This is a beautiful facility with great classes and activities for seniors. I love the variety of machines too.

My family and I have been Y members for nearly 3 years until just a couple of weeks ago when we moved away. I unequivocally and 100% recommend the Y for a family. Staff are all generally all helpful. Front door staff try to be quick. The service desk can be quick, but lines do occur since there is generally only one or two people working it. The KidZone staff are the true gems of the Y. My daughter loved all the caring folks who watched her daily for a couple of hours while we worked out. I cannot tell you how great they are. I never used the training staff, but they were helpful when needed. The one staff member that completely sucks is the skinnier old guy with the grey beard. That guy has the ick and tried to shoo me away from equipment when I was working out on it just because he wanted it. I politely let him know the equipment would be available when I finished. The Y activities for our daughter were really great. During our time at the Y we participated in an Easter Event, Daddy Daughter Dance, Wellness Days, Christmas events, and more. This really helped us feel part of the community and I made some great adult friends. The programming staff are stars at their job. The indoor pool is amazing. My daughter went from zero swimming skills to being completely able to swim alone at 3.5 years of age. The program pool is heated and made teaching our daughter how to swim a great experience. Parking can be difficult at the Y if you come in the afternoon. Saturday mornings were also another time you would want to avoid the parking situation. It would be great if they paved the other lot and added lines. It was the Wild West down there. Additionally, folks will dent your car and not care or leave a note. Parking here with a nice car is a big issue especially if you want to avoid dozens of small dents and chips. The actual weight lifting area is perfectly fine. If you are someone that likes classic weight lifting gyms, this really isn't the place to join. You can get a great workout in, but I found folks lacked gym etiquette knowledge. Same for the running track upstairs where there are running directions for each day. The amount of folks that cannot read directions is a bit appalling. Additional areas that are great are the full sized basketball court with 6 hoops and the playground outside. I found time to play basketball every week. The one downside is no basketball league for adults and unequal time given to basketball compared to other sports. I would have loved a volleyball drop in too. Considering how popular volleyball is in the area, it would have made sense to add. Overall, the Y is amazing. There are many great staff members and many great members that made coming here a wonderful experience. read more

This is a very big location and I had a great experience while working out there. during my experience, the equipment was a very new looking and clean. They had appropriate sanitation stations within reach and I had a wonderful time doing the yoga class. I would definitely recommend this business to anyone looking to work out or just use all the resources that they have. read more

I was in town for a few days on business. Never miss a workout, right? This was the closest real gym to the hotel, the location is super convenient and the view of the bay couldn't be better. The entrance is a bit strange for newbies as it's not on the front of the building, but around the side. The guy at the front desk was friendly and told me you get 2 free visits as a guest, then it's something like $20/day for a day pass. For that, you get full use of the facilities. The locker room was clean, although a few locker doors were off the hinges. I was only interested in the weight room so I didn't swim or play basketball. The weight area felt a bit cramped as it's a circle. So the dumbbell area has benches that are closer together at the head than the feet. There's a lot of equipment, but it doesn't take many people to make you feel a little claustrophobic. Go up the stairs and there's a 3-lane track with great views of the water. I did a mile after each weight session and it's better than hopping on a treadmill. It's not a meathead gym (which I prefer), but it's nice and clean with friendly members. read more

I'm there now just because of the pools .... other than that the resistance machines and cardio equipment are old and in terrible shape and not very many machines compared to other gyms ...... so I have to keep my other gym membership to have the quality and number of machines to get my desired workout. Still 5 stars, I really need to post about the Baptist Y too since most of my workouts are don't there, off Sunn near FSCJ. Now when I'm at Winston it's usually for the sauna to relax these old muscles. There's never been more than 4 people inside and that's including me. I'll sometimes add a River walk since I'm there, not today though. read more

Maybe I'm a little bias, but I think this may be the best YMCA in Jacksonville, and I'm a member of the North Jacksonville Baptist YMCA. One thing that makes Winston YMCA so great is the outstanding view. I love the fact that you have a view of the river while you're getting your work out in. I have to mention the classes are excellent. I love the yoga classes offered. A great selection. The pool area is also really nice and the sauna is a great addition to detox. Honestly, if I lived closer I'd probably be a full time member here. I've been a Y member since 2013 I believe. I just love the inclusiveness of the Y. It's a place that is inclusive to anyone that want to make a change in a healthy direction. They value their members and are constantly making programs for healthy living. I am a huge fan of the Y and will continue to be a member for as long as I can. read more

This location and Brooks both have indoor pools. Currently, there's an online reservation system in place to reserve time for lap swims (30 or 45 minutes), just remember to bring your own towel (no towel service). If you decide to hop on any of the cardio machines at the Winston Y, you'll enjoy amazing views of the St. John River as you burn off some calories. One major plus for us is that Winston Y also offers later Sunday afternoon hours whereas other locations more convenient to us close by 1pm on Saturday & Sunday. Getting kids up and to the gym early on the weekend is challenging enough so the Sunday afternoon hours are greatly appreciated! COVID details: Temp checks as you enter, wipes and reminders everywhere to wipe down equipment before & after use. Masks are required in the lobby, waiting for classes to begin, locker rooms & optional when using cardio & strength machines as long as social distancing is maintained. Staff is generally courteous and professional, Main 2nd floor gym area is staffed by "watchers" with little information or authority. Machines are minimally maintained, cracked seats " bacteria"(?) and worn parts. Most puzzling is that elliptical and other cardio machines have live TV but Fox is the only news station that is actually transmitted, CNN and MSNBC are on the list but blocked out. While the gym was lacking many machines and was extremely overcrowded I am leaving a 5 star review because Ethan & Leo went above and beyond to give us a tour and get us a guest pass even when we walked in to inquire while they were slammed (and without an appointment). Their passion for the business definitely made us consider a membership with YMCA and it's great to see that the company is treating their employees well. I love all YMCA's! I can exercise with any Y because of the membership I have. I had not been to this Y partly because of its location to where I live but they were having an educational talk here so we signed up and came! The Y's here are very tied to Baptist medical centers so different doctors volunteer to talk on their specific areas; today Dr. T. Vosseller, MD. He is a specialist with ankle and feet; not what I wanted but he was very interesting. Who knew they do have ankle replacement now! I would definitely call him with any issues with either ankles or feet. The facility is on the St John's Rivers with nice windows to view it. They have a "healthy" cafe if you want a snack. I saw their large indoor pool and thought maybe I could do water aerobics during the winter here! read more

After a couple years of coming to this Y regularly, an update is necessary. I'm a pretty low maintenance gym goer (would love a garage gym, if I owned a garage) but it's too much to ignore. The building itself is still spectacular, but everything inside has been in decline pretty much unabated. Hopefully this and other recent negative reviews will get some attention. Broken equipment: I'm not sure they have replaced or upgraded a single piece of equipment in three years, other than some rubber mats. There are barbells out on the floor which are bent so much as to be dangerous to use (the plates would slide off if you loaded them) -- I've pointed them out to staff repeatedly, and nothing is done. Any busy gym is maintaining their bars every month and replacing any that are bent or locked up, but Winston Y doesn't seem to care. I rarely use machines, but I notice the same ones frequently out of order. Crowds and kids: I only come late at night or weekend mornings now. It's just not worth fighting the volume of people. Adding to the problem is that people are using this place as a daycare - there is an actual daycare downstairs, but more often than not there are packs of kids just roaming the gym floor, running around, using equipment. It's especially bad when there are games happening on the basketball court. Staff: the front desk folks just seem sort of overwhelmed, but the upstairs staff are making the situation actively worse. They are clearly untrained - on multiple occasions, I've heard a couple of them (especially one female, who I see actually training people sometimes) be unable to identify basic pieces of equipment or actually misexplain how to use them to members. They are also universally inattentive to problems (like equipment issues or 11 year olds trying to squat and nearly killing themselves), because they are way too busy on their phones or laptops. I also heard a couple of the males make sexual or homophobic comments about members. That I have directly addressed either with the staff member or the manager - doesn't seem to have had an effect. Could be great again if they put in some work, but no signs of that changing. Really sad to see. read more

I was a member of this YMCA from the time they first opened until Covid closed it temporarily and I haven't been back until now. It's still a beautiful facility. Nice parking available and located right on the Riverwalk so you have beautiful views as your exercise. The only real disappointed is some of the maintenance has not been kept up with, the locker room showers definitely need some updating. Some of the equipment is out of order and they all could use a good deep cleaning. On the positive side, the staff are so friendly and helpful and there is something for everyone from the indoor pool to the weight machines and of course, a number of all different kinds of classes. I noticed going at peak times in the mornings that the leg weight equipment will have a wait so it would be nice if they had a couple more of those popular machines. Overall I am really happy to be back and think it's still one of the best YMCA locations in town. read more

It's taken me a while to write a review for the Winston Y. My problem is where do I begin and where do I end. I have so much to say about this facility. I credit the Y for making me physically and mentally fit. Been a member of the First Coast Y for over 10 years. I've enjoyed the Yates but when they built this amazing building, the Winston Y, I thought surely it will become more impersonal. Not so. I've known more members & staff at Winston. They always have fun competition that keeps you working out. Last year I participated in the YFL Competition, you pick an NFL team and form a team of 3 and compete. You earn points from classes and other fitness activities. I've always been inconsistent with my fitness routine in the past so why would it be any different this time. The camaraderie and healthy competition kept me on track & motivated. Working out 2 to 3 hours a day, 6 days a week was crazy. Even crazier was my team of 3 (Margaret,Jojo and me) the Bengals Zumba Bears, after 6 weeks, big surprise, won the 2017 YFL Championship for the Winston Y. I credit the Y staff for being the best cheerleaders. Special thanks to Ryan Parker a great motivator who kept us going. We totally enjoyed working with him. I also want to mention Morgan my other 'go to person', who's always helpful and knowledgeable. Through the years, though inconsistent at times, my mainstay has always been Zumba with the amazing Gabie. The Y has so much to offer all you need to do is ask. The staff, instructors, and even the members go out of their way to help. It's such a great community, one that I could not live without. They have something for everyone one. Not only are you having fun but you are taking steps towards healthy living. True to their motto: The Y is for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Come check it out. The new YMCA is great. Spacious, clean, and friendly. Lots of classes in the new studios, (I do wish they had more yoga times, though.) with tons of available parking. Sauna, Steam Room, 2 pools, Massages, In Door Track, Weights, Cardio Equipment and more ... all located over looking the St. John's River. Not enough equipment. Half of the gym floor has a monkey bar taking up a TON of space and no one even uses it. Need to figure out how to add more machines because there is ALWAYS a wait for machines. At $70 dollars a month some changes definitely need to be made. read more

I just recently joined this gym, and it has been quite the joy! This location has been recently renovated within the past year and they did an absolutely fantastic job! Although this facility is pretty crowded, I have never felt like I haven't been able to do certain things because of the population. Equipment is always clean and the staff is extremely friendly here. My only wish, is that I would be able to use the studio room. At my previous Gym, we were able to use the studio space if there weren't any classes taking place. Being a former ballerina and yoga instructor, I wish I could use the barre room to stretch after my workout. Membership is not cheap here, but I do believe the facility, and amount of classes make it worth it. Thanks YMCA! read more

I visited Winston Family YMCA on December 3rd as a venue for an event with my women's writer's organization. It was a beautiful place to host the book launch of our newest anthology. The facility was awesome! We were out on the patio and the views were incredible. The weather was perfect. Inside the building is incredible. What a beautiful place! I would go here in a minute! I did take advantage of the little cafe afterward the event and had a cup of coffee with a friend the walked along the riverside. I recommend the facility highly! read more

I love the atmosphere and quality of the training/equipment but the app needs some work. I signed up for a BodyPump class and arrived on time, and all the spots were filled. I was confused since I had booked 24 hrs in advance and it was confirmed. I showed up and all the spots were taken and the app said six were still open....I'm guessing some people just walk in? Regardless I recommend showing up early to make sure you get a spot, as booking means little. The instructor saw I was confused and said nothing. Otherwise, great gym. read more

I have been a regular here since before the new state of the art gym opened. I survived Yates, I even have a t-shirt to prove it! Something about this place that makes it incredibly welcoming. Many other gyms you have to choose from but if you are looking for a gathering place, whether it be because you take part in an exercise class or simply do your thing on your own with friendly people around, this is your Y. I feel that there were some issues at first. This is normal as you work out the kinks in equipment, people's habits and maintenance. I feel that management has listened and taken action where appropriate. I have frequented other Y's in the First Coast but none compare to my Y. Brand new facility with an amazing view from the cardio machines. They have a lot to offer with fitness classes, child care, the pool, etc. I took two stars away for two reasons - sometimes it is so busy that I have trouble finding parking and there will be people standing there staring at me while I work out waiting to use my machine which is super uncomfortable. (I go after work so I understand it might be the busiest time of day 5-6:30 pm.) My only other issue is that there is a lack of space to do free weight exercises and there are not many benches. I would love if they put more benches around the entire gym so we are able to spread out and not be piled up near the weights. read more

I was very disappointed at this YMCA. I just moved here May of 2018 and I was very excited to join the YMCA since it's so close to our house. When I first went what I noticed is none of the employees didn't seem want to help me. But I still joined despite the fact that I already felt that first time I was there. The parking lot is a nightmare! And it makes me so upset because literally I have to stress whenever I have to go there on where I am going to park. They do not gave enough equipments for everyone! And they open late! The YMCA in Richmond, Va opens earlier so it is more convenient for me. To be honest I do not recommend going here or becoming a member. Yes, they have nice facilities since it is a new building but other than that I was very disappointed and I am very happy that I have cancelled my membership thru them! read more

This place has a lot to offer. Gym, indoor track, group exercise, 2 pools, weights, machines, locker room with sauna, steam room, bathrooms, and showers, and I can't forget the Wellness center and Brooks rehab. Even when it's busy everyone is nice, helpful, and have replenished towels. The locker room is sort of a maze but easy to follow. They also have a family locker room and a kid zone if you need someone to watch you kiddies while you workout. If you want to learn to swim they offer lessons for kids and Adults. The Y also does a lot for the communities around Jax. If you feel you can't afford it, I think they work with you on that. read more

We joined the Winston Y two weeks ago and we are absolutely in love. The facility is brand new and has all the extra features. Indoor track, kid zone where you can get 2 free hours of childcare while you workout, heated pools, sauna, and dozens of classes every day. I love the yoga classes and body flow but of course they also offer spin, body pump, Zumba, etc. When you sign up they offer you a one hour session with a trainer where you can run through a basic fitness test and get setup on their jumpstart program. The program includes an app that builds specific workouts for you. It has the reps, intervals, and also instructions on how to use the machine. As you complete the workout, you enter what you did and it adjusts your workout so you continue to see progress. Really great for those of us who are not work out experts. Another thing I really love is that they offer swim classes for all ages. We plan to register our 7 month old for the infant class. We want her to be comfortable and safe in the water. The last few notes would be the friendly staff, they are unbelievable. They also have free coffee until 11:30 M-F for me that is amazing because it is really hard to find time for extra caffeine, silly I know but it is just a great example of how the gym has a little something extra for everyone. read more

Winston YMCA is the nicest gym I've ever been a member of. I joined about a week ago and if you're my friend on Yelp you know I check in daily. The locker rooms are reminiscent of a spa, with a steam room, sauna, and complimentary lockers. The entire facility is extremely clean and the staff are quite friendly. There is something for everyone, whether it be yoga class, weights, cardio, or running on the indoor track. I love that the layout of the main gym area is extremely open, as I am sometimes prone to feeling cramped and claustrophobic. I can't wait to try spin class and swim in the indoor pool! read more

This Y is always so clean which I love! I come here for Zumba with Gabie and my Zumba fam and we ALWAYS have a great time! The showers are plenty and they provide towels and some toiletries. There is also plenty of equipment and I've never had to wait for machines. The indoor track gives opportunity to run no matter what the weather if you're like me and dont like spending much time on a treadmill. read more

This location has been one of the best Y's I have been a part of. The staff here are warm and friendly. They are quick to recognize you after a couple of visits. Whit, who assisted us in joining, was very informative and welcoming. We didnt think twice about making this our home Y. As cheesy as it sounds, working out here is a pleasure.
