FLOODING GETTING WORSE IN AISLE10 Yesterday Jacob from the rental office on the property called me to tell me the flooding from the roof leak was worse than before the supposed repairs - he said he had been up on a ladder and saw the water going into my unit. I was freaking out and drove out to Westlake in heavy traffic from the valley right away. I called the "corporate" number I had been give the week prior and spoke with a guy I couldn't understand very well, again, who put me on hold for almost 20 minutes after I demanded to speak to a supervisor. A woman got on and told me she was some sort of situation/escalation specialist, but that only meant she said sorry a few times and agreed to ask some guy named Mr. Buckley (?) for a refund for the month of July, which I requested. She told me 'he might reach out today, but it's more likely he'll call tomorrow". I asked for his phone number because at this point, I don't believe anything these people tell me. Today, July 15th, having not heard a peep from Mr.Buckley all morning, I sent a long text message, complete with photos and videos. It was just before noon. I drove out to the unit shortly after contacting Mr. Buckley and to my horror saw that the water is still coming down from the ceiling steadily. I am exhausted. The temperature outside (according to my car/thermostat) was at 105 out there. It's humid inside the facility, even with the AC on, and there are more buckets/ trash can filling with water on the ground and on top of the units. I sent Mr. Buckley videos from today's visit. Still no call. I'm not sure if this guy exists. I feel like I've been lied to - again. No updates from the useless district manager, Timothy or the property manager, Aaron. Jacob has been the only person to reach out to me. Ive read similar reviews here on Yelp, regarding the horrible disconnect/disregard by upper management and "district" management - about the lies regarding credits and refunds. It's all true. No one cares, no preventive measures, no regard for the time, the energy, the constant driving back and forth in the current biblical weather. It's a clean facility and I have no complaints about that aspect of the business. It's really how they do business that I take issue with. They like to sign you up at an advertised rate and raise the rent by 40-50% with no forewarning. It's utterly unreasonable and sleazy. The first time they did it, I spoke with the manager who agreed (not to refund the excess of what had been auto-paying but to) return the rate to what was initially agreed, for a period of three months. I ended up clearing many things out of the unit and decided that I would rent a smaller space from them, after doing so, rather than simply moving the items to one of the many other fine options in the area. I was charged the agreed rent for two months and now see that on the third month my payment jumped by more than 50%. It's not a lot of money, but it's a dishonest way to do business. I'll be moving my things this time and definitely don't recommend them, just based on principle. read more

Complete incompetence from the staff at the location to the "District Manager" They will desperately try to get you to sign up for auto pay at which point they will continue to raise your rate again and again every few months. If you say anything they will promise you a credit which never comes. Month after month they told they would give me a credit. Finally I moved out. As soon as I paid my bill they emailed me to tell me I have a small credit for "next month" Total trash people, every single one will lie to your face. Literally store ANYWHERE else. Very upset at this place, we rented a unit here for 60 days, hired movers to close out the unit before the next month starts and they said we had to pay the entire month because it goes from the 1st as a renewal. We asked the gentleman working where on the contract does it say that and he doesn't know. May I just say that the public storage in Thousand Oaks on Townsgate Road in Westlake Village has an amazing staff there to be more specific Nelson And Aaron both were very helpful to all my questions that I had. They were very knowledgeable and patient with me and there answers and responses to my questions were very well put together and they maid me feel like I was a valued person instead of just some problem or someone walking in and bothering them which unfortunately in most cases that's how most people treat customers these days and that is sad that a lot of customer service jobs that how we are being treated these day. But not hear and not with these two I highly recommend this place great service great people and a very positive environment which you will notice as soon as you walk in the door. While this facility has nice infrastructure, the staff were utterly unprofessional and possibly intoxicated when I stopped by to inquire about prices. In 25 years of renting storage units, this was undoubtedly the most bizarre experience I have ever had. The staff were unable to answer basic questions about the unit prices and insisted on giving a tour of their warehouse. They wasted about 20 minutes of my time rambling incoherently, which was kind of amusing in an odd way, but at no point did I remotely consider them to be reliable or trustworthy. After 5 months of storage Public Storage increased my rate 68% for a 10x10 unit. The fine print in their contract gives them the option to raise your rent as high as they want and as often as they want so long as they give you a 30 day notice. I could understand a reasonable rate increase annually but a 68% insurance after only 5 months should be criminal. Another problem I have with this Public Storage location is the hours you have to access your unit. On Saturday for example, you only have from 9:30 to 5, but if you expect to use one of the complementary flatbed carts to bring your items from the loading dock to your unit, you have to stop at the office, give them your drivers license, and then they give you a key to unlock it. This is a real inconvenience and time waster. Compared to the prices and service hours of other storage companies, Public Storage is at the bottom. read more

BEWARE! During the course of 3 months (summer 2020) the ownership here broke a water valve and flooded the building (including several units), assigned new spaces only to move them, and then mandated a forced-move for even more demolition/construction. So I left, too many problems here. Lots of upcoming construction here (September 2020) to renovate the building. With more shifting units and the potential of more floods and construction dust/problems in the process, I decided to go elsewhere. I rented a unit at this location using their online service, got a text later that same day saying my unit was ready! I show up the next day and already, my gate code is not working. I happen to run into Tammy after some other nice tenants helped me gain access. I let her know my code was not working, we tried together for a few minutes on the keypad with no success. We went back to the main office, she confirmed my unit information and reset my code, it now worked. I finally make it to my unit the unit is filled to the brim with stuff! Now I didn't go into an uproar at that moment because I was actually shocked at what I saw, I knew Tammy was not going to be available in the office again because she told me she'd be gone for an hour or so after she fixed my code, and lastly it's not that unusual for storage units to come "as is". I got to work sorting the mess just to make room for the stuff I had already brought with me. After finally reorganizing, sweating, and making room for the stuff I brought, some guy shows up saying he bought the unit on an auction and they gave him till end of day to clear it when it was supposed to be cleared 1-2 days prior, but they allowed him an extension to the day my rental began AND the day AFTER I received the "your unit is ready!" text!!!!! Guy asked me to go to the office with him as a witness that his auction was tampered with and also to confront the fact that as of today that unit was sign, sealed, delivered in my name with that stuff! Of course I agreed because we both got screwed! Before I left I asked Tammy if she's sure I can move my things the following day since he had to be out by end of day and that I shouldn't be charged for this unit for this specific day because they rented me a unit that was not truly available. She says she'll reach out to her boss and give me a call. I say sounds good, thank you. I head home with a car full of stuff that I was unable to store. 15-20min later Tammy calls me and asks me go back to the office so she can "explain" and that she was out looking for me...first of all why would I still be lingering around when I can't even store my stuff AND you said you would give me a call?! I was unavailable for the remainder of the day to come all the way back and she did not like that. HUGE attitude shift, she didn't like that I would not drive back. She kept asking me to come back almost begging so she could "explain", which really caught me off guard because why can't you just give me an update on the phone like you said you would? I again tell her I can't and ask if she was able to resolve my move-in date and she got very defensive. She began yelling at me and becoming accusatory like "why would you go to the unit?! It's not yours!" Well according to all of my documents it is my unit. I told her I understood if there was a computer glitch and i was willing to wait to move my stuff in because I just wanted it resolved. I asked her why she was being very rude and problematic and pointed out that she was helpful and keen on finding a solution when I was still at the facility when we all confronted the situation. She ended with saying she's going to give me another unit, so naturally I ask if it has the same exact price & amenities as the one I originally signed for and she refused and then said she's going to transfer my rental to another location. Huh?! Then she hung up on me as I was still asking questions as she was making me more and more confused the more she yelled. I called back and left two voicemails for Jay, who I'm assuming is a manager, first one letting him know my experience and after further thought I left a second voicemail requesting that my public storage account all together be voided as I don't trust my personal belongings to be left in a facility with a person like that or company that's capable of giving someone access to another tenants belongings without verifying the units they are renting are accurate and available. I found a new storage company same day, they were great when I told them the experience I had. Great price, location, and even gave me one month FREE! And confirmed that they do escort new tenants to their units to ensure they don't run into an issue like Public Space. Tammy left a very sickening taste in my mouth. It's not a good look having a reactive employee as part of your operations. I hope Tammy gets trained on customer service and learns resolution based responses. You don't blow up like a toddler and hang up on people because a customer doesn't have the time to go back into traffic so she can say the same words you can say over the phone. I stored my things here for a year without any issues. It is clean and very easy access. There are plenty of carts available and the elevators are very large. The manager Jay is exceptional and goes above and beyond to help the clients. I am very happy with my experience and especially with all my interactions with Jay. The worst storage experience I have ever had. I would never recommend this location to anyone. While I like some of the staff. The property manager here is horrible. The storage itself is hard to navigate as other reviewers have pointed out. The gate constantly has issues. CONSTANTLY. Almost every single time we've been here it has been nearly inaccessible or there was some kind of problem. I've been late to so many appointments, meetings and just in general had my schedule ruined because of the extra time I've had to spend dealing with this locations problems. People fighting over the locked carts because of the ID policy that this location has where you have to give your ID in order to get a small cart unlocked. And then make sure you lock the cart. Bring the key back or else you won't get your ID. Every single customer I've met at this location has just hated this particular location. I wish I had rented elsewhere. The rate was good, but it's not worth the hassle. Spend a little bit more and get yourself something from ExtraSpace storage. Or get a unit at another location. Lastly, even though the location is in a good area. The characters that come here make you worry about storing your items here. And reading a previous review about a pipe bursting and their storage getting flooded?! Are you serious? How is that even ok. I hope that client got compensated, but certain items are priceless. Even with insurance. You can't put a price on family heirlooms, photos or valuable documents. read more

They defend raising my rate literally by 25% just after my first 5 months by saying it's in the contract they can raise the rates at any time for any amount! Shame on them, especially in an economy where so many are struggling financially and certainly many of the spaces being rented are individuals that have fallen on hard times! I totally get they have to run a business, but raising rents like this because they know they can get it because the cost and hassle moving to another facility is what drives this decision taking advantage of a well crafted business model. This facility is like a rabbit warren, very difficult to navigate and find your unit. Can't drive up and use touch pad so you must get out of car both coming and going. Shady rental practices as well. Stay far far away! After securing space with a partnered site, we decided to drop by to see what the units were like and confirm our reservation. We were told nothing was guaranteed thru their partnered site and that we should rent today as in 6 wks later when we needed a unit, one might not be available. So they did this song and dance about first month is free.... to get us to rent right there and then, even though we did not need a unit for a few wks. A few wks later we went to move in but there was construction going on and we were unable to take a short route to unit. We also were told that rents would not increase. Fast Forward... 5 months as renters, paying ahead and on time and they are already raising the rent by 27 1/2 % . Under the guise of it being our 6 th month and they can increase rents anytime, as per lease. WOW. not what we were told when we moved in. Jay even went so far as to say call us and we can get you locked into another special rate. I contacted Jay asked about current deals and he said we had one. I then called corporate office and said we would be moving because of rent increase and asked how they prorated rent is we moved out early since we had paid ahead. Low and behold we were told that they do not prorate rents. NO MONEY BACK even if you move out on the 2 nd of the month. This is not our first rodeo with storage---Never have we had a company who did not have a 10 day grace period for move outs. PUBLIC STORAGE rips you off coming and going. We now are paying a double months rent for storage since they do not refund even if you move out and are paid ahead thru entire month. Epic fail and corporate office says F up essentially. MIght be clean , might be well lit, but their rental practice and move out are shady, underhanded and keeping money for something you are not using seems good for their bottom line but screws their customers. read more

This review is for Tammy alone... While I have my issues with the price I pay for the unit (which has gone up 80% from when I first got it)... that's besides the point. I had come in because I lost my keys, and she told me that I can wait for their guy to do it (which could be days or a week, there was no way to give me a ballpark estimate, that's fine), or I can call a locksmith. I called around and the only place who answered me showed up 25 mins later. He quoted me $150 which was absurd but I didn't have much other choice. It took him nearly 20 mins... which Tammy had cut in and asked him how long it takes him, which he answered 30 minutes. She informed him that it takes their guy two minutes or less, so she thinks he should give me a discount. I was shocked that she stood up for me, but I was so thankful. I knew this company was sketchy just by the tools they brought (I could have done it myself if I knew that's all it took). We called the locksmith company and they hung up on us when we tried to explain. The guy called his boss and the boss was yelling at Tammy through the phone. The guy was saying she was being rude, which I cut in and said she wasn't being rude, she was standing up for me, advocating for me, and I appreciate her. I told him he was definitely overcharging me but I didn't have a choice. I paid him so he could leave. Tammy was amazing and I'm so glad she was there with me. Thank you Tammy!!! read more

On top of that the access is challenging. Access codes timeout quickly, elevators don't work well, carts are locked up and you need to call front office to get them unlocked.
