Walking into Detroit 75 Kitchen in Madison Heights for a quick lunch, my expectations were high! From a visual standpoint, the food looks simply irresistible on social. Before I even got to the food, the restaurant itself made a great first impression. The property is incredibly well maintained inside and out. There's a spacious outdoor patio for Michigan summer days, along with plenty of indoor seating ranging from communal tables for larger groups to individual booths if you're flying solo. It's a thoughtfully designed space that feels welcoming no matter why you're there. Now, let's talk about the food. I'll admit something that surprised me. I've been to Detroit probably 50 times, and I honestly can't remember ever hearing about a Detroit-style cheesesteak. Judging by the walls covered in awards and accolades, though, it's clearly something they're known for. The sandwich certainly sounds like a winner on paper: ribeye and sirloin, provolone and Swiss cheeses, roasted mushrooms and peppers, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, sweet pickled jalapeños, aioli, house-made vinaigrette, all served on a freshly baked sesame roll. I mean... what's not to love? Unfortunately, this is where my experience took a turn. The ingredients themselves are good. The flavors are there. The problem is the execution. The ratios are simply off. The freshly baked roll completely dominates the sandwich, overwhelming everything inside it. The steak gets lost between all that bread, and instead of each bite showcasing the beef, cheese, and vegetables working together, the bread becomes the star--and that's not what you want from a cheesesteak. I do want to give credit where it's due. The portions are generous, and I especially appreciated that they take the time to make their own dipping sauces for the fries. Little details like that don't go unnoticed. There are plenty of positives here, and it's easy to see why Detroit 75 Kitchen has earned such a loyal following. But as someone who takes sandwiches seriously, I think this one is technically flawed. A great sandwich is all about balance, and for me, this one never found it. I genuinely wanted to love it. I might be alone on this one, but overall, Detroit 75 Kitchen was just meh for me. The food and concept are solid, and I can see why people enjoy it, but the overall experience felt more average than memorable. The space still feels a little more like a food truck setup than a true sit-down restaurant. The seating, open space, lighting, and overall vibe didn't quite give that warm "come in and stay awhile" feeling. A few things also made the dine-in experience feel a bit disconnected, like orders being called loudly across the room and the music not fully matching the crowd at the time. Nothing terrible, just not as comfortable or polished as I expected. The $1.50 charge for a very small side of sauce felt high for a dine-in setting. Very busy on a Friday night with carry outs and dine ins. We ordered 2 sandwiches and fries to dine in and it was about a 20 minute wait for our food. The employees are very nice and helpful, the decor is really cool and interesting. The prices are a bit high so we hoped the food would live up to the hype, and it did. The Atwater chicken was delicious, very saucy though and I needed several napkins. My husband really enjoyed the cheesesteak but there were a lot of jalapeños on it. First time trying this place and ordered it through UberEats. Everything was very good! Ordered the cheesesteak and Cajun fries. Fries were a bit soggy but I attribute that to delivery so I'd love to try them in the restaurant. The seasoning and spice level was perfect and they went great with the jalapeño ketchup! The cheesesteak and sauce was delicious. It was also so much food! Just a bit on the messy side so I was glad they gave us a million napkins and wet wipes. Solid choice! One of my new favorite places! Very straightforward to order online. Items can sell out closer to closing time, and I have found out that it will update online as well which is nice. Pick up time has always been accurate despite how busy it can get. The restaurant is in a good location, not a busy street so easy to get to. Ample parking. A lot of seating inside that is under-utilized right now since it's colder out. I've only gotten taken out here and I have loved it every time. Portions are large! The fries are a whole tray/box of fries, and I love that they don't skimp out on the amount of food. Every item I've gotten (3rd Street Detroit Cheesesteak, Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, Garlic Cilantro Fries) have all been incredible. Most of the time, I can't finish the entire meal (especially if I order fries) in one sitting, so having leftovers is always great. I'm a big fan of the food truck downtown as a Detroit resident so I was thrilled to have a location open up nearby my employer. The brick & mortar space is great! When I visited it was a weekday evening so it wasn't super busy. Staff was friendly and efficient. Everything tasted fresh and hot. I got my usually BBQ chicken eggrolls I am obsessed with (even my cat stole one out of the box while I wasn't looking and devoured half of one before I noticed D:). Tried the shrimp po boy and oh man--I could have probably eaten two of them. So good. I loved that the shrimp wasn't in a heavy breading. I finished it all in one sitting which I normally don't do. The Corktown BBQ beef still has my heart overall, but the Po' Boy will be a regular in rotation for sure. Keep up the great work crew. read more

have wanted to try this place for a while now. its a far cry from the Madison Club (I worked across the street for many years). very clean and while the choices were relatively limited, all four of us were able to get something that appealed to us. the chicken shawarma was grilled and tasty. one of us had the fish & chips and he said he was expecting the fries to be a bit more crispy. the other had a big sandwich (can't remember exactly which one) that he could only finish half(but did finish the fries) no alcohol if that's important but we were happy to try it out and it was steadily busy throughout our stay. friendly atmosphere, you can order in person or from a large screen right inside. read more

First time in and it did not disappoint. We ordered the I-75 chicken shawarma sandwich, chicken tenders, fries, and the Fisher Fwy. Fish (catfish), plus a strawberry lemonade. Portions were generous and everything was seasoned really well without being overpowering. The chicken tenders are officially picky-eater approved (which is saying a lot). The catfish was seasoned and cooked just right. The strawberry lemonade was refreshing and not overly sweet. Excellent customer service. The gentleman was friendly, personable, and welcoming. Boy oh boy wouldn't upgrade! I have followed this food truck from Detroit to Troy and now to Madison heights and it's permanent location. I was actually a little fearful that it may change the menu or the taste, but I was wrong. Definitely still a number one sandwich, now in a large clean airy space that definitely can hold a lot more than the parking lot I was used to eating. Place looks cool but when I ordered one sandwich and a fry at 6:03pm I waited till 6:45 till I got the food and the fry were cold. Shawarma Sandwich had no flavor. won't be coming back. read more

I've been watching Chef Mike's social media videos from Detroit 75 Kitchen for quite a while and finally decided to stop in for carryout last week. I'm glad I did. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Shawarma, and it was absolutely incredible--packed with flavor and generously portioned. We also tried the Cheesesteak Egg Rolls and the Shrimp Po' Boy, and both were outstanding. The food was so good that we came back the very next week. This time, we split the Detroit Cheesesteak and an order of Garlic Cilantro Fries with their jalapeño ketchup. Once again, everything was phenomenal. The quality, flavor, and portions are second to none. Every meal we've had has been fresh, delicious, and more than enough food. Detroit 75 Kitchen is an easy 10/10 any day of the week. We wanted to try this place because we love their online videos. But the food and service didn't hold up to the talk. We dined in, eating the food as soon as they called our name. Triple fried fries? They were extremely soggy. But what do you expect when you put a lid on hot food. No vents for steam to release. The fries were also small pieces. Not the quantity, the fries themselves. We did like the jalapeno ketchup. The shawarma had the weirdest sauce on it. And tons of it. It tasted nothing like toom (usually my favorite part of the sandwich). More like a heavily herbed aioli that was twangy? It just didn't match the flavors in the shawarma at all. And because it was saturated in it, there was no getting away from it. It was hard to taste anything else. The fish was decent. Crispy still, glad we got it out of the container asap. You'll need to love old bay seasoning. It's on there thick. We found ourselves trying to shake some off, but eventually just peeled off the top coat of batter so we could taste the fish. Parking. I don't know why areas are blocked off as they are, but if you pull into the angled spaces against the building, you will have to back out (not out of just the space but the entire length of the parking lot) because the exit to drive forward is blocked. It was very frustrating trying to maneuver my truck past pedestrians and other cars trying to also pull in/out. I wanted to move the cones myself and pull forward. The set up just seems dangerous. I'll give any place a second chance, but it will be a while. I'll wait for them to lose the containers for dine in. And will be getting any sauces on the side. read more

This is the ultimate lunch spot with the best subs. My favorites are the shrimp po'boy and the cheesesteak. The bbq chicken egg rolls are also a must! They are so flavorful and crispy. You can tell they use high quality ingredients. When I went they did not have any outdoor or indoor dining areas open. This was a bit annoying and so we just ate in the car.
