I am retired and live on a fixed income. That being said, my dog is now 7 and has never been to a Veterinarian other than when I first got them home to get checked and wormed. I cannot afford annual Vet. visit. I take my dog , every year, to a mobile Vet. for shots only. My sweet Allie had developed a growth behind her ear and it needed to come off. I was hesitant , knowing what animal surgery costs in the city by hearing of similar situations from friends and family. I was referred to Hickory Knoll by someone I trust! I was skeptical and nervous for my dog. This place is truly special!! My dog had a little area to as she's super skittish around people that she doesn't regularly see. They made her feel at ease, which surprised me. As of late , they take strict precautions as far as Covid is concerned. They come get your pooch from your car and offer payment options while in your vehicle. I can't say enough about how much Hickory Knoll has changed my perception of Veterinarians. They even call , twice in fact , to check up on your animal after the visit. They do this every time and it means a lot to me.

As an anxious auntie who doesn't own a pet I freaked out a bit. I came in (on a Saturday) within an hour of closing and the managed to fit us in despite having a fully booked schedule. Ashley at the front desk was so kind and patient and helpful. Dr. A and the vet tech (was too overwhelmed to get her name) were patient with me (and my anxiety) despite it causing them to have to stay a little late. She was thorough with my options, provided an estimate before Starting to treat and we dodged having to pay an inflated amount for an urgent care visit at another place because of their willingness to see us as a last minute walk-in. I am reminded that I am not up for the stress of being a full-time pet owner and am so grateful for receiving helpful care today.

Dixie looked great and came out with a pep in her step. Amanda took extra TLC care with Dixie because of her age and weakness. I waited there while Dixie was getting groomed. The office personnel / front desk staff were personable , engaging and interested in our stay. They went above and beyond to help get to the bottom of information I was seeking about Dixie regarding her microchip . I have been there several times to pick up food and they were always engaging and kind. That goes a long way for me. I love our vet , so I would not change at this stage of the game for Dixie. If I were starting over with a veterinarian / veterinary hospital, I would come here. A+ all around . Good job!

She didn't have any outward signs of issues, other than some scratches/scabs, but as she and I went on our daily walks, she developed a hematoma on the shoulder on the side where she was hit. Thankfully, she was already a patient at Maple Small Animal Clinic, and they were able to squeeze us in when I got off of work the next day. Dr. Schmidt examined her and noticed how that shoulder wasn't quite feeling the same as the other. While the dog didn't show any signs of slowing or pain, there was obviously something up. They took x-rays and, thankfully, nothing was broken or showing anything major, so she sent us home to a week of bed rest, icing, and relaxing to help it start to heal. We called back after a week, with minimal change, but Dr. Schmidt reassured me and we continued on with our plan. She told me it may take 6-8 weeks to really go away, so loaded with that timeline, I was able to relax a bit more about the lump on the pup's shoulder. Sure enough, after 3 weeks it was less than half the size, and practically gone within the month. I'm so glad the staff at Maple were so helpful and understanding, especially since she's not my dog, but she is their patient, they were really able to help me stay calm and get her the treatment she needed.

I don't tolerate incompetence or discourtesy. I had one bad experience here when a new vet misdiagnosed my dog because she failed to pull a blood panel and I ended up taking her to MedVet for intense emergency treatment. That vet is no longer associated with the practice. I've found EVERYONE there, including receptionists, vets, and vet assistants to be entirely professional, courteous, friendly, and above all, very competent and caring for both the animals and their human clients. My current dog, Willy, is 17 and broke his leg. He had surgery to repair the break yesterday and is doing fine but, because of his age, they opted to keep him an additional day. I expect to pick him up this afternoon. That I agreed to have surgery on a 17-year-old dog should indicate my confidence in this practice. I've seen a couple of bad reviews and the only thing I can say is that these reviews are completely opposite to my experiences. As I indicated, I have no problem firing people if I find them rude or incompetent. My having continued to use the clinic for 15 years should speak volumes about my satisfaction.

Who else has had a traumatic experience with Med Vet on Causeway?…read more https://www.medvet.com/location/new-orleans/ I was referred to this emergency vet after calling Pet Center on David Dr. around 10:49 PM regarding a severely injured baby possum I found still alive with traumatic injuries and exposed organs. I was shocked and deeply upset by my experience. The hospital refused not only to examine the possum, but also declined to provide humane euthanasia. Instead, I was told to drive approximately an hour to Baton Rouge (which was closed) or begin calling wildlife rehabilitators myself--after 11 PM at night. What made this experience even more upsetting was that no veterinarian came out to speak with me directly. I was told they did not handle wildlife, but this was a tiny, fatally injured baby animal clearly suffering and in obvious distress. I understand clinics have at discretion policies and limitations, but I left feeling helpless, frustrated, and heartbroken. I took a chance driving there late at night, even with a brand-new trailer attached and no lights, because I was trying to do the right thing and prevent suffering. Sadly, the baby possum died later that night. That reality has stayed with me. Part of me wants to share the photos so people can understand the severity of the situation and why I was desperately seeking help. Compassion matters in emergency situations. I was not looking for specialized wildlife treatment--I was simply trying to find humane help for a suffering animal and left feeling dismissed during a heartbreaking emergency.

Dr Batt was honest and took time to talk to me about my old pug. It's so refreshing to go to a Vet who didn't suggest costly things to do. In fact, it was the opposite. He told me my old guy was old and happy, let him leave his life out without doing stressful things to him. I drive from Covington ( 80 miles round trip) to bring my pugs to them because for me and them it's worth the drive and time. Pugs are known for misbehaving for nail trims and these guys handle them with a smile and quickly. They also are the most reasonable priced vet I've found in New Orleans or on the northshore so that's an added bonus!

I get it - you have to triage patients. But if it's like this every day, there should be communication when your clients check in, or ideally text them an hour or so before the appointment time to let them know if they can expect to be seen on time or if there will be a delay. In my most recent visit, I checked with reception after a half hour of waiting, and I was told that they did not have an estimate on when I'd be seen. Two stars because the folks here do seem to care about their patients, but are - at best - indifferent to their clients.
