza counter and he was in great spirits. He was so nice and silly and fun and awesome. The garlic bread is also really good like way better than you would think and it's only $.98. read more

Grocery outlet on steroids. This place is huge, with a massive parking lot. There are multiple checkout lanes, each with two sided service. So even though the place is usually packed if you know what you're doing and don't get distracted by the crowds you can get in and out of the place fairly easily. Its always open as well (24 hrs) so shopping at three am is also an option, which is about the only time the place is fairly quite. This store has a nice bulk selection that is usually stocked with pretty much everything in it, there are even a couple grind your own nut butter machines. Bulk cheeses, a bakery, a decent beer and wine section, all kinds of options on family size packages in all categories of a standard grocery store - at better than retail prices. Sometimes this place is a workout to shop but, if you know what you're looking for when you go in and don't let the crowd deter you, you can feed you family pretty well on a budget. They will even give you 5¢ a bag discount if you bring your own shopping bags, cloth or recycled paper. I shop at WinCo all the time maybe 2-3 times a week. Well this run I was paying for my groceries 145 dollars worth and I had asked cashier if I can exchange my 20 dollar bill for 20 ones. He said he cannot he will get in trouble but customer service will be able to help. I pay for my groceries and then go to customer service counter. The employee working that counter was stocking and looked at me like I was an inconvenience cause she had to walk around the counter and help me then I proceed to ask my I exchange this 20 for 20 ones she said no it's policy we just can't do that. I was a little confused cause cashier just told me customer service would help me so I asked for a manager maybe they could better explain why I was told two different things. The "manager"Devon said it's just policy they don't do that and the cashier should have been able to do it for you. But they can't do anything now cause they just don't open the til it's for safety purposes unless you buy something buy a bag he said so I said ok I'll buy a bag then. Well that didn't set well with Nicole the employee at the customer service desk cause that would mean she would have to help me when she said she couldn't. She was really rude and had that careless entitled demeanor. I wasn't ok with both of them not going out their way to say they will talk to that cashier and train him so he knows better and how they weren't trying to find a solution They were literally just there doing the bare minimum. I am really disappointed especially because as I was walking away I heard the lady Nicole say some ugly racist remark. I've been going to Winco since it opened. I will continue going there because the prices are substantially lower than Safeway. It is clean and neat. I find the staff always helpful, friendly and courteous. Considering how much less expensive the consumables are, I'm not worried about a well planted parking lot. It also caters to all of Eureka, not just the more affluent. They carry a surprising array of products, not only house brands but also some of the things I used to only find at the Health Food Store or Safeway. I asked about carrying a few items and they showed up. The ones that sold well were kept. Those that didn't, left thus keeping the prices down.The store does a lot of business so the merchandise is always fresh. They also don't do a couple things that the Safeway does. They do not call me by name nor do they count out money loudly when I'm getting cash back. No one can use my name to get my attention in the parking lot so they can accost me, take my money and run into the trees to escape. For those who insinuate that the parking lot is unsafe, I have been going there forever. I have been in the parking lot as late as 10pm and as early as 6 am. I have never been accosted in any way. But the people will smile if smiled at. read more

While visiting Humboldt County in June '21, stopped at this WinCo for some groceries. It had just what I wanted for that day: some water and a few deli sandwiches to take on trips to the parks in the area. The sandwiches were pretty good, although we felt the club wrap was kinda boring with its all-meat configuration. The better ones were a chicken caesar wrap, and a roast beef and cheddar croissant. This chain is not in the inner SF Bay Area where we live, so it was something new for me. If it were available, I think I'd be including it in the list of stores I use. All the different areas of the store here seemed to offer a good selection of the items they represent: produce, deli, meats, frozen, etc. I would probably return here again for some quick groceries on a future visit. read more

Most people would say that f you seen one WinCo, you have seen them all. Inside that may be true as to prices, self bagging, and no checks or credit cards, ad infinitum. But, this WinCo has got to be the shabbiest outside environment I have ever seen. The owner of this old shopping center must never sweep the parking lot. It had more trash in it than I have ever seen in a WinCo lot. Now I know Eureka isn't exactly a upscale location, but this was ridiculous. Tweaker and homeless central in the parking lot too. There aren't a lot of places to shop for groceries in Eureka, so I guess we'll have to put up with the conditions we find here. Too bad. Oh yeah, my first experience with the charge for bags schtick in CA. Another useless intrusion into our lives. They ask you how many bags you are using so they can charge you $0.10 per bag. Since you are bagging your own, how in the Hell are you going to know how many bags I am going to use until I am done? Next time tell them 2 bags and take as many as you need, even a few extra, as the store probably cares less if the count is correct. They just have to probably kick the $$ for bags to the State. I live right around the corner from Winco and I'm in there several times a week. Today I went shopping and left some items in the bottom of my kid's massive BOB stroller, then went to Winco. A woman named Yae (possibly Yea) accosted me and demanded my recipts. She was extremely aggressive and rude. I of course had my receipt (like how dumb would I be to try and steal things and then go the through checkout?) but she needs a to learn what customer service means, especially when dealing with frequent customers! I've been checked out by her many times and she never smiles, never makes conversation, nothing! Just plain rude. If you hate your job that much, maybe get a different one? Pretty cool grocery place. Large and affordable. I'd say it's like a hybrid between Costco and Safeway. They have bulk but also retail. They have a full deli and bakery. They even have an in house pizza spot (sadly no hot dogs or chicken bakes). But you don't need a membership. The basic grocery part of the store is also open 24/7 which is great when practically everything closes by ten around here. Cheap, well stocked, and 24/7. Honestly the go-to unless you need something special or have trouble getting there. P.S. the employee owned part is real. I've met a few of their employees who spoke of millionaire employees. This is my go to grocery store. We do ALL of our main shopping here and have done so for many years. They have the best prices in town, any town for that matter. The store can get crowded and some customers will hit you with their baskets, but I just push it right back onto them and keep it moving. The employees are always super professional and check out quickly. Save yourself some money and shop at WinCo. UPDATE I tried the pizza and I was in heaven!! The crust: is seasoned with garlic and what I believe to be parsley flakes. I've never tasted crust that delicious. All these years shopping there and I've been missing out. WinCo. It's an experience. First, this is no ordinary poor folks store. By some magic, we can shop for normal grocery store brands instead of the usual generic only brands found in other such stores. Want to see a neck and face tattooed ex con and his pregnant girlfriend buying alcohol and a giant can of nacho cheese? Want to see the native habitat of the rare authentic mullet? Want to see Humboldt County hill people as they come into town for their monthly provisions? Come to WinCo. I love this store.
