We really like Bruce with whom we've connected about moving our service to New Holland once our…read morecurrent HVAC contract is over. We called to get a quote to replace a heater blower in our HVAC system. The problem had already been diagnosed. In fact, thru Shorty's in Indiana, we were quoted a price for the Carrier brand blower motor- $790 In fact, Shorty's told us what an easy fix this particular blower motor was. FYI: Shorty's marks up the prices by 20% to the trade and consumers. https://shortyshvac.com Bruce quoted a price of $2001- the highest estimate we had gotten from 5 companies. What part was being used, an EOM, or an aftermarket? We have no idea what that $ 2001 entailed- a massive markup on the part is what we presume, or an incredible hourly rate. We told him the price from Shorty's and he responded that his supplier was double in price. (WUT??) We bought the part from Shorty's. Had to ask twice via text to learn that Bruce was not interested in installing it for us. " We can only install parts we source and purchase. The installation of customer supplied parts presents issues with insurance coverage and warranty policy." What issues are they Bruce? is it that this job means you are making less money since your supplied parts markup is gone? Am sure that is it. Lack of transparency is not a winner for us. We have a 1 year warranty for this part from Shorty's. This quote and final response was unfortunate, especially knowing that we had opted to move to New Holland HVAC after our contract was over. No longer happening.

He meticulously installed my new air conditioner, stabilizing it, framing in out, and even filling in a gap between it and my house. You can tell he and his co-worker take great satisfaction in doing a meticulous job!! And the work he had to do in the basement was excellent. It is much better to work with small business owners like Bruce!! I can't say enough good about this business--their skill, work ethic, and professionalism!!

SK came out and did a seasonal checkup on our AC. We're new to the home and area and found SK…read morethrough Yelp. They were on time, checked out the AC, added coolant and then took a quick peek at the furnace. They said both look good for the age (17 years) and should be good for a while. I had questions about rebates for heat pumps and he had answers about rebates, rough costs and advantages of the new heat pumps. He reiterated that we didn't need to change out our current equipment but if we feel it's important for environmental reasons there are good options. We'll definitely be using them going forward, and have a fall furnace checkup scheduled.

Last cooling season he…read moresaid the outside unit was near the end of its life, the unit was in the house when purchased. It''s a rental when it dies, we'll replace it. On the first cold day this winter he claims the heater is all rusted out in the exchanger and has to be replaced, along with the entire system because a new heater can't work with an old air conditioner. Our neighbor suggested we call their guy. He's been in business for 30 years. Needless to say, the heater was not rusted he showed me the unit was very dirty, the fan motor and wheel were clogged with dirt and there were two dead birds in the chimney. The outside air conditioner was only 10 years old. I'm convinced SK had never done anything other than collect their fee and try to sell stuff we didn't want or need.

My 80+…read moreyear old MIL and long time customer had her AC (which was replaced w/Essig a little over a year prior) go out during the extreme heat earlier this summer. The parts had to be ordered which seemed to take a long time, then once they finally came back they had the wrong part resulting in another weeks long delay. She had just sold the home and wanting to make sure it was in working order for the new owner, and she went to great lengths to get it fixed prior to closing. Even though the system/parts were under warranty, they charged her almost $2,000 for labor to fix a one year old system! Then, the day AFTER closing, the system went out again for the new owner, and instead of guaranteeing the work wanted to charge them another $2,000 for a separate fix. The new owner decided to get a whole new system with a different provider. Several weeks of stress and lots of money spent by both parties with a trip to the hospital thrown in bc my MIL was so hot and dehydrated without her AC...so no, do NOT recommend Essig!
