For a Sunday lunch we were immediately seated & server went over menu, ingredients, preparation & more without a flinch. App of crab rangoon came up fast & was a different twist on the traditional crab cheese. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich which quickly followed. Pork was tender & delicious, covered in coleslaw & you get 5 BBQ sauces tableside for dipping, dressing or however you take it. We tried them all! Sandwhich was served with fries which were average but who has room after all of this deliciousness? Sandwhiches are served on a bun, wrap or...Glazed Donut! Just prepare yourself. Well, I found my new favorite Restaurant. :) It's so nice to see downtown coming back to life, and as all Lapeer East grads who run the place, the plan on breathing more life into our awesome town. You might see familiar faces, they are the same great people behind 'Wiches. Which they remembered me and my family from my Dad being the first guy to conquer the Wicked Witch. But enough about Oxford, we are talking Lapeer. You get your drinks from a Mason Jar. I thought that was nice touch. The ribs fell off the bone. The BBQ is more of a dry, which I good, because you would get it all over yourself! Lol. The meats where all nice and smokey flavored. GET THE BRUSSEL SPROUTS. They are so amazing. Crunchy, and drilled with balsamic vinegar. They had in house sauces, try the apple!! They also have some pretty epic Mac and Cheese. Which is a nice vegetarian option. My wife and I went there today 5/28/14 wich was the second official day of being open. We decided to sit inside and will try the outside seating next time. Oh yeah we are planning a return trip hopefully very soon. We have never gone out to eat a meal and have everything we order come out perfectly. This place has done that in spades. Our server was Jordan and she was very attentive and made sure to let us know all about the place etc.... Now onto the food! We ordered the bowl of chili wich comes with a side of cornbread... both were awesome! Chili was just the right amount of spice and the cornbread was supermoist!! For dinner we both chose the Rise N Shine burger. It had perfectly done hamburger patty with bacon that was done the way I like it topped with a fried egg that was cooked perfectly. Let me tell you having the egg yolk coat everything under the bun as well as my arm was great. I elected to have the home made mac n cheese instead of fries. I'm glad I did it was very yummy! We were able to order a large cornbread to go home with us. Everything we ate today was perfect! We heard of this place from Facebook and I am glad we did !! We asked to speak with the owner and we're surprised when a young gentleman by the name of Patrick came to our table. He wanted to know if there was anything they could improve on and we just said more cornbread. He took the time to talk to us and let us know how the business came to be. Haven't been to Woodchips for a little while due to the pandemic, but as usual we were not disappointed! My wife had a pulled pork sandwich and I had a trio of pork, chicken and sausage, all very flavorful! First and foremost, the service at Woodchips is personable, efficient, and attentive. The environment is inviting and appealing, and offers various seating options. If service and ambiance were the only variables, we would return for these reasons alone. But the food choices are numerous and everything we had was delicious. Our niece had the (huge) pulled chicken sandwich. My husband had the ribs, (enough for two meals), and I had the jambalaya. It was on the spicy side for me, but I was still able to enjoy it. After searching area cities for the best restaurant offerings, I discovered this one. My wife and I decided to do a bit of plate sharing tonight so we could experience a bit of many offerings. We had smoked wings, bbq chicken, ribs, and pulled pork along with sweet potato fries, green beans, and finally macaroni and cheese. Good thing that we shared a dinner because we wound up with leftovers to take home. The quality of the pulled pork and chicken was excellent. We both felt that the ribs were over cooked and dry. Sides were good and the cinamon honey for the fries was amazing. If not for the ribs, we would have graded this restaurant a grade higher. Our group of ladies have been at the Lapeer Senior Center on Tuesdays for years. Frequently we walk across the street to Woodchips for lunch. Last Tuesday we had the worst service. It took almost 2 hours to get our food. Much too long!! The waitress kept informing us it would just be a little longer & did refill our drinks. The food was very good once we got it but there are too many other restaurants in walking distance for us to go out to lunch. Sorry - you have lost some regular customers. read more

Food was fantastic!!! Brisket melted in my mouth. Fries are some of the best fries I have had. Mac and cheese was pretty good. Corn bread was good but a little dry. Drinks were good. Favorite sauce was Texas (Of Course), Sweet and Witches Brew were also very good. I liked Carolina Bold was also good but liked the other 3 better. Did not want to try the Michigan Apple. Pretty darn good BBQ. Let's talk food husband got ribs, baked beans and Mac n cheese. All three were notable no complaints. We got the kids quesadillas. Had a bite it was rather tastey. We shared the French fries with chili kids of course were not huge fans. I thought they were good. I ordered the breakfast burger and similar to other reviews I would have preferred a firm bun. However this burger was fantastic! And although I initially didn't care for the bun in the end it really worked. We have 4 kids so dining is always an adventure and if we have slow service it can be a total disaster. Service was attentive to our needs. The kids meals did come out late but the owner was right over and began hustling the kitchen. A minor setback to a good meal. Overall good food and good server. This place is delicious and the servers and bartender were all really nice. My bf got the pulled pork platter, and I'm not quite sure he even tasted it because it was gone in about 7 minutes. I had the brisket platter with fries and Mac and cheese. You can tell the potatoes are fresh, and the Mac was amazing! Both of us used all 5(?) bbq sauces on the table. We got the pretzel bites as an app, those were good, but a little pricey for what seemed like a handful of puffed donut bites with salt. Took a lot of mine home! When my bf told our dog that maybe I'd give him some brisket if he was good, I instantly locked eyes with our dog and shook my head no. I absolutely LOVE the Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!! If you love smoked chicken with a crispy skin, pulled pork or brisket, this place is for you. Brine flavor and smoke cook timing has clearly been mastered. Whichever protein you choose you can be sure it will have the juicy smoked flavor you're looking for. I always look forward to the garlic green beans as my side and the taste of cornbread. Really Love their menu. Ok, so there is only 1 reason I can't give 5 stars, and it's a good one that REALLY needs to be addressed by management. THE SAUCE!!! Any sauce!! They're left on the tables, like all day... We used to love trying them, but seemed we always went home and were left, let's just say, time spent on the "throne"... it didn't take long to understand why. We watch the waitress and manager clean the tables with a wet rag, THEN, wipe the tip and top of every sauce bottle, then the next table, and the next, all getting nasty table mess wiped directly to the sauce bottle tip. You think maybe some of that is getting inside? DUH!! It's bad enough the sauce sits on the table all day then.... YUCK! Needless to say we do go back and love the food, but we bring our own Trolingers Sauce from Paris Tennessee and sneak it out to avoid the side effects of spoiled and tainted table top bacterial incubators we're tempted with. Let me start off by saying the food has always and continues to be good. Atmosphere is great and staff was awesome as always!! BUT, yesterday myself and two of my kids went there for dinner. 3 sandwiches with soft drinks and one appetizer. $70+ dollars. I was very disappointed with the serving sizes for the money. Both of my kids mentioned it first when we received our appetizer and how small the portion was. After the sandwiches arrived my daughter commented about how little meat there was in the sandwich and how large the bun was in comparison as my son told her the bun was large so we get full on bread. We came for dinner. Everyone enjoyed their food. Our server, Jillian, made it a pleasant experience with her recommendations and accommodations. I ordered the Philly without the bread and asked if it could be put on lettuce. It wasn't an issue and the resulting dish was exactly what I was looking for. My husband had the jambalaya with mac & cheese (Jillian's recommendation) and green beans as sides. He really enjoyed that dish. Official food review: As always, I wait to review a restaurant after 3 visits. For Woodchips, everything I experienced met my expectations for a BBQ place in Lapeer. The food is decent but nothing unique which is on par for The area. It was nice to see a special like their spin on "Shepherds" pie with the pulled pork instead of traditional lamb. The wait staff is casually friendly albeit relaxed in service and responsiveness. Atmosphere is cozy and energized, but on weekends wait times are long, and for the food here I'm not sure well worth the effort. All in all: Food 2.8/4, Service 2.5/3, Setting 2.5/3. Always fresh hot food. Flavor consistent. We've had about everything on the menu and have never been disappointed, we frequent here as often as possible. The chipotle bacon aioli sauce has become a sauce I put on everything! They fresh make everything, all sauces all rubs, and the smoke their own meat - including bacon. The meats are so flavorful you can eat them plain with no sauce, which is how we enjoy the ribs and chicken wings. The BBQ egg rolls are a must as well! The burgers are excellent, everything is done right. The staff is always very upbeat and fun. We have absolutely no complaints in the few years we have gone here. The burnt ends appetizer was my dinner (10.99) and their sauces especially Witches Brew tangy spicy, and Texas smoky spicy, were very good.
