Our former oil company (a larger company that bought our previous local provider,) gave us a very high quote with no options. We called X-Press Energy and the next day, Rob came by. Our tank, being in the basement was a tricky install. When their technicians arrived, they were able to make the necessary adjustments, install the new tank and remove the old tank all in one day. They were on time, checked out the AC, added coolant and then took a quick peek at the furnace. They said both look good for the age (17 years) and should be good for a while. I had questions about rebates for heat pumps and he had answers about rebates, rough costs and advantages of the new heat pumps. He reiterated that we didn't need to change out our current equipment but if we feel it's important for environmental reasons there are good options. We'll definitely be using them going forward, and have a fall furnace checkup scheduled.

On the first cold day this winter he claims the heater is all rusted out in the exchanger and has to be replaced, along with the entire system because a new heater can't work with an old air conditioner. Our neighbor suggested we call their guy. He's been in business for 30 years. Needless to say, the heater was not rusted he showed me the unit was very dirty, the fan motor and wheel were clogged with dirt and there were two dead birds in the chimney. The outside air conditioner was only 10 years old. I'm convinced SK had never done anything other than collect their fee and try to sell stuff we didn't want or need.
