I like this place even though it's older, only takes coins and is a little more pricey than other places I've gone to in other states. I was able to wash a TON of laundry quickly and efficiently in their huge washers. And my favorite part was the dryers! Low price and completely dried everything, even large towels in 25 minutes. I also found the guy on-site very helpful and nice. I don't like places that use the cards because they tack on hidden fees and your laundry ends up costing more as a result. I also don't like using my debit card everywhere because I've had ID theft and think coins are fine. Plus, saw older gentlemen washing and know it's harder for seniors to adapt to new technologies so think it's nice there are still places that cater to old school preferences. Woodrow Washateria feels abandoned. This is actually awesome. Neither the change machine nor the soap dispenser ever work, and several of the washers and dryers have been out of order since God was a child. Mostly it feels abandoned because I am always the only one there. Every single time. Light, dark, day, night: the place is always empty. Score. Being alone at the laundromat is SUCH a relief (which is why I keep coming back) but it's also eerie as hell. It's not unlike a horror movie waiting to happen: surreal, overly quiet, just me and my gigantic pile of black tshirts. And let's not forget the unbelievable, sweltering, oppressive heat. My washer died and so I had to find a laundromat to wash some larger items and jeans. I looked at 2 other places and chose Woodrow Washateria - because had excellent parking, new looking machines (all in working order) and it was spotless. A friendly employee explained how I could wash my 3 different loads for best results. Every thing came out looking and feeling clean. There is a Mexican restaurant next door which was great (they have a full bar) and fast. I left with a full stomach and clean clothes. I hate going to the washateria, but this place makes it way more tolerable. Free good wifi, lots of cheap top loads, and a clean bathroom. Most laundromats have a disgusting bathroom, but here it's clean, there's soap, and nothing is broken. Usually no kids running around bored. There's air conditioning, but on nice days, they open up the doors and turn on the fans, so it's kind of pleasant. I've only seen it get crowded one time a week: Sunday afternoon/evening. It's still a pretty small laundromat, so if one person uses 8 machines, it makes a huge difference. People start doing wierd things to lay claims to their washers and dryers. But by 9pm, it's usually back to empty. They close strictly at 11, and by 10:30, the staff is cleaning up and making sure no one is starting new loads. read more

HOT, HOT, HOT!! Not in a Buster Poindexter way, either. It's like being in a restaurant kitchen that smells like soap instead of onions and grease. On the upside, they have tons of top-loading washers, and I'm pretty sure they gave up trying to close at night. On the downside, there are not enough dryers and just three oversize front-loaders that are constantly on the blink. The emergency soap-vending machine has never worked as long as I've been here, but the Shell station next door is happy to punish your forgetfulness with a $3 quart of bleach. Hint: If the change machine is out, you can always hit up Dart Bowl. But beware, that little quarter-shoving-machine game that is change machine adjacent sings a sadistic siren song with its temptuous floating $20's. read more

I always get nervous and skeptical about going to wash my laundry some place that's not my home. But fear not with Woodrow Washateria. This place is clean, affordable, awesome friendly staff. The machine are great. Plenty of room. The staff even opened the door when I got that, gave me dryer sheets and that same attendant went around greeting people and making conversation. A few months ago my long-time washateria on 51st street closed, with a sign saying to go to Woodrow Washateria as an alternative. Online reviews had me almost deciding to not bother trying it, but I did anyway and I'm very glad I did. It's close, the washers and dryers are all new stainless steel with electronic time displays, and work great. There's A/C, and WiFi (though I haven't tested it). And yes, the change machine works properly. I had a problem with a dryer the first time I went, so I left a message with management. They got back to me later that day, and cheerfully resolved the issue to my satisfaction. I went a second time this week, and found that the older dryers had been replaced. I accidentally used one of the larger electronic ones I wasn't familiar with, and amazingly it dried my whole load in just over 15 minutes. I love this place now! read more

They were super helpful during a very busy time and I felt compelled to sign up to write about my experience and spread the word about this place. Our washer broke and the part will take 10 days to get here. Lucky for us Woodrow Washateria is just the street from us. It's a friendly little place. The lady whom I assume is managing during the day is outgoing and friendly and is always picking up trash outside or sweeping inside. The machines are ok. Prices seem competitive. However, the machines, (front loaders) soap dispensers are awful. They are dirty and mildewy and the rinse slot on all of them are plugged up with dirty water. That really grosses me out. read more

This place is repulsive. It always smells like someone pooped on the floor. The one lady who watches over it is very rude and is doing a terrible job. One time I came in, put my stuff in the wash and went to use the bathroom and someone had crapped all over the seat and wall and floor, and it was just left there to rot. No one could be located to attend to it. The equipment is covered in grime and dust. Clearly no one is cleaning it. I'm actually worried about it being a safety hazard. I absolutely love this place, it's a Austin gem! With its originality, and awesome staff! I've been coming for years and never had any issues, just recently I forgot about one of my loads nothing but polo shirts about 600$ worth, I left in a washer and realized 3days later I called left a message within hours the management called me back and said they still had my shirts hanging in the back! Now that's customer service! Did I mention Debbie! She opens and closes the store cleans and just caters to everybody's need, a true Austin personality charismatic, funny, and very caring, I should know I'm from here as well and let's face it real austinites are hard to come by these days! I hate this place. I will never go again if I can help it. Let me repeat myself: I HATE this place. I also hate the gas station next door and when I find out the name, my one star will follow for them too. Okay, where to start. Let me first say that I usually go to this amazing huge Washateria on North Lamar (I'm giving them 5 stars when I write their review). Everything at my normal place is in Spanish and I don't speak any Spanish but they have a bazillion beautifully clean machines in multiple sizes that are never out of order, several soda machines, arcade games, a massage chair, and televisions playing soccer and American Movies (in Spanish but I have usually seen the movie so I can enjoy the TVs anyway). But today, I was feeling sorry for my dog who obviously wanted attention and an outing. I thought, "gee, I can take him to that Washateria by Thunderbird Coffeehouse. We can grab a coffee while my clothes are drying." Instead, my trip was one nightmare after another. Upon arriving, I immediately noticed that with only four people doing laundry (including me), most of the washers and all of the dryers were full. Several of the machines were out of order. I put my clothes in three machines. Two of the machines were the same size and ran for the same amount of time but one cost $1.50 and the other cost $1.00. My third machine cost $3.75 and I would not have needed to use such an expensive machine but all of the smaller machines were being used or broken. When I ran out of detergent, I noticed that the detergent machine at Woodrow Washateria was Out Of Order, so I had to go next door to that m-f-ing gas station to purchase the tiniest bottle of Tide I have ever seen...less that 1 liter, for $6.95 + tax!!! That's over $7 dollars. I noticed that I would not be able to use my $10 in the Woodrow Washateria change machine because their change machine only changes $1 or $5 dollar bills. So, I asked the gas station lady for some quarters. She stated that she could only give me $2 worth of quarters and then she ranted about how much she hates the Washateria next door (perhaps why they price their bottles of Tide at $7 so that customers will NEVER want to return to the Washateria). My experience at the Gas Station was just as bad as the Washateria and I WILL NEVER return to either place for as long as I live in Austin. Fortunately, I did make it to Thunderbird Coffee, ordered a drink, and sat with my dog while my clothes dried. The fact that an incredible hottie was sitting close enough that I could stare and de-stress from HORRIBLE WOODROW WASHATERIA experience made me feel just a tiny bit better (thank you Thunderbird hottie). read more

After reading all of the reviews posted from a ways back, I was beginning to think we were talking about a different place. My first trip to this place was several weeks ago. I was called out to repair the broken airconditioner. This place is under new management, and they now have an a/c that blows cold air, free wifi and owners, that do their very best to see that their customers are comfortable during their visit. I say give the new owners a chance, and you will find that they will do everything in their pwer to make your experience there much better than they have been in the past. Okay....so I have been coming to this place for only 5 months and I must say that the quarter machine ALWAYS worked for me and I never saw a sign that is was ever broken. I did laundry on Sunday mornings and wednesday evenings. Both of those days it was always very quiet and every so often there would be tons of people there but nothing all crazy. Sometimes the washer was dirty but then I would just use the one next to it and well there really isn't anything I can do about that. I believe in the last month or so it has been under new managment which made it now have better lighting, cleaner washers and dryers and the A/C works better. I now have a washer and dryer but if it broke I would for sure go to this place. Yes, its not that pretty and yes the soap machines are broken but its cheaper to buy soap at target anyways and just rely on the quarter machines. I liked this place and I hope ya'll experience something better and for sure not worse then this. Yay for new management and making sure the washers are cleaner!!!!!! read more
