I bought a fruit bowl yesterday of peaches, nectarines, mango, and grapes. About half of the nectarines and all of the mango were unripe. Can't they tell the difference between ripe and unripe fruit? More understandandable with melons, but selling cut unripe fruit that won't get riper is a rip-off. read more

I feel kinda bad for giving a 3-star rating as Thanksgiving nears but honesty is the best policy right? The Good: - Nice big grocery store and it's organized - I like the Self-Checkouts - Their hot food section has some delicious options. The chicken tenders and potato wedges are yummy to the tummy when they are fresh. - I love their California Dreamin sandwich! It pairs wonderfully with focaccia bread. The Not So Good: - I don't really shop here as much as I would love to because I think they need to better their COVID protocols. For example, I think they should limit the amount of people that come inside. - It would be nice if the kitchen staff workers would ensure that their naked fingers not touch the food when placing it into the to-go containers - The organic avocados are like twice or more the amount here vs. buying them for generally .99 at the North Coast Co Op (and they're good quality at the Co Op) Hopefully the next time I come here, I'll see that the COVID-19 measures in place are better. read more

I paid $22 for wine yesterday and when I tasted it, it had obviously turned... tasted sour and mildewy. Tried to take it back with receipt and they refused to refund it saying that they don't refund alcohol. So does that mean I just need to not buy wine at Safeway anymore? Because there are bad bottles.... it was obvious that it hadn't been drank except for the small bit that was first poured. I'm really bummed about this! Their selection is, of course, extraordinarily good. You wouldn't know it from curbside and home delivery, though. I used home delivery 2 days ago, and the driver/safeway had left the refrigerated items bag at Safeway. When I immediately called about it, they weren't very interested in scheduling a delivery... and the driver said it wasn't his concern. Ahhh.... I see. Then I tried curbside delivery today, which was extremely prompt once I arrived at the store; HOWEVER, when I got home the bananas were the most green bananas I've ever seen in my life, should take about a week before they're edible -- and they did not include the two most critical items, saying they were sold out. Perhaps they could have contacted me to tell me the items weren't in stock, and I should choose something else? No. They didn't. So... I'm underwhelmed with their willingness to communicate with me. If I'm desperate, I'll use either curbside or home delivery, but I now don't trust them to either pick well in the store or to communicate problems with me. read more

We stopped in to grab a few things to eat for our camp and long drive home tomorrow. For dinner for myself I had the deli make me a pastrami sandwich on white with pepper jack cheese, fresh spinach, dill pickles, red onions, and mayo. Really good sandwich for $7.99. Girlfriend got California rolls and seaweed salad which she really enjoyed. Typical Safeway prices (not cheap) but the quality was definitely there. One checker thought it was necessary to tell the man shopping in front of me that people from younger generations have no testosterone, and that all men from the 20s-60s even in old age have more testosterone than young men now. Why would you even say that? While the customer is walking away, instead of ringing up my items, it was more important to her to keep getting the same customer's attention as he's walking away 3 different times, over 20ft away. I love waiting unnecessary extra time for a boomer to stroke her ego. No greeting, and being in my mid-20s and a Vet I definitely let her know she was full of shit. That was so disrespectful to so many men my age I had the pleasure of working with, and who are trying to find our way in this world forsaken by previous generations. I think the best part is when the lines are filling up the walk ways, but they have 4 employees standing around, chatting at the self checkout area. But don't worry about it, you can just go through one of the 3 open lanes and deal with them. I'm noticing a common theme that standing around and talking is the art of the deal here. I always do self checkout, but make sure your machine is 100% functional otherwise you might be standing there in 5 minute intervals waiting for the employee to comeback to their station, to fix the machine that randomizes when it does and doesn't work. After a few interactions with the checkers, it makes me anxious thinking I can get in line and have a stupid interaction or do it myself and spend some extra time. I don't like interacting with the Starbucks employees, they don't give a fuck, they'd rather just continue the conversation they're having and maybe get around to ringing you up. Here's your shit, go away. I mean I get it, I was in a position like that at one point in my life. Doing work you don't want to do, for a check that might be too small (but I doubt that considering McDonalnds will pay above min wage) and it's hard to have a good attitude toward customers being assholes daily. But I'm a quiet and neutral person, and it seems like ~80% of Yelp reviews are blown out of proportion. I think if I'm having a hard time coming here, undoubtedly others are. If you can get around people standing in the middle of aisles so you can't pass, the employees, and the dumbass parking lot then this isn't that bad of a store. The produce is generally good. I rarely have to choose different products, it's very well stocked. The managers seem like they care and interact with their employees. On several different occasions I've seen the same manager stocking different aisles which is really uncommon. It seems like the problem is that the managers are younger, so some of the employees think they can do and say whatever they want. Especially if the employees are older. My brain is saying give 2 stars, but I'm giving 3 stars out of good faith that the store in terms of layout, options and stock is good, and that management cares. read more

This one star is for Starbucks in Safeway. Every person there is rude. DERRICK the manager has said he hates happy customers. He doesn't want to bs about your day. He couldn't even hand me a napkin when I asked please. My drink was over filled and leaking and they acted like it was my fault. I will never use this Starbucks again! 4 stars mainly for the parking lot. The angle of entrance was complicated for our short-bed truck with traffic trying to exit at the same time. If I was a jerk, I would've made others move out of my way, but waited and thankfully didn't have traffic behind me. It's a clean Safeway with the advantage of being open 24 hours, which is nice because it can be a mad house in the parking lot at peak times. I avoid this location at peak times because of this. Getting into/out of the lot can be a challenge, and it is compounded by being on a busy corner with a drug store and gas station nearby. The offerings are pretty consistent across the board, though: deli, booze, produce. You know the drill. On the plus side, this location has the self-checkout lanes that are usually open and so you're less likely to get stuck in line behind 37 HSU kids grocery shopping and breaking up the tab 16 different ways in varying amounts. They do have a Starbucks inside, if you need a coffee fix. read more

This is my closest grocery store. I like it. It's clean and well lit. The employees are always friendly. I sometimes shop for others (Instacart) and I'm under time pressure when I do. One of the employees helped me find items and then even opened a register just for me! My only complaint is the parking lot; it's horrible. There's a blind spot as you come around the corner from Harrison and they always have the excess shopping carts stores right there. read more

This Safeway is oh so shiny! There is a Starbucks located inside (major win!) and the store itself has a plethora of anything and everything you could ever need or want. My boyfriend and I watched this place being built up over a series of visits to Humboldt county and we were excited to finally explore it when it was put up. Why would you put your dipping dots container after your registers? After someone has already gone through the entire store and payed?? We drove 30 miles to find dipping dots and had to settle for some other ice cream in the ice cream isle because we thought this store didn't carry it, ONLY for us to see the freezer on our way out next to a lottery machine. HORRIBLE STORE DISPLAY, such a simple task to put dipping dots next to the ice cream isle. It would take five minutes to move the freezer to the correct location. This is the only safety I've seen that puts the freezer after the register. Very disappointed, ruined our night. As well as not so friendly cashiers. read more

The parking lot is awful. It has a terrible layout. Really can be dangerous. I don't know why there is such a problem, but it makes most sense to enter by the Walgreens on Harrison, and park in the back corner. Avoid the crazy dictated lane directions. As for the store. It is good. Tends to be on the expensive side. I try to use the Club card on everything and that brings the cost down. There is another discount method called U, but I have difficulty using that. There is rarely more than 2 registers open, but there is self-checkout. Sometimes this will lead to long lines. A deli and Starbucks (that closes at 8) are also present. They generally have everything you need. 24 hours operating hours are great. Store is, like I said expensive, but it is on the higher income side of town. read more

This store was very nice. Visiting the area I was happy to find that they had a grocery store that I have a home. I love Safeway because they have great prices and I always save a decent amount with their app. This store looked new and the employees were all friendly. Everyone had on mask which is always a plus. They had arrows directing the flow of traffic but no one followed it and it was not enforced. I was surprised to see a full liquor section that was fully stocked. The store was stocked at a decent level and I was only unable to find one item that I was looking for. The check out process was pretty quick for a 11 am trip on a weekday the cashier was friendly and made small talk. The best part of this Safeway is their Starbucks. The Starbucks was better than stand alone Starbucks. Both baristas on shift were extremely friendly and the older gentleman was an expert drink maker. I wish I could take them home to my local Starbucks. read more

Delivery service is mediocre at best. You may or may not get all the items you ordered. You may get charged for the items you didn't get. Keep a close eye or your receipts. If you get charged for something you didn't get, then you have to call the store to complain. You may or may not get a refund. I like the idea of home delivery but the way Safeway Eureka is doing it, customers are just getting ripped off. And the delivery charge is usually $9.95 a delivery! read more

This Safeway has great service. Taylor the blonde cashier was so helpful and nice! She is hilarious and made my Safeway experience wonderful. Decent Safeway, probably because it's newer. Clean and the staff are friendly enough. I'm not really a fan of Safeway in general but this one is pretty good. 3 stars for a Safeway is the equivalent of 5 stars anywhere else. Safeway's prices are too high at any location, the selection of food is largely unhealthy, etc. I do like that this location is within walking distance of my house however. Just about 2.5 miles with a few good hills in the mix. Good place to stumble late on a Saturday night, and you don't have to walk through bad neighborhoods to get to it. read more

This new locale is a frigging disaster. Frequently coupons don't scan correctly, even the in store one's they slap on things. Their customer service is disasterous. It's either aggressive overkill, or a complete lack thereof. As I shopped the last area which was bakery / booze / deli for fifteen minutes, I saw a guy waiting @ the deli counter getting no service whatsoever, even though he was waiting patiently. It was no wonder he was upset when someone finally came along. All the meanwhile you're hearing over the intercom that there are employees roaming to talk you into a Safeway card. That turned out to be a bit of a high pressure sales technique. They were also oddly overstaffed, even though people couldn't seem to get help when needed. They're obviously also treating the staff like garbage. As I was checking out a supervisor came along n forced the clerk to sign something saying she was greeting customers properly or she'd be reprimanded. Corporate greed at it's best. I also agree with a previous poster who stated parking is a nightmare. Despite them wasting a bunch of money on a new street light. Treating customers n employees like crap just won't work in this town. Just sayin'. read more
