Most of my family can go see her weekly, call every other day, or involve her out of the facility on occasion. We always see Marjorie Doyle in everyday mode with often no personnel aware we are there. Staff are always kind and even loving toward the residents. I have been so impressed to date. I told them that my mother had dementia and that I am trying to have her evaluated. I have POA and am handling all her appointments, medical and other. Instead of calling me about the appointment, they called my mother who knew nothing of course. They didn't even call me. My mother said she didn't know anything and to cancel the appointment which they did without even contacting me or her doctor. When I called them to say they should have called me before cancelling the appointment, they were very uncaring and rude. They never apologized and said that they made a mistake, and it was my fault that this happened. Dealing with this situation is a very sensitive issue for the family and should be handled with the utmost of care and respect of which they have absolutely none!

But Ivy Lodge over-all feels more like a home than a facility, and by the time someone moves to the dementia floor, they need constant care, comfort, reassurance, supervision, and careful monitoring. These, they have. The people there cared about her, they did their best for her, and they continued to see her as an individual, not a patient. She is gone now, and for her sake I am relieved. But I believe she had good care, she was kept as comfortable as she could possibly be, and the staff sincerely felt a sense of personal loss when she was gone. They are, in my book, heroes.

At the end, as we waited for the hospice nurse to arrive, two staff members came in and invited by nieces and me us to stay and have dinner in their private dining room. We didn't take them up on it but the gesture was just more instance of the love we felt while my sister was under their care. They are supposed to clean the apartments once a week as part of the package. My father is legally blind and cleaning is an issue. The last few times I have been in nobody has come to clean in a long time. Little to no activities. I would not recommend this place whatsoever. I am in the process of looking for a new place for my father.
