I arrived at the landfill yesterday morning, where I paid $38 to drop off exercise machine. The guy who I paid reassured me that there would be traffic directors who would guide me to the proper self drop off area as I only had my car and I do not own a commercial vehicle. On the mile drive on the bumpy dirt road with multiple routes, there were no traffic directors to be seen and only relied on the semi truck in front of me. I arrived in an area where the commercial vehicles were and I had no idea where to go. I got out and was getting ready to dump my machine when a garbage disposal worker asked me what I was doing and was kind, respectful, and helpful. He guided me to the right place and told me where I was at was a major safety hazard for myself. On my way to the designated drop off area, I finally saw a traffic director, and he was polite and confirmed where the designated drop off area was. I almost got lost on my way out, but I figured it out. There seriously needs to be more traffic directors at the designated checkpoint towers to avoid confusion and to maintain the safety of everybody. I'm disappointed. read more

We have been waiting for 3 days for them to pick up a recycle bin!!! The problem as I see it all of their customer service representatives work from the luxury of their own homes since covid. WM consistently shows pics of my bins & removal, but they are NOT mine! They are my neighbors. I rarely generate enough trash to put anything out weekly & even then it's 4 to 6 weeks between pick ups. Very High Price for service received. Taxi or Uber to dump would be cheaper. read more

A really great way to spend an hour! Take the complimentary bus tour around the entire landfill and learn about where and how our trash is being stored. It's perfect for adults and kids. When I joined my niece's class on this landfill field trip, I really didn't know what to expect. First off, I wasn't expecting it to be so comfortable - the bus is spotless, tinted, with cloth-covered seats & A/C flowing. There wasn't even one bad smell to go along with the trash ambiance, another pleasant surprise! Our awesome tour guide (I didn't catch her name but she's been working there for 20 years!) was very friendly and knowledgeable, and answered each and every question as our bus winded through the landfill canyon. The landfill is surprisingly clean! I know that sounds crazy, but the whole site is really well organized and surrounded by the beautiful rolling mountains of a wildlife preserve. The tour is very informative, and your guide will explain how our trash is separated, stored, and sometimes reused - all while still protecting the area's native species and ground water. The tour is a wonderful way to learn about their green initiative, as well as how the land will be repurposed in the future. The kids had a great time - seeing all the trucks, workers, learning about recycling and how to reduce waste... It was a great hour. We even got a little falcon show at the end of the tour - those birds are amazing! read more

WM picked up all the trash containers on my street, except mine. Called to get the truck a block away to come back and pick it up. Customer service has me on and off hold for 25 minutes. Their solution- have me call my HOA and have them reschedule a pick up. Was told the truck in the area can't be reached to come back and do the job they are paid to do. When I asked why am I being put out to reschedule delivery there was silence in the phone... then told, again, to contact the HOA. I asked how they feel they did with this situation .... nothing but silence. Company/customer service SUCKS. Go to the competition, you won't regret it. Be very careful with waste management, they love to steal your money. I have been putting my trash cans out every morning on service day at 8 am and it hasn't been a problem in 6 months. Today I saw the garbage truck already came before 7 am! I put my trash cans out and notified them of missed pickup. They charged me to come back and pickup the bin. Come one guys, really? Until this last move, I've always had a positive experience w/ WM. I cannot say that anymore. I signed up for service again w/ WM after my last move about a week and a half ago. They said the earliest they could have waste containers to my house was in 7 days. 7 days later and a weeks worth of trash after a move, I still have yet to receive the waste containers. I called the following Monday hoping the containers would be delivered that day. They were not. It is now Tuesday and I'm not all that sanguine that I will be receiving my waste containers today. Number of questions. 1. Why even take the containers at all from the house after people move out? The next occupant has no choice but to sign up since WM is the only refuse removal in the city. 2. After missing the initial drop off why not make the extra effort to get containers to the resident immediately. If my containers are not delivered today, I have half a mind to take the immense amount of trash in my garage and drop it off in front of my WM's local office. Follow up: After calling them today, they said they had been delivered yesterday. I assured them they were not and then they said that they'd be delivered tomorrow which is Wednesday. I talked to a supervisor named Leslie who told me they do not have inventory to deliver today. So either I was being lied to previously, or Leslie is lying to me now. Just moved to Simi Valley and am forced to use Waste Management as there is no other service in the area. In a time period where EVERYONE orders on line and has boxes sent to their home I've been told that Waste Management will not allow you to break the boxes down and put them in your bin. You must put them in a bundle with twine and then arrange for a pick up. This is amazingly inconvenient! It's ridiculous that people have to hold on to their cardboard boxes until or schedule a pick up every week...and the only way to schedule is by calling or doing an online chat. It's not even made simply. It seems to me that they are having us do the work so they don't have to and then making more money by recycling the goods. Safe to say I'm not pleased so far. read more

I really received excellent service from four different agents I spoke to to reserve a dumpster. Javier (I believe was one of them) and I didn't get the names of the rest but everyone on the phone was so insanely helpful. These negative reviews are pretty surprising to me - I didn't have any negative experience with WM. Am I seriously reviewing a landfill? I sure am! I came here for two reasons: 1. Dump hundreds of boxes from my home remodel. 2. I took my kids with me so they can see what kind of damage humanity is doing to the planet. Lets go through #1 first: They have confusing rules on waiting in line to enter. Semi-trucks go on a scale, and regular vehicles park to the side, you get out to see the cashier, pay $40 and then proceed to the dump site. There was a Semi truck parked waiting his turn to get on a scale so I went around him and parked to the side where I am supposed to. I walk up to the cashier and a woman comes out and scolds me, like I'm her teenage son coming home late with the scent of alcohol on my breath, about how I just performed a dangerous maneuver and could of got hurt and "..don't ever do that again!". At first I was shocked and then I realized she was actually yelling at me. I replied that there was a truck on a scale and this truck had no where to go, so I proceeded to pass with caution. I didn't see any danger. Nevertheless, she continued her rant. I paid my $40 and continued. It's what you would expect from a dump site. Trash sorted into different piles, based on trash type. Think of those 3 different trash containers at your house. That is how the dump site is organized. I won't go into the details about what is at the site or how it smelled since I believe you probably have an idea and don't care much that I elaborate on this part! Lets discuss #2: Every parent should take their kids to a landfill. We need to expose their influential minds with the truth. The truth about how ineffecient humans are in the disposal of our trash. We are literally destroying the earth with garbage, then covering it with dirt making it look like a natural mountain with gas pipes sticking out releasing gas into the atmosphere from the decaying garbage that lay underneath. Ever since Waste Management lost the contract for the city if Thousand Oaks it has been relentless in sending residents large colorful mailings degrading the service of Athens trash co. We have only had 1 trash pickup from Athens and no time to have a complaint about them. I have had lots of problems with WM from their truck knocking down a large tree branch and hitting our car and taking no responsibility to not picking up trash on several occasions and needing repeated calls. I went to the landfill to dispose of some branches from my oak tree in my front yard. I don't have a truck, I have an SUV that i use to tow my Motorcycle trailer that's over 8' long. Even though I had a light load to drop off I was charged $70 while trucks piled a mile high of tree trunks only get charged $45. My load was a fraction of two trucks I saw dropping off on both sides of me. Doesn't seem fair. You would think that you would be charged on your load, not by your vehicle, I mean why did they weigh my truck and trailer then? Oh, and motorcycle tires are $11 to recycle? Called the number on my bin (call center) , and it took her a few minutes (?) to find out where I should take it. The address she gave was the landfill. Landfill said,"We don't take those here. Depending on the drivers mood, they refuse to pick up recycle, or the trash, which is a paid service. Since the covid many more cars around, they get very picky with what they will and won't do. Terrible customer service by the trash and recycle driver. The guy who picks up the green can is the ONLY one who is pleasant. Waste Management is a class company, but they do have some issues that they need to review. WM is pressing to raise your fees and lower their costs. Each issue is about profit. Problem #1: In my case they put me on paperless billing, which I never subscribed to, and they stopped picking up trash when it was not paid. That was corrected IMMEDIATELY by me, and it was alot of work to get them back out. Problem #2: They send out a letter ADVISING (not asking) they are going to have a 7.21 to 18.11% price increase. This is a GIGANTIC increase and apparetly approved by our local city and county - totally ridicuous. Waste management provided a perfect example of how NOT to act when you lose a city contract for service. My experience with them during the last couple of months of their service coverage was as bad as I could have imagined, which was somewhat of a surprise since they have provided good service in the past. The week before Thanksgiving someone stole my blue trash container when it was out for pick up. I called WM immediately to ask for a replacement since we were going to definitely need our trash container following Thanksgiving. I was told that there would be a replacement prior to next pick up...never happened. Called a second time and now was told there was a shortage of containers (no doubt due to the ending of their contract) and I should just use our recycle bin for our trash, which is what I was forced to due for the rest of the year. The final insult was when WM did not pick up the green (lawn waste) bin on their final day of service (12/31/21). We all received an email saying they would pick up this bin on Monday (1/3/22). No surprise...no pick-up on Monday. I even called that afternoon to confirm pick up and was assured by the rep the pick-up would occur that day by no later than 8pm. My still full green bin is currently sitting out in front of my house never to see another waste management truck. We are now being serviced by ATHEN SERVICES, and so far, they have been incredibly responsive and reliable. Waste management has shown their true colors as a classless company. read more

Worst customer service ever! I keep trying to call them to ask about their $20 "Service Resumption fee" that appears on my bill (even though my service was never suspended in reality-- trash was always picked up). Every time I call the operator says the supervisor is in a meeting and "will call me back" And I never get a return phone call. Got a merry xmas present 1`2/24/2013. My trash was not picked up on this scheduled day(my recycle was and so were my grass clippings). Instead they left a tag on my trash can for me to call the office. When I left a message for them they called me back and told me that I owed two months of trash collection fees. I claim that I never received my invoice in the mail. They claim they sent out my invoice. I asked them why did they not contact me via phone to let me know? Dah...they said they tried to. I have been a customer for more than 10 years! Why didn't they give me a chance to pay the money by leaving the late notice but still collecting my trash. (they left the late notice but never emptied the garbage. Now I am stuck with an overburdened trash can for the holiday season. This is what happens when a company has a monopoly on trash collection in the City. Yes I got charged a $20 late fee as well.
