This food was really good! We did the family pack (add $4 for brisket which seemed weird) and got some ribs becuase I have to try all the ribs. It was a lot of food and it was all good. I was obsessed with the smoked beans (not spicy). Toasted buns were a nice touch. Bbq sauce is sweet and tangy. read more

Had hot links and smoke bologna with their spicy beans ( chunks of hot links, jalapeños. The beans tasted like there was a hint of brown sugar and it was great. Potato salad was very good as well. Staff were excellent in recommending and explaining the difference on the items I asked about and the food was out very quick. The building is what I enjoyed and that is a restored downtown building the creeky old wooden floors as I enjoy the sounds as you walk across them. I enjoy folks are saving these older buildings versus going into a new fab building. read more

I came in and order a large amount of food . Going to take a 30th celebration dinner to my family. The food was terrible, well the sides were fine but wow talk about dried out meat . I ordered a family meal with 2 lbs of meat chicken and pork with sides, half slab of ribs and 1lb of links. The chicken was so dry you couldn't even fold it. The ribs were chewy and the pork tasted like grease. Very disappointed. Spent 100 for the worst meal ever . I called and spoke with the manager who said no one complained. Can't believe that. I was polite. Asked how it could be handled. Was told come in for a free meal. Having had such a terrible meal I declined...don't want to ever try it again. First and last time to Hutchinson worst place. Just say no to Hickory Stik unless you like to eat trash food. read more

Okay. I have a positive update for The Hickory Stick. I've recently had their catering a few times and I thought it was pretty good! Plenty of tasty options with some great smoke flavor. We were visiting from out of town so we picked the restaurant based on yelp reviews. So we were surprised this place had such a high rating based on what we experienced. The actual building had some small town charm. Decor was modest and and typical of most bbq joints. Tables seemed clean but the entire floor was greasy and slippery. You order at the counter and of course the card reader asks for a tip which i gladly tipped 20%. Not sure what that tip is for though because everything is completely self serve. You fill up your own drinks, get your own silverware, sauces, etc. You also empty your own trash after done and pick up the food from the counter. If i had known any of this i would not have left $12, maybe just a couple bucks. The food was hit and miss. We ordered a variety to sample most of the menu with the idea being to have leftovers to take home. We had lots of leftovers but we didnt take any home unfortunately. It just wasnt that good. On the positive side the poutine was really tasty even though it had shredded cheese instead of the traditional cheese curds. We topped it with pulled pork and it seemed pretty juicy and had nice flavor. The fries were crispy and seasoned well. The beans were very canned tasting. And the ribs were decent. I like that the ribs were unsauced. The mac and cheese was an utter disappointment. Seriously flavorless and honestly kraft mac is better. A good mac can almost make a restaurant a destination in my opinion. The brisket was shredded which was weird. Have never had brisket that wasnt sliced. But it was rather dry and shredded in a pile. I was thinking maybe they scraped the cutting board leftovers into a pile on my order. The smoked chicken was dry as a bone and looked like cardboard slices. The side salad was simple but fresh. The lettuce wasnt wilted and the tomatoes were nice and ripe. The service was mid. They were friendly enough but there was 4 of them at the end of the bar mostly talking goofing with each other. No one really checked on us or anything. But i guess that goes with the self service vibe of the place i suppose. We were there just shy of 5:00 so it wasnt like an off time or something but there wasnt many people there. And i would think at that time the food would have been fresh and juicy. Prices were pretty good for the amount of food we got. But the quality didnt make it a good value. Anyways if the people of hutch rate this place nearly 5 stars, they must not have been out of town much and tried great bbq. Id eat this place now and then on my lunch break but it wouldnt be the type of place I'd recommend to friends from out of town. read more

I wish I can give them a 5 but my 3 meats (chicken, ham, and ribs) came out really dry. Good thing I'm too hungry to even complain. I haven't had any meal and it's past 3 pm when we got here. My youngest kiddo also shared with my meal and took the 2 servings of mac n cheese sides and the slices of toast that came with my meal. My older kiddo ordered the pulled pork sandwich and hubby got the loaded baked potatoes. They ate theirs up but told me there's nothing extraordinary about it. read more

Ok let me start by saying the food was really good, and you get a lot of it. I'm so confused by the rest of the business model though. You order at the counter from a paper leaflet. They have a neat bar but it's just storage. The open kitchen stinks, literally. We had to change our clothes and shower to get the smell off. Then the food comes out on styrofoam plates with plastic "to go" cutlery. The bathroom needs work but was clean. The food is really carrying this place, but they have potential to be so much better. read more

Good barbecue, great value. Their one meat dinner comes with two sides, we chose ribs with macaroni and cheese and smoked baked beans. We also added on a half of a baked potato (perfect portion, love to see it), and the potato also comes with a choice of meat (amazing). We chose pulled pork. The result was great. Solid barbecue- we live in Kansas City so we're utterly spoiled for options, and we're certified barbecue judges so we have definitely visited a fair number of them. We both agreed that if this was in town it would be in our rotation of favorites. The ribs we had were well cooked and tasty, with a great tenderness to them. The mac and cheese was very good, the pasta hit the ideal sweet spot for texture (which is easy to miss!) though the cheese flavor could use just a nudge (more of it or a tweak of the blend to make it fuller or more robust). The beans were fantastic and hearty, great work there, and the potato was very much loaded - the lightness of the pulled pork was cool and worked well with everything else. Total cost: $11.93 and we had leftovers. Well done! That's barbecue for the people. One question I have is about barbecue sauce- is it all house-made or are they sourcing? It's a little unclear, and if possible they should definitely be making their. Because they've clearly got skills and great barbecue deserves great sauce. read more

Don't show up at 7:45pm. They made us take our order Togo. Make sure to get there early or you get attitude for showing up while they are open. We had to eat outside. We didn't get to enjoy the bbq sauce unfortunately it was on the tables inside, but we were locked out. Homemade cheese sauce is easy to make and tastes better than the canned stuff. It ruined the taste of the brisket. Food was a 3 star, service -1 and ambiance I have no idea, but eating on the street was fine. read more

Nice little downtown BBQ spot. Causal restaurant setting where we ordered at a counter and they pretty quickly brought out our dinner. I ordered the pulled pork dinner with two sides. The pork was smokey, moist and had great flavor. Baked beans were spot on with a good amount of heat. The mac and cheese was ordinary, nothing special. The meat is really dry, the chicken and brisket are way over done , the Mac and cheese tastes like cafeteria Mac and cheese from your elementary school, it's pretty bland and mushy. Hubby liked the spicy beans. The bbq sauce was good. My kids liked it, the meat tasted great because of the sauce. I wouldn't recommend eating here. read more

The real deal. Good BBQ in downtown Hutchinson. Easy to find, easy parking and a block from the historic Fox Theater plus their BBQ is good. I had ribs, brisket and smoked sliced turkey with some good tater salad and some beans they threw everything in. I will be back. read more

Lot of choices, more than the average BBQ. Meat lightly smoked with hickory sporting a good smoke ring. Had the 3 meat plate brisket, pulled pork and ribs, slaw and cinnapples for 10.99. All good.
