Started my pup's socialization at Wonder Puppy's Wogo Play Session. On my first visit, I was really overwhelmed (and have never brought any of my pets to a class) like this so I felt lost. I was just instructed to go to the corner and when my pup wasn't willing to play with the other dogs, I just sat there the entirety of the class. I was discouraged, and didn't want to come back - but I came back and gave it a second chance. I'm glad I did. The trainers here are just trying to do their jobs to keep all puppies safe and I guess when you have 10+ pups in a room they can't always focus on every pup. My pup went through six sessions total and came out a whole different pup when it comes to interacting/playing. I have a 6 year old Yorkie at home and he was not patient with my Mini Aussie. Now, they enjoy each other so much better and I rarely need to keep my eye on them when they are goofing off together. I would encourage getting numbers from anyone who has a pup your pup interacts well with for future play dates. Something I didn't do, but wish I did! read more

This was our first stop into puppy parenting. We attended a couple of puppy social classes and 2- half day camps. The social puppy experiences I believe were a part of a critical foundation to our training and while we didn't continue with Wonder Puppy training we do believe we owe our healthy foundation to our experiences we had here initially. I highly recommend this first stop when you bring your puppy home. I would suggest getting your puppy in for a social right at 8 weeks as this is the time Wonder Puppy's work is most valuable. This is the key to the work they do is early socialization- and the research proves how valuable that is- so try out a class! The staff is super kind and generous with their time and experience. My husband and I have two puppies. We got one in August and one in December of 2019. We had so many friends, coworkers, clients that took their puppies here and highly recommended it. We started out going to a few Social Puppy sessions with our older puppy and she had a blast. As soon as we got our second pup, we took her to the Social Puppy sessions right away. She was much more shy than our first pup so we signed her up for a few Day Camp sessions and it made a WORLD of difference! She became much more confident in new environments and so much more playful at Social Puppy. We also did a private training session after getting our younger puppy. Our older pup finished the Good Puppy class in December and then went on to the Great Puppy class. We were about halfway through the Great Puppy class and plan to continue as soon as they are fully open again once COVID 19 is under control (Great Puppy is not one of the classes that the staff felt like could be taught online since the whole point is to teach your puppy through distractions). With our younger pup, we did about half of her Good Puppy class in person and then finished it out as an online version when the virus broke out. Huge props to all of the staff for so quickly changing the class from in-person to online and creating demo videos for all of the skills. They literally created the online class in less than a week so we didn't have to postpone our next regularly scheduled session. Once they're fully open, we plan to do the Great Puppy class with our younger puppy and take both dogs through the Wonder Puppy class. All of the staff that we have worked with here have been incredible. Everyone is friendly and so knowledgeable. They all make themselves available for questions after class and have great suggestions and ideas for any challenges we ever had. They have been such a huge and amazing help in training our puppies. I really wanted to love Wonder Puppy as all the reviews were very positive and the prices were reasonable, but our experience here was not great! Please note, if you have a high energy/working dog I DO NOT recommend taking your dog to Wonder Puppy. Our dog being a working dog would get very excited and bark as we would walk into the facility for training or puppy play dates. Before and after every class we would ask our trainer for drills and techniques to work on to have her quit barking or at least help us practice at home so we didn't disrupt everyone else. Their suggestions were to feed her a lot of treats and distract her from other dogs and people on walks (not helpful) or spend more money on private lessons because it appeared she had a 'behavior issue'. Since leaving Wonder Puppy we hired another trainer and after 20 minutes of training techniques our dog only barks on command now. Secondly, on top of the puppy classes, we attended two puppy play groups. Both occasions were horrible for our puppy and one of the times they asked if I wanted to leave because our puppy was barking (once again they weren't helping us with techniques to stop the barking). During the 2nd time we came to the puppy play date our dog was barking (in a playful manner with toys) and they ended up segregating us and our dog in a corner for the remainder of the play class, needless to say I was super embarrassed and never wanted to return. It was such a horrible experience and if it wasn't for the rest of the puppy classes I paid for I would have not come back. The style of the puppy play groups were interesting as we were supposed to walk next to our puppy and pull them back if they were misbehaving. I found the environment very extreme, stressful for the owners (especially if you didn't bring enough treats to distract them) and felt unnatural for a puppy to play this way. For both puppy training and the play dates you were asked to bring treats to distract them (Kongs etc), but if you ran out during a training, I felt very judged. Our dog eats through things super quickly and we would bring 3-4 chew sticks and fill/freeze 2 Kongs and within an hour she would have gone through those as well...they sell treats there but it always seemed like a burden to them if you needed extras. Overall, our dog is now six months and started puppy daycare in Hillsboro starting at 10 weeks old, goes to the dog park regularly and plays well with other kids, dogs, cats, and adults. I am not sure if the energy in Wonder Puppy was causing our dog to bark all the time, but I would not recommend this facility for anyone with a working dog (Shepard, Malinois, Boxer etc). The price at Wonder Puppy is reasonable, but depending on what you want your dog to do or learn, I would recommend watching videos online and practicing yourself at home. A lot of the other drills and puppy socialization was learned at puppy daycare and she is much better off. read more

After reading so many positive reviews, I expected to really like this place. I did two 'play classes' with my 3.5 month old lab puppy, the `Wogo Social Puppy´. First the good: the trainers were friendly and knowledgeable. I liked the set up of the class, with plenty of play time but also plenty of moments to get your pup to calm down. And it is nice that they have a water break where each pup gets their own bowl. Now for the not so good. I was really put off by the way they let the puppies play together, or actually, NOT let them play together. I have been to several other puppy training places before, but never experienced anything like this. Whenever it was play time, all owners as well as the trainer + assistant(s) were literally hovering over all the dogs, constantly grabbing their collars and restraining them from playing with each other. Now don't get me wrong, I understand that all puppy interaction is potentially dangerous and that it is very important to supervise and take action when puppies are behaving bad. However, I felt like this way, the pups had no chance to actually learn any social skills. They simply did not get the opportunity to make mistakes! The natural mechanism of puppies correcting each other was completely taken out of the game. Puppies need to EXPERIENCE to learn what happens when they nip another puppy a bit too hard, or why a puppy is backing off when they are too pushy. It is called learning bite inhibition. Puppies in this class were not given the chance to learn this very important skill. All in all, I found this atmosphere of extreme control very unnatural and stressful. My pup is pretty timid, but in both classes there was one pup that she got along great with and wrestled very nicely with. But the trainers constantly restrained her from the interaction, and expected me to hold her back and grab her collar, because whatever she did (either submissively backing off, or dominantly jump on the other pup), it was apparently not OK. Some things were almost funny to me. One time a pup grabbed a toy and started running, and the assistant yelled "Oh no, we have some resource guarding behavior here! Grab him!". Ouch. I assume liability is a big contributor to this set up, but it's not for me. read more

I signed up for a puppy playtime and had to cancel due to my dog being ill. I left a message ahead of time on their answering machine and was not given a refund. I was going to let that go, as I wanted my puppy to come to puppy socials. When they reopened their drop off puppy socials during quarantine, I contacted them as since my puppy just went over the 5 month mark and aged out because of quarantine, was there any way they could help me. That there is now a generation of pups without socialization because everything shut down. After leaving 2 messages on the phone and one insta message with no return call. They seemed to answer me by putting up a pic of the same breed as my dog and reiterating their age limits. Yet they would speak on their insta posts, how they were helping during this tough time. We just finished Good Puppy and Social Puppy classes with our corgi, Marigold. The Good Puppy series we took was via Zoom, which worked out surprisingly well, although in person sessions are available too. Class size was small enough to get plenty of attention and feedback. Terri, who led the classes was exceptional. She gave great direction, helpful suggestions, and was very positive (positive reinforcement is the foundation of Wonder Puppy's training philosophy). As inexperienced dog owners, the positivity paired with concrete instructions resulted in both us and our puppy gaining confidence with our skills. Next up are the Great Puppy and Wonder Puppy series, which build on what we've learned. We also have signed up for Zen Puppy to help make Marigold as chill as possible when needed, and Tricky Puppy, which, as the name suggests, teaches various tricks. Social Puppy consists of trainer-led socialization training of puppies of similar age and size. It's as much adorable as one can fit in a room, but also develops great training for puppies playing with each other. Sadly, Marigold is 20 weeks and has aged out of the class.
