The staff is very unprofessional. I made a mistake on the Range it was made to feel like a villain there. Never felt comfortable going back.

First off, in the middle of this face-melting summer, I really appreciate that archery can take place indoors, with strong AC. The set up is cozy, with the archery supply shop in the front, and the range in the back. If you're a beginner, you can take up an hour introductory lesson with Don to get the hang of it. The lessons are by appointment only, so be sure to call ahead of time. I brought my friend, and Ed really made sure to take care of us to make sure we had fun. I had such a great experience, that I am considering getting my own gear to practice with. This range is such a delightful find tucked away in the SGV area. I've always wanted to take up archery, and was pleased to find this place relatively close to me. This is a fun date idea, or a practical hobby to channel your inner Katniss. If you've been curious and interested in archery; give this place a try! The staff is fantastic, and the vibe is casual. Other than archery lessons, they also sell a lot of equipments. It is indoor and can only fit eight people at a time but for bigger events they have additional space in the back. If there are eight people shooting, there is a little wiggle room. ::Experiance:: We were paired up with Instructor Don. He measured our arms to see which Finger Tab and Arm Guard would fit. Then we got our bow, and arrows. I was a bit nervous at first, but eventually got more comfortable. Don taught us very thoroughly. He was friendly and funny! When our form, stance, and grip was not right, he pointed it out and helped correct it. Don also told us which eye to aim with and showed us how to have a telescopic sight. We were not able to hold the bow steady at first, but the more we practiced, our aim got better. Not knowing where to look at the target, Don used a happy face squishy to guide us; it worked!! For our first time, I think we did well, and it's all THANKS to DON!! Woods Archery Range at the Crossbow Store is located down on Santa Anita, you will find it amongst a row of warehouses. Luckily their sign is quite large, so you can easily find your target! Parking right behind the facility, and plenty of street parking should you have trouble out back, which probably will never happen! The storekeeper was very friendly and greeted us and welcomed us to his store with much enthusiasm! He got us checked in, and we got right to it. It's a small group lesson, so it feels very intimate, my instructor Don showed up a bit later to the party, but he made quite the entrance. As he bursts through the doors and walked up to us, he showed us the way of the bow. After a few practice shots, he provides you with tips so that you can compensate for different factors based on your form and stance. As long as you are shooting the exact same way, you will eventually be a bullseye machine! But, Don also says that if you hit the red or yellow part of the target, it means that "you're gonna eat!". I think it's a great venue for beginners especially since the lessons are so small. You have more time with the instructors, and the controlled environment allows you to build a solid foundation to practice in. Everyone was great, and I would probably come back to try and shoot a compound bow sometime in the future. Had a great time, and found that the hour went by very fast! Their store seems well furnished with both types of bows, and everyone knows the equipment very well. If you have any questions, I believe that this is a proper place to purchase your first bow! (Oh! This place is awesome!! I called the morning of to see if they could get me and my friend in for an appointment that night. Ed was so kind to squeeze us in that day even though there was still another group. Upon arriving, Ed greeted us and made us feel very comfortable seeing it was our first archery lesson. We were paired up with instructor Laurence, who also assists the USA Olympic coach. He was super nice and patient and taught us proper technique. He also went into thorough explanation of why we hold the bow and nock the arrow specific ways. Laurence was a great instructor who is very technical and made our archery lesson super fun! Eddie was patient with us and explained that we should have called ahead. He then checked with Lawrence, the instructor, who agreed to fit us in & for that we were glad and happy. Lawrence is a great teacher and took the time to show us the tricks of the trade. We had a great time shooting, laughing and even had a friendly competition going on. Taking shooting back to its traditional roots, a bow and arrow. Archery was something I've always wanted to try when I was younger. Today I finally managed to get a chance to live out this desire and I was NOT disappointed. I am so happy with my experience here and I am definitely hoping to continue going. Since it was my first time, the instructors taught me the basics of how to hold a bow, shoot and the protocol of the range. The instructors are patient and helpful, staying near by to give helpful tips and teach for better aim and of course, safety, but you also have the liberty to just practice shooting targets and have fun. i bought a crossbow advertised with adjustable stock. you guessed it , stock don't adjust. they have their email turned off so you can't email them. their phone message box is always full so you can't leave a message. woods archery appears to be a scam. or, they closed their store and are selling off the inventory and you can't contact them to stand behind their product. the value is crap because you can't adjust the stock as advertised. my advice is "Don't buy from this store, they appear to me to be a ripoff conn game, once you buy from them you can't contact them. they have your money. i give them no stars on all accounts read more

First off, the staff here are super chill and friendly!! I called and the person I spoke to was extremely welcoming! Scheduling an appointment was not hard. Usually at the end of the summer, there are more openings, so it was really easy. I was able to make an appointment for the next day after work from 6-7. Yes, they open until 8 I believe, so you could definitely try to make it after that work schedule and shoot some arrows! I bought a Groupon for two people ($25) for a one-hour lesson. I also realized they also have the deal on their website, so I didn't exactly have to get it on Groupon. It doesn't really matter, but definitely check out both since the deals probably will change! This is my second time doing archery and my first experience was somewhere else and it was meh. Here at The Crossbow Store, the staff really take care of you! The instructor helps you with the gear in the beginning. After you've settled, they help you with your form. We had Grace as our instructor. She's great and resourceful (she said she's been doing archery for over 10 years) when it came to teaching us. Parking is also another great factor here. There's a parking lot, where you sort of enter at the side of the building. There's also parking on the street! I will definitely be back and you should definitely check them out! read more

Normally I go to OC Archery but when I found out this place had a range I figured I'd give it a try rather than drive all the way down to Mission Viejo. I called at about 11 on a Saturday to reserve a lane and they tell me that the only openings they have that day are at 3 or 5. When I get there the range was empty and it doesn't look like anybody has been shooting for hours. Between this and the fact that I was there for 2 and 1/2 hours and the only other people who came in were a couple who looked like they just randomly walked in and wanted to try it makes me wonder if they were really as busy as they said they were when I called ahead. Although I'm also wondering if most of those appointments were no shows given how the address in Yelp is wrong. (They're actually like 2 miles down the street from where Yelp says they are.) The range itself seemed pretty under equipped. When I asked for a target they told me just use 1 of the ones already on the wall but they were all pretty shot up already. They also didn't have real bow stands, instead they just had cardboard tubes, which are fine if you're using 1 of their rental recurves but I had my personal compound bow which I either had to carry with me down range when I got my arrows or had to put on the floor and lay against the wall. The last gripe I have isn't that big of a deal but the staff seemed pretty hands off while I was there. The entire time I was shooting they only checked on me once. I'm assuming since I was the only 1 shooting and I had my own equipment and told them I was an experienced shooter and already knew basic safety they thought I didn't need to be monitored but you would think because accidents can happen and also for liability reasons 1 of the employees would at least look in every once in a while read more

Shooting a crossbow at targets! One of those things my buddy and I have always thought "could" be fun. It's also one of those things we put on the back burner of "Things to do" for a long time. Came here a couple of times. Don and Jeff were really helpful. I got all my bow and arrow accessories here. Don... is don... haha. He knows his stuff and is efficient and helps you out. I've been here many times because I had some issues with my bow (which I ordered from another store online) and I came in for their help. I was hesitant to rate them 5 stars at first because a year ago or so I would call in to ask some questions or check on availability of a product and it would be almost impossible to get someone on the line. I even drove over once and I think one time during open hours it was closed (or they went out to lunch) when I got there.. it was frustrating... BUT NOW recently I've gone over and called and it's been smooth. On top of that the most recent time I dropped by Don and Jeff provided really good customer service. I was shooting out in Pasadena and all the nocks on my arrows popped out of the newly purchased arrows that I got from them.. I called in and Jeff said to just bring the arrows in. I've been to two archery lessons here with my sister and have definitely had a blast each time. A third one is already in the books. Don (the instructor) is very patient and an avid archery shooter himself, so for all newbies (like myself) out there, rest assure you're in good hands. From picking out an arrow and seeing if you're left or right eye dominate - Don will prep you on how to stand, shoot, and retrieve your arrows. It's a very casual range that also sells equipment for those who want to buy their own bow and arrows. P.S. Be sure to call/email ahead as the range is by appointments only. I originally bought a bow from their Amazon store. Afterwards, I needed more gear, so I contacted them by phone for more information. I was delighted to find that I was given a free lesson for buying one of their manufactured equipment (SAS). Sarah, Lawrence and Megan were all very helpful to us. Sarah was very good with following-up with our appointments; Lawrence and Megan taught my wife and I how to shoot as well. Lawrence is an encyclopedia for archery; Megan, according to my wife, was also very phenomenal. I used to go to an archery store in Fullerton, but I hoodwinked into spending money there. Decided to write an update because they are in a new location and I bought a new bow from them. Their old location will always be special to me because I bought my first bow from them, but because of their growing business they were forced to seek a new location. The new location is much bigger in terms of the retail space and the warehouse and range as well. I really like the new store. A lot of space and a better display of their equipment. The range is super nice because it's much larger although I'm still not so great so I'm not utilizing the the length of the new range. I bought a Bear Montana from them. My purchase has been about a year in the making. I don't want to make this too long like most my reviews but to make a very long story short I ordered a 35 pound Montana over the phone with Jeff. The bow was shipped to my home by Bear because they had to make it since the Crossbow store didn't have any in stock. Took about 3 weeks. Because I bought it there they put the nock point on it. Brought it in and the store actually had just opened maybe a week prior. Jeff installed the knocking point based on the arrow I brought in. Didn't see my pal Ed but I did see him a week later when I came back for a lesson. The lesson was by Lawrence. The previous instructor was Don. Don isn't there any longer. Don was great. He was very knowledgeable and by all accounts an excellent instructor. I've seen Don at the old location give lessons and I can see why people liked him. I bought my first bow there but didn't take them up on the offer for a free lesson from Don just because of never getting around to it. This time because I bought a Montana from them I was offered a free lesson from Lawrence. I wasn't going to pass this one up this time. Lawrence was great. His experience and teaching style was beneficial to me. I learned a lot that I am employing in my archery now. I have built upon what he taught me and it has helped improve my shooting tremendously. In the hour lesson he gave me about 40 minutes and then left and Ed took over and monitored my progress and gave me some great suggestions too and we talked and kept up on stuff since I haven't seen him in almost a year. Great seeing Ed. I suggest and recommend The Crossbow Store for all your archery needs. Dealing with Ed and Jeff when buying a bow is very helpful in buying the right bow or equipment whether you are a beginner or have been doing this for a few years like me or if you are advanced, not like me! LOL. If you want to be a better archer then talk to Lawerence. He's going to help you improve and become the archer you should be. His advice and instruction and your implementation of his teaching will bring you closer to where you need to be. Also the prices are great at this shop. They stock pretty much everything. I went in knowing nothing about archery. Everyone there is so nice, helpful and knowledgeable. They take the time to answer all your question. They work with you to make sure you get the right size equipment. The instructor is super nice. He makes sure your understand what you are doing and is very encouraging. He was awesome. Generally speaking by phone and in person to people on staff there were very kind and helpful. The place is really clean and well lit. The manager came around and kept looking at my friend as though there were something wrong with him just because... I asked if it was OK to bring drinks into the range he barked at both of us don't spill it on the floor like we are four years old. At one point he launched into a tirade against my friend who just happens to be over 6 feet tall and a man of color. I noticed that both of his employees seemed rather embarrassed by his behavior. All said and done the manager made us feel very unwelcome and kept ranting on about how he didn't want arrows to go through his sign which just so happens to be exactly above the targets.
