Happy to say they were one of the only skate shops still open in Carlsbad village on thanksgiving day, so I was able to actually replace my skateboard's bearings that were over due to be swapped out! I support businesses that provide their customers with adequate store hours so they can buy products at their convenience. The employee who helped me was helpful letting me use tools to take off the old bearings and then they easily put the new ones in for me! I've been a long time supporter of this board shop and I was happy after today's transaction, so I'll surely be back next time I need more hardware or for a new merch shirt to show support! read more

It was freezing. I needed a hoodie so I sadly got one here, a hoodie that targets me as a tourist. I kept saying in a fake eastern European accent: "Look at me. I am to be riding American surfing board yes?" to help alleviate the shame. Anyway, when we were rung up, the guy clearly asked for $43, which I questioned because it was supposed to be 20% off of $38. Nope, no mistake. Hmm. Is tax more than ten percent? Nope. Hmm. But 20% off of 38 is 32... it can't be...more than $40 with tax. Finally, the manager comes by and in an attempt to show me that I'm wrong, gets the calculator and confirms that the correct price $38 or so, and the kid says "Yeah, that's what I said." I was upset to see him lie, so in frustration, I asked my wife if we should buy somewhere else, to which the manager replied, "Do what you got to do." So, in that spirit, this yelp review is me doing what I got to do. I'd also like to point out that almost ALL of their five star reviews are from Yelp profiles with 0-1 friends, a suspicious coincidence that, in my opinion, stinks of disingenuous solicited reviews. In the 80's and 90's this place was a vital part of my childhood, and every time I come back to visit my hometown, I always make sure to support local businesses like Witt's. I bought my first McGill deck here in 1987 and my first BZ bodyboard and Victory wetsuit in 1988, and have been coming back ever since. I've stopped at this store every time I've been in the San Diego area. Have to give 2 stars this time though. My fiance and her daughter (who are black, which I hope had nothing to do with this) were looking at sunglasses, and, ended up buying a pair. But, one of the employees was watching them like a hawk. Standing like 7 feet away just staring at them for the 5 minutes they tried on glasses. Didn't say a word. He could have said, "could I help you find something". Nope, said nothing; just watched intensely. I've been in here many times; first time back around 2007. I never felt watched, or, uncomfortable in here; until this visit.
