Wonderless Bagels on Jersey Ave. I have not been to this location in awhile since I moved out of the neighborhood. Since I was visiting some friends across the street and already had a parking spot, I wanted to pick up a few on my way home despite my friends warned me the service has declined terribly and they refuse to eat there. For starters, the parking is an extreme challenge just to get bagels at this location. The place is small and looks dirty from floors to ceiling, counter to seats, window table as well as the POS. Did I mention all the flies from the propped open door? The place was packed with no clear line and the order taker just seemed to pick and choose who he helped next. The organization of ordering, check out and picking up your order was inefficient which delayed everyone's Sunday morning. I waited patiently... until the guy at the register handling the bills and coins turned around and started handling the food. I heard the woman behind me utter "gross". At that point, I turned around and left to drive to Wonder Bagels on Bergen or Sip, both of which I have been to which are much cleaner. They are lucky to have so many delivery pick ups so customers do not see the conditions of the food prep that arrives at their door. I should have heeded my friends warning!! Wonder Bagels is a solid spot for a no frills good bagel. The bagel has good flavor and I personally am a fan of the texture. My go to order is a SEC or BEC with SPK on an everything bagel with fresh orange juice, and it gets the job done. I will say, service is somewhat variable. Wonder bagels is apparently a staple in Jersey City. I get it. There aren't many bagel spots here. However, I was a tad bit underwhelmed with my bagel. The selection wasn't as expansive as the bagel spots I'm used to seeing in Central NJ. Additionally, the bagels aren't as big as I've seen and neither is the quantity of the egg and cheese. this bagel shop was so good. I got a plain bagel with jalapeño cream cheese and their orange juice. If you're into fresh squeezed juice. Their orange juice is the perfect thing to order and their plain bagel and they're everything bagel are both really good choices to get the weight can be a little long, but I wouldn't say it extends longer than five minutes to wait on your bagels. The employees really need you to say exactly what you want because it can be a little loud in the facility. Recommended by a local friend to check out to avoid goin to NY. Came on a Friday morning and there was a line. Got their dozen of assorted bagels for $14 and they said that they have a promo for 1 free bagel with a dozen so I got that toasted with cream cheese and they charged around $4.50 for cream cheese. I've been living in Jersey City for 2 weeks now and I've already managed to come here 4 times- that's how obsessed with their bagels I am! Their bagels are perfectly soft on the inside yet crisp on the outside. I got a dozen bagels to bring on a weekend trip and literally ate one of them in the car untoasted and with no spread on it and thought it was still amazing. Their line moves pretty quickly too so don't let that deter you. You literally can't go wrong with any type of bagel from here. My personal favorite is the everything bagel. Just average bagels. I wouldn't come here again and it's not worth the line. Do yourself a favor and take the PATH 2 stops into NYC and you can find better bagels for the same price (and larger too). Hey peeps - so if you're looking for a delicious bagel in Jersey City, yes, def come here! You will be in wonder!! But you also shouldn't wonder why there's always a huge line outside as the place is tiny and gets super busy. It can take 15-30min just to order by waiting! I recommend calling in the order ahead of time and picking up - or ordering delivery off Uber Eats. However depending on what you get, it might be slightly expensive. My go-to is the NY Style bagel with fresh nova lox, cream cheese, onions and tomatoes - usually on a whole wheat everything bagel and a side of hot sauce! Yes dipping that baby in their hot sauce makes it even better. The bagel is HUGE and delicious (but can def add a pretty substantial amount of carbs if consumed on a daily basis, haha.) I wish they added a little more lox though, less cream cheese. I usually ask for them to put on capers, but if it came with lettuce, cucumbers and capers too that would be even more dope! As a New Yorker I've been spoiled with some good ass bagels, shout out to Murray's! As a NJ resident, I've had too many bad bagels. Here's what I think constitutes a good bagel: - Hefty size with hole in the middle - Crunchy crust, soft inside - creamy cream cheese, not too much but not too little Easy, right? Apparently no. Wonder Bagels is wildly popular in Hudson County (not sure if they exist elsewhere) so they've been my go-to spot whenever I crave a bagel. However, as of late I've noticed their bagels are actually quite small, too chewy, and missing that crunchy exterior. The taste is also oddly sweet. I've asked on multiple occasions if their bagel is vegan and they said "yes" because they don't use honey so I can only assume they put too much sugar? Whatever it is, unless it's suppose to be a sweet bagel (shout out to cinnamon raisin lovers), I don't want a sweet bagel. Wonder bagels leaves much to be desired. Good bagel shop for NJ standards (NYC bagels are still better! We came around 10am on a Saturday and somehow avoided all the people that came in after us(20-30 people). Prices are decent, a BEC is $6 and a bagel with cream cheese and bacon is around $5. They have iced coffee too ($3), but it's not too strong. I didn't particularly like the bagel itself, but they were not cheap with the cream cheese, bacon, or the egg in the BEC. I would stop by again if I was staying in the area! read more
