Chopped brisket, spare ribs, spicy beans and toast

Okay. I have a positive update for The Hickory Stick. I've recently had their catering a few times and I thought it was pretty good! Plenty of tasty options with some great smoke flavor. I'll have to check out the restaurant again. My hope is that will mean that I can give this place another star!

Brisket and ribs were tough. Service was less than helpful when asking for silverware. Mainly disappointed in myself for talking my mom out of HogWild today.

Excellent barbecue. The half slab dinner was huge; I could only eat half. Good cole slaw, but my favorite side was the spicy beans, which were, indeed, spicy and meaty. The giant baked potato is also aptly named. Friendly service.

We were visiting from out of town so we picked the restaurant based on yelp reviews. So we were surprised this place had such a high rating based on what we experienced. The actual building had some small town charm. Decor was modest and and typical of most bbq joints. Tables seemed clean but the entire floor was greasy and slippery. You order at the counter and of course the card reader asks for a tip which i gladly tipped 20%. Not sure what that tip is for though because everything is completely self serve. You fill up your own drinks, get your own silverware, sauces, etc. You also empty your own trash after done and pick up the food from the counter. If i had known any of this i would not have left $12, maybe just a couple bucks. The food was hit and miss. We ordered a variety to sample most of the menu with the idea being to have leftovers to take home. We had lots of leftovers but we didnt take any home unfortunately. It just wasnt that good. On the positive side the poutine was really tasty even though it had shredded cheese instead of the traditional cheese curds. We topped it with pulled pork and it seemed pretty juicy and had nice flavor. The fries were crispy and seasoned well. The beans were very canned tasting. And the ribs were decent. I like that the ribs were unsauced. The mac and cheese was an utter disappointment. Seriously flavorless and honestly kraft mac is better. A good mac can almost make a restaurant a destination in my opinion. The brisket was shredded which was weird. Have never had brisket that wasnt sliced. But it was rather dry and shredded in a pile. I was thinking maybe they scraped the cutting board leftovers into a pile on my order. The smoked chicken was dry as a bone and looked like cardboard slices. The side salad was simple but fresh. The lettuce wasnt wilted and the tomatoes were nice and ripe. The service was mid. They were friendly enough but there was 4 of them at the end of the bar mostly talking goofing with each other. No one really checked on us or anything. But i guess that goes with the self service vibe of the place i suppose. We were there just shy of 5:00 so it wasnt like an off time or something but there wasnt many people there. And i would think at that time the food would have been fresh and juicy. Prices were pretty good for the amount of food we got. But the quality didnt make it a good value. Anyways if the people of hutch rate this place nearly 5 stars, they must not have been out of town much and tried great bbq. Id eat this place now and then on my lunch break but it wouldnt be the type of place I'd recommend to friends from out of town.

    Bbq was amazing here!

Was coming through town and found on Yelp! Easy parking was helpful with our cargo van. Service was fast and friendly and very easy just go to counter and order and pick a seat. Clean bathrooms and amazing food!

I wish I can give them a 5 but my 3 meats (chicken, ham, and ribs) came out really dry. Good thing I'm too hungry to even complain. I haven't had any meal and it's past 3 pm when we got here. My youngest kiddo also shared with my meal and took the 2 servings of mac n cheese sides and the slices of toast that came with my meal. My older kiddo ordered the pulled pork sandwich and hubby got the loaded baked potatoes. They ate theirs up but told me there's nothing extraordinary about it.

Don't show up at 7:45pm. They made us take our order Togo. Make sure to get there early or you get attitude for showing up while they are open. We had to eat outside. We didn't get to enjoy the bbq sauce unfortunately it was on the tables inside, but we were locked out. Homemade cheese sauce is easy to make and tastes better than the canned stuff. It ruined the taste of the brisket. Food was a 3 star, service -1 and ambiance I have no idea, but eating on the street was fine.

I stopped by RibCrib BBQ & Grill while in town and was looking forward to trying a local barbecue…read morespot. The ambience was actually one of the stronger points of the visit. The walls are filled with decorations and memorabilia, and there are plenty of TVs around the dining room, which makes it a comfortable place for someone dining solo. I ordered the three-meat plate and paid the extra $2.99 upgrade for the brisket. Unfortunately, the brisket was the biggest disappointment of the meal. It came with three slices that were roughly four inches long and quite thin, and the meat itself was very dry. They didn't appear to be much effort to keep it moist. It lacked the smoke flavor you'd hope for from barbecue. Almost felt like it was cafeteria produced and an assembly line for multiple meals, but yet I was maybe an hour before closing and there were three other solo diners plus a large party. I also tried the hot links, which unfortunately tasted fairly plain and again didn't have much of that smoky barbecue character. The St. Louis ribs, however, were actually very good. They were tender and flavorful, but the portion felt a bit light....only two ribs were included, and given how small the brisket portion was, a third rib would have helped balance the plate. The real standout of the meal ended up being the baked beans. They included brisket burnt ends mixed into the beans, and they were excellent. Honestly, I could have happily eaten a double portion of those. The Texas toast felt pretty standard likely the frozen variety warmed on a flat top. I sampled a few of the house BQQ sauces as well. The Memphis-style wasn't really my preference, and the spicy sauce had a bit of heat but it was inconsistent. You'd notice it in one bite and then not at all in the next. Service was okay overall, though it seemed like my server may have gone on break during the meal without handing off the table. I had to flag someone down halfway through to get a drink refill, especially since water isn't offered automatically. The mashed potato's used a breakfast pepper gravy which was odd tasting and you could tell it was a packet powder. Overall, the atmosphere was enjoyable and the baked beans were genuinely great, but the barbecue itself felt inconsistent and especially the brisket. As someone who enjoys cooking barbecue at home, I know how good it can be when it's done right. If anything, I might come back just for another serving of those beans... and maybe to see if they'll share that recipe. Haha

Good food. Helpful staff. Enjoy the experience. Friendly staff. Enjoyed the salad and a beer.read more

She chose Roy's Hickory Smoked BBQ, and wow, are we glad she did! Pulling up, I was a little skeptical at first, but there were a few cars outside so we decided to give it a try. I hadn't paid attention to the hours on Yelp, and when I saw the sign on the door that said "11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. or until sold out," I told my wife, "Hopefully they still have some food left!" As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by that wonderful smoky barbecue aroma. We looked over the menu board and my wife chose the two-meat platter with ribs and brisket. It came with two sides from the cold case, beans, corn, pickles, and a drink. I ordered the brisket and ham sandwich, which also included two sides, beans, corn, homemade pickles, and a drink. The prices were very reasonable. After selecting our sides, we grabbed a small plate of beans, corn, and homemade pickles and found a seat in the second dining room. The restaurant has a large community table in the front room along with additional seating in the other rooms. Before our main dishes even arrived, we were impressed. The beans and corn had excellent flavor, and I was tempted to go back for more. When our meals arrived, they looked absolutely amazing. My wife's ribs were huge, tender, and practically falling off the bone. Her brisket looked moist and perfectly smoked. My brisket and ham sandwich was piled high and looked just as good. I was disappointed they had sold out of the bologna, but after trying the ham, I quickly got over it. The ham was delicious on its own, and adding their barbecue sauce made My wife and I were traveling home from Colorado through Kansas and starting to get hungry.
