Absolute joke- I ordered the pit master "enough for 2" this is what I got - also they forgot all of the sides and the sauces. What an absolute JOKE

It took me a minute to realize that Woodpile opened this second location. I thought they only had one, but I guess they now have two. So, good, because I was hungry for some barbeque! It's set up like the other location but has what seems to be a lot more seating. I ordered the classic brisket sandwich because that's what I love the most. They chopped it for me, and since I was the only one in here, I got my food in no time. The brisket was excellent and so was the service. But, the barbeque sauce wasn't good at all. I'm not a fan of vinegar BBQ sauce, so that one was out. Then, they had a smoky one and it tasted good, but not great. I couldn't place the taste, but it was familiar. Like Lawry's salt maybe? The other one was okay as well, but had more of a honey taste to it. They also had ketchup here too as well, which was surprising. I ended up getting the tater tots as a side since I was kind of hungry. they were good. oh, another issue I had. No napkins on the table? for BBQ? Also, if you want a drink refill you have to go to the bar to get one, which I did. The other thing. While the food and service here is fabulous, this place is crazy expensive. I don't know about the family platters, but the individual meals don't have any kind of combo incentive. Everything's ala carte here. Want a side? $3 to $4 at least. Plus, its a small upcharge for mac and cheese? For a drink, one side and a brisket sandwich I dropped $20 and change. That seems like a lot to me. While the BBQ is good, I also know that there's other places closer to home that charge less then these guys. Overall a great experience and fabulous food. I would gladly return in the future for more.

Oh man, what a treat this place is!! Some of the best barbecue around! Their sauces pair perfectly with all meats, their sides are hearty and bountiful, their drinks are excellent, and their candied bacon is the GOAT within the game! Probably the best service staff I've encountered at a busy place, they are always smiling and greet you enthusiastically. If you're looking for a spot to eat, the outside is nice and fairly available most days. We have been there multiple times and often are one of a handful of people. All in all, it's a great place

Dry meats and unflavored sides. Yuck!!

This is not good bbq, seems like someone is learning how to cook for the first time. And if you disagree you've never had good bbq. Meats are always dry to say the least. I Just ordered burnt ends and they were like meat rocks covered in sauce. Mac was cold and bland, when I order the beans I'm always disappointed. Just sad out of the 8 times I've had food from here it's been ok twice. This is not real bbq. More like an Overpriced learning experience.

Soup that this place calls chili. Never again!

Order the chili and get what I got! You will get a chili flavored soup with meat crumbles at the bottom in a paper bowl. No class, just crass. Also, there is no ambiance. The kitchen staff yell at each other. It is not the customer that makes this a bad place. It does that all on its own. Eat there again? Not a chance!

Order at the entrance. Seat yourself. Food is brought to your table. There is a list behind the register if items not available. Bacon was on that list & my friend informed me that I'm supposed to get a free slice of bacon my 1st time. Sadly, no bacon for me. It didn't take long at all for our food to be ready. Differnt bbq sauces are available at your table.

First time trying this place and I have to say I will eat here again. Ordered the one meat combo (burnt ends) with slaw and Mac. I also ordered the brisket chili with cheese and onions. For the price it was a good size serving. I have another whole meal. I didn't even get to the chili. I ordered the shack sauce and it had a nice flavor. A little sweet and a bit heat balanced just right. My kid ordered the burnt ends nachos and loved them.

BBQ to start the new year with tonight. We wanted the BBQ nachos with the pulled chicken, queso, pico, guacamole and jalapeño, but they don't have it at all today. They said they aren't making the nachos while they are doing carry out only. Too much guacamole or queso wasted. We had to instead order the Turkey Reuben. I got the two meat combo with the pulled chicken and Turkey. Ordered the side of the cole slaw and waffle fries and the shack BBQ sauce. They have a few folks working the back kitchen and a few working the front area for carry out. All staff are sporting masks. Carry items added to $29.68 tonight, reasonably priced. There are more stacks of Turkey slices on the Turkey Reuben than in my two meat combo platter. The Turkey Reuben is okay, Turkey is quite dry. The waffle fries were of course wilted from the 10 minute drive home. We had to put them back in the toaster oven to crisp them up a little bit. The turkey slices in the two meat combo is also dry. It has some flavor in the outer skin of the chicken, but the shack barbecue sauce makes all the proteins taste a little bit better. The cole slaw is okay. Had a honey mustard version at the location in Clawson and that was more flavorful. The pickled red onions aren't bad, tart, but a nice contrast to the rather dry Turkey meat. Service was quick and fast at least. Food wasn't as good as their Clawson location for us, but it was carry out after all.

    Has anyone tried their turkey?

Yes I had it on a smoked club and it perfectly smoked and not dry.

There is likely better barbecue in the area. Each meat varied heavily in quality, so they will be rated individually below. I ordered the Pitmaster's Platter, which included multiple samples of the meats. Meats Beef Brisket (2/5): For some reason, this brisket was extremely dry. There was no moisture between the meat fibers. When doing the brisket bend test over a finger, the brisket barely even moved. The bark had the texture of jerky. I would not recommend this meat option. Pulled Pork (3/5): The pulled pork was moist in some places and dry in others. This meat was extremely average. There were some parts of the pulled pork with a heavy smoke flavor, which I did appreciate. Pulled Chicken (2/5): This was just as dry as the brisket. There were small portions that did have some moisture, but I could not finish the dry portions. Cheddar Jalapeno Sausage (4/5): This meat was the best among the options. Incredibly juicy, heavy on the seasoning, and the cheese was oozing out of the sausage. If I were to come back, I would order this again. Ribs (2/5): Again, just as dry as the other meats. There was no pull, and the meat was tough on the outside. Sides Mac & Cheese (3/5): This macaroni and cheese was nothing special, despite other reviews raving about it. It is a standard mac and cheese with slightly soggy breadcrumbs on top. Coleslaw (5/5): Somehow, this was the best part of the meal. The coleslaw tasted extremely fresh. There was just enough sauce to coat the vegetables without taking away from their quality and crunch. The coleslaw being the best part of the meal says a lot about this establishment. I do not think I will be coming back here again.

At each table gloves, chopsticks, hand sanitizer, plastic straws, and plastic utensils were provided. Which is such a thoughtful touch. The fried chicken was SUPER juicy and tender with a cornflake fried batter covered in chosen sauces. There were so many flavor options to choose from, which made it fun to decide. The pieces were huge, so the price felt completely worth it. The servers were especially kind and patient with us as first-timers. They took the time to explain the most popular flavors and gave great recommendations, which we really appreciated. The only downside were the sides. The onion rings and fries didn't seem to have any seasoning. So, they tasted a bit plain compared to the bold, flavorful chicken. I'd definitely come back for the chicken alone. If you're craving crispy, juicy fried chicken with tons of flavor options, this is a spot worth trying!

The staff of both establishments are friendly and polite. I recommend going on a Wednesday, which is when BBQ tacos are a special. I've tried 3 of those, most of the meats, and all the sides. The tacos I've had are beef brisket, pig belly burnt ends, and pulled pork. Of those, the burnt ends taco was the best, but all 3 were great. If you came here just for the tacos, I wouldn't blame you at all. As for the meats, I truthfully don't have a favorite, because they were all that good. The ribs were juicy and tender. The brisket looked and tasted just right. I didn't even need a knife to cut it. The meatloaf was unlike any I've ever had. It was incredibly tender and had a great, smoky flavor. Although pastrami is beef, it tasted like a very well seasoned ham. Most places I've gotten burnt ends from dry them out, but that is not the case here whatsoever. The pulled pork was standard compared to the rest of the meats, but still better than average. None of the sides disappoint. The beans appear runny, but were delicious. The mac had a generous amount of cheese, and wasn't dry either. I've only had collard greens a couple times, but I found it enjoyable. The potatoes were delightful, but what took them to the next level was the toum it was served with. Toum is a Lebanese garlic sauce. The slaw was creamy and flavorful. Blueberry cornbread is something I've never seen on a BBQ menu before. Both that and the pickles tasted as they were advertised. Smoked Lotus blew me away, and I'll even go as far as saying it's my new favorite, local spot for BBQ. Even the pricing is fair, especially for the quality you're getting. If you love BBQ and haven't been here yet, you're missing out.

Walking into Detroit 75 Kitchen in Madison Heights for a quick lunch, my expectations were high!…read moreFrom a visual standpoint, the food looks simply irresistible on social. Before I even got to the food, the restaurant itself made a great first impression. The property is incredibly well maintained inside and out. There's a spacious outdoor patio for Michigan summer days, along with plenty of indoor seating ranging from communal tables for larger groups to individual booths if you're flying solo. It's a thoughtfully designed space that feels welcoming no matter why you're there. Now, let's talk about the food. I'll admit something that surprised me. I've been to Detroit probably 50 times, and I honestly can't remember ever hearing about a Detroit-style cheesesteak. Judging by the walls covered in awards and accolades, though, it's clearly something they're known for. The sandwich certainly sounds like a winner on paper: ribeye and sirloin, provolone and Swiss cheeses, roasted mushrooms and peppers, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, sweet pickled jalapeños, aioli, house-made vinaigrette, all served on a freshly baked sesame roll. I mean... what's not to love? Unfortunately, this is where my experience took a turn. The ingredients themselves are good. The flavors are there. The problem is the execution. The ratios are simply off. The freshly baked roll completely dominates the sandwich, overwhelming everything inside it. The steak gets lost between all that bread, and instead of each bite showcasing the beef, cheese, and vegetables working together, the bread becomes the star--and that's not what you want from a cheesesteak. I do want to give credit where it's due. The portions are generous, and I especially appreciated that they take the time to make their own dipping sauces for the fries. Little details like that don't go unnoticed. There are plenty of positives here, and it's easy to see why Detroit 75 Kitchen has earned such a loyal following. But as someone who takes sandwiches seriously, I think this one is technically flawed. A great sandwich is all about balance, and for me, this one never found it. I genuinely wanted to love it. This sandwich lover just couldn't get behind the way it was built.
