In my mental cheat sheet of wine bars, Wine:30 consistently lands in the middle echelons. Unlike a first round stud (Casa Mono) or a mid-round darling sleeper (Grape & Grain), Wine:30 exhibits a plodding Joseph Addai-like consistency, but no where near the flash and substance of Ray Rice. Of wines, they maintain a borderline impressive collection of vintages and varietals, serve adequate food, and are reasonably knowledgeable on the subject of wines. Oenophile friendly, a 'neighborhood gem', romantic, or what have you - they do their job without notable superlatives. I owe Wine:30 a big thanks, as this place saved my friendship with a girl I dearly love. You see, I was fuming before we walked in here for brunch on a coldish Sunday earlier this fall. My friend had refused to wait an hour and a half at another nearby gem, because she was "too hungry to wait". I was ready to throw her in front of a car, or worse, a UPS truck. I had really been looking forward to brunch at that place. But I put myself in her shoes, counted backwards from ten, and we darted around the neighbourhood looking for an adequate replacement. Wine:30 was cute, quaint... and empty- it was perfect, although I had not realised that yet. Service was prompt and friendly. Our salads came out within minutes, and were excellent. The mixed greens was a very pleasant and light bowlful. Then came the french toast and blueberry pancakes, and no longer was I upset at missing out on nutella french toast at the other place. This french toast was better, perfectly soft, moist and fluffy with a hint of crunch on the exterior. The pancakes were good too, although they could have used more blueberries. Overall, a brunch well-done, and one that got me back here for dinner (good sliders, better lamb chops, and their cheese selection had some delicious offerings with very helpful descriptions on the menu). Wine:30 might as well be named Cute:30 or Yum:30. But the most accurate appellation would probably be Business Lunch:30. I've now been to two lovely business lunches here and I've found it reliable and reasonably priced. While their salads are fresh and filling, I think one of the standouts of the food here is actually their dips. Who doesn't love hot, fluffy pita wedges and cool, creamy dips? My favorites are easily the cucumber-dill yogurt and the guacamole. I think a special shout-out to Jenny is well deserved. She's always warm and knowledgeable about Wine:30's offerings. I've never actually seen this joint busy (which is an utter shame!), and I wonder if it might get overwhelming for a single person to serve the whole floor. Still, she's always been understanding and accommodating, even when we've been faced with tight timing on getting in and out of here. Amazing dinner spot! The outdoor space was nice for a warm day for a date night. We ordered garlic shrimp, cheese plate, and Brussels sprouts. All the food are delicious and the atmosphere was quite relaxing. We also order a nice Lambrusco red sparkling wine which was fabulous too! I was there for a special celebration and the manager was great to provide a special dessert for my partner. The service was great and I will definitely come back again. Inching into my late 20's, I've picked up a new obsession - Wine. I can get a little trashy, but pretend to be a little classy all at the same time! Could there be a bigger win than this? I spent a lot of time reading reviews for the wine bars around the area we were staying and ended up at Wine:30 after finding out that my first choice was closed on New Year's day. We came around 9pm (New Year's day - Friday night) and found the place to be relatively empty. Bonus for us as the space was small, and even for NY standards, the tables were too close together (seriously, about 6 inches apart). If you're on a date and looking to having an intimate conversation, think twice before you take her/him here. As for the drinks, I had a glass of wine and my date had a moscow mule (which he said was good). We also shared the two cheese and one meat plate -- featuring the Niman Ranch Jambon Royale, literally just tastes like ham, the Moses Sleeper, supposed to be a more spreadable cheese but was def not, and the Pecorino di Vino, a stiff cheese that had hints of vino, def my favorite for the night. I have only ever written 2 reviews in my life. This place had the ABSOLUTE worst food I've had in my time on this earth. I feel bad because the staff is very nice and attentive but I'm not kidding the food was awful. Although Wine:30 was not without its good points, I was not very impressed with this place. My girlfriend and I wanted to take advantage of the nice weather on Friday night and did a quick Yelp search for restaurants with outdoor seating within walking distance, and we settled on Wine:30 after reviewing the menu and some of the recent reviews. Reservations were easy to make via their web site. When we arrived, the place was very busy, which I usually interpret as a good sign (as long as the staff can effectively handle it). It took a few minutes for us to be acknowledged as there is not really a designated host/hostess area. The hostess confirmed our reservation and took us to our table, which was outside towards the back of the restaurant in a nice open-air backyard type of space. The restaurant really is larger than it seems from the outside. One of the waitstaff arrived shortly and told us the wine specials and an appetizer special - a seafood salad with crab, cantaloupe, and another melon which I don't recall. We didn't place our order until a different server came by about ten minutes later. We ordered the appetizer special and the tomato/mozzarella balsamic bruschetta. For the main course, my girlfriend ordered the short ribs with mashed potatoes, carrots, onions, and leeks, and I ordered the NY strip steak with potatoes and mixed greens. The appetizers were delicious and the highlights of the meal, which is unfortunate when they are the first things that you eat. After we finished, this is where the restaurant lost points with me. It took 45 minutes for our main course to come out, a wait time long enough that one of the waitstaff actually took our utensils (before dinner arrived) and asked us if we would like to see a dessert menu. This is more easily excusable if the wait time was 30 minutes or so, because I'm not so unforgiving that I don't know that everyone makes mistakes, but at that point you start to wonder if your order was ever even put in. The waitstaff member made a reasonable assumption - why wouldn't we have finished our dinner or at least been close to it 45 minutes after we had ordered it? Once dinner arrived, we were happy at first. The steak was cooked to medium rare as I had asked and the short ribs tasted good. However, within a few minutes, the ribs became very dry and started to be more representative of brisket instead of short ribs. Also, when I got to the last quarter of my steak, it was mostly gristle, which I had to surreptitiously transfer from my mouth to a napkin (not a very pleasurable nor gentlemanly thing to do). This was a real turn-off for me, but it takes more for me to lose my appetite, so my girlfriend and I decided to order dessert. I ordered the fresh fruit plate and she ordered the panna cotta, both of which were good. All in all, I expected more from a place with a 4 star average on Yelp. Perhaps they were having an off night, or maybe my review would get a one star increase if we had tried any of the wine, but I can safely say that with so many other restaurants in the city to try, we won't be coming back to Wine:30. We enjoyed Saturday brunch on their gorgeous patio. This is a small store front that you could pass up but, I would highly recommend making reservations and dining on brunch here. The decor on the inside is warm and inviting but, the bathrooms are single stall and the one is very tiny. If you can dine on the outdoor patio please do; the ambiance makes you feel like you aren't in a city but, are dining in a cafe with nice art and the busy streets are a world away. I ordered the breakfast bruschetta that came with mixed greens. The bread was perfectly crisped beneath the egg and bacon. The pico on top was a nice touch and I opted to add some Tabasco for a little heat (very evident that I have been living in Texas way too long). We went in for apps and a few beers. My cousin had been there many times, so I let him do the ordering. Wise choice. We had hummus, cucumber dip, lollipop sausage, and something else (but I forgot). Everything was excellent. The server came and introduced herself, and kept an eye on us the entire time. We did not have wine, but did get a chance to peak at the wine cellar that was excavated by Vulcan! Happy birthday! My favorite local hangout just celebrated its second birthday, and like any two-year-old, my how Wine:30 has grown! I've been coming here since before the beer & wine license arrived and have watched this once-tiny place expand from its original front room to the sidewalk seats out front, the back room, the cellar, and the brand new wooden deck out back. Wine:30 x 4 and it's jam-packed most evenings. But one thing hasn't changed and that's the quality. The wine and beer are great, so are the food and (most of) the music, but what makes Wine:30 the best wine bar in the city are the people. The owner is a solid guy and has a knack for finding friendly faces. I find myself stopping by regularly just to chat and catch up on the day. Sure, I'm a regular, but they give the same warm reception to anyone who wanders in off the street. So stop on in and say happy birthday. Any time is great, but late nights are best, when the crowd thins out and the conversations deepen. It's the best thing to happen to 30th Street since pavement. read more

When she told me she was pregnant, I thought of going to to Wine 30 with her and her husband to celebrate. I made a reservation for Fri night at 5:30 to avoid the crowd, but told my daughter that I would go by the restaurant to request for a table away from other people. When I showed up, the receptionist told me to take a look of the courtyard, but when I asked her for a specific table, the bartender (maybe the owner) told me that the restaurant wasn't for customers like me. From walking in, I've noticed a more intimate and romantic indoor seating area. It's a bit quieter inside , therefore it makes a perfect spot for a date night. My friend and I decided to pick the outdoor garden seating. It's even more beautiful outside, but it can get noisy. As you're eating, you can admire the night sky as well. What was really cool was that they have an electronic covering over the roof during the end of the night so it's not too cold. Think of it as a convertible restaurant, they can open and close the roof as deemed necessary. Now onto the food. Since it's a wine bar, I had to order a few glasses. I like my wine white, sweet and smooth and the waiter was able to recommend a German Riesling, which was a perfect pairing with my dishes. We ordered the combo dips: Cucumber-Dill yogurt (MY FAVORITE), spicy tomato & pepper dip (sweet with a bit of a kick), and homemade guacamole. They have toasted pita bread and tortilla chips to dip it in the sauce. I went there on a weekday afternoon when no other customers were in sight...I can't imagine being crammed in there on a weekend night, miserable! This place has some serious cool vibes. When you walk in you think it's this teeny tiny wine bar but then it hits you that the restaurant extends all the way out to the back patio. For those of you worried about winter weather conditions (aren't we all) - we were seated in the covered patio and it was plenty warm. We also ordered the pan fried cigars and the zucchini cakes. The zucchini cakes were bursting with flavor. They were absolutely amazing. They came with some yogurt dill dip so knowing that now we probably wouldn't have ordered the dip as an appetizer. But it did pair perfectly with the zucchini. The cigars on the other hand fell a little short. They were advertised as pastrami and cheese stuffed little rolls of phyllo dough. It was TOUGH to spot any meat in those things. Don't get me wrong they were good but they were basically cheese. I assumed we would have to wait to be seated but they seated us right away!! and in the garden in the back. (loving the fact that its 60degrees in the middle of December). They have a cool backyard (that's enclosed in the colder months), a kickass wine selection, and a pretty impressive food menu. Saw a lot of people getting the burger or the sliders, but decided to be fancy and get charcuterie instead. Got the two cheese and one meat combo. Got the Manchego, which is one of my all-time favorite cheeses, a soft French cheese akin to brie (Brillat Savarin), and for the meat, Pastirma (which is spice rubbed beef). Wasn't a fan of the Pastirma, but the cheeses were great, and they give you a CRAP TON of bread. Three different types. My favorite was the toasted raisin bread. Could just eat that by itself. What a cute little restaurant! During times like these, it's hard to find a restaurant that has actual outdoor dining that doesn't sit you on the side of the street or on a busy sidewalk. I sat at the back of the restaurant which had a garden-like setting and dim lighting. It wasn't crowded, there was at least 6ft of distance between others diners, and it wasn't loud to the point I couldn't hear myself or my date speak. There was hand sanitizer available and staff members wore masks. I did have to wait about ten minutes before my date waved a waiter over to take our order. The wine menu was a little hard to read because the print was very fine, but our waiter helped us navigate it. We ordered mussels, tuna tartare, and shrimp from the appetizer menu. Sat in their back patio which seemed like such a hidden gem. It's outside with heaters and greenery almost feeling like you're inside. They have an extensive wine list and our server was happy to help us pick the right one for us. We did need to order food as soon as we ordered a drink. A really cute place in midtown with a nice outdoor patio in the back as well as additional sidewalk seating out front. I like Malbecs, and we were originally going to go with the 2013 Malbec, but our waitress promised us that we wouldn't regret the extra $8 dollars that we would spend on the 2012 Malbec. Actually, I believe her words were something along the lines of: "I promise you will come back just for this". So we took her up on it. I enjoyed my entire half bottle of the 2012, but I really have nothing to compare that to, so I can't say that the 2013 was any worse... Our waitress was super friendly and attentive until she found out that we weren't planning on having dinner. She didn't completely ignore us afterwards, but she definitely kept out of our way. She also caught herself from making a face right after we told her we weren't planning on having food..but by then we already felt super uncomfortable. I just want to say that it is not indicated anywhere in the restaurant or on the menu that it is required to order food in order to sit down at a table, and we did order a whole bottle of wine, which probably cost as much as 2 entrees - with an even higher mark-up for them...so maybe we arrived a little earlier than expected for only wanting do get drinks...Who knows. But I was really turned off from wanting to return because of the reaction we got. read more

Stumbled upon this hidden gem on 30 street and had a fabulous lunch. Walking into the room we immediately noticed the unique cork ceiling created from wines uncorked over the last 11 years (which we found out from our waiter). We were seated at a nice table with a beautiful view of their outdoor patio/private party room and were greeted by the amazing Andrew - waiter extraordinaire! Fabulous personality, attentive and pleasant service.. all wait staff should be so good. Oh and the food and wine were great. We loved the crab cakes, flatbreads and beet salad. We were pleasantly surprised at the end of our meal with complimentary mini cupcakes - Yum! Will definitely be back again. read more

Came here for brunch with friends and the food was AMAZING. Service was great and they did not rush us or anything. The quinoa salad with the shrimp was delicious. You should definitely get the dip trio that comes with pita bread and tortilla chips with a selection of three different dips you would like and the three cheese selection (pictures posted below). read more

This restaurant has excellent food and service. Perfectly seasoned dishes and well prepared. Service flow was great and wait staff attentive. Kitchen operations smooth and food arrived in a timely manner without long wait. The wine list is extensive and outstanding. The ambiance is perfect for a regular / quiet dinner or special occasion. Chill and relaxing vibe. If larger group, recommend seating in the outdoor covered patio which is nice and cozy. read more
