So after a year I decided to retry this local establishment. My thought was that they have been opened for a little of a year so things could have improved. I thought wrong.. As a big fan of Mac n Cheese I thought I would get it with an add in of pulled pork.. When served it was like warm.. I asked if they could re warm it as I prefer my Mac to be hot.. So they brought me a new one.. And it was the exact same thing.. I was then told that they don't have a microwave so they just brought me a new one?? What?? So the second Luke warm dish was the normal.. Well I think I have learnt a lesson that once you have a bad experience some where chances are it will happen again.. We decided to give this place one last shot, as our go-to favorite was not open, and it we've observed that Woodchips seems to draw a crowd. We had been here a few times shortly after it had opened and had been unimpressed and basically took it off our list of places to eat in Lapeer. On the positive side , our waitress was attentive and friendly and service was efficient. We ordered drinks and the bbq egg rolls. The egg rolls were flavorful and different from the ordinary. My husband got the tart cider and didn't much care for it. I ordered the pulled pork tacos, it was a very generous portion served with tortilla chips and salsa and sour cream. That said, the tacos were kind of dried out and the cheese had gotten cold and was no longer gooey. My husband ordered the Tipsy Texan--which was brisket and smoked sausage in a wrap. The sausage kept wanting to slide out of the wrap and overall was just fair. We concluded that there just wasn't anything about the food that would bring us back. read more

We visited WoodChips again a couple weeks ago. The food, per usual, was fabulous!! The corn bread is fab - first time we tried It. The entire experience is a quick trip to a Texas roadside BBQ brisket. Need fried okra(hint). But here's the lost star. When the wait staff brought us our iced tea with lemon... A slice fell off the glass onto the table. The waitress quickly apologized, but then picked up the lemon and put it back on the glass rim. Eeeeeooowww. I cringed and said nothing. When she left I removed the slice and set it aside. Yuch! Who trains these people? She was excellent otherwise.... read more

We met friends here having never tried it before. We had the Woodchips Nachos, The Philly Steak sandwich, and a pulled pork sandwich. All were very good and came out rather quickly. The service was good, but it was rather loud. Food was great so I will be back for sure. read more

We used Woodchips as the caterer for our wedding on April 28th! I honestly cannot say enough good things about Patrick and his staff. Not only was the food hot and absolutely amazing, he made sure that our entire night proceeded flawlessly. Patrick had the entire evening organized and made sure that the stress was off of my husband and I the entire evening which I cannot thank him enough for. The attentiveness of the Woodchips staff was something that did not go unnoticed and I would recommend them for catering events 100 time over. So we went to Woodchips a few weeks ago and here's the review. I like the ambiance better then the food. We had hamburgers. I had the Panther, hubby had the Shroom. The burgers were impossible to pick up with your hands. The greasy caramelized onions on both burgers, along with the ailoi made the patty slide out and the bun collapsed. There were steak knives accompanying the plate to assist in the nontraditional way to eat a burger. The patty had no flavor it was bland except for black pepper. I don't know what their grind is but it's pretty tasteless. This was my second time at the restaurant. The first was a month earlier where I had pulled pork and green beans. The pork was pretty dry, and the green beans were quite salty. I guess when it come to bbq, really the only place to go, where you spend a little bit more money but have a delicious meal are the Union Wood shop and Slows. read more

Found the Woodchips BBQ place using the yelp app and that turned out being an excellent find! GREAT BBQ!! I had the pulled pork platter and the wife had the ribs. Both are great! You could taste the apple wood smoke in the meat that they use to smoke the meat. The place is not too big and the atmosphere is great. The wait staff was fast and friendly. I wish my town had a place like this! We will definitely make the drive to eat here again. read more

I have gone back to WoodChips twice since the last review. Love the place. I have ordered the same thing the Q with baked beans and French fries. The beans are great! And the Fries are the best around. Good service and good food, makes it hard to beat in Lapeer! read more

We ate here tonight. My wife had smoked turkey and I had beef. Both were very good. They were very busy tonight but seating was about 10 minutes and service was good for how busy they were. We will go back again read more

Visited this restaurant on 4/2/17. Have been there before and the food was good, as always. However, the waitress was horrible. We waited over 5 minutes for a menu after being seated. They were busy, but they had 3 waitresses, so there was enough staff to handle the rush. Waitress finally came to get our drink order, it took almost 10 minutes to get them (waters and lemonade, nothing hard about that). Our food sat in the window for at least 5 minutes before it was brought to us. Waitress never came back to check on how the food was. Busboy had to get refills for us. Other waitresses were moving around and getting their tables waited on and out in a reasonable time. We were there for over an hour. The food is enough to make us go back again, but this particular waitress would have prevented us if not for our previous experience. read more

We are locals and love eating here. Best wings Anywhere! They are smokey and a little messy and Awesome. Really good fries too, crispy and wonderful. They have great sandwiches, sweet potato fries and Brussels Sprouts with balsamic that are a perfect appetizer. read more

Husband and I shared a half pound of the chopped beef brisket and we were not disappointed. Deborah waited on us but another gal also gave us service that was appreciated. All the staff was great and very informative about our choices when they did not have the beer we requested. Gave us several comparable choices. This place is a little gem in Lapeer, nice to find a local establishment that isn't like the chains. Everything is homemade, great variety of sauces, bbq beans are to die for! We had brisket & pork, the pork was a little tastier than brisket-brisket was a tad on dry side but still tasty. We enjoyed the decor & atmosphere, rustic & quaint. Bad, please avoid. I was referred to woodchips bbq by a co-worker after talking about another BBQ place in Clarkston. When we got there, the place was empty, maybe 2 other families were eating, this was around 7pm, prime dinner time...never a good sign. Their Tuesday special was $2 domestic bottles, I ordered a miller lite and was told that it's not considered domestic?!(they did take the dollar off my bill) I ordered the 3 meat combo, I figured it would be too much food, but I wanted to try a few different things and figured I'd have enough for lunch the next day. I ordered ribs, pulled pork, and chopped brisket w/fries and Mac and cheese. My wife ordered a bbq sandwich with fries, I think it was called the eagle. Our order came out almost immediately, literally less than 5 minutes, bad sign number two... Both of our meals were barely warm, so by time we could finish, the food was flat out cold. My wife's sandwich looked great, but was very bland the special sauce on it had no taste at all. My food was incredibly small portions, I ate the entire 3 meat combo and could have gone for round two. All the meat was very very dry, you could tell it was not prepared on that current day and looked and tasted as if they just built my plate from left over scraps. On top of it all nothing had a smokey flavor, from the dining room you could see the kitchen staff filling a big oven(I think oven couldn't really tell) with foiled meat for I'm guessing the next day. Is this how they "smoke" their meat? They have 6 different BBQ sauces on the tables, the "sweet" sauce was ok, but overall the choices were very mediocre. Our waitress was ok. The hostess was very unfriendly, looked mean and was clearly in a bad mood. By time we left the hostess had become the bartender and you could tell she was being very unpleasant to our waitress, almost felt bad for her. This was a horrible experience, I would never return or recommend. My wife and I are bbq fanatics and it hurts to say this, but I think a Mcrib would have been a better choice for bbq. :( read more
