This place is a different type of place. It is part restaurant, part bar, part gambling joint. With it being a gambling joint it is 21 and up. We just went there for the restaurant part because most of the other places were packed because of the teachers protest that day. It was not very busy in there. At least for food. They have typical pub food, burgers, fries, tacos.... The food was "OK", my food was cool by the time it got to me, but it did take a while for us to get our food. This was my first time here, after passing it many times. I was so unimpressed. The bar or gambling part may be better, but I was not able to experience those, so my review is only for the food. They have a secret squirrel VIP room to the left behind some glass doors when you enter. Not sure of the requirements to get in, just know that I did not meet them, whatever they were. If you don't mind eating your food while having a parade of characters passing you to get in line and place their bet then this place is for you.

From Pittsburgh, PA, where the kind of betting that happens here isn't legal. I walked in not knowing what to expect, and was met with enthusiasm and kindness by the staff. Wasn't busy, and the kitchen had just closed, but I was only here while I waited 45 minutes for a deep dish pizza. Bar is nice, casino-y (yes, I just made that up.) and spacious.

Winners Circle isnt exactly somewhere you'd go for date night. As the other reviews say, their beer is one of the cheapest downtown, but NOT anymore!!They raised the prices! Tall domestics used to be $3 and now they're $5. Totally understand raising them with COVID and losing business, but personally I only went here for the cheap beer, like a lot of other people. I don't think this place is very clean (smells like smoke too), and usually I get harassed by other older men in here (most of their clientele). Absolutely love the bartenders and servers here, theyre always great. The food is good if you want something greasy. Unfortunately probably won't be visiting much anymore. Maybe check it out once and see for yourself?

I love this place. Not to many times can you find an OTB that is clean and serves really good food. It was packed and the manager for sure had this place under staffed. Not sure what that older gentleman was doing behind the bar other than nothing. But the girls worked hard and fought through it. Good spot. I had the wings which are solid looking forward to more food the next time I come back.

So much fun! I just wish I knew how to bet on the horses!!! Cool place! Watched the Super Bowl at the bar..... It changes colors! :-)

Do they sell Kentucky derby program the day before?

Not exactly--They will have the form that evening but not the official Derby program. I find the official program at downtown hotels the night before. Some liquor stores carry them such as Evergreen Liquors in Middletown.

They had the door open, which was letting in the fresh almost-spring air.) Drinks are pretty much all they have at Snug, to be honest. Don't visit thinking you're going to find a meal, because they don't have a lot of food beyond locally made hand pies and empanadas, a grazing board, and something called Snug Nuts. (Which brings to mind certain ... images.) I didn't get any food, just a Road & Coke, which is a whiskey with a Coke and lime, similar to a Cuba libre, although a Cuba uses rum. It was delicious, but a little light on the booze. It was only $5 and change, though, so it's kind of like what do you expect, really. It was a nice drink to sip slowly while I sat in the small, cozy bar. Speaking of bar aesthetics: Snug lives up to its name. It's tiny and dark but inviting. It feels like stepping into a hug. A hug that can also provide you with copious amounts of Irish whiskey, which sounds like the best kind of hug, to me.

I would've rather grown a chicken, killed it for some wings, made a hat with its feathers and made sensory toys with its eyes The buns were probably the best part. The lettuce was cut smaller than you could ever imagine, the chicken had a good amount but tasted like it was drowned in Franks Red Hot Sauce. The tomato was a tomato This isn't all the restaurant though. The other times I visited here were AMAZING The times I sat in the big room were good because, there were TVs to save my boredom, the built in chargers were neat, and the food was just better! The AVG is definitely a neighborhood tavern. It's cozy and very laid back with high top tables. I ordered an Old Fashioned but mixed drinks weren't really on offer unless it was something like rum and coke. I had a beer. It was fine. We were there for about an hour and a half. I would definitely return. The vibes were slow paced. We moved on to The Checkered Flag. Wowza!! It was a Thursday night but the place was hopping. We were joined by another friend with plans to have a bite to eat. The menu is unbelievable. So much to choose from. We were kind of boring because 3 of us chose the same thing and the other two chose the same item. Two had the pork tenderloin. Both agreed it was excellent. Three of us had the BBQ Pork spud. It's a giant baked potato with butter, a good spread of pimento cheese, moist pulled pork, BBQ sauce, coleslaw and green onions. It was fantastic. Normally the pork can become a bit dry. This was not the case. Cooked perfectly. I was able to order the Old Fashioned. They apologized because they were out of oranges but I was fine. It was a very good drink. There happened to be two musicians performing. I was quite impressed. This tavern was very very impressive. We all agreed to return Our final stop was Herrmann. It's a small brewery tucked away off a quiet street. We were offered several tastings of the beers on offer. We were all able to find something to our liking. I had a porter. There are tables for four spread around the seating area. It's comfortable and definitely a neighborhood haunt. All three places were definitely neighborhood taverns. The Checkered Flag was hands down the best! Indy has so much to offer!
