I attempted to find several graves with the help of a new employee today, and we were half successful. To be fair, I knew one would be difficult as it may be unmarked. She was very friendly and helpful, however, and I'm confident upon my return that we'll find it. It's a beautiful place and was busy on a Saturday in November. The area surrounding it isn't very nice - it's industrial and near the train, but there is little traffic and it's centrally located and in the city. Lots of mature trees inside and the pond in the middle is lovely. They're adding a new building and the memorial garden is pretty. read more

I can't really say "Meh. I've experienced better." because this is my first time handling business with a cemetary for a loved one. While the person that assisted us was a very nice person, I'm sure -- business handling was very unorganized and frazzled. Their sales office is across the driveway from their conference area, so if the salesperson didn't have a piece of paperwork, he'd have to run outside to the next bldg to gather what he needed. During each of our visits, he had to make this run to the next bldg several times. Their business handling is also very antiquated. Everything is handwritten, then handed to a secretary to type up. Of course, there are typos and mistakes that we'd have to proofread and point out for correction. There was a lot of shuffling of papers and misplacing (for a short moment) things. Also a lot of calculating and re-calculating and coming up with different numbers. There is a piece of paperwork that requires a notary signature/stamp. We had to leave the meeting and find a notary to handle it, then bring the paperwork back. Why isn't there a Notary Public there? That run-around was a waste of time. We were taken to the gravesite we were quoted, but then the next day, we were told that area was for Jewish people and were shown another site. Err...?? Don't get me wrong -- the people were nice and had very good intentions. The handling of business was just a bit squirrly. Woodmere is a very popular and historical cemetary and I haven't heard of any poor handling of gravesites or graves or anything. I did not realize that burying someone was SO expensive, but as we were reminded by our salesperson, as with anything else, the cost of burying increases with the times. read more

I just buried my son there .We were suppose to have a grave side service but the possession arrived and the backhoe was still digging my son final resting place and the vault was laying in the street. As for graveside services we were setup on another familygrave we didn't even know I felt like this was so disrespectful and was hoping the family member wouldn't come along and see this .I have another plot next to my son in Beth El that will be for me .My other sons says He doesn't want to be buried in this ghettos cemetery. They keep the front looking nice but go towards the back and you see headstones overturned I cant even find my family because the grass and weed have grown over the headstone. If it weren't for the fact the majority of my family is there Id go to another gravesite like Michigan Memorial in Flatrock Mi the site are cared for from the front to the backSo please look at the site and the appearance of the cemetery before you purchase any plot read more

Keep in mind that most cemeteries are not responsible for headstones. Granted careless groundkeepers nick a lot of edges. That being said, I have found the staff (at least the genealogy staff) to be helpful. I've always been helped to locate a grave when I just show up or if I write ahead of time. Most cemeteries are hurting for money and that's not an excuse, it's all very time consuming and expensive. I keep in mine that I am not the only one asking for STUFF to be done. Definitely room for improvement, the grounds have fell into despair. Roads are pothole ridden, some areas seem to be kept better than others. Some areas are cleaned frequently while others have decorations from last year. My Mother, Grandparents and numerous friends are buried here. So, needless to say I am a frequent visitor. The cemetery used to be very well kept, the grounds definitely need attention. The pond area used to be a beautiful site to stop and view wildlife, now it is a garbage/muck filled mess very sad. Around the outside is littered with garbage and old leaf debris,certain parts of sidewalk surrounding the cemetery perimeters are unable to be used if you are walking. Only the outer street facing graves seem to be cleaned during cleaning times, which there is no set schedule so it is pretty much when I'm guessing the staff or management feels its needed. I take care(place and remove) of my Mother's grave so this can be aggravating to place flowers every holiday and season change and out the blue they are gone, yet interior graves haven't been touched in years. Over grown/sunken graves are everywhere, doesn't seem to be much maintenance as far as keeping them visual. The staff I have interacted with have always been polite and seemingly helpful to a point. I just wish more attention to grounds and visual appearance would be addressed. I really hope management company steps up and attempts to restore this cemetary. It has the potential to be the serene,beautiful forever resting place for many more years to come with just a little attention. I really hate to hear others state how they refuse to utilize this cemetary due to lack of upkeep anymore. And how if they are going to pay top dollar they rather be in the suburbs. read more

I cant believe that they can get away with running this cemetary like that. Their system is old, they need to update to COMPUTERS!. Something about them doesn't sit right with me. They have let the cemetary go waaaay down. This cemetary used to be beautiful, and its a shame because they have a lot of important historical Detroiters buried there. The beautiful old burial crypts have been boarded up, because there is theft that goes on in the cemetary, the fence is awful in certain parts. The grass is dead in certain parts and weed filled. The roads are broken up in parts. Makes me sad. They need to learn a bit more about empathy and tact when it comes to selling their tombstones and dealing with family members of the deceased. Horrible service with no work ethics, staff at the front desk highly unorganized. Not willing to work with you. After confirming with the cemetery workers, I informed everybody that funeral will be at 3 o'clock they canceled on me and I had to call and arrange for different cemetery so that we can bury the loved one. read more

This place is like a USED car lot. They are SCUM! One person tells you one thing and another person tells something TOTALLY different. NEVER do you get the same answer. I spent OVER $14,000 dollar at this DUMP and they STILL try to nickel and dime you. I'm trying to put a headstone in for a family member and they tried to RAPE me on the price. I was quoted a certain price, THEN went to sign the paper work and they jacked it up $3,500 MORE than what was quoted. Now, i'm getting the headstone thru a different group and they are giving me a hard time on the size on the memorial and to pour the foundation. BUYER BEWARE!!!! They will hold your loved one hostage if you are not careful. read more

I would suggest you go to find-a-grave.com for a more professional service or check with the office to get real facts and locations. Also, do not go alone to cemetery as it's unsafe. read more

I cannot rate this cemetary at the present time because I am so pissed about the way they conducted my mothers burial. My mom passed away 8/01/2018 and prior to her passing I paid in full for the plot & vault but not the opening and closing of the grave which they charged an additional 1,720 just to dig the hole and fill the hole afterwards. So I went to the office to get things organized and they walked me over to their conference room and said before we get started this is your balance and it was 656.00 and I said I have all my receipts and it was paid in full on 7-05-2018 so maybe you need to check your records and they kept running back and forth between buildings for over 3 hours trying to show me on a calculator where they made a mistake and quoted me the wrong price when I paid it off early. Little did they know I had my sister there who has over 40 years experience in loans and contracts, so she made them look stupid when she told them that they may actually owe me money for paying it off early because the interest that they are calculating wasn't correct. The person said well look I'm working hard for you and not trying to cause you any more grief but this has to be worked out before we can proceed. So, I said I'm not paying you one more dime and If I have to call my lawyer that I have retained you best believe I will be doing that in just a second. So she went back to the office and came back within 5 minutes and told me we are just letting this issue be resolved so it is paid in full. So, basically I had to threaten them in order for them to get on my page. I'm wondering how many other families they are taking advantage of because they tried to scam me but it didn't happen, I was one step ahead of them. Now they are telling me that I have to buy a headstone from them because if I buy somewhere else they won't be responsible if their grounds crew removes it since it won't be purchased from them, and of course theirs cost 2,300 and the one I can get online is only 500 bucks with a picture. So I'm going there tomorrow to see what I can do about this. They also mentioned that soon they will be charging a fee to make sure all the graves are taken care of it will be sort of like a trust fund thing and that don't sit right with me with these employees that are running this place. Something doesn't feel right and if my gut tells me this I surely hope I'm wrong. They will get bad publicity and not just a 1-5 star rating!!!! read more

I agree with the other postings, My entire family is buried here and I have two plots here for when I pass as well as my spouse. It is supposed to be a perpetual cemetery, meaning if they chip, damage etc. the headstone they are to replace it as well as take care of the grounds/plots in which case they have to replace/repair it. We waited months and months for the footing we paid for the day my loved one passed to be poured so we could have the headstone installed on the grave. Several calls and finally was ready to have my attorney involved before it was poured. It's sad that when you are grieving like that, you need to argue and stress over something that you already paid for to be done. This is one of the worst times in some ones life and they seriously prey upon it. every year they raise their prices exorbitantly for even the tags for wreaths and grave blankets. It is ridiculous. Dealing with the staff is unbelievable also. I know in the last twenty years the cemetery has changed hands a few times and each time it has gotten excessively worse. Compassion could not hurt Woodmere as well as treating people as if they are shopping for a car of furniture or something. This should be a time to come across as a sales pitch. Shame on Woodmere for not upholding their end of the agreements that are signed and purchased at the time of a loved ones passing. we even had to purchase our own grass seed for the grave site for my parents!!!!! read more

I really can't give this place even a 1 star. It grieves me that I can't give them a big 0. The staff is horrible. I have family buried there for over a hundred years and have had difficult getting any help from the staff. I called and asked if someone could take a photo of a veterans grave that is in my family who recently had a new headstone placed in place of the old one which they had laid flat and allowed grass to grow over and then used heavy mowing equipment that destroyed the headstone. I asked if they were going to replaced it and I got a big flat "NO." I sent pictures to the Veterans Administration and got my paper work together for a grandfather that had fought in the Civil War. The VA replaced the headstone. I was waiting for a call from Woodmere to let me know if they received it and if it was placed. 2 days before Memorial Day. I was hoping to have it placed by Memorial Day. I was told they would call be back. They never did. Then today I called and ask if they received it and had they placed it. This was early in the morning about an hour after they opened. I was told it was placed. I asked if it was possible for someone to take a picture of it for me since I live on the west coast. I was assured that it would be sent via message to me. Called 3 times today and let them know that I hadn't received it. No call and no picture. I was hoping to see it since family would be going there tomorrow and I wanted to make sure it was placed correctly i.e.: upright like it's supposed to be installed instead of lying flat as was the last one. I believe they thought mowing would be easier if they removed it from its upright position and placed it flat. I feel they have no concern about your deceased. Only money! No one returns a call. No one seems to care about the deceased loved ones who still look over their final resting place. I hate to have had such a bad experience. I'm sure the turn over is great and the staff is there only for the paycheck and have no sincere feelings for the families. read more

Horrible. The office has been remodeled so no one can be seen when you do inside. Might as well be talking to a ghost. When I called for hours of operation on a Sunday, no hours were given for that particular day of the week. Tried to find a grave number online so I didn't have to stand in an empty office waiting for someone to magical appear, and finding a grave number does not seem to be an option. Actually when I was directed to their website online, it went to another cemetery in the Detroit area. So forget that. Very, very disorganized.. read more

My first time handling arrangements for a loved one...and yeah, the office was not the most organized, but they were not pushy sales people, and it ended up they were so very nice/caring people, they treated my family like their own..I will never forget you guys at Woodmere for everything you did...Thank you. read more
