Dr. W. really is a world-class practitioner, and the staff is VERY helpful, attentive, and friendly. My eye exam took less than 1/3rd the time it took for my last eye exam to be administered (which was done at NSU). Chris R's review prompted me to write this review on a review site that I don't usually trust myself like Yelp. First of all Chris from Texas you should be very ashamed at yourself for posting such threatening comments that can harm a 33 year practice of vision care and customers who wouldn't go anywhere else in the world but Dr W at Wise Eyes. The old slogan of "You get what you pay for " holds true for Dr Martin Wiesenthal. You made this doctor to be some sort of a used car salesman. Well 1- you mentioned your wife is pregnant. Have you noticed that when you went to other competing vision centers the doors were open since May 4th and they have a staff? Dr W even though he could cares about this patient's safety that he is taking every precaution that others are not. Did you notice that he has the door locked and is seeing one patient at a time and even his associates are not called back to work? This is for your safety and I would think with your wife being pregnant the LAST thing you would want to do in this environment is to bring home a potentially life threatening illness to your wife carrying your child by not social distancing . 2- I myself once tried to use someone else for the purpose Dr W was on vacation and they were highly highly recommended. I wound up going to small claims court to get a refund and swore 10 years ago to anyone who tells me Wise Eyes is too expensive and I can get 3 pair for $29 online or go to Walmart and save money , that I will never trust any of my vision needs to anyone else but Dr Martin Wisenthal. I can 100% vouch without knowing what your individual diagnosis was that whatever diagnosis and recommendation this doctor recommended was customized for your Personal situation and with 33 years of expertise to back it up. No one handcuffed you. You are welcome to go elsewhere with your prescription. Legally you own that prescription for 5 years in Florida. I would bet my bottom dollar that the lower priced options will not be anywhere close to the quality of product that Dr Wiesenthal uses and as corrective as what you would have gotten at Wise Eyes. I have no personal connection to this business except a 20 year relationship as the ONLY Vision care center I will ever use as long as it is still in business because his exams are precise and his materials are the best and when it comes to my eyes I Learned the hard way 10 years ago I am not going anywhere else ever. Shame on you during these trying times for all of us including this practice of even thinking of trying to destroy a 33 year old practice whom 99.999% of their clients are repeats for many years , when I am 100% certain the doctor was just trying to solve your issues with your vision and eye health as the utmost priority of concern while keeping guy and your pregnant wife safe in the process. I stopped by today with a bit of hesitation due to the negative reviews but since they have a variety of designer brands I wanted to see them. I was politely greeted and laughs were even exchanged as I tried on the glasses. No one was walking around with calculators as mentioned in other reviews and there was absolutely no pressure to purchase anything. The glasses I desire should be coming in within a few weeks and the young lady took my name and number to call me when it arrives. Hi I just purchase a pair of eye glasses from this company and at first I felt good about the visit the dr was friendly enough as was the front staff until it came to picking out my glasses the manager was the worst type of shiester I've ever seen. She was trying to force me to buy things I did not need and lied to me. Told me certain things wold be added and it wasn't. BUYER BEWARE!! I'm in sales and the Manager (also the Dr.'s Wife) is a hard closer. She constantly figuring how to work the numbers (always has a calculator in hand). There is nothing wrong with selling but she was very pushy. I didn't buy my glasses and since I paid for my eye exam I asked for a copy of a prescription. I had to call back several times to get missing info which I believe was deliberately left out so I wouldn't be able to fill my prescription anywhere else. Shop around before you buy glasses I found my same frame for less than half the price and without all those hokey add ons they claim were extra. Look below at the response I received. A clear example of the professionalism and service you should expect. Btw I bought a pair of dolce and Gabbana glasses(far from cheap). 2/6/2015 Cyber bully! Using your alias to attack us is wrong. Did not feel comfortable at this place at all. They were way too pushy with sales. Felt like a customer first and a patient second. I understand that they have to make money but please do not make it so awkward. The place also seems pretty expensive in general so I'd shop around a bit. They're pretty knowledgeable about vision and eye health as one would expect they would be. But again, it seems like the focus is on selling. I think they charge you more for a check-up if you don't buy anything from them and/or use insurance or don't use insurance. I don't know, was pretty confusing. read more

I am sorry to say that I would avoid this place at all cost. The reviews that describe this as a hard-core business are very true. They charged my insurance twice on two separate visits for contact lenses I didn't purchase from them. They had to repay that money to my insurance company. I discovered this when I attempted to pursue reimbursement for the lenses I got through another company. I only returned to his practice because I thought it was an honest mistake and then it happened again. Although Dr. W wants us to be impressed with his experience and education, he could use a little coaching on how to deal with people. His approach is nothing short of "rude". He needs to remember that the customers pay his bills. As you can see from his review responses previously posted, he could not possibly be wrong. There are too many optometrists out there to put up with this place. I would avoid them at all cost. I had my final interaction with this very rude, arrogant and disrespectful man! I had been to Dr. Wiesenthal's office twice in the past, and was very satisfied both times. When I moved to Ft Lauderdale, I took the recommendation of a friend and saw a new optometrist in Wilton Manors, since it was close, and the doctors had good reviews. Unfortunately, the very expensive glasses i purchased never fit well or felt right visually, so I resorted to wearing the old pair from Dr. Wiesenthal's office which fit just right, though the prescription was no longer effective. I returned to Dr Wiesenthal's office, and not only was I offered a same day appointment (which I scheduled for the day after with no problem), I was served by a very enthusiastic and professional young lady. Upon arriving to my appointment, I was warmly greeted, and waited no more than 5 minutes to see the doctor. The exam was prompt, thorough, and I had the utmost confidence that I was dealing with a professional and very competent optometrist. This is a family owned business which has been in the same location for at least 15 years that I know of, so they must be doing something right. Once the exam was complete i went out front to select my glasses. At no point was I led toward more expensive frames, or pressured into things I did not need. Yes, the optician (Demaris, very professional and invested in helping you select the most comfortable and flattering frame) had a calculator. She gave me a quote which was lower than I expected, so I decided to purchase a second pair of glasses. When all was said and done, I had a pair of computer glasses and a pair of everyday glasses ( with magnetic sunglasses) for almost 50% less than the one pair of glasses I was replacing them with had cost. Prices may be somewhat lower elsewhere, (In many cases much higher) but the competence of Dr Wiesenthal and the service his staff offers is simply superior. I would like to add that the beautiful and gracious Ely is in no way a "hard closer". She's a passionate professional who makes sure you walk out with the most comfortable and flattering frames. She can simply eyeball a pair of frames and tell if they will work for you aesthetically and practically. Sure she's a strong closer. She's there to help you choose the best product for you. You're there because you need vision correction. Why ever would she not try to sell you a product you came in for in the first place? As I was typing this review, a call came in informing me that the computer glasses I ordered yesterday and desperately needed to perform my job were ready. Not only were these glasses comfortable and much lighter than my previous pair, the lenses are at least 40% thinner, and I paid a premium for the last pair to get the thinnest lenses possible. Bringing my 14 year old son to see Dr. Martin Wiesenthal and Ely Wiesenthal at WISE EYES OPTICAL AND VISION CENTER was a PHENOMENAL experience! I made the mistake of bringing my son to a "chain" optical store last year. You know, the ones that lure you in with "buy one get one free" promotions. He ended up with new glasses that were both ineffective and uncomfortable. He struggled the entire year with less than optimal vision. Dr. Wiesenthal, owner of Wise Eyes, and a highly credentialed, board certified optometrist, who has been in the same location for over 30 years, gave my son a comprehensive exam of both his vision and his eye health. My son didn't even mind being dilated! as Dr. Wiesenthal's caring communication with patients, put my son at ease. After the exam, with a new eyeglass prescription, Ely Wiesenthal, owner and manager, gave her expertise in helping my very shy son pick out a beautiful pair of Hugo Boss glasses that fit his face and were extremely comfortable! She had him talking and taking part in the choosing experience! Ely is so customer oriented and makes you feel so at ease with what can be a difficult decision! Ely knew that I didn't have vision insurance, so she gave me an amazing price for the glasses, with all the quality options I wanted for my son. After all, HE IS WORTH THE BEST! These options included a high quality high index lens, because of his fairly high myopia, GENUINE Crizal no-glare lenses and GENUINE Transitions, which darken in the sun. Only top quality materials are used at Wise Eyes! The most AMAZING part of this experience is when my son received his beautiful new glasses and said " MOM, I CAN FINALLY SEE CLEARLY! Excellent service from beginning to end. The doctor is very nice, polite and has excellent bedside manners. He is also very knowledgeable. They have a big selection of frames to select from and the prices are better than most places I've been to. The assistant at the front is very helpful too. I got my prescribed glasses the same day, literally less than an hour after my visit they call me to go pick them up. The manager is a very nice lady and also gave me a great deal for being a new patient. Went to see Dr. Martin Wiesenthal for the first time and had a really bad experience, I had contacts for many years and never had someone manhandle my eye so ungently, he was polite but later that day one of my eyes had blood on the sclera (the white part of the eye). Upon my return to the optical, his wife was extremely confrontational and defensive, claiming it wasn't her husband fault. Regardless if it was his fault or not she needed to be courteous and provide professional customer service, instead of making me feel better she upset and made me want to run out of there and NEVER come back. On another note, be aware of high prices, everything in here is inflated at less double. read more

From the moment you walk in, until the time you leave, the exceptional care you receive is world class! Dr Weisenthal is the most caring and knowledgeable optometrist I have ever been to. He sits with you from the initial testing, until he finalizes your prescription. I have never had such a great contact lens exam as I did with Dr. Weisenthal. He is very honest, and caring, and you truly feel like you're being taken care of. Then there is the optical sales department. Ely, the manager is AWESOME!!!! Last year I did try another option as I got caught up in getting two pairs of glasses for $69.00 or whatever the cost was. The glasses were crap and felt cheap when I wore them. My husband purchased an expensive set of glasses and they broke before the year. He got them fix as they were still in warranty. Then 5 days after the year was over they started falling apart and even the glass coating was pealing. We've purchase cheap glasses before and never had them break so soon. On the time he went to get his glasses fix they talked him into having his eyes dilated even thought he didn't need it. Just because the insurance would cover it. He spent the whole day unable to work. He had his eye dilated before but never like this, something was really wrong. This was just our experience, we are disappointed. read more

This place is a joke. The doctor talked to me like I was 5 and incompetent. He was overall very rude and clearly didn't know how to talk to his patients. I also told his staff two times that I had insurance. Once when I made my emergency appointment to treat my infected eye. Another time when I completed the intake sheets upon arrival and advised them that there was no area for me to fill in my insurance info. However, the doctor saw me and and once I walked out he lowered his voice to advise his staff to charge me $75 for the office visit (my boyfriend just went to an optometrist who charged him the same thing with NO insurance). Me, now annoyed from the pain in my eye and the doctors rudeness, paid the balance and left in a hurry. It wasn't until later that I realized these scam artists never took down my insurance info and figured it was easier to just get the money from me. I called the next day to advise and they said they "ran" my insurance and I wasn't covered- yet, they never asked me for my insurance info. I advised them of that, and they said, well the doctor said he explained the fees to you. Nope, not once. Then they said, well, we can send you the super bill and you can claim it with your insurance on your own. Nope. Not my job. The office manager called me back and the first thing she said was "WERE NOT SCAMMING YOU. AND WE HAVE CAMERAS ALL THROUGHOUT THE OFFICE". Okay, what's that supposed to mean? Is it a threat? Because I'm not lying. After back and forth with the office manager who offered NOW, a day later, to call my insurance to see if I'm covered and reimburse me, had her assistant call me to tell me" uhm we dropped a check in the mail so you can take that and go somewhere else". The nerve. After I caught them in four different lies. This place is a joke. Watch yourselves. read more

Let me start off by saying that it has been over six months since I visited this place. (my first and last visit) when I say I had a TERRIBLE experience, folks, TRUST ME, it was the worst ever! I went to this optical because I wanted an specific brand of frames (Ferragamos) - and they were the nearest optical to me that represented this brand. I scheduled an appt. everything was good until I sat down with the guy in the scrubs who Is allegedly the top contact lens doctor in the state of Florida. (This claim can be found on their website www.wiseyes.com but nowhere else on the web! Heck, I don't even think Alcon vision knows who this man is! But anyways, back to my story... So before I arrived, I did my research with my insurance company I already knew what I was entitled to. So, I walk in to get my eyes examed and I am used to the eye doctors to be friendly specially on your first visit and try to get to know you etc. This guy was the complete opposite, he was arrogant and made me feel like If the service he was providing me was free. His tone is very condescending as well. - my experience as a patient was horrible at best but I can live with that. I didn' go there to make a friend, I went there because they offered the brand that I wanted. So now to the fun part. As I exit the exam room, the lady at the front already has a few frame options layed out for me to try on. So I decide on my frame, at that very moment the manager walks in, who happens to be the wife of the guy in the scrubs that did my eye exam. So she lays out the numbers for the cost and I notice that something is not right. I tell her this is what I am entitled to ( I explained to her what my insurance covers) she then gets defensive with me and tells me, NO these are FERRAGAMOS and they are made in ITALY. I said yes, in did, they are an Italian brand, however, as per my ins. comp. they are manufactured by MARCHON and therefore, I am entitled for this discount. She comtinued to argue with me and told me that the insurance companies tells us what we want to hear and that then later they have a hard time collecting the money from them. (At that time the guy in scrubs comes to the front and decided to engage in the conversation. His 2 cents? - We cannot give you a lower discount because our frames are already reduced to the lowest cost. Well excuse me mr. guy in scrubs, I am not sitting here asking you for a "lower discount"or for any discount for that matter. I am asking you to provide me with what I am ENTITLED to by as per my insurance! So, you either honor what my insurance covers or I will take my business elsewhere! So, of course, at that point the manager contacted the insurance and even had the audacity to even STILL argue with the insurance rep telling her that the Ferragamos are made in Italy and not manufactured by Marchon. - after a lengthy discussion, my insurance company had to fax them proof of what I am entitled to WHICH THEY ALREADY HAVE since they are an "In network" provider! At the end they honored everything I was entitled to but man, that was a rough experience! I never thought I would see them again until I saw them on Local news today as their store just got robbed, which prompted me to write this review 6 months after my visit. read more
