This is a somewhat unusual place. It is a Chinese restaurant that also serves Japanese sushi. The interior is bland and with tables that are marginally comfortable. The service was outstanding. The server was very fun throughout the experience. We were a party of four. We ordered various sushi. The sushi was good, but not outstanding. The serving sizes were somewhat small, but the price was relatively high. Regardless, we enjoyed the experience, but would pause before returning because of the cost. read more

Karaoke selection was too small and the employees were discourteous. I can't recommend visiting this place. The doorman was the only employee around and was terribly unhelpful. He would not give basic direction to the room for my karaoke. He wouldn't speak. The place has three floors. So I walked up and down trying to find my room. It was right behind where the doorman was sitting, Room 1 by the bar. It was right where I entered. A woman in my party said she walked the building too after not getting directions. I'm more appalled in retrospect. It put me in a terrible mood. Not the way to start an evening of entertainment. My group of 8 rented karaoke room 1. The room was right off of the bar and a lot of noise from the bar came in all night. Other karaoke places made you feel like you were in your own space. I think of this as a coworker activity. I wouldn't take my coworkers. The song selection was small and the system was hard to navigate. They at least had Backstreet Boys. I do admit that the food was tasty, but after taking our order, it took approximately 40 minutes for our food to arrive. The portions were extremely small and I had to pay an additional $2 for brown rice. I had the teriyaki salmon, a small amount of asparagus, and a very tiny dollop of brown rice. After eating, I was still hungry but if I wanted more rice, there was another $2 charge for brown rice if I wanted another serving. I didn't want to spend even more money to receive another tiny dollop of brown rice. I guess if you're not hungry and if you're not in a hurry to get back to work or wherever, then this restaurant will work for you. As for me, I'm not going back. read more

I've never written a review on yelp or even signed up for an account, but I figured I would share my feedback for the person considering placing an order for delivery this evening. I ordered this evening and was told to expect my delivery in 40 minutes. At one hour, I decided to call Wok and Roll and check in to make sure everything was ok. The operator rudely told me to continue waiting as my food was sent out for delivery and should be there in just a couple of minutes. 15 minutes later I called back and was told I had to wait an additional 15-20 minutes for my food to arrive. I was irked, but agreed. After a full 95 minutes, my food arrived cold and horrible. Don't waste your time on this place. Order from anywhere else - truly! I've learned my lesson and will never, EVER spend any money at this restaurant again. read more

Wok and Roll is great. I ordered online for delivery at literally the last minute (12:30am) on a Saturday night after a long day of traveling. EAT24 ordering was painless as usual, and they also gave me an accurate delivery time estimate with no delivery fee (so good). I ordered a spicy sushi combo platter and an order of vegetable udon noodle soup. Food came right on time and the delivery guy called me when he was outside, he also came to the door which was a pleasant surprise. Sushi was very tasty with the nori on the outside and the udon was good as well. Nice thick noodles, broth wasn't too salty and had a nice variety of steamed veggies on top. The only thing I missed out on was picking my side for my sushi platter. They gave me an order of miso soup-- would've rather had a side salad but I suppose I just missed that button/option ordering so last minute. Overall this place hits the spot with the asian fare with Japanese and Chinese all in one. Next time I'll be sure to order a Chinese dish too. Can't beat delivery without a fee! This place is horrible....first me and my woman come in and get seated, the lady is using this fake nice persona to get us to give her a huge tip in the end....the food came out too fast, like super fast almost as if it was warmed up or re-heated, I ordered Singapore noodles and she got some fish and it tasted horrible both our food was super salty my noodles was extremely dry and they look like old noodles, the forks was dirty and had stains on them, towards the end of getting the check the lady's stared at us the whole time we was writing the check from across the room like a hawk then came over and looked at our receipt and said we didn't give her a big enough tip, her true self was reveled at that moment and she became the mean disgusting person she was, she argued with my woman over a bigger tip, but it was a gratuity charge on our receipt and she wanted a huge tip also, so it was the price of the food, the tax, the tip, and something called a food tax (something they made up) which was the gratuity charge we was also the only customers there and for some reason it's something weird going on in the back......oh and also she started talking about us in her langue and was yelling, people go out there way to spend there money at your establishment and that's of you treat them? read more

Impressively poor service. 1. Misquoted price over the phone. 2. Tried to pass off brown soda water for ginger ale. 3. Did not know how to change ginger ale syrup. 4. Did not know syrup was involved in the soda gun process. 5. Barely showed us how to use an unintuitive karaoke system. 6. Wasted 30 min trying to get system to work. 7. Service button was just for show. They never came when we called. 8. Both microphones ran out of batteries in the first 20 min of use. 9. Cut off karaoke 6 min early. 10. Robbed us of the joy of singing final song happily (we were all pissed by the time they reactivated system). 11. We asked for a copy of a receipt and they told us we needed to leave. If I could give this place zero starts I would. I really wanted to like this place for karaoke but I would not recommend it to anyone. They overcharge for everything ($5 for a cup of water) and you can definitely find other karaoke places for cheaper than $35/hr. I barely leave reviews on Yelp but this time I think I have to say sth to make people aware how terrible service this place has, regarding it's karaoke. During our one hour stay there the whole karaoke system was down for at least three times (for all the rooms). As a result, we had to spend a lot time re-order all the songs because we lost the previously ordered songs due to each time system crush. There was not an single apology from them! That's the most unbelievable part! Their touch screen reacts really slow btw. Now the most dramatic part comes, they asked us to leave after an hour because the room was reserved to other ppl, not considering the approximately 20mins we lost in system crush and reordering songs. When we put forward that they should not charge us the same rate, the guy sit at the bar counter said sth like "how much you want me to credit to you? Credit the whole hour to you?" (Sounds like he is the boss) With very unpleasant and arrogant voice. Then I even overheard the bartender judged us to other ppl at a low voice. As the only karaoke place (as far as I know) in Chinatown, they should have dedicated in providing an enjoyable service to show ppl who live in America how Asian karaoke looks like. Horrible! The waitress would not describe menu items to us and knew nothing about the menu, we received food that was not what the menu described, had to ask for my beer 4 times and they were not the slightest bit busy. When i asked to speak to the manager, she came over and stood there until we said something. On top of all of that our server and three other servers stood behind the manager and stared at us while we were trying to talk to her. Very innapropriate if you ask me and on top of all of this the manager did nothing for us. Food was good. Portion sizes were large enough to share. Restroom needed a good cleaning. The problem occurred when we were paying our check. It was a business trip so we paid with a company credit card. You cannot leave a tip on a company card, so we left a cash tip. 25% tip for mediocre service. Our waitress came to our table and screamed at us, "I NO DO GOOD JOB!?" "YOU LEAVE ME NO TIP" "WHAT I DO WRONG"?? After showing her the cash tip we left, she proceeds to tell us to leave. As a good bay area Californian, I do enjoy my sushi, but have grown somewhat picky about it. I will confess that I am usually into some "fancier" rolls that have a bit of sauce on them. Having been in DC for nearly two weeks without having my usual weekly (or bi-weekly) sushi, my friend (also from CA) and I decided to venture out to this place in Chinatown. I ordered one more basic roll, perhaps it was the avocado eel roll or something and then another that was more expensive and elaborate (rainbow roll perhaps). I was really excited to have some good sushi! The rolls came and looked fine, but when I tasted the rainbow roll (or whatever it was) it was terrible and tasted as I'd imagine dead cat to taste. It was the most disgusting sushi I ever tried. My friend also tried it and we determined something was wrong with it. When we told them though, they did take it back and off the bill and eventually apologized, so that was cool of them. My other roll was fine and the rice tasted fresh, but I guess I am too traumatized to try the more elaborate rolls here now! Beware! read more

Scrumptious... my family and I enjoyed a lunch today at this restaurant. All three of us found our dishes to be very good Chinese food. All dishes were encompassed by tasty sauces and cooked well. My only gripe was that the lunch special did not include any sides without paying a dollar... they are usually included at Chinese restaurants, and I didn't understand think it was right to charge $2 extra for brown rice instead of white. Wok and Roll is great for some things, not so great for other things. The miso soup and sashimi are excellent, as are some of the specialty rolls, but the spicy rolls are not made well and some of the highly freshness dependent options (ikura, uni, scallop) are sometimes not so good. I come here very often and they delivery very late which is fantastic. The atmosphere for eating in is nothing special but entirely satisfactory for an inexpensive late night chinatown stop. Cocktails and sake are also good. I would recommend the resturant as a whole and think that its good for the price - just don't expect amazing quality. read more

I came here because I was really craving sushi. Although the food was just ok, the service was horrible and very disappointing. They don't believe in true customer service or maybe my money wasn't green enough. I have never been at a restaurant where the waitress starts an argument with the customer. Whole peking duck for $29.50 was not good. The portion was very small compared to the other Chinese restaurant located on the side (China Express). The dish came with four pancakes per person for two and really little green onions. They gave a load of hoisin sauce in which you don't even need that much. How cheap is that. Why don't they save the hoisin sauce and give more green onions for a change. The service was bleh... Know the menu before you go. They tend to rush for you to order. It was my first visit and I needed a some time to look over their menu and sushi. Three different waitresses came to my table to take my order in a two minute timeframe after one another in a row. Be warned about the sushi -- it has gone WAY downhill. They must have a new supplier and/or a new sushi chef, because the last couple of times I've ordered (over the last three months or so), the sushi has literally been inedible. Absolutely terrible service. It was clear we were treated differently than other customers. We waited for about 10 minutes before we were even served water or given extra plates. I had to ask multiple times for water before someone even cared. My other friends who came in after us were quickly served and their foods were piping hot. Ours came out like it was forgotten for a while and then someone just maybe decided to serve it just because he or she had to. We were constantly stared down. They even chased my friend for the highest percentage of tip too and they don't deserve jack. We're not dumb; basic courtesy can easily earn you a good tip. Working in the food industry myself, I know how important tipping is and I often tip very well. Takes extremely a lot to get me to this point. This place is frequented by DOJ attorneys and is also the location where the conspiracy to assassinate Lincoln, his VP, and secretary of state was plotted. This is a good place to go for happy hour. Just don't try to order in. The delivery person was surly and belligerent about coming up to my 5th floor apartment. This is my second time getting carry out from Wok and Roll and unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. When I went the first time a few weeks ago I ordered the szechuan chicken lunch special. It was quite good, so I decided to try their hunan chicken today. First, I requested it spicy and it was not spicy at all. If you're looking for a great time with friends, family or colleagues then Wok and Roll is the place to go. You can sing (or enjoy watching others with better talent sing), have really good food and some drinks. I've spent several evenings there doing just that. The staff is hardworking and you'll find them busting-their-butts to address the needs of customers arriving, paying to leave, and ordering food and drinks in private rooms and in the bar areas. Those are signs of a good and popular place. But if you're looking to quibble, try going elsewhere or buy an in-home karaoke machine so that you don't bring down the good time that others are having. Some people, including those who have left whiny messages here on Yelp, look to be cheap and or get freebies by creating fake problems or ignoring basic house rules. Please spare everyone - your fellow customers, the employees, the rest of your group and, frankly, yourself - the unnecessary drama by applying manners and understanding the rules (like paying for what you've ordered/consumed; not bringing outside food and drinks (vodka sure does look like water); paying attention when being told how to operate the music video screen; or showing your ID when asked. I can go on and on, but you get the gist.
