**FAREWELL REVIEW** After what I think may have been a couple of years, I am saddened to write that Wonder Waffel in Melbourne is officially closed since 9 p.m. on Sunday night, August 30th. It was their last "hurrah" as money went to charity, as long-time patrons enjoyed one last wonder waffel, and for me, a chance for my friends who never got to enjoy a wonder waffel to have a taste of it, too. Everything from my previous post WAS in effect until they closed plus more, but I wanted to give one last update on how wonderful Serena and Jack are, and how much their business have brought together the community and enticed my fellow Yelpers to come all the way from Orlando just to try them. Their food was always on top for what they served. You have to understand that whole foods made the way they had is always going to be in a pricier side, but what you get is good, excellent even. They soon expanded with grilled cheese waffles, ice creams, and smoothies. All were good. But what makes Wonder Waffel amazing is how much it gave back to the community, the same community that did everything to give to them. They've supported numerous charitable causes, local businesses, and was even the location of my first letterbox hide in the international scavenger hunt game, letterboxing (similar to geocaching but way older and more old school). Wonder Waffel is now closed, but the legacy that Serena and Jack left behind will always be cherished amongst those close to them, especially since many friendships were established with them. And to be fair, the fact they are a niche and their location - which I have mentioned in my initial review - is a terrible location in my honest opinion, they've endured. I can only wish them the best in their future endeavors while this sweet chapter in their lives, in our lives, comes to a close. read more

Five stars for friendliness, flavor, and flair! We stumbled into Wonder Waffel out of curiosity over their Dubai Chocolate ice cream and ended up completely charmed. Not only was the ice cream absolutely delicious (we tried it in both a cone and cup!), but the staff--especially the German owner--were beyond friendly, warm, and welcoming. They made us feel like more than just customers, and that personal touch elevated the whole experience. The shop itself is clean, stylish, and modern with fun, cozy touches and a perfect pink aesthetic that invites you to stay a while. There's a fantastic variety of desserts, and while we haven't tried their famous waffles yet, we absolutely plan to return for them soon. Decided to stop by after dinner with my brother and from the outside, it is very unassuming but the inside is decorated lovely and the owners were a joy to speak with. Serena is an excellent service pro. She is congenial and gregarious and knows the menu, "Over Under Sideways Down." People say that you can't be in two places at once. And while, currently, this is technically true, over the past seven years of doing restaurant reviews, my companion on 90% of them has been my lovely daughter, Andrea. She knows the process and service quality. So, this time, I tried a bit of bilocation and had her place the order and take pics. Andrea placed an order for one Italian Savory and one Peanut Special Waffle. She then brought the food home to my awaiting palate. My first taste of what Wonder Waffel had to offer was a bite of their Italian Savory Waffel. It certainly looked appetizing, consisting of Pesto sauce, Mozzarella cheese, sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce and sun-dried tomatoes. Not to beat a dead horse here, but again, with bread/pastry/baked items as your base, it is paramount that they are properly executed. This waffel was correctly cooked; it just fell incredibly flat on the palate. I was expecting a flavorful, "savory" experience, but instead, my taste buds were greeted with neutrality. The ingredients were fresh, not frozen, but the quality wasn't high enough to compensate for the bland base. My editor-in-chief called Wonder Waffel to inquire about the ingredients for the Peanut Special as it is not listed on the menu, and low and behold, he got a hold of Serena. It does make one wonder if she sleeps on a cot in the back. I jest! Serena was exceptionally polite on the phone and offered Brett a ton of information on the Peanut Special, the Waffel batter, and the whole Wonder Waffel experience. Based on her diction during the phone call, I surmise she may be the franchise owner. The Peanut Special comprises a thin layer of Nutella and Peanut Butter, followed by sliced strawberries and bananas. It is then topped with Peanut Butter Cups and dusted with a fresh peanut crumble. If you're into Peanut Butter, this sure looks like it would be right up your alley. Serena says the batter is made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. I have no reason to doubt her, but again, as fresh as the ingredients may have been, it fell short on my schooled palate. We discovered Wonder Waffel while googling places to get dessert in the Melbourne area. It was the top suggestion with 5 stars and only about 5 minutes from where we were. When we walked in we were greeted with a smile and offered free samples. The employees were so friendly and informative and the shop itself was so cute and clean. Me and my friend decided to try this place after looking around on the maps app. Overall, it was a positive experience, as the owners were very friendly and courteous! We had tried both the Oreo waffle and the Mexican waffle. The Oreo waffle was really nice, the Oreos added a nice crunch in addition to the fruit and the soft waffle, and the chocolate syrup paired great! Although the cinnamon in the waffle in addition to all of the other flavors was a bit overpowering when combined. So me and my friend could only have half of it each before it got a bit overpowering, so if you're sharing then I think it's a great option! The Mexican waffle was definitely a new and different experience, I wasn't exactly sure what to think because the textures weren't mixing right for me, and I am occasionally very particular about the texture of my food- I assume it was the soft waffle in combination with the lettuce and guacamole that had been warmed to melt the cheese, it just wasn't right for me so I personally wouldn't try that again specifically because it had a lot going on at once. But if you're okay with that that shouldn't be an issue! ^^ I didn't get to try any of the ice cream / gelato in the ice cream case since I had used up most of my pocket money at the time (the waffles are about 15-17 dollars each) but if I come by again I will definitely try out some of their flavors! :) read more

This is where a UPS store used to be next to Publix if you're wondering. We came because we saw reviews were high and it was new. The place is very clean. I can tell they take great pride in the aesthetics of the restaurant and I'm purely guessing based on the prices, they put a lot of money in upfront. We ordered two small one scoop cups- one was strawberry sorbet, and the other vanilla. My kids enjoyed these immensely. There wasn't anything unique about them though. Fresh strawberries were used so if you're more into artificial- probably shouldn't get the strawberry. We also ordered the ferrero rocher milkshake and the snickers milkshake. Both with vanilla ice cream. They came out in mason jars and half inch wide straws which makes you feel like you're in a big city enjoying something indulgent. This was a cute addition. Unfortunately the ferrero rocher milkshake was very light on flavor, and the snickers tasted more like Reese's. I guess I expected to have some more chocolate flavor and caramel flavor. I love Reese's, so it wasn't bad in the least, just not what I thought I would be getting when ordering a snickers. The owners were the two people working that day. They were very sweet. I don't know how much we will frequent because we paid $28 for four desert items- none of which are even what seems are their specialty which I'm assuming are there waffles given the name. When we are planning to spend over $50 for our family of 4, we may try it again- this day we were just trying to kill time and decided to get a little treat which turned into a very expensive outing. read more

Both of the items we ordered were amazing, the Wondershakes come in a Mason style jar (available for purchase) and a boba straw, it was topped with Fresh made whipped cream, not the normal sugar laden versions! It reminded me of the days my Mom would make it fresh with the old fashioned O2 whipped cream dispenser from the 50-60's. Topped with a lovely drizzle of chocolate sauce. The shake was delicious and smooth, not overly sweet nor the McD concrete consistency. Our "THE CLASSIC #1" Waffel, Strawberries, Banana & Kiwi in an impressive size waffle topped with chocolate sauce and a dusting of powdered sugar. Garnished with name & two hearts because we shared The waffle was perfectly made with a crunch, not overly sweet nor loaded with the typical amounts of sodium- this low sodium gal really appreciated that! Next time I will definitely get my own! The inside was very clean, lightly decorated, music playing in the background, many tables to choose from to sit and enjoy their delicious food options.
