First off, in the middle of this face-melting summer, I really appreciate that archery can take place indoors, with strong AC. The set up is cozy, with the archery supply shop in the front, and the range in the back. If you're a beginner, you can take up an hour introductory lesson with Don to get the hang of it. The lessons are by appointment only, so be sure to call ahead of time. I brought my friend, and Ed really made sure to take care of us to make sure we had fun. I had such a great experience, that I am considering getting my own gear to practice with. This range is such a delightful find tucked away in the SGV area. I've always wanted to take up archery, and was pleased to find this place relatively close to me. This is a fun date idea, or a practical hobby to channel your inner Katniss. Parking on the streets, or in the back of the store. Closed on Sundays.

If you've been curious and interested in archery; give this place a try! The staff is fantastic, and the vibe is casual. Other than archery lessons, they also sell a lot of equipments. It is indoor and can only fit eight people at a time but for bigger events they have additional space in the back. If there are eight people shooting, there is a little wiggle room. ::Experiance:: We were paired up with Instructor Don. He measured our arms to see which Finger Tab and Arm Guard would fit. Then we got our bow, and arrows. I was a bit nervous at first, but eventually got more comfortable. Don taught us very thoroughly. He was friendly and funny! When our form, stance, and grip was not right, he pointed it out and helped correct it. Don also told us which eye to aim with and showed us how to have a telescopic sight. We were not able to hold the bow steady at first, but the more we practiced, our aim got better. Not knowing where to look at the target, Don used a happy face squishy to guide us; it worked!! For our first time, I think we did well, and it's all THANKS to DON!! We enjoyed our lesson so much we ended up staying for another hour. ::Customer Service:: I made the appointment with Jeff; he was friendly. Scheduling the archery lesson with Jeff was easy. Ed welcomed us when we walked in. After we signed the form and paid, he introduced us to Don. ::Highlight:: -DON!! Learning archery with Don was fun. He was patient, helpful, and knowledgeable. Don is a great instructor. -Ed and Don provided amazing customer service. ::Tips:: -Call to schedule a lesson. -There are equipment package deals on their website. ::M's Notes:: -Street Parking -Parking in the back

    Shenanigans during the lesson!

Woods Archery Range at the Crossbow Store is located down on Santa Anita, you will find it amongst a row of warehouses. Luckily their sign is quite large, so you can easily find your target! Parking right behind the facility, and plenty of street parking should you have trouble out back, which probably will never happen! The storekeeper was very friendly and greeted us and welcomed us to his store with much enthusiasm! He got us checked in, and we got right to it. It's a small group lesson, so it feels very intimate, my instructor Don showed up a bit later to the party, but he made quite the entrance. As he bursts through the doors and walked up to us, he showed us the way of the bow. After a few practice shots, he provides you with tips so that you can compensate for different factors based on your form and stance. As long as you are shooting the exact same way, you will eventually be a bullseye machine! But, Don also says that if you hit the red or yellow part of the target, it means that "you're gonna eat!". I think it's a great venue for beginners especially since the lessons are so small. You have more time with the instructors, and the controlled environment allows you to build a solid foundation to practice in. Everyone was great, and I would probably come back to try and shoot a compound bow sometime in the future. Had a great time, and found that the hour went by very fast! Their store seems well furnished with both types of bows, and everyone knows the equipment very well. If you have any questions, I believe that this is a proper place to purchase your first bow! (Oh! And if you are attending the lesson, do not forget to eat before you come, apparently it can effect your overall performance in the long run!)

This place is awesome!! I called the morning of to see if they could get me and my friend in for an appointment that night. Ed was so kind to squeeze us in that day even though there was still another group. Upon arriving, Ed greeted us and made us feel very comfortable seeing it was our first archery lesson. We were paired up with instructor Laurence, who also assists the USA Olympic coach. He was super nice and patient and taught us proper technique. He also went into thorough explanation of why we hold the bow and nock the arrow specific ways. Laurence was a great instructor who is very technical and made our archery lesson super fun! I'll definitely be going back. Can't wait for their new location to open!

First off, the staff here are super chill and friendly!! I called and the person I spoke to was extremely welcoming! Scheduling an appointment was not hard. Usually at the end of the summer, there are more openings, so it was really easy. I was able to make an appointment for the next day after work from 6-7. Yes, they open until 8 I believe, so you could definitely try to make it after that work schedule and shoot some arrows! I bought a Groupon for two people ($25) for a one-hour lesson. I also realized they also have the deal on their website, so I didn't exactly have to get it on Groupon. It doesn't really matter, but definitely check out both since the deals probably will change! This is my second time doing archery and my first experience was somewhere else and it was meh. Here at The Crossbow Store, the staff really take care of you! The instructor helps you with the gear in the beginning. After you've settled, they help you with your form. We had Grace as our instructor. She's great and resourceful (she said she's been doing archery for over 10 years) when it came to teaching us. Parking is also another great factor here. There's a parking lot, where you sort of enter at the side of the building. There's also parking on the street! I will definitely be back and you should definitely check them out!

Staff is friendly as ever. Range fee has gone up to $20 per day or $50 per month. They finally have a target on wheels so that it can be brought closer to the firing line. And bring your own bow stand. Would be nice if they had more tables to setup and a tool station for adjustments.

It was our first time here since our little ones (12 yrs old) wanted to try archery for the longest time and we found this place through Goupons. We are glad that we did. It was a great experience and instructor Don was very patient & helpful. He answered all our questions & he made the lesson very fun. And yes, we are definitely coming back!! And our 12 yrs old wanted to get his own bows & arrows already :8)

Best archery store closest to DTLA. Very helpful stuff members. They have a reasonable collection of everything, and some of them are not listed on the website, so make sure you ask! And you won't be disappointed.

Came here for a birthday party for a group of 10 of us and we had Ed and Don helping us shoot (some of us for the first time). They were funny and patient with us and gave us all individual tips on how to shoot at our best. There was a table to put the pizza we ordered so it was perfect for a larger group. We will definitely be back!

Hands down a fun time! It was my first archery experience and Ed was a remarkable instructor. He was very accommodating, patient and funny too! This is a great destination for groups, couples or just on your own.

Ed was very friendly and helpful. First he did a quick tour around the place. then he got us hand guards and explained everything very carefully. He took his time to show my husband and I Individually how to use the bow. He is a great teacher. Luckily I didn't hit anything outside of the target. It takes a few rounds before getting use to it. He even let us shoot from the 20 yard range towards the end of our session.

Second time coming for a lesson with my group of friends. Don's an awesome instructor. If you're a beginner they're very patient. He and Ruben will give you pointers when you need it. Everyone here is very friendly, chill, and easy to talk to. They will help you with any questions you have. Highly recommended to take a lesson!

This review is directed at ownership and management…read more I frequent Turner's for fishing gear and have consistently had positive experiences with the older gentleman in that department. He's knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and genuinely helpful. He represents what a specialty retailer should be. I've spent 1000's on firearms and ammunition over the years. Unfortunately, this visit was the opposite. I came in looking for M&P Shield 9mm magazines. Only one in stock -- not a problem. I figured I'd grab some ammo while I was there. As I stood in front of the ammo section trying to read the boxes, two employees directly in front of me made zero effort to acknowledge me. Not a "Can I help you?" Not even eye contact. Instead, they were occupied repeatedly racking the slide on a pistol and discussing how it was "blemished." The way it was being handled made it feel less like product inspection and more like someone building a case for why it should be discounted. I can't say for certain that the larger employee was intentionally trying to create or exaggerate wear to justify purchasing it himself -- but if that wasn't the case, the optics were spectacularly poor. What really stood out was the conversation. They were openly speaking negatively about other customers -- people who sounded like regulars -- directly in front of me. It takes a certain level of tone-deaf confidence to mock customers while another one is standing three feet away. I finally asked if they might have additional magazines in the back. The larger employee ignored me initially. When he did respond, it was with, "Are you talking to me? I'm doing paperwork," as though customer interaction was an unreasonable interruption. This was moments after he demonstrated that he was fully capable of multitasking slide manipulation and social commentary. I briefly considered asking for a manager, but decided it wasn't worth engaging further. If basic awareness and professionalism are optional on the floor, that's a leadership issue, not just an employee one. I left disappointed -- not because inventory was limited, but because the standard of service was. Specialty stores survive on expertise and professionalism. When that slips, you're just a warehouse with attitude. I hope management takes this seriously. There are strong employees at this location. Unfortunately, consistency appears to be selective.

I was fortunate enough to book a class, since they still had openings. In order to book, you are required to pay $5 per person, and each person shooting needs a reservation. For the first time archer classes you need to arrive 15 minutes to sign in, get placed with a group/instructor, get the gear (they measure your arms, for the bow and arrows) the first-time archer classes are 8 AM and the returning is at 10 AM. Our instructor was very informative and helpful throughout the class. We also benefit from having a trainee in class where he was shadowing the main instructor. He was helpful with assisting and correcting our form. I was in a group with 9 other people. Each group was led by an instructor and taken to their own shooting area to learn the etiquette, rules, and how to shoot properly. He provides demonstrations and tips for correct shooting. After each demonstration, instructor invited the group to the line to practice shooting. Instructions were very clear and helpful. At the end, they provide balloons as targets to shoot. If you were able to pop the balloon, you get a cool pin. After the class was done, the instructor gave us a card to show proof that we've taken the first class, and we can sign up for the returning class if we decide to. Parking is limited. Per City of Pasadena regulations you need to be certified to practice at the range, which entails about an hour long class and a small fee. Just keep in mind that it will take about a month to get your cert sent to you, so do it in advance. Absolutely worth it. It is also the oldest continuously operating field archery range in the world.
