The store is essentially a boutique selling a variety of imported products: lotions, candles, glassware, porcelain, and even some packaged foods (cookies and chocolates, for instance). You'll find few of these products at another store nearby, which makes the selection pretty unique. Most recently I came here for a Mother's Day gift and had plenty to choose from. The employee working in the store that day took time to answer my questions and offer some product recommendations. The prices here are perhaps a little steeper than you might find at a large retailer, but it's that personal touch and eclectic selection of luxury goods that make it worth the price jump. Upon deciding on something to buy, the employee took time to carefully wrap the purchase in a gift bag, even removing the price sticker since I mentioned it was a gift. The store is located in a small cottage, so looking in from the outside it might appear to offer just a few choices, but the store is really packed with options, so there's a lot to choose from. For the small town charm, personalized service and unique offerings, I'm a fan. Going in and finding exactly what I wanted made the shopping spree more than wonderful. The store was clean and the product in the section I was in, needed a lot of attention, however I did manage to find something at an awesome price. After picking out my treasured piece, I looked around the store for a few minutes more and then I headed over to the cashier where the service I received got better and better and better. SERVICE* So in reality, the service was GOOD because I found the container store. That's having a store available in the town I was visiting. The service got BETTER because they had what I needed, at a reasonable price and it's availability. The service was at its BEST when I checked out and paid less at check out and, not only that, I'm excited now.... The cashier left me dumbfounded when she put a Bed, Bath, & Beyond (BB&B) coupon in my bag. I was literally like, what's this. What's happening, what's going on. And then she told me that The Container Store will be stocking BB&B products in the store really soon. TOUCHDOWN!! IYKYK if you didn't, NYK! My recliner was delivered with an unusual odor that I initially thought was a "new furniture" smell. The odor grew stronger throughout the day, and I later noticed it had a chemical quality. By the following morning, the odor was causing a headache, and I was not comfortable using the chair. The odor also transferred to a pillow placed on the chair. I reported the issue within 24 hours of delivery. I was disappointed that, for a premium custom furniture purchase, the initial solution was to "air it out" and that it could not be returned because it was custom. Although the chair was ultimately returned, Ethan Allen retained more than 1/3 of the total purchase price. I agreed to return the chair, but I did not agree that the partial refund was a final resolution. I asked to speak to someone else about the remaining amount and was told by the store manager that no one else could offer a different resolution. I then called customer service and was told a district manager would call me within 48 hours, but I never received a call. When I did not receive a call, I followed up again 48 hours later but still did not receive a callback. After many years of positive experiences with Ethan Allen, I am very disappointed with how this situation was handled. Given this experience, I will not be shopping with Ethan Allen in the future.
