It's been three years since I had a quarter sized windshield crack "repaired" at this place. Just wanted to give credit where credit is due. I caught a rock driving and reached out to "Windshield Pros" because of the good reviews on yelp. So when I arrive the guy starts with the repairs - specifically pumping resin into the crack, but it doesn't seem to do anything, so he adds more pressure, still nothing but the crack is getting bigger, finally some black tar spits out and fills the crack a little bit. The whole time this guy is saying that "it probably is not going to work", finally he gives up and looks at the tool he uses, notices something is off, proceeds to clean it and give it another go. This time clear resin starts to flow and fills up the crack half way, all of a sudden he gets visibly upset, pulls the tool off the windshield and tells me that now I need the whole windshield replaced because he messed up the repair. Apparently the tool he used to fix the problem was clogged with some black crap and he failed to inspect it prior to using it. Offered to replace the windshield for just the cost of the part, which made me laugh - how can you trust someone who completely messes up a small, simple repair with a bigger job? I ordered a simple windshield repair kit and patched it up myself - the crack remains small and hasn't spread till this day even though "Windshield Pros" "expert" told me it's not gonna last a month. I think they should rename their business to "Windshield Amateurs" and even that would be giving them too much credit. TLDR: they botched a small repair and refused to fix their mess. Terrific and fast service. Drove up to the shop with a rock chip in my windshield. Guy said "you're in luck, just got another job done". Got it fixed in 30 minutes. He quoted $80 for one chip and $15 for additional chips, but took less than half of that in cash which is all I had in my wallet. My 1984 VW Vanagon had a small crack in the windshield from a rock ding two years ago. The crack had been there without spreading. But this winter, after a snow storm and cold temperatures in March 2020, the crack ran all the way across the glass. Time for a replacement. Even though our window replacement ended up requiring additional parts, I completely trust the information that John provided and I am completely satisfied with the cost and pleased with the end product. --- Here are the details. This summer while on vacation from San Diego our 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser's windshield was demolished by falling pine cones. I call them pine cone missiles. I had returned to San Diego leaving my wife an son to enjoy Lake Tahoe when she discovered the broken windshield. I did a web search looking for a quality company with a reasonable price. I called several companies and received various quotes. After speaking with John, comparing prices and reading the reviews I chose Windshield Pros of Tahoe. My wife did her own search and after talking with John she texted me what she found. Kind of amazing that we both made the same choice. We had replaced our windshield in 2012 and did not know how poorly the work was done at that time. The San Diego company had cut every corner, re-used damaged seals and essentially installed the windshield in such a way that it could not be replaced without replacing additional seals and rails. Once John saw the windshield and realized that he needed to replace the seals that were ruined by the previous company, he called me and explained the cost and that it would take several days to get the parts. I agreed to the price increase and John, knowing that we were under a time crunch to get the windshield replaced, did the work on his day off and although it took him AND a helper multiple hours (according to my wife), which is obviously more than he originally estimated, he charged me the original price plus the additional parts. I saw a rock ding my windshield and I wanted to get it repaired before it could turn into a crack and lead to needing the windshield replaced. I have used windshield pros of Tahoe a few years back to repair some other dings. I left a message, and they called me back shortly after. I was able to set up a convenient appointment time. He called before he came out (but I was vacuuming and didn't hear the phone). They came to my house again, and John inspected my windshield and told me the "new ding" I thought I had, was actually one of the old ones he repaired years ago. He said my windshield is actually all good, and even inspected the area of my windshield where he said most people don't realize they get dings/early cracks.
