I would give a lower rating if there was one. This place should be turned into the Health Department for poor hygeine, dirty throughout including the bathrooms, maintenance not kept up to date (broken sign out front, doors on ladies' room stalls broken, benches in booths badly cracked with stuffing coming out, ice cream machine broken and stuffed in a dirty corner), etc. I had always been a big fan of this place approx 4-5 years ago. We happened to stop in today and should of just walked back out. The soup was about the only item that was edible. Since there were hardly any patrons there, food had been allowed to sit on the steaming trays for too long. It was no longer fresh and it was drying out. I stopped by at the height of Lunch Rush between Noon and 1 PM. I was mainly craving sushi. What I saw was one piece of salmon nigiri and three pieces of tuna. No sushi "chef" present to keep churning out the product. Or to notice that many items were depleted. None of the other seafood items were especially appealing. But I was disgusted when i bit into what was a MOLDY piece of coconut cake. It looked fine on top, I should've checked the bottom of the cake. It was covered in mold. My mother and I decided on a whim to go to woochi's. Upon arrival the seater greeted us and quickly sat us at a table. We ordered our drinks and headed straight to the buffet. Immediately I noticed that the sushi overpowered every other smell in the place. Granted fish is supposed to smell but this was a rotten smell as if the sushi had been out for hours. I then made my way to the chinese food and it was very clear that almost everything had been out for some time as the food seemed dry and anything with sauce had been mostly absorbed. That's fine (not really) I just picked out the best of what I liked. My mother on the other hand headed straight for that crab as that is her favorite. She filled her plate and grabbed a small bowl of butter. Instantly she noticed the butter was off and tastless. She brought it up to an employee and he went to grab a fresh pan but this one was no different. After taking it back to the table we noticed the butter seperating from another liquid. This was disgusting! After bringing it up to an employee she brushed us off and walked away. We continued eating and about 5 minutes later the same employee came up to us and told us the butter had just been put out fresh. We told her we knew and that it didn't matter. She and another employee shortly argued with us about this. It was clear they did not care and had no intention of doing anything about this mystery liqud they tried passing off as butter. We didn't eat much after that as our appetite had mostly diminished. I wouldn't bring my dog here much less myself again! read more

I only have it a 1 star because there is no "0" star. We have been going to WooChi since they opened. We have NEVER had a bad meal there.... Until the other day. Spring rolls were all mush, bbq ribs were dry and burnt (adding sauce to try and hide the dry burnt rib), crab salad had an awful taste to it, the low mien was terrible....told the cashier and she just laughed and said they ordered a different type of frozen spring roll than they normally do.... Didn't say anything about any of the other items and proceeded to ring up our bill at full price..... Time to look for another restaurant to take its place!'nnn read more

As far as Chinese buffets go, this is a good one. It's very American. It's always busy. There are always tons of snowbirds. All that aside, it's always clean. The staff is always attentive and thankful for your business. I like that there are good sushi options, and Char Siu Bao, Dou Sha Bao, seaweed, octopus and sweet coconut dumplings. The old folk usually aren't rushing those tables, so I get what I want. The buffet also has all of your usual buffet fare, with a Mongolian grill, hot dishes, desserts, salads and stuff like soup, pizza and even a chocolate fountain. I am wary of the chocolate fountain's sanitation. How many Augustus Gloops have floated in there? As tempting as warm, flowing chocolate is, I can't. I am a sucker for the sugar peanuts though! I feel like such a glutton when I'm here, but we all need one of those days a time or two! I do just enough to feel satisfied, and grab only what I know that I love. A cut above your typical Chinese buffet. Popular with locals and the senior set. 20-minute wait for a table before 6:00 pm, but good humor in the line. Wait staff attentive and polite, even when they try to wisk away a plate from which you haven't yet finished. Good selection of old favorites plus some you don't see enough, like Mongolian beef. Sushi also popular, but ribeye steak from Hibachi grill was kinda tough. Clean place with fresh food brought out regularly. Soft-serve ice cream machine, but only dishes and no cones (*sigh*). Place has liquor license, and some of the wine offerings seemed pretty reasonable. Prices seemed good, but there is a posted two-hour maximum (sorry Homers). Like many restaurants in the Mesa/Phoenix area, closing times on the weekend (9:30 pm) seemed early to this East Coaster. Will go again! read more

I waited until I had eaten here twice before leaving this review just to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke. This buffet is one of the worst I have been to and I've easily been to 12+ over the past 20 years. Their heat lamps must not work well because the only food that tastes hot is the stuff that has just been brought out from the kitchen. I tried just about everything and most of the food was barely warm. The egg fu yung patties look tiny. The egg rolls are so heavily breaded I didn't even want to try one. The spring rolls aren't half bad though. The breaded shrimp I tried was so nasty that I spit it out into a napkin. Honestly, the Mongolian grill might be good in the back of the buffet but I was afraid to try it. Raw meat sitting out in a place like this makes me nervous. The two times I went here it was lunch time one day and dinner time the next visit. I only saw two people between both visits that ordered from the grill. The desert cakes are just store bought cakes, same as the cookies. If you go Lee Lee International market you can buy the desert items straight from the source. Their price is WAY too high for such a small buffet with very little selection! Not sure how they ended up with an average four star rating but maybe to the folks in East Mesa and Apache Junction this is good food? Not exactly a culinary hot spot out here! read more

UNBELIEVABLE. We used to go to #1 Eastern Buffet (now WooChi Buffet) up to three times a week. We recently went later on a week night, 1 1/4 hour before their posted closing hour. The food trays were empty, or almost empty... The "FOOD" (IF ANY) looked like congealed GLOP.... GLOP: GOOEY SLOP. The servers were racing around removing dirty dishes and wiping down tables... No attention to us at all after delivering glasses of water, Water glasses delivered with dirty, wet hands from cleaning tables. EEK! There were black things floating in my soda as if my glass had never been washed. When I pointed it out to the waitress she gave me attitude. The quality of their food is incredibly lacking. Their Mongolian grill meat is bathed in some sort of beige meat goo, and even after they've added seasoning it tastes as bland as eating paper. The good ones: hot and sour soup, fried shrimp, pot stickers. But the rest of our choices were not good: beef roast looked great, but we could barely cut, let alone chew it. Gave up. Same problem with teriyaki ribs. Chicken skewers were dry and cold. Saw king crab legs on others' plates, but that tray was empty throughout our visit. We have been customers of this restaurant for many years. Recently it changed ownership and it was redecorated. We love their sushi bar and the seafood, other buffets don't even come close to the quality of their food and service.
