What? I've been coming here for years and haven't written a review! I've been coming to this particular location (before their expansion) since about 2017/2018. It'll always be my first impression and experience with good food and service at La Gourmandine. I'm still a fan nearly a decade later! You really can't go wrong with anything. All of their pastries are top-notch, especially the macaron cake. I recently tried their Opera Cake, and it was delicate and delicious. Their sandwiches and quiche are perfectly balanced. On the way to Homestead and thought I'd swing by La Gourmandine in Hazelwood (been to the downtown one many times). Quality here is on par with downtown (which is to say, excellent). The delice de pistache was fresh, light, and full of cream that wasn't over the top with being sweet. Same with the macaron aux fruits (the raspberries were super fresh and so was the vanilla pastry cream. The women working there were also very friendly. Wonderful place and would go again if I lived here (probably everyday!) Five stars. read more

After I tried one La Gourmandine Bakery last week, I am now on a mission to try *all* of the La Gourmandines! La Gourmandine serves sandwiches, quiches, cakes, pastries, croissants, and breads. Prices are roughly a few dollars per item. This location of La Gourmandine is located on road that has street parking and much traffic. I felt thankful to the drivers who stopped their vehicles so I could cross the street. As soon as I entered this bakery, an employee promptly and kindly greeted me. I selected three pastries, and my husband selected two croissants. Here are my reviews for the foods: Tarte au citron - 5 stars - This tart had a perfectly crispy crust and lemony custard filling. Tarte aux pommes - 5 stars - The crust was perfectly crispy, and the apples are top were delicious. Choux a la creme - 4.5 stars - The dough was fresh, and the whipped cream was rich. Croissant - 5 stars - This croissant was moist, flaky, and subtly flavorful. I've been a fan of their Lawrenceville location for a few years now, so I decided to stop by the Hazelwood shop on my way to work. I picked up a chocolate croissant and a small chocolate buche de noel. Both were phenomenal and exceeded the already high expectations that I have set for La Gourmandine. The shop is a cozy and warm retreat from the harsh winter weather here in Pittsburgh. Something about the atmosphere and friendly staff behind the counter just adds to the holiday joy! From my experiences now at multiple locations, you can't go wrong with any of their treats. I had to be in the Squirrel Hill area of town early one morning, so I stopped in here to see what they offered that might be good to start the day... Ended up trying a slice of quiche Lorraine, which they heated up for me... The inside was still cool and it had no meat or any real flavor to it... it was very disappointing. Visiting Pittsburgh for the weekend and had the pain au chocolat which reminded me of the croissant I had when I visited France, definitely delicious!! Went to the Post Office today and spotted La Gourmadine across the street -- I had always heard really good things about this bakery and was surprised to see how few reviews it had! We were greeted immediately upon entering. When they found out it was our first time, they let us sample the croquettes which were amazing!! Unfortunately did not get a picture, but they were small, bite-sized, pockets of fluffy sweetness. Definitely a good first impression! They gave us some suggestions of some of their popular items. The almond croissant is their most popular, which they let us know was double baked. It was buttery and rich with toasted almonds on top and an almond filling inside. I can see why it's their most popular. Their second most popular was the croissant aux amandes with a chocolate and cream filling. I love chocolate, so I knew I had to try this one. The chocolate chips were the perfect complement to the croissant. This was my personal favorite. We loved everything we tried and would definitely come back! My brother introduced this gem and whenever I visit him, this is my first stop. The staff is always very welcoming and friendly to have us there. When I showed up for an extra shift at work one morning and was assured they didn't need me, it was perfect timing to stop by the Second Avenue La Gourmadine Bakery on my way home. Contrary to the hours listed on Yelp, the place appeared to have just opened at 8:30am, as per Google. It smelled heavenly inside, and a line soon formed behind me. I opted for three pastries: a croissant aux amandes for me, a panier framboise for my partner, and an extra pain au chocolat. The first two looked delightful (see photo) and were good to eat, but to be truthful, they tasted less than fresh. The pain au chocolat kept well in a sealed plastic bag until the next day, and it was a delicious and filling breakfast. My partner and I come here weekly to get the Campagnard sandwich and a sweet treat surprise of some sort. Opening Day at La Gourmandine's 3rd Pittsburgh location in the Hazelwood area was a pleasant experience. What a wonderful addition to the ever changing neighborhood. Located on the main drag (Second Ave) across for the Post Office makes this an easy stop to find. There is parking on the street and a brand new side lot nearby for parking. This location is where Dimperio's Market used to be. Staff was helpful and friendly in helping all new visitors with their selections. The breads and the croissants are the first thing you will see when entering. (I am so getting the almond croissant next time) Everything looked amazing and it was a hard choice to make. We opted this visit for lunch to try the ham & swiss croissant, the quiche Lorraine and turkey & swiss on a baguette. Everything was fresh and tasty. They even offered to heat up our to-go items. The bread was crispy and light. We also brought a few sweets back to the office to share. This was especially difficult to decide. The macaroon looked amazing, as did all the other pastries. They were almost too beautiful to eat. But alas, although a difficult decision, we chose wisely and did devour the chocolate eclair and raspberry tart. Both were absolutely delicious! The tart was especially full of fruity flavor and was everyone's favorite. We can't wait to try more! THey have a large production place in the back. Maybe they do most of their baking here and then distribute all of their goodies to the rest of pittsburgh?! Ever since moving to Greenfield, it's been hard to get over to Butler street to get my pastry fix. Then I realized that I have a la gourmandine up the street from me!! Their pastries are fresher (maybe b/c I went right when they opened one day). The cashier was so much more friendly and excited to have us here. Less worry about parking on Butler street and definitely less wait. All of the pastries offered in the original location exist here as well. They added kouign amans as part of their regular baked goods- they used to not have it in the years before. They are not as good as Jean Marc's, which is a bit disappointing. Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you the best French bakery in all of Pittsburgh. I've been a regular patron of their Downtown location since it opened, and have been to the one in Lawrenceville a time or two as well. When we moved to Squirrel Hill, I was excited to be so close to the Mothership. I've rolled out of bed and thrown on some pants to make a run down the hill for La Gourmandine a few times, always opting for at least a few plain butter croissants, and usually throwing in a pain raisin, pain chocolat, and maybe a full on patisserie goodie as well. I'm glad that it's both close to me, and not on my way to anything, because I could be there every other day. I love this bakery so much! read more

With wonderful breads, delicious French pastries and fresh brewed coffee, this is a one stop shop for a Sunday morning or any other time. This bakery/cafe in Hazelwood is newly opened and is the third in Pittsburgh. The other two have developed strong followings as they offer a Parisian flavor and impeccable quality. I am certain this will be the same and reserve the opportunity to add another star to the review in the future. This is quite a coup for the Hazelwood neighborhood and hopefully a harbinger of continued community development. It is also quite convenient for Greenfield and other neighboring communities. They have a nice eat in cafe with good coffee to go along with their delicacies. I can imagine using them for takeout breads and desserts for meals, parties and the like. I discovered this bakery a bit over a week ago. It felt very daring to go into a bakery but i was wearing a mask and gloves and so was the person who waited on me. And other customers were observing social distancing. And everything was delicious! I particularly loved the small tarte aux pommes (apple tart). This would be a five-star review, except I decided to go back today. The website and Yelp both say they are open on Monday, but when I got there at 11:45, they were closed. Very disappointed, but of course these days there could be a lot of reasons. But they aren't very good at answering the phone so I am a bit hesitant to go back, as it is a bit of a drive from my place. read more

LOL I have managed to stop over in the morning on my drive through about 4 or 5 times now just to try different things and bring goodies to my coworkers. I was compelled to write this review today because I just had a lemon tart that was the best one I've ever had. I love pastries too and their almond and plain croissants are the best. I cannot explain to you how excited I was about this place opening. I found out over a year ago that the old Dimperio's market was going to be renovated and made into the third La Gourmandine location, and ever since then I have been anxiously waiting. I drive on second ave literally everyday to get to work, so I was constantly glancing at the location, and watched it slowly but surely become ready for business. I was able to attend the grand opening of this business, which was an awesome experience. I was one of the first 20 people in the door :) -it's a huge location, and where they will be baking the majority of their breads for the entire chain of bakeries. Just like the other locations, the service in this one is extraordinary and their food is unbelievably good. From the ham & swiss baquette sandwich, to their plain baquettes, to their croisants and their macaroons- everything is so tasty. I am so glad that Hazelwood has La Gourmandine, not only because I believe it's the start of something great in bringing this neighborhood back up & thriving, but also because it's only a 5 minute drive from my house ;) read more

My husband and I were thrilled when this location opened up because it is so convenient. It is right across the street from the Hazelwood library. We went on a Sunday morning and easily parked on the street in front of the building. Everything on the menu that we have had is delicious and fresh. Whatever you get I recommend adding a little Chouquettes or two. For just a few cents more why not try this delicious little bite of puffy heaven. They were doing a good business on our visit but it wasn't overly crowded so we grabbed one of the three high top tables to enjoy a coffee and la gourmandise filled with vanilla cream and chocolate chips (both were excellent). The woman behind the counter that helped us was delightful. She made some recommendations and was super friendly interacting with us and the other customers.
