This place has Baijiu, a potent Chinese alcohol that I've heard tastes fairly bad, but is one of the world's most popular liquors by the numbers. Even though most people haven't heard of it, it gets drank in huge quantities. I came in here from Texas, where I have searched high and low for this liquor. It can't be found there. I couldn't anyhow. In here, they had a selection of maybe 30 different kinds of baijiu in different price points. I admitted to the clerk that I had no idea what I was doing, but wanted something good for beginners. He came around and gave me a bottle of the cheaper end stuff that's 52% alcohol. Score. I haven't tried it yet. I saw that he also had a wide selection of Chinese wines and a bit of beer. I've heard that most of the restaurants in this Chinese plaza are BYOB, so this is a good place if you wanna add to the authenticity of the beverages of the restaurants you're dining in, this place is clutch. I only went inside to escape the light rain, but I ended up having the nicest experience with the two owners, a sweet older couple. They immediately made me feel welcome, chatting with me, giving me suggestions on places to check out in the city, and just radiating kindness. By the time I was ready to leave, it was pouring outside. They offered me a plastic bag to protect my things and encouraged me to stay until the rain slowed down. It was such a small gesture, but it really left an impression. While I was there I also noticed how warmly they greeted every customer who came in, and people were genuinely happy to stop by. This was such a memorable and heartwarming first impression of Chicago. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend stopping by this shop to say hello to the wonderful owners. They truly make their customers feel cared for.
