A friend had warned me about this office in Monroe but nearby so went a few times for a simple procedure-10 minutes max. Today I made the mistake of asking questions about the charges on my previous bill, and "dr." short fuse came out to the waiting room and asked if I'd like to go to the emergency room and spend 3-4 hours and maybe get seen or not...or want him to treat the situation. Of course I was there to solve a problem but asked if I'm not allowed to ask questions. I said my insurance plan must not be covering certain things now to which he replied, "I'm not your insurance company" and walked off. If I had not been in pain, I would have left. He came in as if he hadn't been rude and condescending, treated the eye. As I was leaving the office, none too happy...he said "or I could put them back" (the eyelashes poking my eyeball). Unacceptable Wait Time and Poor Service I had a simple appointment today that turned into a 3.5-hour ordeal for something that shouldn't take anywhere near this long. First, I waited 40 minutes just to get called in, then another 39 minutes to see a doctor. The entire appointment took over 3.5 hours--for something as simple as an appointment, not surgery. The receptionist was rude, and it's obvious they don't care about managing their time or treating patients with respect. This place is unprofessional, and I won't be coming back. Don't bother with this company if you value your time and peace of mind haha. I have had multiple issues with this company. Every time I call over the phone there is some kind of problem. Either staff is incapable of properly managing a phone call or they just are absolutely clueless as to how to help you. Staff is inefficient, unprofessional and unhelpful. Speaking to their office manager was simply irritating and a waste of time. Not really sure why I was giving them so much benefit of the doubt, but I won't be coming back. read more

I had a stigmatism. It came out of nowhere in my youth. I was told corrective lenses would help. They never did, and I wore them every day. At the time glasses were the cheaper option, I was an active child, so it was very frustrating. Well, 22 years of wearing glasses, 2 years at Wood Eye Care, and my stigmatism is gone , some technology! I'd feel comfortable recommending them to anyone! please consider more round frames :) read more

Nice people, poor quality product/lab they use. Lack of responsibility/ownership for their errors. Brought in my own frames and had them make a pair of transition lenses for me. After two weeks they called and said they made a mistake and needed to reorder my lenses, which would take another two weeks. No consolation for their error and having to wait a month for my glasses (I've gotten glasses in a week or less from every other eyeglass place I've ever been). After about a year the UV protection starts peeling off of the lens causing crazing and peeling all the way around the edge of both lenses. In 25 years of wearing glasses I've never seen this happen. Took them in only to have them say it was likely a defect in making the lens but I'm outside of warranty so I'm SOL. Really infuriating to pay more than you would at a chain lab only to receive an inferior product that couldn't even last for a year. Then to have them acknowledge their lab error and not offer any consolation is a slap in the face. Terrible business practices. Being nice and offering a quality product should not be mutually exclusive. read more

Went to have exam but took prescription to another provider because their selection of frames were much more than my insurance, VSP, would cover. Got my glasses & couldn't read the computer. Took them back & was informed that the lenses were made according to the script & that I needed to go back to the doctor about the script. Called Wood about coming in & was informed that there was a $39 "trouble-shooting fee" because we didn't purchase glasses from them. VSP calling them because they never heard of such a thing being charged by one of their providers. read more

My family and I have seen Dr. Jim for almost 25 years, and he is absolutely wonderful! He is both professional and personable. Over the years, he has provided superb care with routine eye exams, glasses, and contacts in addition to many eye emergencies and situations (detached retina, corneal tears, etc). He alerted us to potential difficulties and followed through when referring to specialists. I highly recommend him and am grateful for his wonderful practice! read more

I am mind blown!!! I don't even want to leave a review but ... hopefully you are smarter then me and actually look at the reviews before coming here. I got my eye glasses here and never felt comfortable. The woman at the front desk are cold and unwelcoming. No smiles. No "hello" nothing. Weeks pass I get my glasses and move on. (My dons also came here and his glasses have done done nothing lens pop none stop!) I needed my contact renewal paperwork and called SEVEN TIMES, text them weekly, nothing... today I finally got a call back. Anna the "manager" was the most rude employee I have ever talked to!!! My mind is blown. Being a business owner myself I can't fathom how this place is even standing with a staff like this. I am not going to mine by line what was said back and forth BUT this manager or so she calls herself said things like "you can go somewhere else", "well, I just show two VM not sure what happened to the others" snarky.. just nasty! This company is awesome. They take their time and perform a lot of testing. Service and the way they treat you is excellent. You can actually see through your new glasses, not what I've experienced with most eye care companies. Most companies rush you during the eye exam. Also, they allow you to re-use your old frames if you need to. After my husband and I moved to Hilton Head SC, we have to find someone in our area. I am very saddened by this. The best place you could possibly go for eye care and glasses! I only started needed vision correction a few years ago and my first experiences with optometrists was horrific. Then I went to Wood Eye Care and can't believe the incredible difference in care from the doctor and support team including reception and billing. I practically look forward to my check up! I broke my frame earlier this week and dropped in without an appointment. They had a look and ordered me new frames under warranty. They did a temp repair and I was on my way in 10 minutes. They contacted me 3 days later to come in and get them. Its like they were waiting for me. I was in and out and all set to go in just a few minutes. FANTASTIC! read more

I wish I could give them NO stars. Sounds harsh but that's the reality! I came here for an annual eye exam and contact fitting. I had never worn contacts before so I was nervous and the staff was no help. The woman at the front desk is very rude, catty and sarcastic on every occasion I've come in contact with her. This was the first time I was going to try contacts, and during my fitting the assistant was impatient and didn't make the process easy. First, they insisted that they insert the contact into my eye first before I could try it myself, even though I had already sat through the instructional video that made it very clear how to do it. With someone's finger coming at my eye, it was very hard to keep my eye open, as it was my natural and uncontrollable instinct to blink. The assistant quickly became impatient and literally made me feel stupid that I couldn't keep my eye open for him to essentially poke his finger in my eye. After two hours, the assistant finally got the contact in and let me try the next one, in which case it only took me less than a minute to do it myself. If they'd just let me do it myself to begin with it could've been done and over with. I don't wish for anyone to experience the horrible attitudes of the staff here so I am writing this review. Dr. Wood himself is very kind and humorous, but his staff are unbelievably unkind, rude, and impatient. read more

This is by fare the worst experience that I have ever had. Over 3 weeks and still my glasses were not back. The staff was nice and professional, but that is it. Lack of communication and to many excuses . I would never ever go back there for anything and I have worn glasses for over 40 years. I would never recommend this place . read more

I've been coming here for over 10 years now. Today's visit was nothing like what I'm used to. There are new people in the office, whom I do not know. The person who took me back to preform pretest before the actual exam at no time did she introduce herself to me nor did she explain the test that were being done. There is a new machine that I've never seen before that was used. It was not explained what it was or what it does. The exam by the optometrist went very well and she explained everything in layman's terms. If it wasn't for her care the score would be negative 5 stars if that was possible. At the end of the exam I advised them I was not buying glasses but I needed my PD. Instead I was given a prescription with the PD already written on it. When I inquired about how my PD was already on there-was it done by the machine, the young man stated "oh no it was from your last time you bought glasses here which was in 2018." I figured it must have changed so I inquired of that and he said it usually doesn't change but if you really want me to get your PD I will. If that's what a customer asks for I would think you would do that especially since I haven't had new glasses for several years. BTW my PD did change since my last pair of glasses there. I also inquired about an appointment. The optometrist told me I needed to come back in 6 months. The appointment time is either 9:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. there are no other times available. I was told it messes up their schedule. I was also told that I will be contacted closer to that date to see if they would be able to accommodate me or not. I was then told "well it's your eye health." I will not refer anyone to this location. I myself will not return for a follow-up. I will begin looking for a new optometrist. read more

I got my glasses last year - they cost over $700 out of pocket! Three different times I called to say that I could not see clearly - each time I was told "just give them time - your eyes need to adjust". This place is amazing. I had an object strike my eye during yard work, so I called them the very next morning. I was not even an established patient and the office staff was very caring, and was able to squeeze me in before they closed at 1. Dr. Wood was amazing, and all his staff was amazing as well. Very knowledgeable and caring staff. Treatment was quick and efficient and I'll be sure to return. I was even in early for my appointment, and out the door by time my official appointment was even going to begin. I have recently come back to Wood Eye Care after many years of going somewhere closer to my home. Dr. Susan is and always has been very thorough and puts her patients at ease. I have worn contacts for over 20 years, and Dr. Susan is the first optometrist I have seen in awhile that looked at my eyes WITH the contacts in (for fit, condition of lenses, etc.) in addition to checking prescription, etc. with contacts out. Wood Eye Care also had vision testing machines I had never used before, in addition to the standard ones that I am used to. I left feeling very satisfied that my eyes were in good shape. The staff and assistants were all very friendly and professional. I did not shop for glasses in the store, but they appeared to have a great variety of very stylish frames. read more

Dr. Lay is the best thing about this place. She's in incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind. She explained every part of my exams and any concerns I had. I hate having to ask too many questions because I feel like it's bothersome, but she was so informative and succinct. She told me everything I needed to know and answered every question I had without me having to ask, but she didn't drag on about anything. Waited over 45 minutes to be seen for an Emergency appointment. Had to eventually leave without ever being seen. When I asked the staff how much longer it would be, they seemed confused about my appointment time. Seems if you are there for an emergency, your appointment might should be prioritized over regular eye exam. read more

I went for my appt. and the waiting room had to be 85 degrees. It wasn't a deal where I could just go on in and get my annual exam. They handed me a clip board with paperwork to fill out. I cancelled my appointment and left. When I got home I went to their website and all the papers they wanted me to fill out were right there in printable files on their website. They had called me twice to remind me of my appointment but never mentioned that I had to fill out paperwork. The same paperwork that I'd filled out a couple of years ago. I run a business and I don't have the extra time for them to waste. If I have an 11 am appt. that's when I expect them to take me back and start my exam. This was not the first time that they wasted my time but it will be the last. I guess I should add that the Oriental lady who did my exam the last time I was there was very thorough and I felt like she really cared about my eye health. read more

I had no problems getting an appointment for my son. The staff was friendly and understood my time constraints and made it possible. Dr. Lee was fantastic with him and very patient while she checked his vision. Al was super helpful finding a suitable frame and explaining the differences between our lens options. I enjoyed my visit with Dr. Wood he's great, however when you have a rude and inconsiderate office manager that can be a horrible reflection on the business. I had records to indicate my purchase was on 5/30/2015 not 6/2/2015, granted not a big difference in the days but it is when the insurance starts over on 6/1/2015 and you never used the insurance from 5/1/2015. I tried to explain to the office manager that I was at work that day and it was no way I could have come in on that date. The office manager accused me of lying as well as went as far to ask me did I remember what I had for lunch that date. This was such a horrific incident. I asked to speak with her boss she explained it's no one higher than her. I tried to email Dr. Wood but had no results. For this business to be a small practice you would think they take customer service serious instead of ignoring complaints made by the customers. I do plan to go the office this week to get more clarification on this matter. read more

Dr. Lee was great. No pressure to buy anything I didn't need. Spent a lot of time explaining how to best care for my eyes and contacts.

I have been using Wood Eye Care for years and Dr. Lee is good. However, this office staff needs to be replaced. They were supposed to order contacts for me. Three weeks later they had not placed the order. Called back 4 times before I hear from them. Three weeks after they supposedly placed the order still no contacts and two more phone calls without returns. Wood Eye Care in Lawrenceville, GA is absolutely top notch. We have been patients here for several years, and never once have we been disappointed in the exam, the prescription, the frame selection, or the fit. This is truly a business that is dedicated to serving the customers. A few years ago I admit that I tried going to a optical chain at a nearby mall. After three times returning for lenses to be replaced (there were flaws in the lenses because of the materials used), I vowed to never return to one of these places.
