Small establishment with a private parking lot (located next to the cemetery). Lots of used and some new items. We purchased a body board and wetsuit for our oldest daughter. They have a changing room to try on clothes. They have a variety of items- snow gear, roller skates, weights, skateboards, body boards, surf boards, bikes, wet suits, life vests, and more. Staff could have been friendlier (greet customers, ask if they need anything, etc). I read a review that was odd. A person looking for a specific item found it there at a significant savings off the normal retail price, they did some research and found it New on sale for More than what the used one was. Play it again sports is like going to Big 5 but it's Small 5 and everything is used for the most part. A great place to go if you want to clean out the garage and just want some cash. Very little cash, but more than you would get by just donating it. For example, the offer you $30 for a bike and sell it for $150. I purchased some new small dumbbells here. There are new body boards, electric bikes and roller skates. My beef is the service - the young staff just sits around and chats and does not want to help you. They really try to talk you out of selling your stuff. If you call they tell you to come in another day to talk to the more experienced person to "get the best price".... Aka their day off. Play It Again Sports has been a great resource for inexpensive and pre-owned sports and fitness gear. I've shopped here as a kid when I needed gear for lacrosse and softball. They have a lot to choose from. I recently visited again since COVID has forced us to take shelter and workout from home. I'm adding equipment to my garage gym and was in the market for kettle bells. This place is like a pawn shop. They offer bottom dollar. I brought in a complete set of Ping golf clubs with a bag and accessories. The clubs were in excellent condition. I realize that resale businesses like this have to turn a profit, but what they offer you for quality or barely used goods is pretty laughable. If you have the time you are better off selling your gear on ebay, facebook, or craigslist. They do offer some new goods, but those aren't necessarily a deal. If you're just looking to clean out the garage and part with things you don't care about for a few nickels you can do that here. The kids who 'work' here are an issue. You will always have to ask someone for help even if they see you and it's obvious why you are there. What a pleasure from beginning to end. Was recommended this store by a local Oceanside surf shop! Looking to buy a SUP board while also trading in my trail bike. Dustin (biz owner) and his crew were beyond helpful and provided such great insight, knowledge feedback when helping me pick a SUP board that would best fit me. Trading in a bike- super fair-they used what is like a KBB ratting for value but for bikes while assessing the bike as a whole Found a Paddleboard that was great, it when testing it out was not the best for me in the end (this is subject to experience, where you are padding and other factors). Dustin was great with insight and with my particular board was able to swap for another (a bit more $ - but you get what you pay for ). The shop even helped when I had to come back for fin assistance. Super happy what a pleasant experience - can't get this type of help/experience or flexibility from shopping online. Don't be afraid little one, you can find good deals on lightly used items here. A popular misconception that most make is that everything here is used. Not so my friend! The jock straps aren't used and neither are any weight gloves. I'm glad that nothing that touches your skin is sold as used here. You will find some decent deals on exercise equipment, but I'm always wary about buying stuff like that in general. The warranty is definitely void and if it breaks, you're SOL to the tune of a few hundred bucks. You can spend a third of that on a pair of great running shoes and run for free any time you want. I think the best value here is the used baseball equipment. Can't beat the pricing and no one cares about using old baseballs for batting practice. The bats might have a little less pop, but not so much that you'd notice. If you're broke, get it here... read more

He took them here and they gave him .50 cents per pound so he got a $60.00 credit on 3 Kettle balls. He bought 2 kettle balls and has been very pleased with them. This place is seriously lame. Customer service is the worst. After spending about 20 minutes shopping for some items, I went to pay with a Play it Again gift card I'd been given. Girl makes a comment how it's been forever since anyone used a gift card, couldn't figure out how to process the card, called the owner and explained to me that the machine has been broken for about a week and might be fixed soon, they could hold the items for me to come back whenever it's fixed. Well, I drove up here from Mira Mesa because they had posted an ad on Craigslist for a Bowflex M7 my girlfriend wanted to check out. It was a good deal (clearly too good to be true, as you'll soon see) and we wanted to see it before moving forward. I called earlier in the day and the person who answered said they had two: one was on hold and the other was still available. Called again before we left to go see it and was told one was still available but the other was gone. I asked if it was set up to see and was told that it was. Drove 40 minutes and upon arrival, lo and behold, they had a Bowflex but it wasn't the same as the one listed online. It was another machine that was similar at best, but less features and a different brand. All in all, a waste of time to confirm my thought that the staff there doesn't know what they have in inventory. Might be an alright place to get a skateboard or surfboard, but I wouldn't go back (and I'd tell you to avoid it too). read more

I was just telling him I was browsing but when I asked about any of the current deals going on he said he would have to go check because he was just starting to work there. STAY AWAY!! This place is AWFUL! Besides being extremely overpriced the customer service is a disgrace. Normally you read these and it's some teenage punk kid who doesn't care about his job. Not the case here. I drop 2 snowboards to get waxed. $12 a piece ready 48 hours. 3 days go by I don't hear from them so I call. The male on the phone says "oh the guy was sick, I'll have them done this afternoon" So later that afternoon I go to pick them up, the lady at the desk hands them to me I notice that absolutely nothing has been done to my boards. Just then the owner walks in and I bring this to his attention, he then very aggressively insults me by saying I obviously don't know anything about waxing. When I went in to complain about this item that they sold to a family member they were so defensive and rude. So much for customer service. This place is great and amazing when it comes to selling things back. I appreciate that they let you know that they might not but the item back because of the condition that it would be in. The team here is very nice and accommodating to you as a seller. Their parking lot is smaller than the previous location that they were at off of Emerald Drive off the 78 freeway, but this location is so much bigger that they are able to hold more stuff here. read more

The customer service here is sub par. My wife purchased a beach cruiser bike here and it was junk. To the stores benefit, the bike had exceeded the warranty period of 2 weeks for a refund (and she didn't keep the paper receipt....didn't know 2019 and paper receipts were still relevant lol). So I'll not give them 1 star for that reason. The way the store employee spoke to my wife with his tonality and inability to assist is why I'm writing a bad review. Maybe he was having a bad day, but I've not seen my wife this upset as she was over her experience at this play it again sports. I'll definitely not be going back there and hope the store learns how to speak to customers in a professional manner. My advice for consumers, 1. don't purchase anything from this store until you have fully checked it out and are satisfied with it. And 2. Don't believe the staff if they tell you that your rewards/profile saved the transaction, so keep your paper receipt. 3. If you want a garbage beach cruiser then just hit me up instead of going to this store and you can have ours lol. read more

I brought my snowboard in for what i thought was a "full tune" wax and edge sharpen when i went to pick up the board i noticed the edge was very poorly sharpened (inconsistent wavy and in some places the edge did not look sharped at all) and the wax for what I was described by the employee (don't know the name) was repair and wax i receive the board with a big gouge in the board which i believe was not there before i don't know if the comb gouged it or what happened but the board is 3 weeks old with no park use almost impossible to get a damaged bottom then i take it in and now it has one very disappointing for a service that is $45 dollars read more

I purchased a new (not used) foam surf board on September 4, 2011. After less than 10 uses, the board snapped in half on November 30, 2011. (I went under a wave and it came up in two pieces.) I was hoping that an exchange for a new one would be acceptable. I was told that I misused the product and that nothing could be done. Seriously! How does one misuse a surf board? You swim. Catch the wave. Stand. Wipe out. Do it again. I explained that I had expected to use this shop for the next 14 years to outfit my kids during their sport years. The owner failed to see the value in the $108 exchange for my future purchasing power in his shop and any further referrals. Needless to say, I understand why he hasn't made any money in the last five years (His words to me.) Customer satisfaction is really simple: Make the customer happy and they come back and refer other potential customers to the shop. As with all Play It Again Sports shops, great deals are to be found and I will continue to shop there. Just not this one (thus my two stars for this particular shop).
