The guy Sam quoted $1000 for replacing gutters, but [1] came out and charged extra $600, demanding cash for replacing the backboard, [2] did not fix and said did not want touch the connected rain diverter on the roof because that is not included, although the rain diverter is a critical part of the rain drainage system, AND [3] ended up damaging the adjacent part of the house. (dislocated soffit). The installed backboard is all wavy and the guy even did not bother to remove the sticker of the new board. When I made a complaint with forwarded photo on the record, the guy Sam called and started yelling at me over the phone claiming that the installation is 100% correct. However, when I asked if he had checked the photo, he said no. In my opinion, these guys are gutter cleaners thinking that they can also do the gutter contractor work, but their skill level and responsibility does not meet the minimum expectation. read more

We recently retained Winston's to clean the gutters of our new house and they did a really sketchy job. It was only one guy here doing the work and when we checked the downspout openings near the ground the next day, they still had clumps of leaves and other debris in them. The previous owners of this house used Winston's, so they've had good business from this property. Losing that business is apparently not enough incentive for Winston's to respond to calls and emails inquiring about why the work was not properly performed and requests for estimates for gutter repairs. When sharing our story with friends, they've told us that Winston's used to be great but that it's really gone downhill. We will likely try a different company for our gutter work. read more

Unfortunately I had to stop usIng Winston's. The service went way downhill and they raised their prices so it's pricey. Specifically, I had scheduled them to clean my gutters, as usual. After a good while waiting, they still had not come so I called to find out what the delay was. They said that they had already done the gutters, but I told him that I was looking right at them and they had not. So they gave me a new date range, and the exact same thing happened again. I got a bill but they had not come. I called and said, what's going on, you guys still haven't come but you sent me a bill. And they said oh yes we did. So I replied, I'm looking right at the gutters and they definitely have not been done. I had to really insist that they had not come and that I was not going to pay the bill. Had to speak with a manager, who by the way does not seem to be on site much and usually has to call back on a different day. She had a weird excuse that the crew must have gone and given two other houses a free gutter cleaning by accident. Right- I might've bought it if it had been one time, but I really doubt such a thing would happen twice. Finally the crew came out. However, a while after paying the bill, I noticed that my rain barrel was not filling up so I called them back and said it seemed that the gutters must be blocked. The person I spoke with said that they would be willing to come inspect but not do anything, if I wanted them to actually do anything I would have to pay again. I told them that if that was how they were going to be, after all of the difficulty getting the cleaning done to start with, that I would stop using them after having used them for about 10 years. They said fine. So I found someone else to clean the gutters. I have asked Winston's Gutters stop calling me with reminders and stop sending me reminder postcards, to no avail. It's too bad, because they used to be good and reasonable, but they became quite the opposite. read more

Winston Gutters has been cleaning our gutters for several years and we are very satisfied with them. We've had gutter services where the fellows throw the crud from the gutter down on the yard but Winston's staff put the icky stuff into recycle bags. I appreciate that! I don't like to hire day labor to do our gutters because one is three stories up and I want someone who carries workman's comp insurance. Winston's is a legitimate place and I fell confident hiring them. They are busy. When you call they will not necessarily come out the next day. When they do come they'll do a good job and clean up after themselves. read more

I have been a Winston gutter customer for over 20 years, I get a postcard like always to remind me to have my gutters cleaned, but this time they announced a price increase after November 19, I had a call back from them for the appointment, an informed me "Oh by the way your new rate is $180.00 per visit. I have never heard of a business almost doubling the rate. Is this against the law? or is their a consumer protection agency for Maryland? I will never have them again, I will tell all my friends whom I recommended them to drop them. So, called up made an appointment to have my gutters cleaned. After several follow up calls, three weeks later nobody has come out. Weather has been unusually warm and dry so the delay is not weather related. Keep getting told someone will be here shortly but the woman who answers the phone can't ever commit to a date or even a window of times. If you want get on a fantasy schedule this is your place. If you actually want work done go elsewhere. Note that the positive reviews for Winston's tend to be 5-10 years old, more recent reviews are much more negative. read more

I've never wrote a Yelp review before but my experience has left me so uneasy that I need to warn other people to stay clear. Scheduling Winston's to come out and clean the gutters was effortless. When they arrived on site from what I could tell they did a good job and it looked like they did a good job as they filled up a few garbage bags. However the next time we got heavy rain I could see water going over the edge of the gutters. I called into the office and complained about it and they said they would send someone out. A month later I called back for an update and they told me someone had come out (which was news to me) and the issue is I need new gutters and that basically they can't help me. To say I was unsatisfied would be an understatement. Stay clear. read more

They did a thorough job, although there was some confusion about scheduling. They quoted me a price on the phone based on their minimum (100 feet of gutters at .$83/ft), but it ended up being $10 more because some of my lower gutters has leaf guards ($1/ft) and there was a weird $3 "transportation surcharge". On the other hand, my gutters were pretty full of junk, including sprouted maple seedlings and there was no extra for that. Reasonably happy overall. read more

It took a long time for them to get to my home. I was scheduled for December and they came at the end of January. In all fairness the weather was cold and caused a delay. They did drag their ladder around the house digging up grass and dirt. What to expect when the company had only ONE man doing the gutters of a very large home. Two men should have been there to help with the ladder.There has been a price raise with worse service. The men are very nice but I suggest you look elsewhere read more

I just used Winston's for the first time and it was as easy a process as possible. I called during a week with heavy storms (a good reminder that the gutters needed cleaning) and the office said they would call me after the rains let up and they were able to start working again. They called after the storms passed to let me know someone would be there the following day. I didn't need to be home, but I happened to be anyway and the serviceman was very nice, professional, and quick. He left me the bill ($88 for the front/back gutters of my townhouse), I called the office to pay it, and that's that. Will definitely use this company again. read more

Called to get an estimate for repairs, giving them dates when I would be home - they said that they would be out within 2 weeks. A month later, long after I had given up on them ever showing up and had called another firm to schedule the work, I came home to find an invoice for $202. I called and asked what they had done for the $202 they were asking for, and was told that it was the inspection fee to tell me that I needed gutter work. Yech - what a complete rip-off. I called Winston's b/c my regular gutter cleaning service was backed up because of all the rain, and could not come out for a month. I chose not to use Winston's service because of the possibility of surprise charges that they could not clarify on the phone for when they would apply. Their basic charge was reasonable: $83 minimum for 100 ft of gutter to be cleaned. However, they charge an extra $20-40 if they need to use a 36-44' ladder. When I asked the receptionist if they would use that type of ladder to clean gutters that were 2 stories up, she did not know. After going multiple rounds where I requested she ask somebody to find out and she refused, she said 'probably' not. When I said that I did not want any surprise charges on my bill, she informed me that there could other surprise charges like $25 extra if they have to clean the downspout, which they wouldn't know until they get there. Unless something is broken/needs to be fixed, I don't expect any surprise charges on a basic gutter cleaning bill. I will just wait for Maple Leaf gutter cleaning services where I get good, reliable service and I don't have to worry about surprise charges on my bill. read more
