Pretty basic set up. Had the World Famous Hot Dog Co and a Mexican Coke. Dog was split and nicely seared, tucked with crisp bacon in a perfectly warmed sausage roll. Topped with sautéed onion, cherry peppers and spicy mayo. So good. Will be back fo sho!

Half rack of ribs. Plenty of meat.. some crunch, some tenderness & great bbq sauce. 5 stars!

This is the kind of place i love where the owner is out there filling the air with that smoky aroma of goodness. Tyranny, the owner has a bbq grill set up outside just grilling the meats! Quality & delicious food made with love. Very friendly too. I stopped, dropped and ate a half rack of juicy charred ribs along with some potato salad. My tastebuds were busting with flavor- so scrumptious! Yummmmm mmmm mmm Loved the write up about Tyranny. Much respect to you! Great little spot. I love sitting in their window as people walk by showing off my food! Thank you Tyranny & Clarissa for my meal today. I look forward to trying something else off your menu next time I work in Oakland. ~Priscilla from Sacramento

CHICKEN LOADED FRIES / JERK SAUCE and garlic pepper wings 2/10
    Trenise L.

Tried to come to this place several times, but they were always closed. Finally caught them while they were open. 2/10 fries was EXTRA oily and chicken very chewy and lacking flavor. 2/10 wings again way too oily and too much chunky garlic pieces. Wings was huge like on steroids. Needs a lot of improvement!

Holy indulgence! My workplace ordered these for our lunch. I chose the mac n cheese hot link and strawberry lemonade. The hot link is huge, loaded with crispy baked mac n cheese. This meal looked like it was made for gaining weight. If you're on a diet, one bite will throw you off track. Which means everything tasted great. Instead of a regular hot dog I chose the beef hot link. It's got a kick to it, but it is mild. The paper it came on started getting soggy and with all the cutting (tried to be less messy by using fork and knife) and I ended up eating some of the paper on accident. So definitely remove the paper as soon as possible as to avoid soggy paper sticking to your hotdog. Strawberry lemonade is huge. It doesn't taste like fresh lemonade/fresh strawberries. Although I'd skip the drink next time, I'd recommend the mac n cheese hot link as long as you know what you're getting into..aka indulgent, over the top loaded hotdog!

Winky Dinky Dogs opened in Burma Bears' vacated space. Interior refurbished with mirrors, some Winky Dinky signage, a few stools, & a table. Ordered after asking a few questions re: menu. After ordering, "owner" asked me if i was a cook or a food critic. Told me i'm not a cook so i must be a food critic. Offers: vegan dogs initially, recently added soul food. All items labeled Winky Dinky ....no pricing. Food arrived 10ish minutes. Eats: oxtail (29.75) 3ish pieces over steamed long grain rice, with light sauce. Tabasco sauce. -oxtail "baked & basted" for hours. Also cooked in crockpot. Green peppers, sliced white onions too. Oxtail tastes semi-tender, parts near bone dryish. No flavas.. *told owner oxtail dryish, gravy like water. Response: no complaints. Guess he doesn't read reviews. -gravy looked/tasted ala thin water. *was coughing violently at one point, dryish food causes this. Owner gave me a bottle of san pellegrino water. Cough went away. 3.5 stars Dinky=small, insignificant. Foods named appriopiately **leftovers ate with housemade? Tabasco sauce. Dryness/blandness disappears

    Flavors of the day, bruh!

Have you ever seen a movie called Hollywood Shuffle? I have. In fact, it is one of my all time favorite movies. One could say that it features Winky Dinky Dog. It is a documentary-comedy. I believed that Winky Dinky Dog was fictional until last year when I saw their cart at LakeFest. WinkyDinkyDog is real, y'all! They exist! You can go in person or order delivery. Did you know you can get a not-dog (vegan hotdog) from Winky Dinky Dog? I am so obsessed already. Plus, they have un-gentrified banana pudding! It was tasty. Get some! I really enjoyed their foood and friendly service. I plan to return.

Now, I read that this iconic Oakland Top Dog location is closing soon, due to a dispute with the new landlord. I figured I better get over her quick before it closes for good. https://www.sfgate.com/food/article/berkeley-top-dog-closing-oakland-location-21102867.php My Oakland guide, who grew up as a child in this Lakeshore Area, tells me of the old days here right at this location where the Top Dog is. It used to be a restaurant called Edy's and they had the best lime freezes. His mother used to take him here in the 1960's! I can't believe that was over 60 years ago! This Top Dog has been here for a long time, around 21 years. The little alley way that has an entrance to the Top Dog, now goes to Trader Joes, but he tells me that used to be a Lucky grocery store before. The parking structure wasn't there either. My guide is a long time Top Dog fan, from the original Berkeley locations. He even made friends with the girl cook at the north Berkeley location and ended up getting free hot dogs! He says the prices sure have gone up since the 70's ... a Kielbasa was just 70 cents! That's $4.50 now! This location runs like most locations, you just tell the cook what you want and the sausages are already cooked or cooking on the flat top grill. The buns get heated there too and then you have condiments to add. I've been a fan of Top Dog, more the Berkeley location, but it's sad to see this location close. Soon, it will just be the original Berkeley location open at the south campus.

I wasn't looking for a Coney dog when I decided to stop by at Kasper's with a 'K'. I'm surprised I had never been here because it's in Oakland's familiar Dimond district. Kasper's is housed in a cool, mid-century vintage standalone building and has a parking lot like most fast food eateries back sometime in the last century. There were two people behind the counter, both obvious veterans who split responsibilities between dressing the dogs and handling the register. The menu was pretty straightforward: nine different dogs and a chili bowl plus soft drinks and fizzes. I was hoping they might have a Chicago dog but no such luck. Instead I went for the $7.39 Quarter Pound Dog with Chili ($1.29), Cheese ($0.99), and Diced Onion (free). So kinda like a Coney but not quite. Still quite tasty and filling as it was an all-beef dog with a massive amount of chili (photo: https://yelp.to/nG4KKo0L6Y). I dared to get a $1.69 bag of chips and a $3.05 Diet Coke, but in hindsight, I should've gone for an Orange Fizz to evoke my Orange Julius-filled childhood. I used to love those. A lot more room to sit and finish the food, is available on the second floor. The hanging artwork pieces on the walls are distinctly striking. The menu is stacked with standard bar fare, with pizza, hotdogs, fries, etc. A sizable beer selection that seems to draw in the nightly usuals. The service was not majorly terrible. Some staff members looked rather bored. I didn't order alcohol. I just wanted to eat. I chose a chili cheese dog, which included Garlic fries. I paid $14, after tip. The large portions are appreciated. Really wished it all had been yummy. I can't say that it was tasty, and memorably delicious. It looked more appetizing than it actually tasted. Which is not great. The chili was not flavorful, and it was almost cold. Not warmed up first, just slapped on top of the dog. Which made for a strange eating experience. Normally the chili is the hottest part of that particular item. A toasted bun (which is preferable) may have made a difference. The dog itself wasn't terrible. The fries were attractive. I'm into the shoestring potatoes. I was not wowed when it came to the taste. Not a huge deal. I probably should've ordered a slice of pizza, which they may be kind of popularly known for. When I am near, in downtown Oakland, I can do a round 2. They stay open really late. I was eyeballing the garlic knots, with a side of marinara. That probably would've been a hit with me or better yet the Mozz sticks. I love those.
