There are several tables outside in the summer though. The gluten free double chocolate chip cookie is unmatched. It tastes like a brownie but it's perfectly chewy. Everything I've had there has been good! In the heart of a neighborhood so perfect to grab a treat and get a walk in after.

I was hoping…read moreto grab a sandwich around 10:30am, but was told the baguettes would not be ready until around 11, and the sandwiches would not be ready until about 11:30. Since we were not in a rush, the weather was nice, and there were a few tables outside, we decided to wait it out. In the meantime, we ordered two madeleines, which were beautifully baked with a light orange flavor and were definitely the highlight of the visit. We took a walk around the neighborhood and came back at 11:30, only to find a limited number of "pescatarian" sandwiches while the ham and butter sandwiches would not be ready until noon. At that point, we decided to give up on the sandwich plan. Overall, I would still come back because the bakery itself was charming and the madeleines were excellent, but the timing around sandwich availability was frustrating and worth knowing ahead of time.

This shop is part of a larger chain but currently appears to be the only location in the Pittsburgh area. It's located in East Liberty and is really more of a bakery than a coffee shop. The inside is split about 50/50, with half dedicated to seating and the other half serving as a self-serve bakery. You grab a tray and tongs before walking around selecting whichever baked goods catch your eye. They also have display cases filled with cakes and other pastries that need to be kept refrigerated. For my coffee on this morning I went with a 16 oz hot honey lavender macchiato while my wife chose a 16 oz iced tiramisu latte. I have to admit that the name of my drink confused me a bit at first, but it ended up being a latte macchiato as expected. With that being said, I thought it was quite good. The lavender was light enough to be noticeable without overpowering the drink, while the honey added just the right amount of sweetness. The espresso was also present, especially on the finish, where it added both flavor and body. My wife also enjoyed her latte and appreciated the tiramisu flavors throughout. Outside of the coffee, we ordered a number of pastries. My wife chose the Crookie, which is a cookie baked on top of a croissant. My son picked out a chocolate-covered Belgian waffle, while my daughter chose the strawberry soft bread. All of them enjoyed what they ordered, and I think my wife especially loved the Crookie. As for me, I went a little overboard and chose a garlic and cheese croissant, a curry croquette, pork-dusted bread, and a sweet taro cream bread. All of them were delicious in their own way. The garlic and cheese croissant was a nice savory option, with plenty of garlic flavor and a crispy cheese crust. The curry croquette had wonderful warming spices that made it especially flavorful. The pork-dusted bread was definitely the most unusual item. The pork topping reminded me of Wild Bill's Beef Jerky, and somehow those savory flavors worked really well on top of the crunchy laminated bread. Last but certainly not least was the taro cream bread. I was impressed by how light it felt despite being packed with an impressive amount of cream filling. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I'm a sucker for bakeries like this and clearly ordered far more than my waistline needed, but everything I tried was enjoyable. While the coffee was good, the pastries are the real reason to visit, with the coffee serving as an excellent complement.

My husband also enjoyed the almond croissant. We have also enjoyed cookies and cheesecake. The egg custard pastry is so creamy and delicious. The butter Madeleine is buttery goodness. Every weekend…read morewe try to visit a new local coffee shop, and on this morning we decided to go to Bunny Bakes. This actually was not our first choice or even where we were headed next, but it is where we ended up. Inside, the shop has a large front area filled with pastries on display, followed by plenty of seating toward the back. As we started placing our order, it was clear that our cashier had a disability. A quick look at their website explains their mission well, stating that they provide comprehensive training and career pathways for adults with disabilities, demonstrating that when workplaces are designed with accessibility and support in mind, everyone can contribute their unique talents and thrive. The cashier helping us was super nice, although definitely a bit chatty. After looking through the baked goods, my kids chose a red velvet cake pop and a snowflake sugar cookie. For my coffee this morning, I went with a hot gingerbread latte, while my wife chose an iced version. My coffee was good and clearly tasted like gingerbread, with plenty of sweetness and warming spices coming through. I did not get much coffee flavor, but that was not unexpected given how strong the gingerbread flavor was. My wife also enjoyed her iced gingerbread latte. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I enjoyed our coffees, my twins enjoyed their baked goods, and I really appreciate their mission of employing adults with disabilities.
