We've been coming here for years but tonight's delivery was not the best. We ordered a roll, fried rice, spring rolls and a 4 piece sashimi. The sashimi was twice as thick, no sauce to dip it in. We ordered 5 different dishes all were not good. I ordered teriyaki chicken, which should be bulletproof but it was definitely not freshly cooked and just inedible. We've been coming to Zushi for years and have always enjoyed the food. However, tonight we walked in and the sewer smell was overwhelming. We ended up walking out before we ever ordered anything. I hope they fix this issue. A smell that strong would make any food completely unappealing. read more

The sushi at zushi is top tier and the fish is always fresh. I've been coming here for a very long time however I've come to realize that the smell inside of the restaurant is almost unbearable. It's very hard to want to sit inside and eat that's why I get a to go order now every-time. There has to be something done to take care of the awful smell inside as it is unbearable to be inside of this restaurant for more than 5 minutes. We had a group of seven of us with a reservation for 6p and had our choice of two seating options. We went with a round table, which had a lazy susan in the middle. It made it fun to turn it and to share items or to easily get the soy sauce. Service was done well by the gal assigned to us. Those who ordered sushi were very pleased. I ordered the pad thai and it was just okay. We were surprised they had TVs playing football. The vibe that night was like being at a sushi sports bar. I have given this place many opportunities and tonight was the final straw. We arrived at 6:30. Ordered pad thai, three rolls and sashimi. Pad thai came out before our sushi, then tried to give us some one else's order. Once we told them it wasn't ours, it was clear they gave our order to another table. They came by 10 minutes later with a story about how their ticket printer was broken for five minutes but they fixed it. Th lat was a lie considering the table next to us ordered sushi right after we did and they got their sushi before we did. Finally our food came and it still wasn't right. We've patronized this establishment several times and have been very happy with the food and service! Our server, Mason, has done an excellent job each time we've been there. He's happy and very efficient at his job. We enjoyed 4 entrees. Kung Pao chicken, Happy Family, Szechaun chicken, and the Orange chicken. Also added egg rolls and fried rice. Most of the time 4.5 stars occasionally 3 stars. Not totally consistent here but when they are on they are really on which is most of the time. Staff is awesome during the day. Never been during dinner time. Not the most innovative rolls but well made and wasabi and ginger are on point. Well.. I don't usually do review on take out since it's really not the same as sitting down and getting dish made to order on a plate. But oh boy... I guess that's what I get for ordering Chinese food at "Japanese Bistro". I would give it one star but I have not tried the Japanese side of the food.. But I doubt I would ever go back here again. So bad it wasn't even worthy of taking pics. Ordered orange chicken, schezwan garlic beef, and beef lo mein noodle dish. The 3 dishes cost me $59 . Orange chicken was well maybe triple fried chewy chicken with no orange flavor. You ever eat something where it taste like it's been fried over and over? Yeah.. That was the chicken.. Very hard and chewy chicken.. Chezwan garlic beef, looked more like garlic beef with some chillies thrown in there. Lo mein was actually better tasting of all three dishes. Have you ever eat those beef at some dumpy Chinese restaurant and you chew on the beef and they are slimy and chewy? Yeah this place had them. For having a title as Bistro I was surprised to taste the meat at such low quality and questonal texture. Not to mention price was not cheap for the quality of the food. You know it's bad after you eat and you are thinking to yourself.. Dang.. I think I would have had better luck at panda express... Only plus side of this place was that they gave me good size rice with the dishes... So. Yeah I would never come back to this place. read more

We've been coming to Zushi many years now, and seen a see-saw of great to not so great times. Overall the place is nothing super-exciting to describe and it has seen better days, some of the booths aren't quite so new anymore and overall it could do with a reno in my opinion. There's a Teppanyaki section in the front of the restaurant but as yet we haven't tried it, haven't seen it in use much at all, but we mostly go during the week. My favorite is the Nigiri Fresh Eel but this last time it was awful : I'm not a sushi chef but in Italy I ate a lot of eel in Veneto (a region there) and these two pieces tasted like they were prepared before service and heated in a microwave !! Not what I expected or wanted, and had a heated leftover taste in my mouth. It's a shame because we enjoyed it when prepared properly on previous visits- new chef? - but I'm glad I only ordered one portion and not the usual two. The Shrimp Tempura was crispy if a tad oily, but compared to the eel it was great. We also had a California roll which was tasty and fresh, and for drinks we stuck with our usual orders: beer and sake for hubby and a purple haze for me; mine used to be served with a lovely fresh flower.. but now not anymore :( The gal serving our table was very nice and helpful, sorry I didn't catch her name; I likely won't order my Nigiri Eel again after this disappointment, but we'll keep going to Zushi's because after all it's local and friendly. read more

I have been coming to Zushi for years. I feel they have the yummiest Las Vegas rolls, which are my favorite, and I have had many varieties at different sushi places here in the valley. They are also a pretty big size, which is nice! They have a teppanyaki area that I have never utilized, but I have seen families enjoying it. I love their crunchy roll, their salt and pepper wings, and the Murphy roll is to DIE for. So delicious. Always hot and fresh. The waitresses/waiters have always been very nice. They did an update to the inside of the restaurant as well in the past few years, which was badly needed. They re-upholstered the booths and updated the decor and it's much nicer now. They have a great little bar area with TV's up so customers can watch the games. They also have outside seating, which is nice in the Winter/Spring months. I also want to add they are next to THE cutest gelato place and bakery/pastry place which is so nice to get a treat at after. Give them a try! read more

This place has a lot of potential. Lots of room with comfortable booths and nice looking bar seating. I hope we just came at an off time/day because we really want to like this place. Soo long review short: I think the fryer is too cold...the two fried rolls and order of vegetable tempura were all three a little oily and soggy + kindof pale (nothing even approaching golden or crispy). Potstickers are done well (but just the typical frozen wholesale). Miso soup is also nice but could stand to be a little stronger. Regular sushi is good/fresh but a little crumbly. We will give it another chance & come for dinner or teppan. Maybe coming a little later in the day will give them a chance to wake up. read more

Zushi Ihwa is such a hard worker, it was extremely busy but still she took time to answer questions. I was not unhappy with her service. I loved my sashimi. One of the two rolls I really didn't like, I am not sure which one it was but it was deep-fried cucumber on the outside. The sushi chef did nothing wrong, it just wasn't my preference. I was extremely happy with the other role. We split a large beer, it was really cold and served with a frosted glass. I love the miso, My husband said it was one of the best he's ever had. We really enjoyed stopping there after a hot day on the river. I WOULD recommend. read more

Have gone here for years love sunny beaches roll sweet and sour chicken, veggies fried rice and spicy edamame. Great cocktail s and good pour with wine. Sit at the bar and watch your favorite sports. They also offer teppanyaki and have a wonderful outdoor patio for our cooler weather. read more

Odd for a Friday night on the sushi bar side. 8:30pm and the service to be seated and get served was odd, way off per norm. Management change? Since when do staff start and keep counting money in front of customers an hour and a half before closing time?... while people are waiting to give their orders and be served? The food was good, per usual. Minus - they were out of certain bar makings so I could not get the drink I wanted. Someone forgot to wipe it off the SPECIAL menu they always have lit up on the wall. It just felt somewhat uninviting. Took a while to be noticed. Bartender tried to make it up to us. If we were new customers we might have walked out and gone across the street to the other sushi place. They can do so much better - management needs to step up...please. We adore the food! Came in on Tuesday evening around 8:30 and was very aware that was close to close but took a chance and saw a table sitting still in there and decided to take a chance, we waited for 5 minutes before being talked to and they said very coldly that their kitchen closed at 8:30 (when we walked in but had to wait 5 min before acknowledged) and the bar was open only. I totally understand closing but wish we would've been greeted a little kinder and warmer. read more

Frequented this place often, but this past weekend, a family member was eating here when a man pulled out a gun, threatened them and ended up fleeing the scene. Zushi informed them that since the man fled the scene to avoid arrest, there is an extra balance due at the table and charged my family member extra for it. Unbelievable. First you get a gun pulled on you by a patron, then, since police arrived and were taking statements the remaining food was over cooked and neglected, order was also incorrect, and to top it off, was then made to pay extra for the food since the unrelated, unknown man had fled. Shameful handling of the situation by Zushi and makes me never want to return here again. read more

We've been looking for a good sushi place to eat since moving here to Mesa and we finally found it. We came in for the happy hour and order a California roll and Over The rainbow roll but instead of getting them both made with steamed rice we had the fun option of having them made with fried rice and I can honestly say that they were butter with the fried rice it was something definitely different on our taste buds. We also purchased pot stickers that were super yummy I highly recommend them maybe even more than one order if you enjoy eating them. The waiter was supper friendly so I definitely give this place more than 5 stars for their creative rice for your roll options and great customer service. I quite enjoy eating at Zushi. I always order the garlic chili edamame and often order the Las Vegas roll as it is delicious! I have also had the Nacho Mama roll which is yummy, the rainbow roll, the Philadelphia roll, and several others. This isn't my favorite sushi place, but my fellow East Mesa residents will agree when I say it might be one of the best food options we have in this area. The ambiance in the restaurant is great and service is always kind. Takeout is not very quick, so expect that when picking up an order. They also do Tepanyaki which I originally worried about as I thought it might be too much for one restaurant, but it is really good and doesn't diminish the wait staff quality. read more

Update to my prior review. I'm glad I can up the stars, this round! ...I'm one of those who never settles with the first impression- gotta go back for more, just to be sure! And, this is one of those times it has paid off. First- there is a HUGE difference between delivery platforms. Come to find out, I was able to select a plethora of menu options via GrubHub that were NOT offered on DoorDash with my prior order a few weeks ago. So, you really are getting cheated if you aren't using the right platform! But, you're also going to pay more of a delivery fee, using the latter that offers the entire menu. A bone I'd like to pick with Zushi. The same menu should be offered regardless of delivery entity! And, maybe start offering your own delivery, because I'm not going to opt again after forking our $7 for less than 5 miles! I didn't make the same mistakes as my prior order. And, this one turned out relatively better. I loved the pot stickers. You just cannot go wrong with those! So, those not disappointed this round. The extra side of dipping sauce was much appreciated! I opted for the miso soup. I would have liked a different option- but the others were $10 minimum- for soup?! Yikes. Why is miso soup the only "small" option??? But, I do appreciate the broth was provided with the contents on the side, to ensure it didn't sog before being eaten. Thank you for the consideration! The sushi roll this round was just "ok". I kind of expected more, paying nearly $15 for one roll! I opted for the Spider Roll. And, it was a bit smaller than expected. (I make my own, usually, so I'm quite educated on HOW to make a proper roll.) Not a whole lot inside this one. The tempura topping was entirely soft, not enough topping to begin with. By the time delivery occurred, the ginger & wasabi was dry, since no lids were placed on the containers. Edible, but not the best. Placing the container directly between hot containers was not smart. ...nor was the soup tilted to the side, leaking. I opted for a meat based main dish instead of noodles since the Pad Thai last round was no bueno. I'm a sucker for the mu-shu pancakes! Pork mu-shu was at best, "ok". The pancakes were great! But, like most main dishes for oriental cuisine... there was a LOT of cabbage & fillers, but not a whole lot of meat. The meat that was provided was a tad on the "dry" side. So, I appreciated it comes with a side of rice to balance it all out. Opt for the fried rice. It's only $1 more! Beats the heck out of the bland, plain that has sat the entire day. I learned that from the last round. And, the fried rice actually has flavor! I was impressed with the quantity, and that it was very decently flavored without being overly salty. The second chance here was definitely better than the first round! This is one place I do think my opinion would be much different opting to dine-in... and I will give that a chance once it is safe to do so outside of this pandemic. For now- I appreciate the option of delivery. I just feel like the cost is rather steep for what is actually provided. And I can't get over the insane difference in menu options and delivery fees between platforms. I'm going to entirely quit using the third parties at this point, because they don't seem to communicate well with the actual establishments & as a customer, I feel like I'm getting the brunt of it. read more

Was reluctant to try because of other recent reviews however I was pleasantly impressed. Was seated right away, and although our waitress kept having to be reminded to bring sweet n low and extra side of sauce, the chicken yakisoba, Philadelphia roll and Las Vegas rolls were delish. I've been here several times. They used to have a great 2 for 1 teppanyaki special. Sushi always seems fresh and food comes out quickly which is nice. Everybody who works here is always friendly. They have a large outdoor patio and are dog friendly. I will definitely go back. read more

Here we go and sorry for the Mr. grinch post but it would have happened Christmas or not. This place is a no. Yelp reviews are correct. Not good. First and foremost. I feel terrible after eating here. So much salt the food taste was pretty bad except the garlic edamame. The lunch menu was so extensive and so out of order and unorganized I was losing my mind. If I wanted a bento box it was listed on the front and then in the inside of 15 different options. Anyways it was a nightmare to view everything. I ended up getting the beef and broccoli, bad decision. The beef tasted so rubbery and drenched in so much sauce and I probably ate a whole tub of salt. The meat at Taco Bell is better than this. The broccoli was fine and I subbed the rice for more broccoli and didn't get charged which is nice. I didn't even touch the egg roll because it was so burnt and looked pretty bad. I tried the noodles my brother got and those were awful too. The place wasn't busy at all and the service was ok, nothing special and nothing exciting. They also don't have just a cup of hot and sour. I would assume if you sell a cup for $2 or whatever more people would order it than having a huge bowl. I didn't get it. I read the health score and it made think to just stick my finger down my throat later because I didn't know if I would be sick and I could just prevent it from happening all together. Friday night out with friends. We selected a local restaurant ZUSHI that one friend said was a Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant. So we arrived at 5:30 and were promptly seated at the teppanyaki oven table. I saw that they also served Sushi so that was my selection. The other 3 ordered the teppanyaki. Two beef and one Salmon. I ordered Octopus, Salmon, Salmon roe and a Spider roll. The miso soup and salads were served while the Teppanyaki warmed up the grill. After a few minutes he cooked a flaming onion volcano. About this time my food came out . The chef was kind of boring he did the usual things like the volcano and squirting ketchup at the patrons made of red string but no real personality. The teppanyaki diners all said that their food was good. My roll was ok not put together very tight so when you picked it up it fell apart. The rest of the sushi was fair. (Our go to Sushi is Sekai Sushi on Gilbert and Southern.). Because the Teppanyaki tables were not busy we were able to visit without being pushed out. Overall it was a good experience but not one where I can't wait to go back. read more
