Their chicken parm sandwich is the best you'll find anywhere, the cheesesteak is incredible, the turkey club is perfect, and there are several other sandwiches offered that I'm sure are great too. Great bakery/deli located on West Side Ave. in Jersey City. Not as well known as a couple of other establishments but just as good. They serve breakfast and sandwiches along with the bakery. Have tried the bread here before and it is very good. Custard cups: might be best in Jersey City. Breakfast sandwiches and deli sandwiches are very good and the price is right. The service is quick and always friendly. The stuffed breads are also very very good. I haven't tried a ton of the other bakery items but what I have tried has been good. They have one table inside if you decide to eat there. If you are in the Greenville/Marion area this place is a hidden gem. A must try. read more

Awesome breakfast sammies. I had a bacon egg and cheese. Wife had the Egg and cheese with tomato and jalapeño. Both on everything bagels. Great bread. We liked the custard pies as well. The chocolate croissant that I bought for $2.50 was probably 3-4 days old which is the one of the reasons for the 4 star. We loved our meal here, service was good and would come back if we were in the area again. PS - The one thing that ircked me though is that an older lady skipped the line and was served since she is a regular 1st, even though I had arrived first. Went around 3pm on a Tuesday Got the Italian sub/hero. Huge! I like that it comes with onions, oil and vinegar, pepperoni, Swiss, and I forget... I did ask for hot peppers and the guy said they have jalapeños so I added that and said no Mayo but mustard and he did exactly as I asked Service was good. It got busy all of the sudden so another man came to help I also got a small rainbow cookie and the jelly cookie with powdered sugar (Linzer tart) Rainbow cookie tasted okay at first but reminded me more and more of cherry medicine Cookie was okay but I've had better Prices seem to be good but not as good as I expected. Breads are still as they have always been! Crusty on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside! Prices are still reasonable. They make great sandwiches here as well! Some menu highlights in my opinion: egg tarts, rainbow cookies, & cappuccino muffins. Not to mention very friendly staff. 5 star upgrade. Consistently a worth while trip to the bakery. The french bread is my favorite. The crust is usually a range of colors from light, to golden brown and some dark spots. A perfect balance of crunch. The inside is pillowy soft full of air pockets. Pressing down on the bread you can see it bounce back into shape when released. Flavorful enough to break a piece and eat alone or eat as a companion. Also, Elios now sells these "Cinnamon Raisin Bagel Bites" that are just scrumptious. I go to Elio's for their terrific Sicilian pizza slices, sub sandwiches, fresh bread, and custard cups. The pizza squares reheat wonderfully, and I always buy one extra custard cup because I know I'll eat one on the ride home, flaky crumbs in the car be damned! Their baguettes are really good, here's a picture of a pate platter I made and ringed with slices of their bread to top with a mustard schmear and a slice of pate. My guests all asked me where the bread came from! The only downside is that parking can be difficult in the area. read more

The two countermen have the worse personalities I have EVER encountered at ELIOS...He could not speak clear english and was abrupt, terse and rushing you when you are trying to see what you want...(treated as if you were ordering Pizza slices to go) .... He must have said "Yeah?, What you want?" 4 times while I was looking for breakfast pastry.... I bought two slices of carrot cake (cut small enough as if they were for a toddler) and four muffins that were Dry, Crumbly, Tasteless and WAY over priced..(Almost $30.00) .I will NEVER Go Back to this Bakery . read more

Years ago, in the wake of a stomach ulcer, I was advised by my doctor to avoid anything with meat, anything with oil and fats, and anything spicy for the time being. First meal I purchased after that was one of their spicy pepperoni rolls with mozz. As much as it hurt for the following night, I refuse to call it a mistake. I have to admit that a lot of childhood nostalgia is influencing this review. I went to school at the nearby ps33 and later at the now defunct school on Ege Ave down the block so Elio's was commonly in my lunch bag at field trips. The pepperoni and mozz roll is a favorite of mine. I'm ashamed to say the over-buttered crust has me addicted. I do like the pepperoni itself though. Sharp spice and a lot of flavor. I can't say the same for their sausage. I would pass on that. Thumbs down for their cheesecake though. It's a very heavy, dense body. No crust. There was a slight sourness at first bite. Nice staff. Their hot food can run out through the day. Their menu can completely shorten by 4pm. read more

Four years. I have been passing this place for 4 years and finally got around to going inside. I now wish that I hadn't waited so long. You can purchase almost any kind of bread, roll or bagel made that day in the store. The cakes, pies, cheesecake, pastries and cookies are homemade as well. WOW. What a find. A sandwich on their fresh bread is fantastic and much better then Carmines or many of the "Downtown" Jersey City places like Milano's, Second Street Bakery etc. incredibly small, but crammed with deliciousness. I purchased a Chicken Parm hero, cheesecake (plain) baguette, and an Italian sub with Mozz and was blown away. The fantastic, chewy and fresh bread made all the difference, I would recommend a visit if you are adventurous, you may be pleasantly surprised and happy. read more

I decided to try the chicken parm since I'm a huge fan of it from Carmine's! The staff was friendly and helpful. There were a lot of baked goodies but none interested me. So now the sandwich ... The bread was a bit tough, the chicken was warm not hot and the flavor was okay. I like to try places in my neighborhood and I'd probably come back for a cold sandwich on a different bread. For me, the bread is the highlight of any sandwich and this bread wasn't fresh. Back to Carmine's I go! read more

I've been coming to Elio's bakery for years and they generally have been really good but as of late, they have been a bit inconsistent. We order breakfast from this place all the time because we're convinced the bread is best when you order before 11 AM. For some reason they have been many times that we have ordered for lunch, and the bread has tasted old. But for some reason that problem never occurs before 11 AM. Sometimes they serve wilted lettuce to as well. So the people at my job and I generally only order from Eleos in the morning. read more

Recently I have been posting about local small business's that are diamonds in the ruff. Well Elio's Bakery (442 west side ave) is one of those places. After doing some late morning trek's I was hungry. Found this place on accident and had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners. Meeting him, seeing what they had to offer, and the amazing sandwich I had I was hooked! I ordered one of my favorite Italian lunches prosciutto, mozzarella, and tomato. An Italian staple that is a great way to judge the food. The prosciutto was fresh and sliced thin as was the tomato. Then when he sliced the fresh made in house daily mozzarella and put everything on a fresh made in house role I was impressed. I got home sat down and lunch became an event. A++++ for the service, bread, mozzarella.....I've gone back several times and tried many of the deserts and homemade gravy (sorry mom it was really good!) I would highly recommend! read more

Stopped here while traveling. We had no idea where we were but were hungry so took a turn to find food. We noticed this place and went in. The people who worked there were incredibly friendly and patient with us as we were unfamiliar with the different deli meats. This is the real deal. This is an authentic deli and bakery. We tried several different meats and ended up having the best hero sandwiches I have ever had. The meat, cheese and seasonings were incredible. Even though we were in a neighborhood and area totally unfamiliar to us, the staff there made us feel comfortable and completely welcome. I didn't get a chance to try a pastry but they looked delicious. I will definitely go out of my way to return if I am ever back in that area. This was a special experience for me as I had never been to an authentic Italian deli and bakery. read more
