I drove all the way to the store today only to find out all the Devil Wears Prada cookies were sold out. I asked the cashier if I could order the cookies for pickup at a later date and he thought for a few seconds and said no. He said If the cookies are not in stock they can not be ordered which makes absolutely no sense. Clearly the guy was just guessing instead of taking the time to ask but instead of arguing I just left. Of course I get home and the cookies CAN in fact be ordered from the website. I needed 20 of them which would have been well over $100 but just because the cashier was cavalier and wanted to guess instead of actually make the business money I ordered Tiff Treats Prada cookie instead. When we walked in the line was almost to the door. It went fairly quickly so that was nice. The cashier that took our order was really nice and we got our food items pretty quickly. We actually almost left without our smoothie. We ended sitting in the waiting area for a bit and when the line was nonexistent anymore our cashier looked at us confused. Then he asked if we had gotten our smoothie yet. We answered no and he went to the back to request it got made. Apparently our smoothie was forgotten. We still enjoyed the treats. The Dubai truffle was delicious and the fruity pebble cookie was great. My husband loves the brownie and he's very picky when it comes to brownies. Needed a last minute cake for a surprise birthday dinner and dessert gallery came in clutch. I had called earlier in day with several questions that were all abetted perfectly-- wish I caught the name of who assisted me. Called around 8 for pick up at 8:30, and I'm so so so glad I did!! Upon arrival there was a bit of a line, but since I called it in for pick up I was able to grab and go. The cake was delicious, & I'm grateful I was able to secure one from an establishment with such great hospitality. We came here on a weekend night after dinner and the place was packed. It has a bit of a dessert cafe vibe with seating to eat your desserts or have some coffee in house or as take away. I got the rocky road texas sheet cake and my partner got a slice of carrot cake. Both desserts were well done but nothing super special. I think for ~$12 a slice, I expected something more than like a good slice of cake. Visited your Kirby location today around 6:00. Chris was left in charge and unbothered. It was not listening to my order of 12 bars. He kept saying the computer was slow. He still got my order incorrect. I was purchasing them to give to my wonderful radiation team at MD Anderson because tomorrow is my last treatment. I wanted them boxed professionally and wrapped with a ribbon. No one knew how to do that and Chris was not even a little bit interested. Been here multiple times over the years for sweet tooth cravings + we pre-order the cakes for birthdays at the office, and everyone's always a happy camper! I stick mostly to their many flavors of cakes, but their cookies, bars, and other treats are worth a try. There are usually seasonal decorated iced cookies for holidays, events like cancer awareness or LGBTQ, etc too. Cakes slices are definitely on the sweeter and pricier side, but they are big and delicious! The lemon blueberry, red velvet, and Jennifer's chocolate birthday cake slices are my go-to's. The slab flavors are usually on the dry side for some reason. Friends love their tres leches. It's clean and cute inside with lots of seating but it can get crowded during peak hours. Parking in the lot can also get a little crazy then, but there are a few designated spots right in the front. Service has always been friendly, and they have a rewards program too. Hands down, this is the best bakery in Houston for layer cakes! I've tried them all, and nothing beats a slice from Dessert Gallery. The German Chocolate cake might be my favorite--it's dense and moist and the perfect balance of milk chocolate and coconut. The carrot cake is a close runner up--also dense and moist but with a perfect cream cheese frosting. I also love all the chocolate slices and the French Vanilla slice. I don't know how I'm going to maintain my weight now that I live in Houston. I ventured out because I wanted something sweet to eat, and Dessert Gallery came up as a local favorite. They were voted to have the #1 coconut dessert in Houston, so as a connoisseur of ALL THINGS (!!!) coconut, I had to see for myself. WELL, not only was the Coconut Cream Cake SO, SO, AMAZING, the Tres Leches Cake ALMOST stole the show. And the slices were so large and generous. OMG. Instructions were given to me to promptly stop in here and pick up a cake for a surprise birthday party. I recall navigating through the pouring rain to get here and somehow finding a parking spot directly in front of the establishment. Must be the sugar gods/goddesses being somewhat gentle. I expected this to be a simple bakery with a display doing phone/internet orders for pick up. I was pleasantly surprised seeing there is seating here and they serve desserts to order that includes slices of pie, cookies, cupcakes, ice cream, frozen dessert drinks, coffee, and coffee drinks. And of course cake slices. The cakes and pies are pricy ranging from $9.95 - $12.95 per slice (WHAT!?). While this can be a turnoff, the slices/slabs displayed in the display case do look so tempting. I almost decided to order one for myself but reminded myself that I had a job to do and there would be plenty of cake for me at the birthday party. Now for the cake itself, it was a giant sheet cake of lemon blueberry which was a favorite of the party hosts. It suddenly hit me that my girlfriend got me the exact same cake in 9 inch format for my birthday. And how much I loved it! Now I see where my gf and her family get their desserts! The cake fed about 20 of us at the party with leftovers and everyone devoured it. That blueberry frosting mixed with the lemon fluffiness of the cake was straight up what cake is made of. I was going to a birthday party in Houston and I was in charge of getting the cake. I read lots of great bakery reviews (shout out to Cynthia J for her comprehensive analysis of so many great bakeries) so when my friend's husband suggested a cake from here, I knew it would be good and we were not disappointed. We ordered a Toffee-licious cake and it was amazing. The cake itself was excellent and I could have just eaten that without the frosting. The frosting was thick and sweet, so much so that I almost couldn't eat it all but I did. Everyone loved it. The pickup experience was great and the staff was super friendly. So many wonderful sweet treats here. My most recent dessert order was a Fudge Cheesecake, which was so delicious, rich and so well-made. I generally don't even like cheesecake too much, unless it's a chocolate type or the raspberry/cranberry seasonal one from Giacomo's nearby, which are really exceptions. I can certainly appreciate an authentic NY cheesecake for some bites here n there when someone orders it though. A good NY style has more sweetness, eggs in batter, butter and softer texture with a good graham crust than the usual plainer, heavier, sourish ones. Only Dessert Gallery, Santa Barbara Cafe in Pearland, Kenny & Ziggy's, Ruth's Chris, possibly Pappas Bros too but hadn't had their's make it true NY style down here from my experience. However, that scrumptious dark fudge really made this slice super exciting to me. The thickness, cocoa bitterness and richness vibes perfectly contrasted the soft, creamy and sweet cheesecake piece. The fudge has a bit of a nutty, buttery, melted brownie taste to it. Very friendly, welcoming and efficient service on the past several visits. read more

One star, specifically for the store manager. I believe his name was Mark. This is my first ever review. I don't do these and I've never been one to generate retail drama. But since there's no one else to report this to, I'll put it here. We've been coming to Dessert Gallery for at least a decade and have spent thousands of dollars here. We won't be coming back. On our last (and final) visit, we arrived at our scheduled time to pick up a $100 birthday cake. Mark, the store manager, quickly and passively let us know they didn't have the cake, and that he'd both called and emailed me that morning. I checked my phone. No missed calls. Checked my email. No emails. I calmly asked what number he'd called, at which point he became aggressive and rude. He wouldn't tell me what number he called and dismissed our frustration, just kept repeating that he had called. If I'd had a missed call or email, it would have been totally understandable. Things happen. No problem. Except there were no calls and we drove here specifically to pick up this cake on my wife's birthday and were met with nothing but hostility and zero compassion. Interesting, for a dessert place. Mark did eventually make a weak attempt to offer a different cake, but it was unenthusiastic, and by that point my wife and 6 year old daughter were already beyond upset and ready to leave. Sounds silly for a cake, but it was a big part of the day, which was very much harmed by one unhelpful, rude individual. The whole situation could have been handled so much better. The rest of the team seemed helpful and reasonable. I did finally get that email a few minutes after we walked out of the store. Ps. I verified my phone # on the order was correct! One last thing, while we were there trying to work this out, another customer walked in and got the same exact story, and also had no missed calls. As a business owner, patterns that quick to emerge are a clear issue. read more

It will always warm my heart to see businesses who still pride themselves on customer satisfaction. Ran it back to dessert gallery for round 2 and had undoubtedly a 5/5 experience. The first major change was the portion sizes of the pieces of cake on the second visit. Definitely felt more well worth the pay than the initial visit. I tried new flavors and every single piece of cake was moist and delicious. Though initially skeptical I did try the butter pecan cake (again) and I was so happy I did because it was indeed moist this second go around. Obsessed with 2 things here: Monkey bars- it's like crack. Be warned they are super sweet so sometimes a half may suffice but if you're feeling greedy a whole may not be enough. Love the Oreo cookie crust on these. Decadence to the max. Big O- best combo of chocolate cake, milk chocolate mousse and white chocolate mousse topped with a chocolate ganache. The Dessert Factory is a gem! The establishment was absolutely pristine--clean, bright, and inviting. Service was quick, professional, and friendly. And the desserts? Incredible. Everything looked just as good as it tasted. We tried the red velvet cake, red velvet cookie, cookies & cream ice cream, chocolate chip cookie and rocky road brownie--each one was delicious. I will preface by saying that I'm not much of a sweets person however every now and then I like to try a dessert. The toffee cake slice was moist and the flavor was alright. The icing was a bit too much. The location is pretty busy and cramped and when there's a flux of customers, they'll yell out people's orders very loudly.
