"Simple" and "no frills" are the words that come to mind when describing this establishment. I've been here for both breakfast and dinner. Service was acceptable, but lacking in level of personality or engagement. For me, these characteristics are memorable and would help inspire me to come back. The food was as described on the menu, but equally lacking in pizazz. My Mexican Bowl was lukewarm and my friends' burgers were both well-done, despite only one of them asking for it being this way, and the fries were overcooked. I like crispy, but not to the over-the-top degree to which they were done. It's okay but pricy I've been to this location a few more times since my last review. The last couple of times the place was very busy and getting seating was not possible. During my last visit it was relatively quiet, so I took a seat and went through the menu. My server was very friendly and professional. I took her recommendations and got the churro crepes and peppermint latte. Latte came out quick, same with the crepe. The latte was very sweet, lots of sugar and mint. Coffee flavor was obliterated, and was a bit much for me. Informed my server, offered a drip coffee as a replacement but I opted against. The crepe was going to be a lot of sugar too, so just sent it back. She communicated with her team to watch the syrup pours for future drinks, which is a good proactive move. The churro crepes. Conceptually is a good idea. The cheesecake filling was tasty and a reprieve from the avalanche of caramel syrup and sugar. The churros were warmed up but the server was very honest that they were not made on the spot. Outside of the churro was crunchy and inside was stuffed. The crepe was not warm, so I don't think it was made fresh to order either. When I asked the server, she insisted it was made to order. The price was 21 for the latte and crepe. The price of the crepe was high for the quantity and quality. The latte was reasonable for price, but might want to ask to go light on the syrup. Given the location, it's one of the few breakfast spots around that area. It's not bad, but they do price accordingly for the lack of competition. It's not a trek place, but it's one of the few options around without driving 15 minutes. If you need breakfast in that area, then it works. read more

First time here. Overall loved it there. The inside is comfy and not loud. We were seated right away. When you walk in, you are greeted by not only the staff but a bakery window of delicious looking desserts. The food was delicious. I've reviewed Woke before on their breakfast menu. They just added lunch M-F starting at 11:00am. I decided to give it a try but ordering takeout rather than eating in. I ordered at the counter and service was fast and polite. I ordered a chorizo burrito. It was substantial and served with some tortilla chips with salsa on the side. The burrito was flavorful. I love chorizo but it is messy so be forewarned if wearing white. The burrito includes rice, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato and avocado as well as a protein. I highly recommend. The only thing that would make it even more delicious is if I could add an egg to make it a breakfast burrito! Hint hint.... read more

We only get out to get breakfast as our "date nights" due to family constraints. We have been waiting to try Woke since it opened and we're so excited that it finally was not crowded with no waiting and we were able to check it out. My advice to the owners and wait staff if you don't want a negative review you should treat all your customers equally. The advice I give myself is to make sure I read reviews before I try out a new restaurant. If two people can't sit in the only open booth seat you should make this a rule for everyone. Additionally, if there are no substitutions with an order you really should be a little more inconspicuous when the two people who came after us and were sitting in a booth that we were denied, were able to amend their order but we were not able to do the same. At the very least if you are going to discriminate you should at least not make it so blatantly obvious. We will never return and maybe that is what you were going for after all. read more

The food is amazing and can't get anything else like it anywhere in CT. My husband and I have been here 7 to 8 times, their food has always been warm, beautiful presentation, flavorful, and great price. It's a cozy spot with great staff. The nutella crepes and matcha are my favorites. read more

I am always on the lookout for breakfast places. Driving down Main Street in Coventry Sunday, we noticed a newly opened place - Woke. Decided to come back Monday morning to try it. Wow - what a cute, clean, upscale looking place this is. It is small though - just 5 - 4 person booths & 3 or 4- 2 person tables. It was Monday morning, so we got seated right away. I tried the huevos rancheros (1st time), served with rice & beans. Had the spicy green sauce on the side. My husband had an omelette/home fries/toast. Both really good. Coffee was wonderful - bit strong which is how I like it. So, I'm coming back. Since I'm retired, I can go on a weekday ( guessing will be too crowded on a weekend). Two years ago my wife and i decided to have breakfast in every town in Connecticut. This was our 85th town. Food so so. Huevos rancheros came with a runny sour sauce. beans were nice but rice very bland. No flavor at all. The reason I'm giving the restaurant any stars at all is the zero option is not available. Our server was gracious and pleasant. At the conclusion of our meal, as we were having our coffee, we were told we had to leave. They needed the table. There were empty tables and no one was waiting. I didn't want to make a fuss so we left. I then read that in a similar incident police were called. Seriously, if you don't like people why are you in the hospitality industry. I worked in service for 60 years. I've been cooking at church for more than 35 years. Clearly this owner needs to find another profession or get some serious counselling. read more

My partner and I came for brunch before the farmer's market. It was definitely busy, but they got us in super quickly. The place is incredibly clean and tables are well distanced! Our server was super kind and patient as we looked over the menu. I ordered the WOKE benedict which comes with chorizo instead of the regular Canadian bacon. WOW was this delicious! The Hollandaise was super creamy and well made. My partner ordered an omelet and devoured that in seconds. We decided to split the peaches and cream pancakes. They were honestly my highlight. My group of four stopped in on a Saturday morning around 11:45. We had no problem with seating as there were two booths available by the front windows. I found the restaurant to be clean and pleasant. Not a large space for seating. I appreciate that the servers use a handheld device to take orders and for payment. The food was delicious and came out of the kitchen in decent time, but I could see from where we sat that our order was waiting to be picked up in the kitchen and delivered to our table for about five minutes while the staff chatted behind the counter. Our group had a mixture of orders off the board (takeout menu above the counter and is breakfast sandwiches) and from the menu. Two ordered breakfast sandwiches of bacon, egg, and cheese. One on an enormous croissant (see picture). The other was on a plain bagel. Both were delicious, according to our friends. I ordered from the Mexican breakfast section of the menu. My scrambled eggs with chorizo, beans, and rice was delicious. I could have used more hot sauce for the eggs and beans. Hot sauce would be a nice add to the table. The last meal was one of the omelets which was devoured happily. We ordered a mixture of coffees: drip, cappuccino, decaf cappuccino, and latte. All of them were well made drinks full of flavor. Went back today and got breakfast. My husband got Irish Benedict and I got omelette. I asked for extra crispy potatoes and so did he. Waitress was fantastic. Husband didn't like his egg. It was not fully cooked. It was not white it was still translucent. My omelette was severely overcooked but I ate the inside and my toast. Neither got crispy potatoes. When he showed waitress she apologized profusely and asked if he wanted something else. He said no ty as we had an apt to get to. When waitress brought it back I heard her tell owner and also that he did not want another. We were waiting for bill for quite some time when the owner came out w new dish. My husband said he was sorry but said he did not want another as we had to leave. She left dish on table and put her hands up in the air and mumbled something as she walked away. We went up to register to pay since we had to leave. She charged him for dish he sent back. Which was not eaten. He said he would not pay for it. Admittedly he's a hot head and definitely raised his voice but the owner walked to phone and called cops then asked me to leave. I refused until cops came. She called her husband up who was as hot headed as mine and began to scream over the counter at both myself and my husband. So I began recording. Cops laughed when they arrived because what a waste of town resources. Of course the result was we did not pay for that dish and were happy to pay the remaining amount with a gracious tip to the poor waitress. I guess lesson is if you are sensitive to feedback you should prob not be an owner. Everyone has off days in cooking and nothing will be perfect in a restaurant but ppl should expect food cooked and how they like it & to be treated w respect. read more

This libertarian minded conservative leaning foodie has gone woke. Now of course that doesn't mean anything about our politics it just means I found woke Cafe, and you're awesome breakfast. I had the huevos con chorizo, blueberry pancake and iced chai latte. My son had the chickens and waffle and chocolate milk. My breakfast was just perfect I try to make huevos con chorizo at home and it never comes out as delicious as this. They also have the chalua hot sauce which pares perfectly if you like it a little spicier. These are normal size pancakes folks! Not the plate size oh my gosh I can't finish this whole thing type of pancake. And it was delicious. Blueberries both on the inside and outside topped with a scoop of butter. Light and fluffy and full flavor. Another win. Our waitress was attentive, very personable and rounded out the positive experience. Prices a little high, but when taking into account the quality and quantity of food I will easily add this to the top of my list for breakfast places in the willimantic / storrs area. Woke is the perfect name for a restaurant that is completely asleep at the wheel when it comes to customer service. We were told to sit wherever we liked, so we chose a nice window table and started our breakfast. Mid breakfast, we were abruptly told to get up and move, even though several other tables were empty. The reason? The owner wanted our window spot for a group of people who were clearly her friends or family. There is nothing quite like being shoved aside in the middle of a meal so the owner can play favorites. If you enjoy being treated like an afterthought while paying top shelf prices for bottom shelf hospitality, this might be the place for you. We will not be back, and we are clearly not the only ones. The community is already starting to stay away, and if this is how Woke chooses to treat its customers, that trend will only continue. Tone deaf service and inflated prices make for a short shelf life. read more

It's a really wonderful location and it wasn't busy on the morning I stopped. There's a handful of tables and it was pretty seat yourself I think. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and was underwhelmed: two eggs, one runny and one hard, on two tortillas with green salsa, a large spoonful of rice and a slightly smaller portion of beans with some fresh cheese on top. It was good, but it wasn't filling for $14. When I asked for a refill of my coffee to go - after having had one cup with breakfast - I was initially told "sure, no problem." But I was then told by my server, "sorry, we don't do that I guess and you would have to buy another coffee if you want one to take with you." A refill to go is common place in this area. I really, really want to like Woke, and I love the premise, location and restaurant design, but I didn't feel it was worth the $20+ for a breakfast for one. read more

The service here sucks, came here a couple weeks ago I forgot to write a review until someone else shared the same experience as me, but I waited in the front for about 20 minutes and no one acknowledged me and no one had the courtesy to say "I'll be right with you" waited for a long time, got sat with no menus the server didn't come back to the table for 15 minutes the food was actually really good but no one came around to fill our drinks.
