Price was fair ($41.77 after tax) and seems to have been done right, but unfortunately my really nice valve stem covers were stolen and replaced with cheap ones :( Also, my trunk was left messy after they retrieved the security bit for my locking wheels. I was also told I needed new brake pads, went to Hyundai the following week and was told I don't need new brake pads. read more

I would be very cautious about using this mechanic service for anything other than an oil change. I had a check engine light issue and their diagnostics indicated low compression on #3 cylinder, their recommendation was replace the engine. I ended up taking my Audi Q5 to a Import specialist and they indicated the issue was a bad fuel injector. They were able to take care of the repair in short order. They also told me that previous work done by Woodies wasn't done correctly and they had to do it over. They talk about their quality of service and their ASE certified mechanics and their belief in Customer Service and treating you like family. That was not my experience. read more

Failed my inspection and told me I needed $3,500 - $5,000 of repairs to pass. Took it to another place and passed with zero problems. Another time I took my car in for an oil change and somehow, both my headlights burned out at the same time....odd coincidence (nearly impossible in fact). They refused to take any accountability and told me they could replace them for $200. I went to AutoZone and replaced them for $40. This place is without doubt a scam, save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I used to love Woodie's. They were honest and didn't charge me for services I didn't need. They even once told me I didn't need a service that I specifically asked for. (It was on the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule, so I requested it.) But now they're just like every other repair shop, adding unnecessary services to the bill to make as much money as possible. Today I got an estimate that included a service I did not ask for. In fact, it was a service that I had done there just a few months ago and it won't be needed again for a long time. They just thought they'd slip it in and hoped I wouldn't notice. *This review is about the location on Prosperity Church Rd.* I normally frequent this location and have always had a great experience. I've also gone to the one in Uptown and have also had a great experience. I learned there was a location in the University (Prosperity Church) area which is where I live. I created an appointment online on 1/7 Friday. My appointment was confirmed for Monday 1/10 at 11. I got a text the Saturday and Sunday before, confirming my time slot. I arrived to my location 15 minutes early only to learn that not only were they short staffed, but if I left my car there would be no guarantee they could get to my car today. "What's the point of an appointment"? Did I mention one of the text messages came from a personal cell. My question is, why wasn't I notified of this change the same way I was notified about the date/time, instead of taking wasted time out of work? I left the store with a rescheduled appointment for Thursday, which I will not be keeping. Nor returning to this location. read more

If you're a business that conducts work using state law, you should guide your customers in the right direction. People from out of state do not require a state inspection when registering their car. I use to come here all the time and then got a new car where maintence was covered for 3 years by the dealer. It was kind of a specialty car so I continued maintenance through the dealer until one day she died. AAA only covered towing a few miles so i immediately thought of this place. Unfortunately it being a specialty car and it being a major engine issue they didnt feel comfortable with fishing around for the issue. The mechanic kindly spoke to the AAA tower so they would give me a second tow without charge. For all those people who think mechanics make stuff up to get paid they could have done hours of exploratory work and charged me an arm and a leg for it. But they didnt. Needless to say the dealership wanted $7000 to fix so I ended up getting a new car. And so now Im back using Woodies! I scheduled an apt online which is more of a request. They call you back and set the actual time. I had a synthetic oil change, state inspection and tire rotation completed in an hour for under $100! You cant beat that! read more

I have taken my car here for service and been very happy so when my car broke down I took it back as a repeat customer. They called and told me the repair was going to be $5200. I decided to come pick it up and take it for a 2nd opinion somewhere else. They never told me that there would be a charge of $130 for a diagnosis. I took it to Charlotte Star Service and he repaired it and also added a dipstick that was missing and did additional repairs to my car for a total including tax for $1706. I think a customer should be aware of the diagnostic fee. They simply hook up a computer you can buy at Advance Auto Parts.... and read codes. You can go to any lube and oil place and they will do the diagnostic for $20 or free. The 2nd mechanic doesn't charge for that and his repair was $3,494 less. My car drives better now than ever. I am a female. My car is an older Mercedes. I felt it was the typical stereotype...little lady knows nothing about cars. Charlotte Star Service had a photo with a review here on Yelp of a lady in the same shoes as me. She went to Charlotte Star Service with her Porsche. Repairs came in $3000-$$4000 less at Charlotte Star Service! That's why I took it there. My experience was identical to hers. Huge shout out to Dan at Charlotte Star Service! Beware: Do not go to Woodies Auto Service and Repair Center on Palmer St. near Uptown Charlotte if you want honest service work done on your vehicle. Living in Charlotte for a little over a year, I found out I needed to do a safety check on my car to renew my license plate. This location happened to be the closest to my house, so I went over there the Friday before Thanksgiving week. I had been in auto sales for quite a long time in my previous residence, so I am very familiar with the car business. When I first dropped off my vehicle in the morning, I was told the charge would be $13.60. That's what the cost is supposed to be for a safety check. I was called a few hours later and told my car was ready to be picked up. I told them I would stop by later in the afternoon. When I picked up the car, I was hit with a bill for $30.00 instead. I immediately questioned them and they told me, "They plug it into the system and what it tells them to do is what they have to do. If he puts in safety and it says emissions--they have to do it." That came from the manager, Chris. Another excuse he mentioned for the additional charge was that my car was a 2018 and North Carolina was already considering it 2021 even though it was November 2020, so my car would technically be over three years old and require the test for the additional cost. It didn't seem right to me, but I needed my car so I paid the bill and left. By the way, when they called me to let me know the car was ready, they never told me my bill would be higher like they should have done. On Monday, I called the North Carolina Motor Vehicle Department and spoke to someone that worked in emissions. The person I spoke to said it was still considered 2020, and I would subtract two years from that, which means my car would not require the extra charge. (I later spoke with two other people with emissions on Tuesday and every one of them confirmed that the state did not consider it 2021 at this time, so in other words, I was not told the truth.) Armed with the information, I went back to the shop on Monday and despite what the person from the state told me, Chris insisted they just plug it in and do whatever the system tells them to do and they have no control over it. He would not give me the difference I had to pay, and said something to the effect, "This was more of a hassle for him, (in other words dealing with me questioning the charge) than it was for me who felt I wasn't being treated honestly, had to call the state, spend time on the phone, write the information down, and then go back to the shop and still not receive satisfaction. He has to be there as it's his job, while I had other things I would much rather be doing. Still not satisfied, I called the license bureau in Huntersville Tuesday morning, as I was referred there by the NCDMV on Monday. Again, speaking to an employee there, she transferred me to somebody that works in the emissions department and knows what the requirements are. That person said, "They should have just done a safety inspection because I was under 70,000 miles and three years." She added, "They do have to give me the exemption because I fall under it." I called back on Tuesday and Chris answered. I explained what I was told and he kept insisting they have no control over what happens once they plug the vehicle in the system. He finally relented and said, "Come on over, and I'll give you $15 out of my pocket." It was condescending, and he acted as if he was doing me a favor. Meanwhile, I still paid more than the $13.60 and went through all of the aggravation that wasn't necessary. I called two other shops on Tuesday in Charlotte that do inspections. Both of them asked what year my vehicle was as well as the miles. Both shops told me the charge would be $13.60 because my vehicle was a 2018 and under the miles. One of them mentioned next year the charge would be $30.00 because it would be beyond three-years old. Nobody said they had to plug it into the computer and see what it said. Nobody said they wouldn't know until I got there what test they would have to run. There was no doubt on their part because they were being honest, and isn't that what you want from a repair or in my case, testing shop? You always hear that women get taken advantage of regarding vehicles, but Woodie's is equal opportunity when it comes to taking advantage of someone, whether they don't know much about cars, or the law and the way things work in a new state. Trust is everything! If you can't trust someone and don't believe what they're saying, how can you possibly do business with them? I would rather drive a longer distance for an honest shop, because it will cost you less in the long run. I wouldn't believe one word they tell me at Woodies after my experience and you shouldn't either. read more

I had an alternator and alternator belt replaced at Woodie's Prosperity Church Road (Mallard Crossing) location. The cost was well over $800. They touted their "3-year nation-wide warranty on parts and labor." A few weeks ago, while on a road trip, my car broke down in Pennsylvania. It was the Alternator and Alternator belt (and battery). The repair cost me over $900. I called Woodie's to inform them I would be claiming the warranty. They gave me the number to the warranty office and told ME to call them. When I did, I was told by the warranty company that this particular Woodie's location was not covered under the warranty as had been advertised. I informed Woodies of this and they said that was not correct and that they would handle it. A few weeks later, having received a text message that they were ready to "give me some money," I went to the Woodie's location and told them I was there to collect the refund. The manager had no idea what I was talking about. He said he would investigate and call me. I then received a call that they were ready to reimburse me. We arranged an appointment for 2:00 on a particular day. When I arrived, the manager was not in and the other workers didn't know anything about it until a worker spoke up and said: "Yeah---there was an issue with this warranty." The shop called the manager and I waited 20 minutes for him to arrive. When he did, he told me Woodie's would reimburse me $500 of the promised warranty on parts and labor. He said they would pay me to cover the cost of the Pennsylvania garage who repaired their shoddy work--but not the price I paid Woodie's for the parts and labor. The $500 didn't even cover the over $800 amount I paid Woodie's. I asked the manager why I shouldn't receive the full amount I paid them to do the work if parts and labor were under a "3-year warranty." They refused to pay more than $500. I informed them I will take them to small claims court. And I will, if even just to force them to honor their word. Terrible business practices! I can only warn people to not use this dishonest company! read more

Honestly I never take the time to rate anything on Yelp, but Woodies is the kind of place that deserves the praise. I recommend Woodies to everyone I know. I absolutely love this shop and have had only amazing experiences. Before moving to Charlotte I had never had a positive experience with any mechanic. I always felt talked down to, not taken care of and honestly half the time lied to. The staff at Woodies goes out of their way to make the experience welcoming and the service that they provide is fantastic. Not only is it the most enjoyable experience you can have when having to have a car in the shop (their lovely waiting room, shuttle service, communication, flexibility, I could go on for days), you know that you do not have to worry when you leave with your car that you received anything less than their full effort and expertise. No one likes going to the mechanic when their car is acting up. It's like going to the doctor when you have a mystery pain. You always expect horrible news and expensive bills. Woodie's made an unpleasant process extremely smooth and, dare I say, painless. My car decided to stop working one beautiful Sunday morning. A friend swung by to jump it and it still refused to budge. Fearing the worse (a bad alternator) I looked up mechanics in the area. This chain had good reviews and there was one around the corner, so I decided to give them a try. They were nice over the phone and just as nice in person. Even though I didn't have an appointment (and it was near closing time) they were able to fit me in. The waiting room in this place was surprisingly nice. Clean, comfortable, and it had free soda, coffee, and water. They found the problem (bad battery cable) and fixed it for a reasonable price. I didn't feel gouged by labor or parts costs. I hope I don't have to return to them anytime soon (just like the doctor's office), but if I do I feel very comfortable having them take care of the repairs. read more

I have been to Woodie's in South End on four different occasions for service for my beloved but not-always-reliable Pontiac Vibe. Every single time, I have received outstanding customer service. Daniel has on multiple occasions gone out of his way to find cheaper parts for my car to save me some money, and he and Russ have also helped me prioritize what service my cars needs so that I can "pace myself" with regards to budgeting for the car. My coolant light came on yesterday so I drove into Woodie's to see if someone could take a look. Was politely greeted when I walked in. A gentleman took a quick look and walked to the back to grab some coolant. (While he was away, one of the mechanics saw me standing there and asked if I was being helped, I told him I was). The gentleman came back, added the coolant, and suggested I get it checked by whomever services my car to ensure there wasn't a leak. No strings, just genuine kindness. When I showed up I pulled through their service center and they topped off my coolant and even added to my washer fluid. I was in and out in 5 minutes with no charge. This place takes advantage of people they think don't know anything about cars... 5 months ago I got two new tires and they way overcharged me for the labor put into them and convinced me I needed to add more and more to the bill. Just recently I got a flat tire in the middle of nowhere due to uneven wear and tear on my tires. Also overdue for a service and called to get in, set an appointment a week ahead of time and walked in to them telling me they couldn't get to me that day but I could bring my car the next morning when they open and they can't promise anything but can probably get to me early. Asked for a diagnostic to determine repair cost to see if I should total the car...$1,800 of repairs later they tell me a new warning popped up on the diagnostic that didn't show up on first diagnostic...$4k transmission repair so car is totaled and I'm out $1,800 for their incompetence...they dropped it to $1,100...and handed me back a car that won't shift out of 2nd gear...all this after I told them the car was having trouble shifting out of low gear when I dropped it off....the guy at the check out didn't even apologize ... read more

To be transparent, I am a 20-something female that knows NOTHING about cars. You could easily tell me my car needs $2000 in repairs and I would believe it. That being said, I was apprehensive about trying out a new auto shop and being upsold where I really did not have to be. I had a flat and needed an oil change and rolled my Corolla into the shop. The guys at Woodies were so kind and friendly-- they asked if I needed a ride home, and even changed my license plates for me! These guys remind me of my dad and I love going in to see them. They will not upsell you- a flat and an oil change came out to about $90. They have a customer for life!! :) read more

They have always been friendly and responded to my request without any additionally heckling about unnecessary things I do not need. Yes you did check the brakes and the noise had nothing to do with the brakes. I didn't change the front brakes until after Summerfield fixed the rattling noise. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice . . . Let me start by saying I applaud Woodie's for doing a Freon fill before suggesting more expensive repairs on the AC system on my car. Still $618 in diagnosis and repairs later and my car still isn't fixed. One member of the staff was rude, condescending and arrogant. In the past we had taken a car for repair, and while it was repaired properly, my wife felt like they were rude and condescending. Regardless it's our neighborhood garage so we figured we would give it another go. We brought the car in for three issues, AC not cooling, check engine light, and a tire problem. The only thing we were not prepared to do was buy a new set of tires. After the diagnosis, they called me back with estimates to do a dyed Freon fill (to diagnose a leak in the system), four new tires and to fix the problem causing the check engine light. It would appear though that the person I spoke with to approve the repairs took my rejection of the tires as "don't repair the check engine light either" and thin sing-songily informed my wife when she came to pick up the car that I knew better than he when it came to fixing cars. There was a note on the invoice that the "repair" may not keep the light off which of course it didn't because it wasn't in fact repaired. read more

I have to say this place IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. there was an issue with and ENGINE PROBLEM AND THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO HELP BUT NOW HAVE DECIDED TO TURN IT AROUND AND MAKE IT RIGHT, however they stated the job would take a week. Stephon Moore dealt with manager Ken Snyder who has already taken $1000 and they have had the car since 1/22/18. its not professional to argue with customers then agree to stop service since they feel rushed when they have taken the money from you already. the car was in perfect condition just overheating out the blue engine blew out and they tried to place blame on customer now they dont want to make it right. this place needs to be reported to the better business bureau. out of a vehicle that was paid for out of pocket now destroyed and they are not willing to make it right.!!!!! at this rate no recommendation for service would ever be issued. We are African americans, he felt it was ok to take the money but now doesnt want to finish the job just because he was questioned in regards to the time frame that he has already passed!!!!!!!!! 1 read more

We had an incredibly favorable experience with this location of Woodie's just a few days ago. We recently moved into an Uptown apartment which uses an electronic magnetic sticker to access the parking garage. Without thinking, I placed the strip on the dash of my Honda Pilot and of course, the next time I went to use it, the strip and hang tag had fallen into the abyss between the windshield and the firewall. We tried everything we could think of to fish it out, with no luck. We stopped in at the Midtown location and not only were they friendly and accommodating, but Glen, one of their techs, had retrieved the tag in about 3 minutes, saving me a $250 replacement fee. I have been coming to this Woodie's location for years, and after my latest visit, I will always be coming back. I recently got into a small accident and had taken my van to a local "Well known" body shop. While at that body shop, which is also located at a local car dealership, they told me that my Air conditioning compressor was about to go out. They recommended that I not use the AC until I had the compressor replaced, for well over $1200 in a repair estimate. I wasn't sure about what they told me, so I took it down to see they guys at Woodie's. I told them all about what the dealership said. I fully expected to also be told the same information and was set to deal with the ramifications of spending having to spend $1200 or more for the repair. This was totally not in my budget and was causing me a lot of stress. A few hours later I got the update from Bobby telling me that my vehicle was ready. He said that all it was that two belts needed to be replaced. The belts were replaced for a total bill of $167.00. Clearly this news was the best possible scenario. The guys at Woodie's are trustworthy, and always do a great job. I've never had a comeback for any repair done there, and my vehicle is always ready the same day. WELL DONE guys!!
