The food was nothing less of outstanding. Fries were crispy and salted perfectly, baked beans filled with flavor and potato loaded to the max. This was better than Hog Wild I had in Wichita. I had the two meat sandwich and Mac and cheese and it was damn good. The brisket was just average but the hot pink was really good. And one of the few BBQ places that offers MacnCheese that's truly good. They all say they are but Hog Wild is in the top 10 percent when it comes to MacnCheese. Price was average to a bit high, but was served in no time. The dining room was pleasant and clean. We asked our hotel staff to recommend a good BBQ joint during our trip to Hutchinson and without hesitation she said, "of course you must try Hog Wild Pit BBQ!" And we did, and loved it. The Family Pack contained 2 meats and 2 sides enough for 4 people. We selected brisket and chicken along with curly fries and Cole slaw. Plenty of sauce. Soft rolls were included. Great taste, no complaints and generous servings. Ordering over the interweb was quick and easy. Our order was ready for pick-up when we walked in the door. We found this little gem thanks to Yelp! It is our habit to now in our pre trip planning to scour Yelp and make a list of places to visit. Tiffany is a fiend when it comes to BBQ, and she put Hog Wild on our list of must visits. The restaurant was clean and we were greeted when we walked in with a smile and a "how ya'll doing". After placing our order and getting our drinks we found an open booth and had just begun a conversation when our number was called. The BBQ was great; I had chopped brisket, pulled pork and hot links with fries. Tiff had the chopped brisket and pulled pork. The meat was flavorful and juicy, and was served hot; my fries had just come out of the fryer. It was a great experience and just what we had hoped it would be. We'll be back! read more

So I'm not normally a BBQ fan ( I know...I know) because I can't stand meat fat and BBQ often has a moderate to large amount of fat. My dad & I were in Hutchinson visiting relatives and he suggested this place. Not wanting to disappoint him, I reluctantly agreed and vowed to make the best of it. Boy, was I ever wrong about BBQ! I truly enjoyed my meal here and was very impressed. I had pulled pork, bbq beans, mashed potatoes and it came with Texas toast. Not one ounce of fat. Not. A. Single. Bit. Fabulous! The pork wasn't overly smoky, just perfect. Not dry and not dripping. I used the hot bbq sauce on the table. Again...fabulous. I'm also inexperienced with sweet tea but thought watermelon tea sounded good. Tried a little and it was awesome! I'm almost a convert to sweet tea now. If I could only have one of these in southern CA, I'd be a happy camper. Now I'll have to wait until next year to go here again and have the same thing. As a side note...I tried my dad's pulled chicken and it was pretty freakin awesome too. Place was clean and the price is right. You get a lot of food too. I really like Hog Wild. The smoke flavor on the meat is just right to where I can still taste the meat, which is extremely important in good BBQ. The pulled pork, brisket, and even pulled chicken are moist where they should be and crisp where they should be. LOVE the carolina pulled pork sandwich with a large amount of filling on a big ole bun! Portions are generous on all their items. Can call ahead and pick up your order at the walk-up window. Can go inside. Can also drive through. Talk about convenient for those who like to eat it, but don't appreciate the "eau de smokehouse" on their clothing for the next 6 hours. :) Staff has always been polite, helpful with questions, and quick with the orders. For openers, if you believe as I do that the perfect barbecue is usually found in a place with bars on the windows in the worst part of town and just enough grease on the tables to write your initials - this isn't it. Hog Wilds is on Main Street in Hutchinson in a neat, crisp, clean store across the street from one of the Salt City's famed landmark restaurants, Skaets (steaks, backwards). But when you get to the bottom line, this is only fair to middlin' 'cue at best. Great prices (2 meat dinner with 2 sides, $8.59, dollar less for one meat), not so good barbecue. Good barbecue (altogether now class) is cooked slow over low heat from wood embers, usually hickory and oak. The ribs here are cooked in less than three hours and then, brace yourself, steamed to make them "fall off the bone tender." Any time the meat :"falls off the bone" it's either been par boiled, or baked before being smoked, or grilled and then steamed. Guess where the flavor goes when you steam ribs? The brisket was sliced thin and was dry, the pulled pork only slightly better. The answer here is that Hog Wild is part of a small but growing chain with most of its stores in Wichita. Everything is recipe formula driven and geared not to offend. Hence all the fat is trimmed off the brisket and pork shoulder (guess what catches the smoke flavor and keeps the meat moist) A couple sauces (hot and mild), curly fries (fair), a distinctive slaw, and the untrieds: baked beans, mashed potatoes (in a barbecue joint?), and straight-out-of-the-can corn. How many chains do you know that really make good barbecue? Three desserts were smooshed into sealed plastic containers at the register, hardly an outstanding presentation and not not particularly appetizing. All in all, the Brown Shoe Gourmet (read other barbecue reviews from across the country) recommends that unless you just have to have a barbecue fix and you're nearly out of gas, you look elsewhere. read more

This was the best Bar-B-Q I have had in a very long time. (since I lived in Tennessee) The African American woman taking our order was amazing.
