The Pad Thai with shrimp was rich and satisfying, topped with crushed peanuts and fresh greens. The noodles were perfectly cooked and had that classic sweet and savory flavor. Another favorite was the crispy beef with onions and scallions. The beef had a nice crunch and was coated in a flavorful sauce that paired really well with the vegetables. It's tucked away off the main Topanga Canyon Blvd., quiet, clean, and feels super safe. It's the kind of place where you can stroll around after dinner, with great shops like Sur La Table, cute boutiques, and even a sweet little bookstore. It really makes the whole night feel like an outing instead of just grabbing food. Now the food... delicious! Ray ordered the Saskatchewan Chicken, and he raved about it. I tasted it too -- really flavorful and cooked perfectly. I went with the Shishito Peppers in soy sauce, which were amazing. We also shared the steamed wontons with sesame soy, and of course, the garlic wings -- always a solid choice there. The portions are generous, which makes it easy to do what we love: order a few dishes and share everything family-style. For drinks, we planned on trying a plum-flavored sake, but they were sold out, so we went with a bottle of Kikusui Cold Sake, and it was excellent. Our server, Abby, was fantastic -- super nice, very attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed the whole time. It's always nice when someone genuinely cares about the experience you're having, and he definitely did. We came here to celebrate a birthday and arrived with enough time to enjoy a nice dinner. Our appetizers were served, but after waiting an unreasonable amount of time, our entrées never arrived. Eventually, our waiter informed us that our ticket had been lost and, because of the mistake, the kitchen had already closed. What made the situation even worse was the complete lack of accountability. No manager came to our table to apologize or address the issue. After spending our evening waiting for food that was never prepared, we were only offered a small discount instead of having the meal properly comped. We left hungry, disappointed, and with a ruined birthday dinner. Mistakes happen, but the way this was handled was unacceptable. The lack of communication, customer service, and management involvement turned what should have been a special celebration into one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. The food was splendid!! We got the vegetable fried rice and the crispy whole fish. The fish came with a sweet and sour sauce that make it extra delicious. The fried rice was some of the best I've had. It was cold out and very busy inside, so we were surprised when we asked if we could move from outside to inside, they accommodated us! Teriyaki chicken is just a grilled chicken and came with a side of sauce and steamed brocoli. Good Teriyaki chicken is supposed to be marinated. Not just grilled. Eel rolls, the presentation is so off. It's a low quality of eels or they served me the bad part. Barely meat mostly the burnt part with bones. Thank goodness the spicy tuna crispy rice is good. Even if you pay for the ambience, not for the food, I could find other better place easily. Also, sticky table and floor. That being said, cleanliness is extremely important in a restaurant, and I think you can judge the overall attention to cleanliness by the state of the restrooms, and the men's restroom was atrocious. Graffiti scratched into the mirrors, busted paper town dispenser, litter all over the floor and it looked like the place hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. You see that and you have to ask yourself, if the bathroom is this jacked up, what does the kitchen look like? On to the food: Horrible. Poor quality chicken that I couldn't even finish. I had high hopes walking in. Aesthetically, the restaurant is beautiful and inviting. The front desk and host were very kind and welcoming. An open kitchen is usually a great feature, but unfortunately, it highlighted some serious concerns. The kitchen staff appears to need much more training, particularly when it comes to hygiene and food safety. I observed multiple instances of cross-contamination--not involving food itself, but sanitation practices. For example, the floors were being mopped and, without changing gloves, staff then handled plates and served them to tables. I also witnessed staff sneezing into their shirts while working on the line, not washing their hands afterward, and then touching raw fish with bare hands. After seeing this, I decided not to order anything further. We had already ordered sushi before noticing these issues, but by the time the food arrived, I had completely lost my appetite. I didn't mention any of this to the host because they were very pleasant, and it's not something they can control. However, this is a serious concern that management should address. A nice Asian fusion restaurant located in the Westfield Village on the corner of Topanga and Victory. They serve a combination of Chinese style entrees and sushi, with a full bar. There is paid parking (with a grace period, check the signs) in the Village structure, as well as lot parking if you are lucky enough to find a spot. The place is cavernous... it's got a very cafeteria feel to it, because it is so open, but that also means it can be a little loud and it is not very intimate. It would be a good place to bring a group. The servers are very attentive and friendly, and the food came out quickly. When we were there (lunch on a Saturday) it wasn't very busy, so no surprise that there wasn't a long wait. The food was good, the teriyaki chicken was excellent, actually it quite exceeded expectations, the chicken was cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and the teriyaki sauce was excellent. We also had the orange chicken, and it was also very good, I would put it in my top 3. You can order a la carte or pay an upcharge to make it a meal with soup, salad, and rice included. My daughter had the sushi and said it was excellent, all around a very pleasant meal. The reason I am only rating 5 stars is that while the dining room was clean, the layout was odd, very open and not cozy, which just didn't seem to fit the food or the mood, also the EDM music didn't help much, but that is just personal taste, I am sure there are those that love it. However the hall leading to the restrooms and the restrooms themselves, were so dingy, dirty, and unkempt that it really brought the entire experience down. I'm very disappointed to share a bitter experience at this restaurant.I invited a friend (someone I'm not very close to) for lunch here, hoping to enjoy a nice evening. Unfortunately, the service turned the whole experience sour. After I paid the check, the server blatantly told me -- in front of my guest -- that I had left too small of a tip. I was shocked by the rudeness. When I calmly asked to speak to the supervisor, instead of apologizing, the supervisor actually supported the server and said we should add more from our own pockets to ensure everyone gets a fair share of tips. I've lived in the U.S. for years and have never encountered anything like this. Tipping is a personal choice -- sometimes people leave $100, other times $10. It's not something that should be demanded or judged publicly, especially in front of others. This was extremely embarrassing and unprofessional. Sadly, this one incident overshadowed the entire dining experience. I will not be returning, and I don't recommend this place to others who value respectful service. read more
