So this was a unique experience. I had been a Coral Gables resident for my entire life up until a month ago and now at Christmas time I finally ventured into this store, appropriately enough for last minute Christmas shopping. An old coworker of mine in the hospitality industry has mentioned it to me way back as I like to gift my father with good quality wines and he directed me there a few years ago. I finally stopped in. I have to be honest and say the highlight of my visit were the two large golden retrievers who immediately headed straight towards me to greet me tails wagging and all. The locked my hand, smelled me, and I guess deemed me a suitable patron. No growling whatsoever. The wine store itself held a wide variety of more lesser known, eclectic wines like from brands I had never heard of (some yes like Honig which is my favorite and also Schafer)...others not so much. The prices range from affordable to high end with wines marked $20.00 to $600.00. Most seemed very Old World to be honest. I'm more into New World wines, but either way it was still a pleasure to browse through all the different types. It had this rustic, small family, business owned proprietary feel would made it that much more charming. They also have wine tastings! I think if you're looking for off the wall, avant-garde, unique wines that are more internationally inclined (ie. Many French and Italian wines)...this is your place. I would return if I'm in town and I wish to expand my palette to more Old World wines, but I'm such a Napa, Sonoma, Willamette Valley wine girl that it's hard to break away from my roots. Doesn't hurt to try though. The owner or manager who was there was very friendly and helpful and you can tell he has his regulars. I really loved though getting to be greeted by the golden retrievers as I'm such a dog and animal lover it was a. So strange to see bad reviews about this place. Wine is a bit of a hobby of mine and one thing we're really lacking in Miami is places to buy good wine. I suppose if you're looking for grocery store wine, this probably isn't your vibe but if you're like me who seeks out complex flavor then I think you'll be super happy. I stopped in looking for skin contact wine after trying a few boutique stores nearby. No luck of course at other places. I've been ordering my wine online for years now because typically miami is void of orange wine. The owner greeted me immediately and so did his two gorgeous and sweet golden retrievers and pointed me to several bottles of orange wine!!! I was floored! I grabbed two that he suggested, haven't tried them yet but they look great. Prices on the bottles were reasonable. From the moment I walked in and smelled the mothball tinged aroma in the air I knew we should've walked right out. It just got worse from there. The wine was below quality and the owner was a pretentious and rude individual. He has absolutely no knowledge of how to treat his customers with respect. The store is everything a wine connoisseur would want. I appreciate the selection and would've give it five stars solely on the selection. The attention to detail and service that a young lady has always provided has always been spot on and a pleasure to do business with. However in my sole encounter with whom I understand is the business owner, Jeffrey, was off-the-charts rude via a rushed telephone call that I had made while in the rear of Wolf's shop. Everything began with an "I'm busy doing this or that..." which only beckons me to believe in how customers feel and want. You know...the customers' needs. The door was open and repeat customers know to use this entrance. However, in light of the covid pandemic and out of respect for the establishment, I decided to call, even though the door was wide open. His tone was brusque and what I couldn't believe wasn't that I got turned away at 6:01 pm (closes at 6:00PM, but rather that I called back to ask why I was turned away considering that we're loyal customers, it's shy of being Shabbat (we're a Jewish family) and Coral Gables residents/locals. His response was unsettling, saying that I was wasting his time and was had a heavy workload. He added saying that he has his own personal issues to worry about. This business needs a refresher on customer service, especially when business is hurting. It's important to know who you're dealing with, especially as they're bringing personal issues to the workplace. read more

Called to see where they were located and to ensure they had spirits. Working in the gables for the past 15 years I was surprised we had a liquor store on the mile. Maybe it was new? Dude answers with an attitude. Asked where he was he said 124. I said what's that by? He said 124. I asked if they had jack daniels. He snapped back only wine. I pointed out that Yelp said they had liquor. He snapped back only wine and Well they are wrong and hung up. That's not a good way to attract new busine. Fast forward 2 months. Stopped in today for convenience against my better judgement. Chris was awesome. He Walked me around. Explained the store set up, prices, wine textures, etc.., he laughed when I asked for vodka. Says google and everyone says they sell it. Spent $50 on 2 bottles. I Will be back for the wine tastings. I Offered friendly suggestions about having tapas items for sale. It's no secret that I love wine. While I may be an expert in drinking wine, I'm by no means an expert in tasting notes, varietals etc. Lately I've been attempting to expand my wine palate and also try some wines that aren't so mainstream. Along with that comes a need for some help when selecting your bottle since I am by no means a wine expert. That's where the friendly staff at Wolfe's Wine Shoppe comes in. I was introduced to this spot by Wendy A at her UYE that she hosted. Each Friday, they host wine tastings for $20 which is a great way to try 6 wines and learn about each one! The wine tasting was pretty casual, with tables set up outside for guests and well as a table in the back. Each week is a different wine theme, so I am sure I'll be back when one of them catches my eye. In addition to the tasting I came back here the other day to be the best party guest and pick up a few bottles of white. The shop itself can be kind of intimidating since there aren't really labels describing what wines are what (that I noticed) BUT I have to hand it to the owner for noticing when a new patron walks in. He made it a point to excuse himself from a big group enjoying a tasting to help me select the wine I wanted. He also helped me to pick wines that don't break the bank. I ended up with a nice Pinot Grigio for $20 and another $14 bottle that he affectionately called "soccer mom wine" aka easy drinking. Kudos to Wolfe's for having variety that is not only delicious, but affordable! I did notice some bottles that were a splurge, but I am sure they are perfect for a special occasion. I really enjoyed the customer service I received, and will definitely be back to learn more at a future tasting! read more

Before we met our good friends Michelle (wine goddess) and Dom, I had to rely on the advice of strangers to decide what kind of wine to splurge on in those special occasions that require a special bottle. A short stroll to Wolfe's was always the solution. Their selection is simply staggering. You will find the right one for whatever special reason you may decide to go a little more "upscale" than what the regular liquor stores carry. Additionally, they are constantly hosting events geared towards educating the community in the art of wine - pairings and more. Sadly my asthma now gets triggered by the tannins in wine, so I have to choose wisely when to drink and pay the price later .... any given Yelp Elite event for example ... is a great opportunity to consume some vino. read more

Just a short review here... My father loves this place; he has spent a considerable amount of time getting to know the owner, and always takes me to the Coral Gables shop to pick out wines for the meals I make when visiting my family. I must say that I have never been let down by Jeff's talent in picking the "right" wine for each meal. I think that the reviewers who focus on the prices here may be missing the point a bit. This is not a clearinghouse of wine; it is a boutique, specialty wine shop that probably doesn't get the same discounts as a large distributor like Total Wine or Crown. I believe that what you get for the price differential is access to Jeff's palate and experience he cultivated over many years. To me, it's worth it - every time. I agree that his selections of French wine are wonderful - I especially enjoy his penchant for selecting wines from smaller producers and knowing the stories behind them. Every time I've been in the shop, I have greatly enjoyed learning more about these wines by speaking with Jeff, and hope to do so for many years to come. read more

I recently hosted a wine tasting party (first ever) and came to Wolfe's for help as I know Wolfe's hosts many wine tastings. The website claims that for a fee, Wolfe's will come to your office or home to put together a wine tasting. I simply relied on Jeff Wolfe's recommendations and did the work myself. After providing him with the theme of my party and my likes and dislikes he took me around the store and recommended some wines. At my request he numbered the wines for me so that I would know in what order to serve them. Lastly, he offered to have someone in the store send me tasting notes if I couldn't find them myself on the internet. While the overall verdict on the recommend wines was mixed, I appreciated the time and attention Wolfe's provided to me. read more

I hope that Jeffery Wolfe reads this review and realizes that every customer is important but he probably won't .... I was at his wine shop last night for the Friday night tastings and it was my birthday so I asked a few friend to join me a total of 6 people. For those who have never been there it's 20 bucks per person but you get a glass to take home and it was 11 wines we where tasting so not bad. If you do the math it's 120 so it was like walking in and picking up a couple of nice bottles. A bit of history ... Jeffery has been in business for a while and has survived against all odds so good for him. I remember walking in to his shop when he still had hair on his head and him educating us on the different pronunciations of the wines. My wife of nearly 20 years and I had just come back from Napa, our first trip and we wanted to jump into wine. He was pleasant and informative so we kept coming back until we moved away. Fast forward to last night... you see we recently went back for the tasting and had a good time. So when planning the bday outing i thought what the hell lets meet there and start the night right. My wife and I get there first pick up our glasses and the list of wines and started drinking. Pre paid everyone in my party so that they could come right to the table for the tasting. The young man that was serving us was very nice and had patience for the questions we where asking soon enough the rest of my party joined us. The place is not large so we gathers to one corner and no one mentioned that we where in the way or that I should not be on the opposite side of the table. I failed to mention that there where about 5 to 6 other people so the table was full. About half way into the tasting a customer comes in from the rear of the shop and just stands behind us mind you we had been there for 45 min or so and we where not sure who he was. So this asshole and trust me that is exactly what he was an asshole. Just stairs at us so we say do you need to get by and he says " I THOUGHT IT WAS OBVIOUS " we move and say to each other all he had to say was excuse me and we would move . Well here is where Jeffery comes and says " MAKE ROOM FOR A PAYING CUSTOMER ". That's right the owner of this pathetic wine shop just blatantly insults his customers and as I mentioned before we did pay. The asshole leaves and after 15 minutes or so Good old Jeff comes over and says to us " YOU KNOW GUYS I NEED YOU TO MOVE NO ONE IS ALLOWED BEHIND THE TABLE AND WELL IM JUST A STICKLER FOR THAT" so apparently the asshole must of spent more than we did and we where disposable as customers. Mind you we all had intention of purchasing at least a few bottles from the tasting. Oh well ... but the best part was when another couple, some old crooner with his trophy wife stood in the same spot we where moved from and was not told to move ... maybe he was part of the privileged and few customers Wolfe's wine shop has left. Mr. Wolf I hope you know you are a fossil in an age of online wine shops that provide better selections and far more pleasant experience. Now you may last another 20 years but I think your shitty attitude to those who might be experiencing you shop for the first time will be your demise. In conclusion if your looking for a great wine selection in and around Miracle Mile go anywhere but here....you suck Jeffery Wolf! read more

If I could give zero stars I would unfortunately I can't so I star it is. I walking into the store today unaware that the owner had a mandatory mask requirement even though it had a sign which I did not see because I was looking at my phone....I walked in saying good morning and the owner immediately told me that I needed to have a mask. As I was trying to explain that I didn't have one and that I walked in from very far just to deliver some thank you notes that needed to go with an order that was purchased from him, he in a very rude way told me that because of me and people like me COVID came back. As I was trying to explain that I was vaccinated he continued to scream and in a very rude way kicked me out of the store. I have never in my life been treated the way he did. My husband wrote a review on google about the way he treated me and he said that he would not release the goods that were purchased unless my husband removed his review. He is a very rude person and should not be dealing with customers. By the looks of it he has something against Spanish looking/speaking customers because most of the reviews giving him a bad review are from Hispanic customers. read more

Tucked away with a narrow entryway and unassuming storefront - you might walk right past it - and that would be a shame :) First thing - sign up for their mailing list so you get notice of their new arrivals, specials and frequent wine tastings. For a modest size shop - we have found a full range of surprises and rare labels. As well as delicious, affordable alternatives for everyday drinking that you won't find at other shops. I often walk in the shop with only an idea of the type of flavor and drinking experience I want for the evening - and within minutes - the staff has at least three suggestions that meet my criteria - and I have yet to be disappointed by a recommendation! The event was centered around a wine tasting of different light summer wines on the newly finished extended sidewalk along Miracle Mile. Quality This review is in regards to Wolfe's Wine Shoppe and not the event itself. It is hard to complain about an event with friendly company, especially one that included an appearance by our new leader Diandra. It is the great conversations and fun times that make you realize what a great community Yelp really has. Now we signed up for a wine tasting that provided our group with the opportunity to try a selection of eight wines. In order to fit the al fresco mood of the evening the selection was a mix of rose, riesling, and other lighter chilled wines. Personally none of the wines really stood out as great to me, but I am far from a wine expert. Really there was only one wine I disliked, while the rest of the selection were pretty decent. Quantity My biggest issue was the very small samples that we got of each wine. I understand that it was merely a wine sampling, but it was tough to even form an impression of the wine without a bit more. I would have enjoyed a smaller selection of wines with larger pours. In the end I left with no concept if any of the wines are something I would order again. Value If you RSVP ahead of the sampling Wolfe's provides you with a wine glass to bring home along with eight small tastes for $20. In the end I did not leave feeling like it was a good value regardless of what the actual wines I tried really cost. Ambiance Wolfe's Wine Shoppe is located in Coral Gables right on Miracle Mile. It is a place that you could walk by hundreds of times and never even notice. While the display windows of the store do have some decorations suggesting that it is a wine shop, the store itself is very chaotic. Boxes and shelves have wine everywhere, but the order was difficult to discern. For a small boutique shop I would think the focus would be more on the customer experience, but it seemed designed by someone who sets up a store only they know how to find things in. The inside space was also very small, so the sidewalk tasting was a necessity. They set up the bar/table near the front entrance then several high top tables a few feet away. Unfortunately the weather did not play along as it was very hot and humid, so a few fans would have been very helpful. They did help set up a younger gentleman to play keyboard and sing nearby, but the volume was a huge problem. The first set he did made it very difficult to hear what anyone was saying in the group. Luckily by the end of the evening it had both cooled down and the volume had been adjusted. It is definitely a setup that requires some adjustments from Wolfe's. Crowd The area was very busy as lots of the nearby businesses had free samples for visitors willing to brave the parking situation. Wolfe's had a nice sized crowd and our group alone had about ten guests. What I will say is most people had opted for actual glasses of wine rather than the wine tasting, which I probably would have preferred. Service The service was very strange and did not leave a great impression. The person working behind the counter did not seem to know how to use the register and caused the line to pile up. One of the people working at the shop had no patience with the customers and almost seemed angry that the shop was busy. Then there was the bartender who had great knowledge of the different wines. But at least two of the wines he had very negative opinions of, which begs the question why even serve them then. It is hard to be enthusiastic about a new wine when the server and wine expert doesn't even like it and makes it known. Parking On Friday evening I had not choice but to valet park. The area is an absolute disaster as the only open street spots were reserved for valet parking and the parking garages were full. It was very discouraging and it would deter me from returning on a weekend evening. Extra I have to thank Wendy A for setting up such a fun evening and I look forward to what other great events she can come up with. Wolfe's Wine Shoppe and specifically the wine tasting on the other hand definitely need some work. If I was to return I would definitely opt for opening a bottle or ordering a glass over the sampling. It is just too small to tell if you even like the wines. Easier food ordering options and some fans outdoors are also needed elements. Also, focusing on wines the staff love would likely inspire more enthusiasm than the clear resentment shown by the staff about a few of the selections. read more

About three years ago, I went to San Francisco for my birthday and spent six days sleeping on the couch of an old friend. I guess he felt bad for me because he and his wife decided to surprise me one day and take me to Sonoma County. I really had minimal experience with wine and, more often than not, whatever i was drinking would just give me a headache. Needless to say, that trip to wine country changed every single perception that I had about wine and the people that enjoy it (although most are still totally make-fun-of worthy; maybe even me.) So, ever since that day, I've tried expanding my knowledge of wines. I'm no expert and i don't have the sharpest nose in the shed but, when i'm at a restaurant, i like my chances at guessing. it's educated guessing, of course, but still guessing. Anyway, yes, the staff at Wolfe's can be a bit snooty (The US 1 location is waaay friendlier) and kind of, how should i put it? a bit off-putting? hm. whatever. but, my thoughts are, who cares? i'm not there to make friends. i'm there to pick up some killer wines. and i have never once been disappointed with their recommendations. I really don't think you should feel embarrassed or overwhelmed walking in there. Just let them know that you're interested in wines less than $20, $30, $15, $100 whatever. let them know if you prefer red or white and let them know if this is for a date, a gift, a meal, a dinner party, a tasting, or something else entirely. but go in their with balls. don't be all shy-sheep about it. Say, this is what i want goddamn it. and i ain't leaving until i get it! They've never done wrong by me. and i can't imagine they'd lead you astray either. Plus, their weekly tastings are a great way to actually sample the wines and discover what it is you like instead of shopping blindly. read more

Wolfe's is a mixed bag for me. They have a very unique wine selection and this makes them a great choice for that special bottle. However, when I can find a bottle elsewhere, it's usually for less, sometimes a bit less. Matt and another lady (name slips my mind) who used to helped me have moved elsewhere now. Jeffrey's selections (and mood) can be up and down for my tastes. I can say for the most part I've had some good wines, character wines, some very interesting wines I absolutely enjoyed. If you want to talk wine with a guy who knows wine then visit Jeff at his shoppe. Once upon a time he was Norman's go to wine guy so he had to be and is creative. If your smart you'll get on his social network and the enjoy the weekly blast. Almost every friday Wolfe's has a tasting that's just a whole lot of fun and very creative. I haven't done it, but I am pretty sure that you could get a pour and read a book for a while at the big zinc table in the back and spend a few hours just relaxing.
