Just when I think I've visited all of the dive bars in Broad Ripple, I learn that there's one called Connor's Pub that I didn't know existed. I don't know why this pub flew under my radar, because apparently, it's been around since 1979. It's older than me! (By a hair, if we're keeping it 100.) Connor's Pub ain't nothing fancy, but it doesn't need to be. This is a neighborhood bar where you come to get a beer or a shot or a cocktail, and then just chill. They have half a dozen beers on tap, or if you're into mixed drinks, they have all the stuff to make you a little something. No frills, this place. The bar is dark and cool, a space to just hole up and relax. I visited to get a cheeky drink, as I sometimes do. I got a Rhinegeist Truth IPA, which they had on tap and is somewhat local, because it comes from Cincinnati. It was nice and refreshing, and the bartender did her best to make sure that the beer was presented with not a lot of head. They were out of my first choice, the 3 Floyds Zombie Dust, but I enjoyed my pint of my second-choice beer. They do have a food menu here, but I get the feeling that you don't come to Connor's for food. Because when I asked to see the menu, the bartender looked like I asked for a W-9 form. OK, I get it! This is a place for drinks, and as such, it totally serves its purpose. read more

Connor's is that small local bar where people always return and the staff knows your name. I dropped in after the game and it wasn't too packed. I ordered an expresso martini which was good, but not a typical order at the bar. It was tasty. I also ordered wings and fries. The wings were seasoned well and super crispy. Perfect for soaking up liquor! They had college games and hockey on. There is electronic juke box, so eventually people started playing music. I'll definitely return. read more

First of all, when my group of nine arrived, there was no greeting. I may be old-fashioned, but a simple acknowledgment at the door would have gone a long way and likely earned an extra star from me. Secondly, after we were seated, we waited about 15 minutes before realizing that table service wasn't offered. It would have been helpful if this had been communicated upfront. Third, when we went to the bar to order wings and fries, the wait time was roughly 50 minutes. My food was then handed to the wrong customer, and I had to retrieve it myself. Fortunately, the customer--who appeared to be very intoxicated--recognized the mistake and sat back down. When I finally received my order, it was packaged in a sealed foam container with no ventilation, which caused the steam from the wings to make the fries soggy. Overall, I won't be returning. The lack of basic customer service and attention to proper food handling made this a very disappointing experience. read more

I realized I love this bar at a certain time of the day/night... the vibe, the food, the music, everything. But my recent visit left a bad taste in my mouth. I stopped in to grab some food and the bartender (older guy with a hunch back) didn't even acknowledge me. He helped everyone else at the bar, made a few drinks, leaned in on his conversations, and completely ignored that I was standing there. After about 15 minutes of waiting and watching him make two more drinks, I decided not to let it upset me further... so I left. The energy in there just felt off. Typically, I'd reach out to the owner directly because I know this isn't how he runs his business. I've been coming here for a while, and the vibe is usually cool and laid-back -- R&B playing, great food, and the owner and security always make you feel welcome (unless provoked). Overall, I still love this place, but that morning bartender is not it. He definitely made ME feel like I wasn't wanted there. My two-star rating isn't for the bar itself -- it's for the service and how it made me feel. read more

Connor's is a cultural experience and a rite of passage for Broad Ripple Village patrons! Really cold beer, not to mention PBR on tap, and quick, refreshing drinks, the back alley location and back open air deck have seen many of luminaries come and go! (Rumor is that a young Rookie Colts Punter from West Virginia might have been over-served here before his famous Canal dive! But I wasn't there, at least That time!). Typical bar food is surprisingly good and served late, so it serves well to offset excess alcohol consumed early in the evening. Many a brain cell has been willing pruned at Connor's. Probably as authentic a BRV legacy as the Alley Cat! Definitely incredible people watching as typical nights wear out to early morning! This bar is tucked away from the main Broad Ripple strip but is definitely a local favorite bar. They have many tvs for sports and the drink specials are great. I personally have never eaten here however I've heard many great suggestions and raves about the cheese balls and bosco sticks. Connor's is a must for Saint Patrick's Day, they have a huge tent and the parking lot if fenced off, it's a load of fun! They were cash only but now they accept credit cards so that's a plus for those who don't usually carry cash. read more

No frills, cheap booze, live music and a patio in Broad Ripple. I don't know why it took me so long to wander into Connor's, but there's no turning back now! I've had the pleasure of getting there just before a band was setting up and danced the night away. The atmosphere is fun and lively with a little kook, just the way I like it. You really never know who you'll run into here. Its generally full of diverse characters from all walks of life. I usually run into at least one or two people I know. Who can blame them when you can get some of the best pub grub in the ripple? Don't sleep on their pizza, its worth the trip alone! Their staff is friendly and attentive, pouring up their $3 drafts on Thursdays and other drink specials through the week and a pretty sweet stock of Irish beers and whiskey. Their website says they're open 364 days a year, but I'm not sure which day they're closed and don't want to be the unlucky one to get there and find out! read more

I've been coming to Connor's since I moved to Broad Ripple in 2006, and it remains my favorite Indy dive. Reading the other reviews makes me giggle because people gripe about the various population subsets that make Connor's unique: the hippies, the older working-class guys, the potential vagrants, the d-bags, the extremely drunk girls...all commingling in one seriously decorated Irish dive. Drinks are cheap and stiff, beer selection is pretty legit. Bouncers are huge and there's often a cop. The ceilings are really high, the fans spin fast enough to create a wind, and the front and back doors are propped open in warm weather...so it's surprisingly un-smoky. Other patrons toe the line between friendly and creepy in their willingness to talk to you/comment on your conversation/drink/clothing/activity. The 5th star was lost because in my 10+ years of legal drinking, Connor's remains the only bar in which I have seen both a gun and a drug deal...although neither were hostile. And the pizza...well, it's there. I've seen people come in for takeout and thought "WTF?" every time. I myself prefer the stuffed breadsticks over the cheap pizza. And I love the tiny fried un-cheese balls. Oh...cornhole & picnic tables on the patio. I can't forget the crowning glory of Connor's...the BATHROOM GRAFFITI! Long-term discussion of politics, religion, and of course, sex, along with some pretty spectacular drunken artwork cover the plywood stall walls. I really wanted to like it here. We arrived hungry Thursday night about 10:30pm and was hoping for breaded fried mushrooms. Liked the fact that it's a hideaway, the eclectic mix of people and the band. Our beer was delivered in a timely fashion along with the menu and that was it for service. Waited and waited, passed by and passed over. Lifted the menu to try to get the bartender's attention. Didn't work. As we finished our warm beer and were readying ourselves to leave, the menu was picked up. Sigh.Tip was given to the musicians. Perhaps the person we saw leaving through the employee door as we were arriving was the owner/manager. Now we're looking for another place that serves food this late. Found it. I am also left wondering why this establishment needs both a security guard and a bouncer. There goes the vibe. read more

There is no better Dive Bar on the planet, period. I've been coming here religiously since my Junior year of college at nearby Butler University. This bar works all season long, and caters to a diverse crowd ranging from 21 years old to 81. If I'm still around at 81, you better believe that anytime I return to a Butler Homecoming, The Indianapolis 500, or the next big wedding, I will always spend an evening in Broadripple, and close the night out here at Connor's. I've been here a thousand times. The staff is friendly, they work their tails off, and attract fun patrons from every walk of life to always give you a memorable experience. As many times as I've been here, no two visits have ever been the same. The drink specials are great, and the music is at your fingertips with a Jukebox to play everything that you currently have in your iPod. On my most recent visit, I was even treated with an unexpected performance from a live band. As small as this place is, they made it work. To those of you who prefer to end your evening with a late night snack, if you're ever in Broadripple, let me recommend this to you. Take a pass on the slice or the burrito as big as your head around the corner, and come in here and order a basket of cheeseballs. I could eat these things everyday and they go perfectly with your favorite import. But on the other hand I wouldn't make it to 81 with that being a staple in my diet. The undisputed heavyweight championship of Dive Bars goes to Connor's, and it's not even close. Can't wait to make the trip sout get back here for the 500. No matter how old I get, I love this place. I have been going to Conner's regularly since I was 22. It is my starter bar. All I need is $20 (they do not take CCs) and I'm buzzin' biggie style before hitting up the clubs in the Rip. Conner's bartenders have been the same guys for at least the six years I've been going there and probably longer! It is where I discovered Vodka Red Bull, the devil of drinks and for less than $6.00 I get a 12 ounce beverage. It does NOT get better than that. They make a MEAN, PUT HAIR ON YOUR ASS drink. I only need two and I'm good to go. Not only that, but the bouncers are cool, laid back and the regulars are welcoming and fabulous. It is a bar for all ages, great for early drinking, Saturday sports, or playing with the juke box. I've seen people playing cards in here and participating in other fun drinking games. It is a laid back, chill environment. Annnnnd.....the pizza. Get it. The cheese cubes. Scarf them. But be careful...they come out so hot, it will burn three layers of skin off the top of your mouth. A cool place for live music, great pub food (tenderloin) and a chill crowd. Regular drink specials $3 beers and a nice schedule of live acts. Not an overly decorated place but that kind of thing is not necessary, smoke patio out back, decent restrooms. Service here is quick and kind, every server or bartender I spoke with was great. Great drink specials..if you can stand the hippies. Conner's is cool, we used to go there once a week. But they have these three particular groups of vehement crazy patrons that are hard to stomach. One crowd is the old men that are always drunk and never quiet, they sit in the corner and shout and curse and go wild. They also have quite the following of hippies...which...i mean...they're hippies...'nuff said. Then the staff is mostly a bunch of no-neck meat sticks that grunt at you and scratch themselves. Outside if the outlandish crowd the place is awesome, if for no other reason then the most amazing tchotchke's ever (tchotchke's are the trinkets and junk that hang on the walls of restaurants like Applebee's and Fridays...bet you didn't know they had a name, now, go watch Office Space and laugh at the fact that the restaurant is called Tchotchke's). The drink specials rock and I always love a bar that has Pub Cans, because they are hard to find and Murphy's Red is the best beer you can drink in a can. read more

This is a bar you should go to if you want to chill and aren't in a hurry to get somewhere else. The bartenders don't check on you often enough, even when it's not very busy. If you want to eat something here, I would recommend the Bosco sticks! They are pretty yummy, as is the cheese they give you to dip them in. The marinara they serve however is cold, and I didn't really enjoy it much. But let's be real, wouldn't we all rather dip them in ranch over any other dipping sauce? Haha! read more

This is what I like to call a dive bar. It's hidden in the broadripple area. It's a cool little spot to go chill and have drinks with friends. Granted I didn't get to do that yet, but from what I saw I love it. The owner John is awesome! I love the fact that the employees know majority of the people who come in. It makes the environment friendly and both customers and employees are having a great time. Plus to this place...if you don't want to be around all the people on the main strip of bripp, this place is perfect. They have a cop who sits outside of the place patrolling, it makes you feel safe especially with the crime rate increasing in the area. read more

Dive bars have their own flavors. This one's comes via its famous cheese balls--smaller-than-tater tot fried balls of Velveeta cheese, served with cocktail sauce for dipping. Their crunch factor is addicting. The clientele here can be interesting sometimes; rotating sale pints can attract the talkative homeless guy. The staff is very friendly. They have a full bar. The prices are good and they have outdoor seating. I ordered a rum and coke and it tasted like mostly rum with a splash of coke so they do not skimp o the alcohol. When we went the customers were friendly to each other which helps add to a jovial atmosphere. I would say this place doesn't feel the cleanest but I just think that is because of the old wood furniture and the graffiti in the bathrooms. read more

Connor's Pub: a Broad Ripple legend in it's own rite. Be sure to bring CASH because cards aren't accepted here and the ATM fee's can add up on a long night. The bathroom walls are reminiscent of dive bars from movie scenes, with graffiti sprawled in almost every imaginable place. It's not located on the strip so you may have to use maps or advice from locals trying to find it for the first time, but you'll be sure to return for the cheap drinks and casual environment. The customers are as varied as they come in Broad Ripple and you're sure to hear an interesting story or two. Definitely worth a visit for anyone who is a fan of dive bars. read more

Used to come here often until one of the bouncers (long wavy red hair) mistook my fiance for someone else and accused him of "passing drugs" when he was actually caught in the middle of a fight that broke out in a crowded spot. I understand that it gets hectic at close but when we were waiting for our ride on the back step, the same bouncer bashed my fiance in the head with the fence door several times while yelling at him, which was ridiculous. I moved to Indy when I was 24 and, thus, kind of above the Broad Ripple age. Plus I was dirt poor, so there's that. Anyhoo, I went to Conner's the other night after a practice with the Indy Hurling Club. A total dive, yes, but a welcoming dive. It was so loud I had to ask the person sitting next to me to repeat herself multiple times, but it was. PBR seemed to be the drink of choice, although we classed it up with Coors Light. I didn't feel out of place, being in my *cough*almost late 30s*cough*. The pizza was delish too. I wouldn't make a special trip here (especially because it was so damn hard to find) but it was fun with friends. Also, another friend swears the naked picture of some redheadeded duded looks like her dad. Awesome/weird/awesome. read more
