We are visiting family in the area and wanted a good breakfast, not our hotel breakfast. Our breakfast was delicious and our server was very attentive. We had the biscuits and gravy and the Ham and Eggs. The cost of the meal was average for the area and well worth the price. The restaurant was clean and the aesthetic was peaceful and comfy. Why aren't there more people here? Place is clean, spacious and service was a pro! Started with soup and was very good. I ordered the NY steak dinner and didn't have to send it back, it was grilled perfectly and was tasty. Portions are good and price is fair. They have a huge menu. I'll be back another time for breakfast, it looked yummy. Two items didn't help, yelp states they close at 3, they are open until 8. and parking lot has minimum light so it doesn't look open. I was in town so I decided to stop for breakfast. It was a very good experience. The place was bright and clean, The people here were friendly and helpful. They have both inside and outside dining, with both dining areas being decent sized. I decided to go for the California omelette tomatoes, avocado, mushroom, olive slices, sour cream, green onions, as well as both Jack and cheddar cheese. The food comes, and it's a decent sized plate of food. The eggs were tender, The veggies were fresh, And there was a good portion of everything in the omelette. The cheese was just the right amount that it didn't overpower the entire omelette. I had it with a nice cup of fresh fruit, and a biscuit. The biscuit was tender, and a bit crunchy on the outside, which I really liked. The coffee was good, and they kept my cup full. What attracted me most to want to done here was their outdoor patio area. All of the plants!!!!!! And the windows letting in all the sunlight. We sat inside though because we had many children with us between my friend and I we are a group of ten! The customer service was on point and they never made us feel like having that many kids to tend to was a hassle for them. Our waitress was extremely pleasant and so was the gentleman that bussed our tables. Now the food, oh man that garlic chicken Philly sandwich was amazing! My friend ordered a hamburger that was unexpectedly gigantic and delicious she said! Very thorough menu for breakfast, lunch and now dinner until 7pm. Everything we've had at Windmills had been great and reasonably priced. Not fancy, but very comfortable with friendly staff. Some favorites include: fish and chips, crispy chicken salad, club sandwich, chicken sandwich and more. Large servings usually allow for "doggie bags" for a snack later. (It was also pretty good iced tea, which is rare.) Ordering an enchilada means I wasn't leaning into their strengths (this isn't a Mexican restaurant), and it was still really tasty in a cheerfully Americanized home-cooking way (which is about what I expected and not a criticism -- I ordered it as comfort food and was comforted). This used to be my favorite place. I always order the same thing, maybe that's my problem. The eggs always come out slimy, even when I request that the whites are cooked thoroughly. Every time I eat here now, I leave feeling sick. I actually enjoy the simplicity of this restaurant. More times than not, I've gotten a friendly waitress, but not every time. The owner is rude. Mediocre food at high-end prices. Please get people in the kitchen that know how to cook and waitresses that at least pretend to like their jobs. Breakfast was ok. My omelet was Luke warm and I should have asked it to be heated up. The mimosa flight was excellent.

I went with a group of four for breakfast, and everything we ordered was honestly horrible. We were served cold eggs and over cooked bacon. I ordered the avocado toast and the avocado was really under ripe! Everything on their menu is really over priced (like $20 a plate) especially for the quality and amount of food you receive. Windmills Cafe is a decent, old school, basic cafe. The best way to describe Windmills is that they're very similar to a place like Denny's...basic food at a reasonable price. Except Windmills isn't a big corporate chain restaurant. There were a lot of regulars and seniors around in the morning. That usually means cheap prices and friendly service. And that's certainly what I experienced. The food wasn't anything to write home about. But the cost was economical. And the service was very good. The building seems like it's pretty old & dated but it's clean. And that says a lot. I'll take old & clean over modern & dirty any day of the week. As a side note, I really like the local art that's displayed, some of which has prices and is for sale. Specifically, I'm talking about the pencil drawings of Star Roberts (see photo). My favorite place for lunch in Ukiah. The wait-staff are super friendly and fast. Their French fries are PERFECT. Servings are huge - salads and sandwiches are big enough to provide two meals. Unfortuanately...this was not how I wanted to end my great week with my family on a road trip. We stopped here for lunch on our way back to the Bay Area from Humboldt. We were starving and ready to eat! The setup of this place is strange and it's pretty obvious this building in one part of it's life was a drive-thru something. When we walked in, we were immediately seated at a large table in the back room. This place is a lower end Denny's on a good day. Carpets were dirty, some of the upholstery was ripped and busting out stuffing...this place needs some mending but it looks to be a hot spot with the people of Ukiah because it was busy. Our waitress was nice but she wasn't the best at service. We all ordered our food and received our drinks promptly. When our food arrived, my Grandma and my Uncle's food was wrong. They both ordered ham sandwiches but my Grandma asked for Sourdough and my Uncle asked for Rye. They received turkey sandwiches on sourdough?! Not sure how that order was messed up or how she missed it before giving it to them. My Uncle was fine and settled on eating it but Grandma doesn't like turkey and wanted Ham. We mentioned this to the waitress and no "Sorry" or "Opps"...nothing. She simply grabbed the plate from my Grandma and walked away. Uhhhmmm okay? She did come out with the right order and just placed it in front of Grandma...again no apology or anything acknowledging the mix up. It wasn't a big deal but I thought she could have been a little nicer about it. Food here is mediocre and overpriced. I ordered the BLAST which was their version of a BLT. For $9 it was okay. My Mom and I shared it along with a huge salad that was $9. Yes...$9 for a salad! Bleu Cheese dressing was good but I don't recommend the raspberry vinaigrette. There is nothing vinaigrette about it. It's super sweet and resembles melted ice cream. My whole family was not thrilled with their lunch unfortunately and felt it was overpriced for what what we got. Service is not very good here either. I would go elsewhere if I was in Ukiah again BUT if you do stop by....you have to check out their women's bathroom LOL! It will give you a good chuckle ;) read more

Went on Sunday for lunch. Sat on the patio. It was warm. They could use some fans. The food is pricey and is average. Service was good. Saw 2 women and, later, one young man, without masks, enter the restaurant. The women left at the same time we did and they were still maskless. Called this morning and was referred to the manager who claimed he couldn't hear me and hung up. I called back immediately and was told that the manager was unavailable. I was happily supprised about the interior of the Windmill Cafe. Great lighting and the decor was tasteful. Our waitress, ( whose name escapes me at this time ), was both patient and curtious. Fast cooking time and was supprised at how large the portion of my meal was. I ordered the Big California Burger, and would suggest it to anybody looking for a craft burger for under $12.00 dollars. Beautifully toasted french roll, crisp toppers & fries and cooked ,(medium), just as I ordered. Now, to the nitty gritty. The only thing I can remember that struck me strange was the ketchup. It didn't come to you in bottles, but in small dip containers!?!? Seems a little redundant but that is the only thing that was off. We went in there for the first time in several years. I believe there are new owners since the last time I was in but not sure. The ambience is still quite awkward. Since I didn't go there to look at the decor let's move onto the food. Ordered ONE blue cheese burger "med-rare to med" (because I knew if I said medium, it would most likely come out well done). Apparently my vain attempt mattered not because it still came out well done ok so we ordered this -blue cheese burger med rare to med -came w fries (asked for *garlic fries) - one ice tea - one side salad with ranch and Italian 1. Burger over cooked badly 2. Blue cheese tasted old (even for blue cheese) 3. Bun was like 3" sesame jr size 4. Fries had like 1/4 ts garlic-No salt-under cooked 5. Bill was $22 before tip!!' One burger and side salad and tea was $22? Dang!! Only thing we could come up with is we got up-charged for the 1/4 ts garlic on the fries and the extra 2 oz of kraft Italian dressing and some ranch for the fries. For the price compared to the quality and quantity is why this place only gets 2 stars from me. read more

Took forever to get our food. My pancakes had to be cut with a knife and were like slightly warm pieces rubber. The sausage patties were the size of a silver dollar and took a long time to get a coffee refill. My wife's meal was cold and had to be sent back to be nuked, all of this for over $30.00. Chorizo and eggs are AWESOME here! Everything is separated and easy to pinch with a tortilla. The avocado provided is always vibrant. I am a fan. I am pretty sure all other breakfast items are safe here too. I only go here for breakfast. I tried cheese burgers once and they weren't that great. I remember the buns being soggy. Windmills's Cafe's menu doesn't accommodate vegetarians or vegans. Everything else was very nice, family friendly, spacious, clean, and comfortable. Windmills Cafe often supports local causes, including our Senior Center, so my appreciation led me to dine there. I found everything enjoyable except that there was nothing for me to order. (I don't usually eat meat, eggs, or cheese). I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with fries for about $9.50 with tax. The serving of fries was very generous. For carnivores there was a wide selection and some really good values. For example, some prime beef cuts for $12.95 on their dinner menu. I would love to see menu choices that don't include meat, egg, or cheese. For example, fresh fruit or vegetables in season, corn on the cob, baked potato, vegeburgers, cucumbers slices topped with humus., deep fried battered vegetables or onion rings cooked in oil not used for cooking meat. I would love to be able to order something along those lines next time I visit. This restaurant has a pleasant ambiance. There's patio seating with movable tables to accommodate a group of any size. The spacious dining area has a comfortable mix of booths and tables. Staff was friendly and efficient without exception. If you are a carnivore who enjoys budget-friendly prices, free parking and a menu with many choices of meat, eggs and cheese, you're gonna love this place! read more
