Anything and everything chocolate, we decided to pop in here this afternoon and the place was decked out for Halloween! Purple is one of my favorite colors and it just fits in this place! Try one of the fabulous chocolate cakes here and some of their scrumptious cookies! Looking for a unique gift for a friend? You can find it here that's for sure! One day for my birthday I received a chocolate guitar which was so cool! My kid loves coming here and he really enjoyed picking a gift for his friend's birthday which just happens to fall on Halloween! They celebrate later this evening. All the staff were dressed in Halloween costumes! Spider-Man seemed to be a popular theme and spiderwebs were woven throughout! The lattes here are pretty good! I have a sweet tooth so I don't know why I haven't been to The Chocolate Bar! My friend was celebrating her birthday and decided to come here after dinner. There are so many options! It's kind of overwhelming. I knew for sure that I wanted to try the chocolate tres leches cake since tres leches is my absolute favorite. I also got a piece of the blondie brownie. The cake was good, but I didn't love the icing. I had whipped cream on top and that was yummy. I didn't try the brownie until the next day and it was really good. It would have been really good with ice cream but I didn't have any lol. Speaking of ice cream, I tried a bite of the snowberry ice cream and it was slap your momma good! It's chocolate covered strawberries mixed into vanilla ice cream. I think I may have to get it the next time I go. That or some affogato. My friend had affogato with a scoop of cookie dough and loved it. We pretty much all loved our desserts. I'm a fan! read more

This is my birthday place - because if I came here more than once a year I would not fit through "conventionally sized" doors. Everything here is so awesome it takes one hour to ever choose anything - I would like one of everything generally, but I always limit myself to one piece of cake ... and whatever else anyone I am with will let me try a piece of from their order. My first time here I actually went with the ice cream instead of the cake - this ice cream is super-filling. I went with the big boy option of multiple scoops to combine espresso ice cream and the s'mores. I take my ice cream seriously and this was good stuff. Unlike some of the other ice cream shops (Marble Slab) this actually fills you up like an entire meal could. My favorite thing here is the cake though - my favorite is the Candylicious Junkyard. This is one of the best cakes in the world. A slice of it is a little slice of your most favorite thing in the world - lots and lots of candy! I feel like this cake was made specifically with me in mind. My desk at work is always a graveyard of assorted candy bar wrappers. The employees are hit or miss. Last time in I had some great service. The time before that they were straight up ignoring me and my girlfriend until she raised her voice to the point we had to get some service. So who knows. They have so much other stuff besides ice cream and cake .... I just have to limit myself to that rather than throwing up the floodgates of eating one of everything in the store. I've only been here twice but I just love this place. I wish I could eat everything! Last time I was there my husband and I split a slice of the deep dish pecan pie. I don't usually like pecan pie but I really liked this one. The slice was so big we couldn't even finish it so I took the leftovers home. I also had the European hot chocolate. I swear it's like drinking melted chocolate. It's soooo... rich and thick. I would recommend drinking it all before it cools completely or you'll need a spoon to get it out. read more

Chocolate bar is the ultimate place for chocolate indulgence. Their chocolate cakes look straight out of Matilda, and the ice creams are packed with gooey, crunchy, yummy chocolate. If you can handle it, go for a cake a la mode to get the best of both, but I would only recommend it if you're sharing (say with a group of 10....). Everything also is great standing alone. As a warning, you should probably get a small ice cream your first time. It may look like it won't be satisfying, but the ice cream is so dense and full of nuts, fruits, marshmallows, etc that you may not even finish a small. I have yet to try their array of chocolate dipped cereals and fruits, but I know that I'll be back another time. read more

Since the last cold season, it's clear that the size of your hot chocolate (not the shot) has shrunk--but the price hasn't. It's a bit insulting to my intelligence and patronage for the size (ounce) to lessen while the price remains the same. I have regularly purchased the hot chocolate during the cold season, and this season I was presented with a considerably smaller cup of chocolate. Let's be honest: the hot chocolate consists of left over chocolate shaving and heavy whipping cream. While I'm well aware of inflation and a sometimes decreasing profit margin, I don't know that such is the case here. If it were the case, it seems like the size would have remained the same while the cost would have increased. I could appreciate that much more than what seems to be a sneaky and deceiving business practice. I say that because the clerks are still referring to it as the (8 or 12, I cannot recall) portion size. Please, get it together. Otherwise, I can stick to hot tea... Experience was mediocre on top of the exorbitant prices for sub-par chocolate. Service seems to be hit or miss, and in our case proved to be the latter. We paid almost $17 for four truffles and a large chocolate strawberry (which turned out to be as "large" as the regular strawberries) and much to our surprise found our assortment just thrown carelessly into the bag with no buffers between them. Strawberry was soggy and wet and soaked the truffles due to the negligence. Won't be coming back. read more

Omg. Dear god. This place is so good and heaven for all chocolate lovers. The parking is limited - there's about 3 spots right in front of the store in the shopping center. Walking in you're greeted with an awesome sight of ice cream and different chocolate creations. I tried the mint chocolate ice cream which was absolutely delicious, and I bought the chocolate tres leches. Soooooo good. It's all very pricey but totally worth it! I like it. The Chocolate Bar is a fun little shop with all sort of interesting chocolate shapes. There are champagne bottles, horseshoes, cats, dogs, spoons, pizzas, hammers, other tools, cellphones, baby bottles, cigars, occupation gift boxes (like doctors, nurses etc..), and seasonal items. There's a counter with chocolate candies, fruits dipped in chocolate, ice cream, and cake. I had a huge peanut butter cup, and it was really yummy. The cake slices are expensive, but they are so big that one slice would be enough for two or three people. There is also a small hard candy section with taffy, m&ms, runts, candy sticks and more. This is a fun store, and I'll definitely be back. I really want those big candy numbers for my children's birthday party next year. Fun place! read more

Holy cow. This is THE place for people with a sweet tooth. As Melanie L. pointed out- this is Willy Wonka's Factory for grown-ups. As you walk in, you're greeted by a dazzling array of ice cream, any and every type of sweet concoction you can think of. There's chocolate covered fruits that are 50% off after 8 pm by the way! But anyways, I didn't really try anything except the ice cream. I sampled the Night and Day ice cream and oh-my-god, the BEST chocolate chip ice cream I've ever had. I'd gladly buy the quart.. except it's like 12 dollars. My dad got the double brownie ice cream I think, and it was just so texturized and flavorful. It was worth that 4 dollars for a medium ice cream cup. I'd gladly come back to The Chocolate Bar any day.. but the parking is atrocious (we had to park across the street!) and the prices are quite high. But other than that, it's a really nice place! Every time I go to Texas I find myself going to this joint. The chocolate here is awesome and I absolutely love chocolate (dark chocolate is my favorite tho...the darker the better!) Chocolate in so many forms...so many novelty items to choose from (you can check out their menu online)! Came here with a group of friends and shared a ginormous piece of Aunt Etta's chocolate cake...so rich...so dreamy...every bite tingled your taste buds. Seriously, you definitely need to wash that cake down with some milk or water...I think we finished most of it. LOL I did buy some chocolate dipped fortune cookies to take back to California with me. I shared them with a buddy of mine and we both agreed...they were off the hook. To die for desserts. I used to go to the other chocolate bar location when I was in high school. It was my go to place for decadent desserts. Now, even after college and moving twice, every time I return home I go to the chocolate bar. With its proximity to all the other fun places in Rice Village, this has become my new go-to chocolate bar. The parking is fantastic. Not paying for parking in Rice Village has always spoiled me. Even if you can't get a spot right in front of the chocolate bar, just find one in the lot across the street. I often forget that the chocolate bar closes on the weekdays at 10 p.m. It is always has such a great crowd even at 10! They are always having to tell people to leave. You really can't go wrong with anything here. My favorite is the chocolate truffle cake. It is so decadent. I can eat a quarter and feel like I'm high on chocolate. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. This is also a great place to get gifts for friends, since there is a whole chocolate shop connected. Since everything is so rich, be prepared to share. Or you can always be like me and take some home and hide it from everyone else. read more

As a self-proclaimed dessert expert and connoisseur of cake, I declare this dessert spot the best in Houston. My room mate and I got a slice of cake and two scoops of ice cream each (I do not recommend this). The portions are ridiculously large, even for the brave souls that can normally finish a pint of ice cream on their own. We had no idea what we were in for. Every ice cream is the best. But we had candylicious junkyard and the Oreo one. Paired with "any day's a holiday" and "uncle Darryl" flavors. We could not finish, and we ALWAYS eat our cake. Cake was dryer than expected, icing was hard and thick, and the ice cream was average ice cream. My daughter and I used to visit this place all the time. It's changed throughout the years. They used to have a candy area that she absolutely loved. It was disappointing to her when they took that away. Cakes are good, but the reason why I gave Chocolate Bar 3 stars is because when you walk in to a place with the name "Chocolate Bar" you would kind of expect for it to smell like a freshly baked batch of cookies or something. And not at all like an old wet mop. Actually I can give them a little cred because the last time I went there a couple of months ago it smelled like heavily used "fabuloso" floor cleaner. Oh my! What a treat! I visited the Chocolate Bar a few days ago and did not expect all that I encountered. They had ice cream, cake, chocolate covered fruit, different types of chocolate AND sugar free chocolates, which I opted for because I was doing a no-sugar cleanse. I have been telling everyone about these sugar free chocolates, and in fact I took my brother there, before we headed up to Dallas for Wrestlemania to get some goodies (sugar free for me) for the road. I also very much enjoy their dark chocolate covered strawberries. After writing this review, I think I am going to head there again this weekend. The only issue I have with The Chocolate Bar (which is not so much their issue) is that parking can be very tricky. I went to both locations and was able to fine parking, one right in front of the store, and the other in a nearby plaza. If you're anything like me, your eyes are bigger than your stomach and you're convinced that these giant slices of cake are normal single servings. I know it's hard to believe, but it does get to be too much chocolate after awhile. If I'm feelin' for something lighter, I'll go for the ice cream which is surprisingly not as sweet as they sound. I've been a long time supporter/fan of the chocolate bar, until tonight. After absolutely no one asking for our order at the counter with the cakes, we walked up to the register. The young woman was incredibly frustrating because she not only interrupted us as we were ordering to start talking to other customers/employees, she didn't even apologize for interrupting. We also had to repeat the order 3 times. She then proceeds to alarmingly yell "Ma'am your card declined" Having worked in customer service/food service, you are taught to approach those situations in a more respectful manner, not embarrass a customer. I then explained that the magnetic strip can be finicky but if the number is manually entered then it runs through. When it did get approved, she seemed shocked. Cake, cake, cake oh my!! These cakes are ginormous and even a single slice is too much for one sitting. I got a slice of the double chocolate and they added toffee pieces on the side. A good touch I might add. I also got an iced americano which was fantastic. I wasn't expecting much in terms of espresso flavor but boy was I wrong. It had the perfect flavor and didn't need anything added. Now the ice cream. My boyfriend literally tried 15 of them and said every last one of them were the best ice cream he has ever had.
