I knew the second I walked in, the Woodshed Tap was my kind of bar! They have really good smash burgers and a nice list of beers on tap. I like how they rotate burger and pizza of the month too. Their frickin' chicken sandwich is a monster and I typically split with my wife. Lastly, they have a cool mug club membership which gets you a nice 20 oz mug, tee shirt, your name and saying on the wall, and invitation to a mug club only party during the summer. Bass Lake is in the middle of nowhere Indiana. This place is a gem for the area. The Woodshed isn't a five star big town restaurant, but given the location, the variety and the quality, this place is worth the stop.....especially if your in the area. I want so badly to like this place. The food is great, and the staff is nice enough, but I have never made it out of there in under 2 hours (totally standard visit, shouldn't take more than about 45 minutes). Example - my last visit: Host stand: 5-6 minutes before being acknowledged 4 more before we got a table At the table: 10 minutes before anyone even made eye contact with us. (They were not busy, just a normal weekday evening around 530) Gave them the entire order then hoping to move things along. 20 minutes to receive our food after ordering Interestingly, they were around to take payment right on time (2-3 minutes) but it took forever (7-8 minutes) to get us boxes (asked for both at the same time). The food is the saving grace. It's all fantastic in my experience (more than five visits, trying different items each time). The staff is nice, just not attentive. I thought it was a little overpriced, but I'm probably cheap . Their location is in a cellphone dead zone; they have WiFi to combat that - good luck getting someone to stop by your table, but you can ask for it when they finally do and get it! We drove down from South Bend as we had seen the FB page and the pictures of the food. It looks amazing! The appetizers started off strong, best burnt ends I have had in a long time. The tochos were basic but tasty! Wait staff was friendly as well. The meal however was disappointing. French fries looked amazing, but all of them that came to the table were cold, and soggy. According to the menu my burger (Flat tire) was to be a double patty with the option to make it a triple and what came to the table was only a single. No sauce, no offering of sauce, it was not as pictured or what was expected. Stromboli was decent, as was my in-laws beef sandwich. Maybe we just came on an off night, but for $77 we don't feel like the trip was worth it, the pictures on FB look sooo good! We left very disappointed. Had a table of twelve which is understandable when the food or service takes awhile but not 2 1/2 hours. Our appetizers took one hour and we received something we didn't order because that were out of what we did. We then waited another 20 minutes for our entries which was good. Food slowly came trickling in but tell me how two chicken strips for little girls took an additional 20 minutes after the rest of the food came out. We were passing food to them to keep them occupied and satisfied. All in all awful service. I don't recommend for a party over 6. We seem to have a mixed bag every time we come here. Some of the hits on the menu are the Fricken Chicken Fried Chicken Sandwich and the soft pretzels. Lately the food has been a little bit inconsistent. The biggest gripe with our most recent experience was getting tater tots that were basically a basket of shredded potatoes. You couldn't even pick them up without them crumbling apart. Maybe they didn't get the oil up to the right temp or maybe they need to find a new supplier. I almost sent them back but my wife reminded me the last time she got tots here that hers were the same way. It's disappointing because I really want to like this place but each time I visit something seems off with quality control in the kitchen. read more

Great addition to Bass Lake! Interior is nicely refreshed, very open compared to when this was Sporty'z. The drawback to this openness, however, is that the restaurant is super loud! Went a few times when the restaurant wasn't even at half capacity, and You could easily hear everyone's conversation. Acoustic tiles/panels on the ceiling might help this. Another minor annoyance- the printed menus. They're very thin and super worn out; they don't make the best first impression when you get seated. Their sister location, Peddler's Pizza in Valpo, has a slightly larger menu. Would love to see some more options carry over, such as a pesto sauce and vegan cheese options for the pizzas. A large downside, in my opinion, is the significant amount of deep-fried food. Yes, I know this is a gastropub/bar/pizza joint, but more fresh-food options would be great, especially if they could be sourced locally. I understand that the shelf life isn't as long, but I'm sure that could be figured out, such as having a rotating weekly special or similar. One last thing- include some more menu variety to appeal to more dietary restrictions! Veggie burgers and cauliflower crust aren't enough! Ultimately, I'm thrilled for another great dining option on Bass Lake, and I'm excited to see The Woodshed improve! read more

(You will know Danielle if you're there because she runs the show) She is behind the bar, giving direction to others always, and is so speedy! On top of that, Dani is loved by all customers, is so engaged, always willing to go the extra mile to show she cares, and goes above and beyond always. I always want to sit at the bar because of her. Not impressed at all the only reason I'll give two stars is the waitress was sweet and it was a nice atmosphere. But the food was not great. For it taking over an hour to get the meals My philly cheese steak was dry. And the burgers have no flavor at all. Definitely won't be coming back not worth it. This place is really hit and miss for me. There are times when the food is great, and other times when they just can't seem to get things right. Their bread nuggets are absolutely the best and worth the trip just for those alone! However, with a more recent experience using door dash, I can say I'm beyond disappointed. Our ER doc ordered food for day shift and night shift, and they not only cancelled one of the meals, but we were never notified that the item was cancelled due to being out of stock. So our doctor, unfortunately, did not get the food he ordered. Then to top it off, they messed up the rest of our order. We ordered one 10 inch pizza and two 16 inch pizzas. We got two 10 inch and one 16 inch pizzas. They offered to make us a 14 inch at no charge to make up the difference. However, we used door dash to deliver the food, and the staff said they could not bring us the 14 inch pizza. They also refused to refund any money. So not only were things not right, there is no refund, and we would have to somehow leave a busy ER to pick up a 14 inch pizza. The person on the phone was extremely unpleasant, and argued with my coworker saying that we had not ordered what we ordered. She finally decided to actually take a look at the order, and then verified that we in fact did actually order what was originally stated. Our bill was $137.92. To spend that much for the experience we had is just not acceptableTo sum things up, we will not be ordering any meals from there again. read more

Waited over an hour for our food to be delivered. Waitress was attentive and got us drinks but every table around came in 10 to 20 minutes after we ordered our food and every table got their food while we're still waiting. Asked waitress if we could speak to manager but manager never showed her face. Food finally came and food was fine but no reason for our food order to take over an hour. With this place being new, you'd think they'd be trying to kill it right now. I got the perch and they were just so-so. I've definitely had better at the VFW for half the price. I've been to Woodshed Tap 3 times now. 1st we tried a pork belly burnt ends, cheese curds, and the pretzel for appetizers. The guys had steaks and I had chicken shish kebab for main course. It was all delicious. The second time I went back was for carry out pizza order. All the pizzas were good but my favorite pizza was the third time I went back for girls night out. 1st time at The Woodshed tonight ! Great food! Between the 4 of us we had : The Macdaddy Mac n cheese with brisket , the Flat Tire burger , the Italian Beef, the Fricken Chicken sandwhich . I ordered 2 Greek salads to go last weekend. Got to my destination only to find they had not put the dressings in there. Understanding that happens, I drove back to get them and we enjoyed a very delicious salad. After a long work day I decided to get takeout last night . My husband heard the Gyro pizza was to die for. If the restaurant was busy I could have understood but it was not. When we opened the box we couldn't believe our eyes. There was barely ANY THING on that pizza. A few (very few) thin slices of lamb. The taziki sauce was unnoticeable, crust flavorless, no visible feta, perhaps 3 cherry tomatoes, halved. On top of that it was COLD. For $21. we expected better.
