The same way we can go to the most remote place in the boondocks- like Hancock, NY by the Delaware River and settle for (almost) anything that's open. As far as breakfast or lunch (in our case) is concerned, Maple Room in Hancock made the cut. Not for their 'fine dining' ingredients- but really, as the ONLY thing that was actually operating on a desolate and late Tuesday morning. The Maple Room is Hancock House Hotel's bar on the left side and dining room to the right. We chose the first. It has an all-around counter, an 'internet jukebox' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, booth seating and high-tops. We decided to pull-up at the bar. Seltzer in our drinks was fresh and so were the Fish & Chips basket my husband ordered and my Fried Fish Sandwich. Our server Sherry has been around a while- yet was quick. Maple Room feels dated. But the food was comforting and I was digging the Bryan Adams and Huey Lewis & The News music though.

I didn't realize at the time until she reminded me but we actually had a gift certificate from this restaurant hanging out in our refrigerator from like 5 years earlier. So after ordering our breakfast I asked the waitress if it was even a possibility to still use it and she said sure no problem. So anyway, our breakfast was wonderful, the waitress was really nice even if she hadn't given me permission to use an old gift certificate, and the place looked pretty clean. I checked when I got back to the house and it had actually been 8 years for that gift certificate but we went back for lunch and caught the same waitress, and yeah no problem they let us use it Lunch was just as good as breakfast was. They do have a secret sauce there I asked what was in it because I saw it on the menu expecting her to tell me what it was and she said that she wasn't allowed to so it really is a secret. I did get to try some however and it's rather tasty in fact I suggest it to her that perhaps the owners could put it in bottles and sell it maybe just there at the restaurant anyway. I mean I would have bought a little bottle. But yeah, we both had a chicken sandwich and some sweet potato fries, and everything was rather tasty. Next time we are in the area we will definitely go back

It's very clean, beautifully decorated, and has a menu with so many options that it was hard to decide what to order. I was with my daughter and my two grandchildren, and we all ordered personal pan pizzas. My daughter and I also had side salads. The owner, John, greeted us and took such wonderful care of our family. He was incredibly friendly, personable, and amazing with the kids. When he brought out our salads, he surprised the grandchildren with their own little plates of salad and a dollop of ranch dressing so they could enjoy a salad too. It was such a thoughtful gesture. Our pizzas came out very quickly, and John paid attention to every little detail. The adults' pizzas were cut normally, but he cut our two-year-old's pizza into tiny bite-sized squares and sliced our four-year-old's pizza into very thin pieces that were easy for him to eat. They were both so excited! Even more impressive, our four-year-old--who is an extremely picky eater--ate his entire pizza, which almost never happens. Before we left, we decided to pick up dinner for later and ordered Reubens along with a quart of the smoky chicken and fire-roasted vegetable soup. Everything was absolutely incredible! It's rare to find a place with delicious food, outstanding service, and such genuine hospitality. John made us feel like valued guests, and those extra touches made our visit truly memorable.
